This way a large population of wildlife get eliminated in forest fire.” He recalled instance of 2012 where after fire at Ulta Pani forest of Assam, the number of butterfly species came down from 200 to 30. “It is not only the population of the species, but food for wildlife too which reduces significantly post fire. After fruit trees, insects or other creatures on which birds and other wildlife feed perishes in fire, then it leads to scarcity of food for the hapless inhabitants of forest," said Sondhi. Raman Kumar, president of Nature’s Science Initiative, said that there had never been survey of loss of wildlife post forest fire in the state. “It is over a period of four to five years comparative data with regard to loss of wildlife can be collected in the same forest which is swept by forest fire year after year,” he said. In Uttarakhand, forest fire has been setting in almost same forest areas in Pauri, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Tehri, Uttarkashi and Chamoli.
