parent handing me their infant who has been obviously ill for the past 3 days they've been dropped off to me and is currently coughing at me while using a drool-and-booger-slathered hand to poke my face: "oh no, are you not feeling well?"

“everyoneeee is sick right now” (loud coughing) “i have a cold but i’m still going to class because i can’t miss it” (loud coughing) “5 people were missing in my english class today, isn’t that crazy?” (loud coughing) “can i ask a personal question? why do you wear a mask?”

#i'm getting so close to telling these parents that the 'little colds' their kids keep giving me have sent me to the er twice in 8 months #what do you think happens when your kid gets both of the teachers in our classroom sick? bc i know for a fact there are zero substitutes #we constantly work when we should be at home recovering because there's no other choice #but any time a parent sees me wearing a mask to keep my germs to myself they go “oh no i'm so sorry you're sick!”#i KNOW it's a much larger issue about work (and society) not taking parenting seriously and refusing parents time to tend to their sick kids #but you certainly don't need to feign surprise when i've caught the plague jimmy has been dribbling around the room for the past 3 days #can you tell i have strong feelings about this? no? are you sure?#wear a mask #wash your hands #and for the love of god keep your sick kids home #stochastic thoughts
