did fuck all this week tbh, even though i write every day as i always do, partly because i realized along the way it’ll be interesting for me to change up some things in the established long-time-ago plot. so i was mostly trying to figure out what will make the process for me as fun as possible.

“Yeah, actually, Higashi was coming over to help.” Kaito frowned at Yagami’s changed expression, “I won’t throw you out of the office or anything. Higashi won’t be against meeting you too.”

Yagami could almost laugh. “He will.”

Kaito sighed heavily, obviously having no evidence to support his wishful thinking. “Yes, okay, he will be. But we both know it’d do him some good— him and you. It’s a good time for you two to get along if anything.” He crossed arms on his chest and glared at Yagami, daring him to protest. That made the latter feel like a troubled kid again, getting lectured about something stupid.

Yagami chuckled. Kaito would make a fearsome, though mostly simple, dad. Yagami seriously doubted that there was anyone else in the world believing that for him befriending Higashi would be that easy. “Thanks, Kaito-san. I appreciate it, I guess.”

“Nah, don’t sweat it,” he answered, missing (or ignoring) the skeptical undertone. “It sucks being with you two in the same room most of the time. Shootin’ daggers at each other and all that.” Kaito shook his head disapprovingly, going into full, unrestrained dad mode. “You should’ve figured out this tension by now. It’s been years.”

“Well, with some people, it just never meant to be.”
