Window Story? Now I'm intrigued. /gen XD

the window story. oh, dear, the window story. context: this was about this post Let me set the scene. 7th grade French class. Great teacher, who i'll be calling Mr. S. The room we were in had these really cool giant windows, as did all of the rooms on that wing of the building. They were floor to ceiling, but the bottom panel opened. This was on the second floor. This was first year french (in my school district, French IA as they split it into 2, one half 7th and one half 8th grade.) One of our first vocab lists included the word fenêtre, or window. We, the people we were, did not yet know the words for open or close or can we, so we were all just like (all the time) "mr s!!! can we open la fenêtre???" and he'd be like. sure. he tried to tell us out to say it but that didn't stick. "open la fenêtre" was iconic and we loved it the fenêtre, the window, became an icon in that class. you need a group name? WE WANNA BE THE FENÊTRES! now the actual part of this story (which is very anti-climactic considering the amount of build up) comes next. I don't know how we got on the subject (i think it was a fire drill) but we were talking about how it might be possible to survive a fall out of la fenêtre. queue: someone looking up on wiki-how how to jump out a window. this became a class discussion. it got heated. it was very funny. we were making plans. there were many things that happened in that class examples: - that time me and a friend of mine worked with our OTHER french teacher (8th grade) to learn how to say "the baby drowned in the sea without it's parents" because of an example picture with the titular baby (ms. F, the teacher, was fine with it and just found it funny. i still have the note i wrote about it on a shelf in my room.) - that time i read tarot for mr. s - all the times we gathered around a chromebook and pulled up slapboxing - that time ms. f had a child so we had a sub who had a very heavy accent and never learned my name correctly, so i was a slightly different name for like half the year (not name dropping myself here but you get the picture) - the absolute CHAOS vocab games would cause - that time i did John Phillip Sousa as a celebrity for a "describe this person" type project because i didn't listen to anybody at the time people would know and didn't really know actors from movies or anything and, yknow, other chaotic things

this is my Bill Miles rant.

this is it. this is what you're about to read, yipee hurray! i'm about to rawdog this pustule of a man on a table, and i'm dissecting why he's such a tentative yet counterproductive evolutionary reaction to a shitty situation that ends up causing more problems than it fixes. yknow, like a pustule.

this is gonna be long and rough (honestly the innuendos just write themselves don't they), about 3.7k words long to be precise. this thing needed headings ffs. so take your time with it is what i’m saying xvx

also if you haven't already, I'd recommend checking out my previous Daniel and Lucy posts for further context as i'll bring back stuff from them in here. call it a series what the heck.

now, onto the Billiam

I could do a whole thing here where i explain and contextualize where he's coming from, and how the way he's worked for the brotherhood and later raised his son ultimately made sense from his point of view, etc etc. but i think we're all familiar with that exercise. 'Understandable' doesn't make it right or even smart, and anyone with some understanding of generational trauma and dealing with an emotionally stunted parent already knows the drill here. I'm not gonna break any new ground delving into it so i won't bother. We got bigger fish to fry here.

I will establish though, Bill is a man of action, few words and even fewer expression of emotions. I can draw a direct parallel to the Levantine brotherhood and their strict hierarchy and the ultimate authority of their grandmaster. Not mentor mind you, that's a title for later in the brotherhood's history. Al Mualim is the master, the leader, the head of the order, and his word is law and the tenets and maxim are sacred. If he tells you you should die for his will, then you will do it and gladly, because you're serving the brotherhood's higher purpose. I'm not here to argue the morals and ethics of that, just saying it like it is.

Bill may not be as strict as all that, in fact he's very much not and he couldn't if he tried (and i gotta say, i don't think he would try), but he certainly reflects that resolute certainty in the brotherhood's beliefs and what is needed to face their enemy. The templars are everywhere, they have their grasp in everything, and so you must be willing to give everything to push them back.

In his eyes, all the hardships that he put Desmond through in his youth were necessities. For the brotherhood, they are at war, and as such he saw it as an act of love and care to prepare Desmond for the worst. But he was so lost in a world of casualties and soldiers that he forgets all too often that people are, people.

Soldiers are human beings first and foremost, and to strip them of humanity may be argued as a necessity of war but it strips the brotherhood of its most fundamental goals. Human lives, human worth, humanity itself, are worth preserving and protecting in all its forms, that's the freedom they fight for. It's messy and complicated but it's beautiful and it's to be celebrated, not suppressed. To deny humanity for the sake of neat and clean order and hierarchy is what the templars want, and you can't fight that by becoming it. You fight it by opposing it. That's why Al Mualim turned, and that's why Altair had to kill him and rework the brotherhood from the ground up, even if he hadn't been twisted by the Apple. And that's why I wanna draw out the parallel between Al Mualim to Bill first.

BILL HAD A FARM EEAH EEAH YOH

In AC1 we're served a narrative that the templars and the brotherhood are not so different and they both want the same thing, "peace, in all things", but they have opposing views on how to achieve it and that's where their conflcit lies. Simple enough premise, and they do a pretty good job of showing how those two militaristic orders view the world and how to achieve their goals, and in what form those orders now exist in the modern world. Back then it made sense for the Farm to be an isolationist cult, it was a perfect mirror for the isolated Masyaf fortress and their secretive nature, but as the narrative developed in the next games, that contextualization just grew more and more flawed. The brotherhood had grown, branched out, coexisted in various time periods and cultural contexts, and it no longer made sense for them to be a remote cultish commune in the middle of nowhere.

Which leads me to believe that it was pretty much Bill's idea from the start. If you'll allow me to extrapolate some character beats, it's no secret that he's got a deep respect for the brotherhood, and I'd assume that includes Altair and Ezio given how their mentorship stirred the entire brotherhood into new eras. They are legendary figures in their history, they got statues of them in the brotherhood headquarters, it's really not subtle.

As such, one can see him trying his best to lean on their teachings, if not try to emulate them a bit. He's secretive, resolute, stubborn, all qualities we see of Altair and Ezio in the Animus and were likely exagerated over the centuries. In The Fall (comic), we see that the brotherhood had a whole secret library worth of knowledge before it was ransacked during the Great Purge, and it's not too far to assume that Bill spent some time digging through those archives in his youth. He was born in the brotherhood after all.

Grueling training, blind trust in your betters and the creed, secretiveness, emotional distance. All things we see in both the Farm and the Levantine brotherhood, a holdover from the smaller scope of AC1 that leads me to think this was a bit of Bill's bout of hero worshipping to maybe recreate the conditions that created the assassins of old. We don't know what the rest of the brotherhood thought of the Farm exactly, i can't find or recall any particular bit of lore that addresses it except from an outside perspective; all we get is Desmond's own comments on his experience based on his memories in ACR. Even when he speaks of it to others, they give no opinion of their own on the matter.

Bill might be so focused on the environment that created an assassin like Altair, that he forgets that the man then went over to rework the brotherhood to keep what happened to him from happening again. He fostered curiosity and understanding in his order, leading to many changes that carried on through the ages to the modern day. It was Altair learning to question and doubt his master, the man he'd follow blindly and without question once, that led to the survival and growth of the order. In fact, Altair puts his trust blindly in his assassins to protect him when he goes to confront Abbas, to keep him safe and help restore the order once again. Not the other way around. And when he saw that same curiosity and doubts in his son, he sought to stamp it out instead of seeing it for what it was.

Desmond left not just because he was terrified (his words not mine) of the training, the harshness, and the bland food. If we're being honest, he's found that in spades in the outside world too. No, he left because the Farm asked for blind trust and respect that was not shown to him in return. When he asked questions, they ignored or waved him away, and so as they dismissed his interest in truly understanding what was being taught, he gave them the same.

I'll give credit where it's due, he does apologize and offers a truce to Desmond. Grated, he doesn't get much of a chance to show how much he's changed exactly, especially in the minutiae of daily life with the team, and it's a rather wishy-washy apology overall. But it's something and more than most people get in real life. Desmond is gracious enough to take it and even does his best to give him a chance, which is more than most anyone would, and that says more about him than Bill.

Regardless, I want to chalk up this apology as rushed writing rather than Bill being actively manipulative by saying what Desmond would like to hear. I don't want to give the writers credit for writing some 4D chess mind game powers onto him. I'm not even a fan of the "two Bills on Lucy's emails" thing, that's just poor retcon to fit the "Lucy is a templar" plotline.

the tangent - YOU GOT MAIL

Speaking of, i wanna get into that for a moment. As far as i could dig up, we had no confirmation of why Lucy had to die besides fan theories, and then the ACR dlc dropped. It was further commented on AC3 and most importantly, several retcons that included Lucy being a sneaky templar were released in the Initiates web project. That included much of the Project Siren lore, reactions to her death among the templars, her leaving the memory core for Vidic's goons to find, and of course the retcon that she was in contact with two separate Williams. All this to say, we can't say for sure if the writers knew how they wanted to handle her cliffhanger death in ACB even when ACB itself came out. So this?

That was meant to be our introduction to Bill's character. Those are the words of a man who sent a 16yo girl into the world to fully fend for herself on her own against a corporation so powerful it's almost impossible to comprehend. And now that she's back among the community that dropped her into such a grueling situation, this is his reaction to her showing care and concern for another human being, who by the way is his own son?? Holding up all that she's suffered through over her head like compassion would invalidate all that?? I sincerely lack the words.

Well, actually Desmond said it best.

Right then, Bill really isn't better than them. He's just another cold calculating asshole who's so set on a nebulous future victory that he refuses to see the lives he's trampling on to get there. He's done it to Lucy, to Clay, to Desmond, and even to Shaun and Rebecca to an extent, and they are just the ones we know of. The Great Purge is no excuse for this behavior, that's not the time to grow apart, but closer and show sympathy and kindness to his fellow assassins. Some distant war general figure moving faceless pieces on the board is the last thing they want right then, or might even need.

We can see in this one email just how dire the situation is with how Rebecca even refuses to put a subject on the email. Opening up and being vulnerable is something to be done in quiet and secret, almost like it's a burden to show how much things are affecting you, and that's so messed up. Even in the army, you can see gallows humor and dark jokes to cope with the horrors soldiers go through, but we don't even get that amongst the team. When you approach Lucy as Desmond, it's often him showing her kindness and comfort and reassuring her through her doubts and fears, and she doesn't hesitate to share them with him and I think it has a lot to do with how they are both apart from Bill's influence. Lucy has her own cans of worms to deal with, but between her and Desmond, there's a measure of closeness and trust you don't see with the others.

I know, your boss is not exactly the person you might want to pour your heart out to, but come on! How powerful and rallying would it be to see your leader across the room and feel comfortable and safe enough to just sit together and talk?? It can't be overstated how much it matters that any movement that places itself against the current system must prove itself as... different from that system. It's the literal bare minimum here. If you say you care about humanity but you won't care for the humanity of your members, then... what are you even doing?

tangent done - BACK TO THE BIG PICTURE

I wanna take a quick step back for a bit. AC3 portrays Bill as a man who sees his actions as justified, who sees that his ends justify the means. It leads us down a doomed horseshoe theory that coupled with the deeply complicated historical time in the ancestral plotline, makes for a very murky and confusing narrative. The more you look at it, the less clear or discernible the themes get. It raises a lot of complex points but never closes or even shows where they are going with them.

Now, horseshoe theory is an erroneous concept that has been critiqued to hell and back, and to use it as a way to tie the modern and ancestral timelines in an attempt to create a "'we're all the same" theme is... the worst possible way to go about it. Doubly so when it’s often appropriated by right-wing pundits to vilify their political opponents. You can't make the protagonists ponder on how to hold hands and sing kumbaya with a death cult to avoid Armageddon while the writers are going "bUt ThEy ArE bAd ToO" because of one guy (who you're also attempting to redeem) who deems the inherent human need for connection as "being too weak". Even that is enough of a mess, but add to it the whole deconstruction of the war of independence and the sheer horror that the colonies were for the indigenous people back then and all the way up to this day... Where are the writers even going here??

We get more conversations about how allying with the templars is not a possibility than any proper address on Lucy or the entire situation that led to her turning, much less who's to blame, how can they avoid this in the future, how the protagonists even feel about all this. Just excuses for why it had to happen, there was no other way, let’s move along now, nothing to see here. In AC2 and ACB we got some neat and tidy convos that made sense to be bite-sized, concise little bits of characterization and presenting themes and concepts for the worldbuilding. But in AC3, we get convos that could have been entire cutscenes, whole dialogues amongst the characters to reckon with all that's been happening. Instead we waste cutscene time with fucking Juno and the Isu failed attempts that don't fucking matter to the story they should be focused on telling.

Which is why I want to talk about Haytham.

THE HUMAN PROBLEM

I bring him up because AC3 clearly wants to parallel his and Connor's relationship with Bill's and Desmond's. Which, personally i think it gives off the feeling that it's supposed to be a "hey it could be worse" at Desmond. I think we can agree that's a sucky attitude to have towards anyone who's suffered family trauma like Desmond did, and it also kind of diminishes the weight of the colonial era storyline. But since the game wants to talk about it, then let's talk about it.

Haytham is one more indoctrinated assassin-to-templar character, which is it's own mirror to Daniel and Lucy, but this is not about them. Haytham is cold, pragmatic, relentless and so calculating. He was warmer and kinder when he was younger, even a rather gray character, but all that is lost the longer he spends as the templar grandmaster. He did care for Connor in his own way and wanted to bring him to their side if only so that he wouldn't have to kill him, but if it came to it, he would have as we see in the game multiple times.

And as far as the game is concerned, that's also Bill. They are both two men who got worn down into their respective roles and lost sight of what's truly important. Except, we don't know that. We see it with Haytham plain as day in the prologue, but we don't know how Bill was in his younger years. We know about a few missions he took that involved the Animus project, but besides that we don't know what kind of man or even child he was. We don't even know what his dynamic with other people is, how he is with his wife, does he have family? Siblings, parents, cousins, anything? Does he even care? What about friends and colleagues? Hell, we don't even know what he's like in action, the Cairo mission happens off-screen and Desmond handles their escape with the Apple. All we see of him in AC3 is how he's an emotionally stunted bossy guy, and anything else is told, never shown.

Haytham however, gets a prologue and several missions in-game, and even a whole side novel from his point of view.

As such, I'm reluctant to extrapolate the kind of man Bill is based off of Haytham alone, because again they not only exist in very different times and contexts, but there's a severe imbalance in screentime. What I can do however, is compare their "ending" as it were.

Haytham dies by the hands of his own son. He had the chance to put his ego aside and listen to his son, maybe put his cards on the table and explain the misunderstanding about the attack on Connor's village, but he didn't. He decided to hold that information until it was the most convenient to him, and then try to use it to manipulate Connor into switching sides. He refused to put aside the grandmaster role and step up as a father, or even as a man who cared about someone else's feelings. Whatever his feelings for Ziio and his son, they came second to the templars and their goals, and that was his death sentence. To his dying breath, he held true to that mentality.

Bill however, despite apologizing, hasn't shown much of the work to change. He and the brotherhood remains stagnant and withering, and in the face of the person he's hurt the most and is still alive to make amends to, he remains distant and reticent. All the efforts to connect and deepen whatever there is between them needs to come from Desmond, and every attempt to reach out to the outside gets shut down. It's Desmond refusing to give up on him that saves his ass even! Given the state of their relationship, that fucking SUCKS.

It shouldn't be up to Desmond to fix what Bill wrecked back at the Farm, and portraying otherwise, like Desmond is the one who messed everything up, is ass backwards. The brotherhood and Bill should be bending into knots to convince him to stay and that things aren't as they were once, but Desmond decided to stay long before. Because one the templars suck, two Desmond got the proof he always had asked for as a child and three, Lucy showed him kindness and understanding. One might even go so far as to say that it was living Altair's own rebirth period is what reassured those questions he had and gave him true understanding, but Lucy gave him hope in a hopeless situation.

That's powerful not just as a narrative point but as a theme for the assassins as a whole. The games continue to portray the brotherhood as a beacon of hope against the oppression and tyranny of the templars (even for the modern days through the glyph puzzles in AC2 and ACB) but Bill, the face of the brotherhood as the de-facto mentor, is himself as a tyrant.

One would expect AC3 to show him either follow Haytham's fate or change himself to avoid it, but we're denied that kind of development. Even in the Initiates web project and subsequent games, Bill's change is kind of handwaved. He lost the will to fight and vanished but then he saw the desecration of his son he barely showed to give much of a shit for, and now he's back and Mentor again? He's awkward and trying to be approachable in Origins but he's still rather overconfident and posturing too much for his own good.

(I mean, sitting within range of Layla's blade before she's even out of the Animus? Bold fucker.)

If they truly wanted to grapple with Bill and his place and role in the story they spun us, which I assume they do since he's the one who does the intro to the AC3 game, then they should have DONE THAT. Make him face the consequences of his choices and actions, and make the team hold him responsible for it. Make him soften and change, not just give us a pitiable hug and a meek little "Son..." just before Desmond sacrifices himself. Seriously, what gives?

One of the biggest failures in AC3 is their horrid sense of narrative prioritizing with the modern timeline. They tried to close too many threads at once with not nearly enough screentime, and wasted time on needless fluff. But most importantly, I think that the games after ACB have a human problem, in that they refuse to acknowledge the humanity in the modern timeline.

Bill could have been an incredible display of change, that the templars aren't the superior mentality that can turn anyone who spends long enough around them like some brain-corroding virus. Show that the brotherhood still has a chance and that no one is above humbling themselves or beyond bettering themselves, and most of all that the brotherhood can indeed bring hope in a hopeless situation, and community and understanding can make a difference. And since they are so touchy about murder all of a sudden, also show that the assassins are capable of doing more than just killing people.

But we don’t. We don’t get any of that. We’re once again denied of any development that would make any kind of statement that would shift the status quo and make them pay attention to the modern timeline and what they’re doing with it. And worst of all, we're denied any development that would bring us closer emotionally to these characters and make us ponder our place in the world and in history. Cus god forbid the series that has “history as its playground” learn anything from it.

logical reasons:

first and foremost, he’s the only uniframe we’re gonna get for at least the next 10 months. although the uniframes are always going to be there at their standard ()% rate banners, it’s always better to get them when they are at 100%(if you’re going to get him)

what’s more, you can easily SS uniframes by obtaining shards from guild shop(which makes building noan and all the other uniframes much easier)

plus, hes one of the rare uniframes that have another uniframe with the same element. so noan and selena + another omniframe for the team. (which gives 30% uniframe debuff which can be offset if you build them well, and its far better than the horrendous 60% if you only use 1 uniframe)

so many thoughts about not just gerard but larger MCR and how they treat their place as celebrities/icons/a central 21st century American rock band. Like. I feel the need to add here that MCR has always been a band kind of bent on their own importance ( this sounds like criticism !! It kind of is but also isn't I love mcr with all my heart and soul they are my favorite band ever but they are also very very interesting and my love of them can extend to analysis and even critique ! ) like life on the murder scene? A classic MCR foundation, a fandom CORE? As a documentary is not a neutral one AT ALL. Mcr over and over and over says in that documentary from the scenes and focuses on Gerard's addiction to his positive treatment of women to his 'we're trying to save people' monologues that documentary is very clearly illustrating a thesis that MCR as an entity is something deeply important and is capable of saving and changing lives. The I'm ( not ) okay music video? Same thing it is directly telling the audience "MCR IS HERE FOR YOU AND LOVES YOU AND KNOWS YOUR PERIL" and that is so easy to see as slimy in todays world of intense conversations regarding the parasocial and how celebrities should present themselves but in 2008 that was a genuinely impactful and meaningful statement to many people, but that doesn't mean it was one without intent behind it. Like. MCR since day 1 ( or more accurately year 1-2 ) has seen themselves and wants others to see themselves as paragons of importance and support which leads to the paradoxical message that they are down to earth silly dudes hanging out and crying at night just like you and are ALSO like, messengers of God. Also important to note that Gerard way literally and not as hyperbole sees aspects of MCR and their art as coming from visions of God. Like not as a joke Gerard does feel touched by the divine which definitely impacts this all. This whole idea is kind of skewed post-revival though, to me. Like a major theme of Foundations of Decay is that Gerard and MCR are stepping back as idol figures and now entrust the healing process back to the listeners. It is no longer 'I' statements ( I'm not okay, I'll save you, we are here for you ) it's YOU ( You must fix your heart, Get up coward ) like it demands the audience to heal themselves in a way that MCR used to present as their job and! Woah I got off topic, I don't really know how this fits into G's social media usage ( or lack therof ) post revival but uh. Yeah there is definitely definitely something there to MCR's dual identity they intentionally craft of them being both figures to both idol and to feel connected and grounded to as fellow humans 'just like you' . I think a lot of it is caused by the fact that the lead singer literally sees Joan of Arc style divine visions but yknow that's part of what I love about them

Gerard Way’s relationship with social media is genuinely really interesting from a societal standpoint. He removed himself from social media because it was bad for his mental health and seemingly wanted to eliminate the parasocial relationship aspect that developed between fans. Makes sense and is completely respectable on paper. But everything he’s done on a broad marketing standpoint facilitates fans to think everything he and the band does is incredibly important and earth shattering. The band broke up and they released a hits album where the motif was all of them dying. The band got back together and there was an entire short film dedicated to it. Now, instead of viewing the self-imposed distance with respect, fans view pictures of Gerard and friends as a reward and are desperate for any means to obtain it. I wonder if it would be better if he was just a little bit more available. So people didn’t view him as almost a deity lol

Some may argue that eating at the hospital cafeteria after their shifts end is a date. Some may argue that it is not. Reverie and Chase are the type to have this argument, because they have spent many times at the end of their shift at the hospital cafeteria, and each time, it's a conflict as to what exactly this ritual should be called.

“It's a date,” Reverie says, gesturing to the table where only they are seated. “It's the two of us alone, sitting at a table eating, hanging out and talking. We're dating. So it's a date.”

Chase scoffs. “Just because we are dating doesn't mean this is a date, Rev. If you think this is a date, I need to take you out more. I'll take you surfing this weekend.”

Reverie crosses her arms and rolls her eyes. “Just because we're dating doesn't make that a date,” she mocks him. “It's surfing together. If that's a date, so is this.”

“I'll get someone to agree with me,” Chase says, taking a sip of his soda. “Alright. If this is a date, we're going to make date small talk. How was your day, luv?”

She smirks. “It was very productive. I assisted with a particularly touch-and-go lung transplant. And you?”

“Really? Surgery is date talk to you?” Chase laughs, smiling that pretty smile of his. It makes Reverie blush.

“Yes. Now tell me about your day,” she asks, pointing at him.

Chase sighs. “Okay, we're still playing this game. Well, House got a patient that has a mysterious rash. Sent me and Park to his house, found some perfume. First, we thought the rash was from the perfume, and shocker, it wasn't. We're running some tests overnight. Tomorrow we'll know more. Now, Rev, was that really a good date conversation?”

She playfully bites her straw. “Yes, it was. Now, can I say that you look very sexy tonight? On this date?”

He scoffs and looks down at his clothes– he had no time to change back into his street clothes, so he still has on his scrubs and the grey undershirt pushed up to his elbows.

“It's so cute to me that you think this, of all things, is sexy,” Chase laughs, gesturing to himself.

Reverie continues to bite her straw and twirl her hair around her finger. “Well, you look good in scrubs. What can I say? Scrubs, wetsuits, your leather jacket, your white coat…all sexy.”

Chase smiles and actually blushes at this. “Please. You wear scrubs better than me. And wetsuits. And the times you've stolen my jackets, you looked pretty hot.”

“Not as hot as you,” she says with a click of her tongue. “Is this proper date talk?”

He shrugs. “Better than before. But you'll have to do a little more than that to convince me this is a date.”

Reverie narrows her eyes. “Fine then.”

In a stroke of possible luck, she spots Wilson walking through the cafeteria. She smirks as she gets an idea, then whistles at him.

“Oi! Wilson! C'mere!” She calls.

Wilson walks over, his thick eyebrows knit in confusion. “What's wrong?”

“Why do you assume something is wrong, waiter?” Reverie asks playfully. “My date and I will have two ice cream sandwiches, please.”

Catching on to what game Reverie is playing, Wilson laughs. “And you'll pay me back for that?”

“Yes, just go along with it!” Reverie Hisses.

“Okay,” Wilson says, heading to the counter. He returns a while later and hands them their dessert. “Two ice cream sandwiches for the lovely couple.”

Chase sighs and rolls his eyes. “Wilson, you don't seriously believe this counts as a date, do you?”

Both he and Reverie's eyes widen when Chase catches Reverie giving him the change for the desserts. But both return to the little game, and Wilson sighs.

“I'm not here to get in the middle of your date,” he says, “just to provide your dessert as a waiter. Is there anything else I can get for you?”

Chase groans and Reverie waves him off. “No, that will be all. Thank you.”

Wilson shrugs and leaves the table, and Chase unwraps his ice cream sandwich.

“Might as well eat this, not let our “dessert” go to waste,” Chase says as he takes a bite. “These are actually really good, for hospital cafeteria food.”

Reverie nods as she bites into her own. “Yep. ‘Cause they're meant for dates.”

He rolls his eyes. “Seriously, you're still on that?”

She sighs and pouts. “What can I do to convince you this is a date, luv?”

“That's for you to figure out,” he responds, biting into his dessert.

Reverie shrugs. “Okay. Call it a date, and I'll make it worth your while.”

Chase raises an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

He feels something under the table and looks over at Reverie, smiling innocently as she reaches under. Chase's face lights up pink and he swallows nervously.

“Okay, okay, it's a date, it's a date, this has been a date!”

Reverie nods. “That's what I thought you'd say. Wanna finish this “date” at home?”

Chase nods furiously. “Yes, oh my God, yes. Go get in the car.”

“Yes sir,” she replies playfully, standing up and heading for the door.

Still seeing lots of posts about Ghost King Danny and "ghostspeak" as if they're a given, and damn near everyone is still calling Phantom "Dan" even though that was only ever from the janky GBA game and he explicitly renounced the name in AGiT...

Idk I'm all for having fun AUs like one where ghosts have a scary eldritch language, but folks have GOT to realize that those AUs are a totally separate thing from the actual series. Please enjoy the series on its own merits before you start enforcing these (I cannot emphasize enough) VERY SPECIFIC headcanons on the setting and characters

.............yknow what while I'm here I'm also gonna use this space to rant about the term "halfa" and how it's still used so frequently in the fandom as some kind of serious term for half-ghosts. It was never meant to be used as, like, a scientific classification of the species. I'm going to start a rewatch of the show this weekend and I'll apologize if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the word is ONLY ever used in the episode with Poindexter, who is a weird little nerd with a propensity for using absurd old-timey slang. We weren't supposed to take it as actual widely-used terminology, it's just another of his funny slang words.

(In fact, I'm pretty certain the word originally referred to Danny SPECIFICALLY. He was "THE halfa". "Half a boy, half a ghost!" Remember? Ugh it's so dumb)

I say this as someone who was in the target demo when the show aired and definitely used "halfa" all the time in fandom discussions back in the day. But we're all adults now--can we acknowledge that it sounds dumb and just call them "half-ghosts" or "hybrids" for goodness sake?

➵ Beau Romano - his deadname being Bianca - was born a year after his older sister, Faye. He lived with his semi-wealthy parents, Camilia and Dylan Romano in Manitoba.

When he was in second grade, Beau began to have a big sprout of creativity. He had drawn pictures of people and anthropomorphic animals, and create small little tales about these people/animals he has drawn. He Drew more and more of these as time slowly passed, and he enjoyed telling stories about these drawings. This had grown into a hobby, and something he enjoyed thoroughly.

His older sister came out when she was nine that she felt like a girl and that she was attracted to girls. Now, their parents are very accepting people and proceeded to assist and support Faye - who was formerly known as Lovino - get what she needed to transition.

Beau happily cheered on his big sister on, supporting her and showering her with love. He celebrated her transitions and her relationships happily, happy that he had such a prideful older sister.

By the time Beau was ten, he had begun to experiment with his sexuality by feeling some weird way towards a guy in music class. He talked with this guy more and more, and these feelings continued to grow.

After a couple of weeks, he felt the same way towards a girl in music class too. The feeling for the boy stayed, but now he had feelings for a boy and a girl.

One day, while walking to school with his mom, he heard two girls behind him talking about the people they liked. One of the girls had said that she was Bisexual, to which little Beau tugged on his mother's sleeve and asked what "Bisexual" meant. The woman explained that it was when someone liked two or more genders.

Beau put that into thought, and not even a minute later, he exclaimed "I'm Bisexual!"

His mom smiles and ruffled her son's - then daughter's - head. While Beau was still a kid, and she thought that Beau didn't know what he was talking about, the boy knew exactly what he was talking about.

Those feelings of the boy and girl faded over time. When Beau was twelve, he had fallen for another person. There had been this really cute girl in class who enjoyed drawing, and boy, what a talented artist she is.

Slowly, but surely, Beau began to fall in love with this girl, and spent time with her. Months went by, and the two had fallen in love.

The girl had confessed to Beau, which he accepted.

These two were a great, healthy Lesbian couple at the time. They were both very happy and loving. Beau had welcomed his girlfriend into the family, to which they welcomed with open arms.

The relationship lasted for two years until they fell out of love. The spark was gone. Their breakup wasn't nasty - they awkwardly stated that they lost that romantic spark on both sides. Beau had turned thirteen at the time. Beau and his ex-lover are on good terms to this day.

Once puberty hit, Beau looked at the body he had at the moment. He didn't quite fit with how it was. It made him feel like he didn't fit in a girl's body. He wanted to cut off his developing melons. So, he decided to talk to Faye later that evening, whom had fully transitioned. She was a beautiful woman. As he talked to her about what had been up, Faye stated that Beau could be Transgender, and even gave him a few articles on Gender Dysphoria.

Weeks of looking into gender identities later, Beau took the label "Trans Male" and used it to describe himself. With encouragement from Faye, he came out to his parents, who accepted him. He didn't want to transition as quickly as Faye, and wanted to take it slow. Testosterone and binding first.

As he grew older, Beau got bullied for being a Transgender Bisexual man. He was experiencing Transphobia from a few of his fellow peers. He knew that not everyone would accept him for being who he was, but this hurt quite a bit. Being bullied for this wasn't fair - he had every right to express himself! - but nooo, people were idiots.

His love for writing had grown more and more over the years. He began to write little stories that he presented in school and posted online. People loved his little stories. Whether they were fanfiction or characters and universes he had created in his head, they received a lot of positive feedback. Sure, there were haters, bullies, trolls, and rude people in general, but Beau didn't pay attention to them too much.

Beau had gotten top surgery when he was fifteen. He had been on testosterone for a year, and he had been binding for that time being. He loved his new, flat chest. Sure, he would have a scar on his chest from the surgery, but it didn't really bother him. He was happy that his tibbies were deleted. Now he could feel like a guy somewhat.

During the time passed from fourteen and fifteen years old, Beau had been watching a show known as "Total Drama" with Faye. The show was appealing to the young teen. The risky challenges were entertaining, most of the cast was likable, and it was really entertaining for the young boy. He'd talk about joining the show every now and then and would think about what his label or cliche would be on the show.

Timeskip to now, Beau and Faye are sixteen and seventeen respectively. After watching an ad to audition for the next season of Total Drama, Faye looked over at her little brother.

"Hey... You should audition to be on there!"

Beau, liking the idea, auditioned for the show. Once his audition was seen, Beau was invited to be on a season of Total Drama.

•Beau has some family members that live in Italy. He has gone to Italy to visit them numerous times.

New Years to Us

Dear Awiel, This is our second time celebrating new years with each other. Well, not technically woth each other. We never celebrated it together before. I remember that night we shared new years together in the same place, Bali. Iwa in my village and you were somewhere around the southern city part of Bali. I lay there on my small mattress on the floor laying down sleepily while chatting to you. We tapked about our new years resolution and what nots. You didn't tell me this until after you did it, but one of tour resolutions was to kiss me. I felt very flattered.  My plan that night was to stay up all night so I can say "Happy New Year!" to you first. Sadly, I was too sleepy so I slept. I want to do it correctly this time, I want to stay up all night to say that to you. A lot has grown between the both of us. We used to be yknow just two people liking each other and now you've  become the most important part of my life. Pretty drastic, huh? We've  been through a lot too. A lot tears, laughs, anger, and so much. I kean that's what makes a solid relationship am i rite? Now your goal is to be the best for me and to be with me. Honestly, I don't  need you to be better. But, I would also love it if you added a few upgrades of yourself here and there. The point is you don't  need to try so hard to be so, just go with the flow. I love you already awiel and it will ever stop. No matter what. Kind of bold for someone in 10th grade. I hope I can still celebrate and say new years to you next year and the many years to come. Maybe even one day, I'll  be ablento finally celebrate new years together with you. The both of us hand in hand, counting down until midnight. Saying our greetings when the time has come and embrace rach other tightly for the many more years we have togehter. Oh, how much I want that to come true, my love. Someday we'll  have it.
