favorite frev historian?
Anon, I wanted to give you a more complex answer about the historians, but some complications occured so allow me to go straight to the #1.
He is a little less known, but it's a french-born polish historian named Stefan Meller. He is one of the two authors of an excellent monograph about the French Revolution, the most solid book on the field that I have read. It's enormous and nearly as thick as my edition of Les Miserables, and it's a shame it wasn't translated to french or english.
Aside from that he is a Camille Desmoulins biographer, and despite the bio being simply good and decently accurate, it's entertaining as Meller shows a lot of sympathy for the historical figure. At times it sounds like a parent-teacher conference; Miss, Camille did wrong, but he is a good and talented child. Once again, I wish it was translated into a more readable language.
#he was also a minister of foreign affairs and a playboy editor in chief? or sth like that i cant recall exactly#i first knew him as a politician so when i discovered that the meller the politician and meller the historian are one person i went ???#but yes. the books are excellent. leftist-sympathetic but not in the communist propaganda eastern european way#ask#anon
