oh my god ok THANK YOU for asking !!! also in the time since you asked this, i have written another 1,400 words by hand. Anyways. under the cut bc this got. too long.

so this was originally for the 50k big bang project, but it was cancelled so i'm gonna go ahead and talk about it publicly now. SO.

the sparknotes summary: it is an iwaoi post-canon coming of age relationship study !! it's about iwaizumi in california and oikawa in argentina and how they navigate their friendship while long distance. it quite literally walks through every step of their journey from graduation aoba johsai to meeting again at the 2020 olympics....the sheer amount of time i'm covering is why its currently ~88,000 words LMAO.

this fic is literally my little monster. it was supposed to be 30k. then it was supposed to be 50k MAX. it is now 88 thousand words long. anyways though i'm enjoying it.

it's a slow burn get together, but it's also a break up & make up fic. the idea is that they dated in high school and then had to break up bc of the distance--but i think they're probably going to get together in the end. the middle is a whole lot of them growing up and figuring out how they can have a healthy friendship even as adults and dealing with loneliness and adulthood on their own and really coming into themselves as people by the time that they get to the olympics.

i just finished parts two and three, which is iwaizumi's years at university. here are some BANGER lines, if i do say so myself:

after oikawa's visit to california, when he has to leave again:

Oikawa smiles at him, and with that, he takes the handle of his suitcase and walks into the airport. Farther and farther and farther away, until he’s disappeared from sight and Iwaizumi is standing alone again, next to the blinking red hazard lights and the sound of other cars’ wheels on cracked concrete.  He gets back into the car. He doesn’t really want to talk to Rich right now, or any one of his other friends or teammates. He kind of just wants to be alone.  So he turns off the hazard lights and puts the car in drive and then he takes the long way home.

when iwaizumi is talking to his friends about oikawa:

“It’s not a big deal,” he tries. “We’ve both moved on. It wouldn’t have lasted while we’re in different countries anyway.”  He does not mention that Oikawa had asked him to wait. He does not mention that he is—he is waiting, and he doesn’t plan on stopping. He doesn’t plan on breaking that promise to come home.  “Ah,” Em says, subdued.

during a drunken NYE call:

Iwaizumi can hear the flinch in Oikawa’s voice. “You miss me?”  “I’m not saying it again,” Iwaizumi says, and it sounds like it’s supposed to be angry, but it just comes out tired and sad. “Of fucking course I do. You’re—” “I’m what?”  Iwaizumi takes a shuddering breath. “You’re so far away, Tooru. You’re so far away and it makes me—fuck, fuck! I shouldn’t have called. I should—” “No!” Oikawa says it instantly, desperately, cutting off any idea that Iwaizumi should go. Which is good because as much as Iwaizumi wants to escape the embarrassment of this phone call, he doesn’t actually want to hang up. He doesn’t actually want to leave Oikawa now. “Stay. Please. Stay with me.”  Iwaizumi pauses for a moment, swallowing down Oikawa’s words and turning them over in his head before saying anything else. “Okay. I’ll stay.” 

anywayssssssss!!! it's been REALLY fun to write, but it's also like. an insane labor of love. this fic was my project for nanowrimo july of LAST YEAR, and it's my project again this year. isn't that crazy. so so so much has gone into this fic its literally driving me up the wall. it haunts my every waking moment and also my dreams.

but yeah i don't have wifi where i'm living for the summer, so i've been writing everything by hand and then typing it all up when i can use a hotspot on my phone. i also have the most amount of free time in my life than i have , like, EVER had in my non-child life. so i get to spend so much time writing, which has been sooooo fun. i am begging the universe to keep me from being burnt out bc i'm genuinely having the time of my life working on this.

My Eurovision top 19 with comments!

Carpe Diem - I love it so much! Catchy, danceable, and the post-chorus guitar solo is so sick. Wish I could do that with my guitar...

Evidenment - Fun, and I love disco-pop! Vocals are on point. Takes a while to get started though.

Cha Cha Cha - KAARIJA SWEEP. Such a banger. Definitely prefer the second part, though.

Promise - Metal is not at all my thing, but this slaps! Love the electronic part. I feel like it loses steam as it goes on though.

My Sister's Crown - I feel like the controversy has distracted from how much this slaps. I love the chorus and the rap part so much. Lots of girl power here, and I'm happy about it!

Queen of Kings - It's a bop, it's got great vocals, and that WHISTLE NOTE! Catchy as hell.

Aija - I love uncommon time so much... It does take forever to find its feet, but that chorus hits so well. Love the outro. I don't like it as much as Eat Your Salad (I love and miss that song so much), but it's good.

Eaea - it's giving culture, it's giving Spain out of its flop era, it's giving genre crossover... Definitely the most powerful voice in the competition, and even though there's only a few songs revealed, I think that'll remain true.

Due Vite - And THIS is why Italy is my stan country. Admittedly it's a little more generic than their last few entries, but I still like it.

Because Of You - Gayest thing I've ever seen (complimentary). I unironically really like it though. 90s house is so cool.

Heart Of Steel - It's not bad, it's just that the last three entries were so good that it seems bad in comparison. The downtempo-style production is great, the lyrics aren't quite so great, I think it'll all come down to the vocals in the end...

Bridges - Actually an ok ballad? Interesting melodies. I think it'll either surprise NQ or end up on the left side, no idea which lol

Breaking My Heart - So obviously TikTok-bait it's obnoxious, but there is a decent song there. I'm distracted by that fucking haircut lmao

Mama SC - Ah, the novelty song. As a song it's really repetitive at the start, but then it finds its feet, and some parts legitimately slap lol.

Dance (our own party) - Trying to be Epic Sax Guy? It kinda has potential, if they fix that goofy staging, that is. Unfortunately it's really repetitive - sax riffs are only good if you use them sparingly.

We Are One - Yeah, definitely very generic. Sounds like something from a commercial.

Stay - I get why people don't like ballads now lol. Defs a step down from Sentimentai

Duje - Not really my thing, and the message seems kinda awkwardly executed. It seems more anti-divorce than pro-family, which... That's iffy.

D.G.T - Nothing is less sexy than someone obviously trying to be sexy with all of their might. The song is ok, but the staging is just awful. That one clip of Alvan winking at the end of the final performance of Fulenn is ten times more sexy than the whole three minutes of this. And the "Make Love Not War" is just annoying.

3. Worst dream u have ever had? I had sleep paralysis but was imbetween that and a lucid dream. At first I was paralyzed and could see my bed but my eyes felt closed and open at the same time?? A giant dark demon looking dog had towered over me and began to tear at my neck. It looked and felt very real I started to try to scream and it felt like a scream was coming out but no sound exited. Then I went into a lucid dream where I was being chased by this dog and running for my life I was running by and nobody could save me nobody in the dream when it caught up to me I was back in my bed and it was trying to eat me again. I was so terrified I couldn’t sleep for a whole week.

Hongjoong - Right off the bat, it’s Masego’s Tadow, the entire way they did the song just gave me the impression, that once they have the means to have all of that in a studio, Hongjoong will probably do it too. Also, the lyrics.

Yunho - Tone Stith’s Let Me. Him being so willing to lend his credit card to Mingi in that one V-live. The way this fandom just agrees that he’s the type of person who’s love language is to pamper them. BUT ALSO. Yunho’s very relaxed, the relaxed that has him just leaning against the couch type. Second: Coco Bottle - Penomeco 

Yeosang - Eric Bellinger’s Type A Way. When Jongho said that Yeosang’s song recommendation was The Weeknd’s Heartless, it made me look at him at a slightly different light. He’s underestimated I think. So have a song that warns you that if you underestimate someone you’re bound to get whiplash.... which is what Yeosang gives me. His confidence in himself also is growing so it’s only a matter of time until he probably shows something deadlier than what he’s been showing us.  (cough cough @yeochikin thoughts?)

Different types of love. All just wanting the better for the other. San’s been the Day 1 for ATEEZ, wanting the best, wanting to improve for them. Besides the fact it’s called Purple emoji (San: Purple uwu), it’s just something I can associate San with.

It’s not brands either that are as known as Gucci but mention them to someone who knows fashion and there’s a chance that they know it. Rich boy vibes. Curbi, whose real name is Toby Curwen-Bingley has been captivating the streaming world with his melodic new single Spiritual featuring Brooke Tomlinson.

Curbi: Oh yeah, Hello man!

Curbi: Thank you, it’s the first time for me.

Todd Michaels: First time? There’s been a lot of first timers this time. This is about our fourth or fifth- kind of used to it, even though I always still come in and we’ll, look at you, you’re doing the same thing […] at least you have a short sleeve shirt on, I’m putting my sweater on.

Curbi: I usually walk around with a hoodie on to be honest. Last, like last time I came to America wore a Hoodie the whole time

Todd Michaels: Because you’re from?

Curbi: England.

New Single ‘Redeem’ & America.

Todd Michaels: From England. Oh, all right. We’ve got another English (lad) here too, one of our djs.His name is Adam [Turner]. All right, so what are you working on Curbi? What is 2019 looking like?

Curbi: I’ve got a lot of new music coming out. I’ve got one coming out on the 1st of April called Redeem, it’s more of a deeper sound for me. Very groovy, working on a lot of groovy stuff at the moment. I’ve got a lot of tracks which I’ve been working on the past like two or three years and hopefully going to release this year. A lot of shows, hopefully more shows in the U.S., I’m really hoping for that because I do a lot in Europe and a lot in Asia at the moment.

While a majority of European DJs list Japan as their ultimate favorite country to visit and play in, Curbi was one of a few, if not the only DJ we interviewed that ranked America as his favorite place to visit. “Oh, man, I love America. It’s Amazing!” he says. He credits the similarities between the two countries for this “it kind of feels familiar, because I’m from England, it’s like the same, but it’s not.” Todd Michaels and Curbi engage in a lengthy discussion about the best place to move to in The United States (sorry L.A., New York, Miami, and everywhere that isn’t Chicago).

Curbi: Yeah! No, but America’s great man. It feels very like home in a way.

Todd Michaels: Would you move here?

Curbi: Yeah, I hope to in the future.

Todd Michaels: Where would you want to move to [in] America?

Curbi: I would like to say L.A., but I don’t think that’s like a settling (down) place. I don’t know.

Todd Michaels: New York isn’t either.

Curbi: No?

Todd Michaels: I don’t think Miami is either. You might have to go to Chicago!

Curbi: [laughs] Yeah? I’m down man! anywhere.

Todd Michaels: I mean, we’re based there, so I’ll be your tour guide.

Moving to America is definitely a smart move for any aspiring musician, the U.S. is still largely considered to be the epicenter of music media. But life in America has its unique challenges, especially when it comes to fast-food.

Todd Michaels: What are some guilty pleasures that you’ve got in the sense of food when you’re traveling? What’s your go-to?

Curbi: Oh man. Yeah, let’s not even go into this […] this is really bad cause like when I’m home, I try to be as healthy as I can and last year I spent two months going every day to the gym, being really healthy and then I went to America. I went on tour in America for like two weeks and yeah. So, basically just McDonald’s, all the fast-food restaurants when I’m touring. Like, when I’m really hungry and hungover after a show day. I go straight to a fast-food restaurant.

Todd Michaels: What’s here? What food or fast-food that we have here that you don’t have in London that you really enjoy?

Curbi: I’m not sure about Miami, but in L.A., In-N-Out (Burgers) obviously, that was amazing!

Todd Michaels: Here’s a question for you, when I travel I tend to skip the places I can get here at home. However, Mcdonald’s is the one place I don’t mind going (in other countries). It’s a little healthier, you guys have real potatoes over there.

Curbi: Yeah? You think so?

Todd Michaels: That’s what they say. [laughs]

Curbi: I don’t believe that.

Todd Michaels: The look that you just gave me was like ‘Wow! That’s not true.’

Curbi: But what I’ve noticed is that the menu’s different wherever you go. I had McDonald’s in South Korea and the menu was completely different.

Todd Michaels: We actually have an international in Chicago. There’s an international Mcdonald’s because of that, there’s a university actually that they have those kinds of things.

After a lengthy discussion about McDonald’s international menu, the focus then turns to one of America’s favorite Canadian imports: Justin Bieber.

Todd Michaels: What would be a guilty pleasure where (your friends) are hanging out with you and all of a sudden you turn this tune on and you’re just like, ‘Yeah! This is my jam!’ And they’re like What?

Curbi: Oh yeah! I don’t know. I like everything to be honest. Justin Bieber is a legend mate. I’m feeling a little bit guilty.

Todd Michaels: He’s taking some time off.

Curbi: Oh really?

Todd Michaels: Yeah, something mental, he’s taking some time off. But yeah, he’s my guilty (pleasure), he’s usually my go-to. As much as I can diss on the guy, I kind of like his music.

Curbi: He’s bloody good mate!’

Todd Michaels: Especially when he worked with Skrillex and he was doing all that other Jack U stuff.

Curbi: That changed (everything) completely! I didn’t really like his stuff before, I mean ‘baby’ is a Banger but yeah man. His stuff is great now.

Todd Michaels: What about, who would you want to work with? Who would be like a dream collaboration?

Curbi: Skrillex, Post Malone. Actually, I think all of the U.S. (EDM) Guys. I would also like to work with some Dubstep guys and like make a fusion between my sound and Dubstep. So like, I don’t know if you know Space Laces? He worked with Excision, GTA, love those guys. Yeah, but Post Malone, if we’re going outside of EDM and like dance music- I’d be Post Malone.

Todd Michaels: What would that collaboration hopefully be called? What would be a nice little title that you would give it?

Curbi: I would just keep it simple. Something like ‘Swag,’ because Post Malone says ‘swag’ a lot.

Todd Michaels: That would be good- Swag featuring Curbi. That would be nice. What’s a song out there that you think should not exist anymore?

Curbi: [Laughs] Darude ‘Sandstorm’. That should be gone now, it’s overplayed.

Todd Michaels: Why?!

Curbi: I mean it is a Banger! But it’s too much. When it comes on it’s just like ‘Ugh! Again? Really?

Todd Michaels: I mean, I’m not going to agree to disagree. I have history with that song! Like, it brings back memories.

Curbi: I wasn’t even alive, probably when it was released. I can’t even remember when it was released.

Todd Michaels: It was like mid 2000s. Maybe early 2000s.

Curbi: Ok it was then, but I was like three or something.

Todd Michaels: Yeah, you were just a little like (kid) …not doing that.

Eurovision: You Decide UK Review (Before the show)

BIGGER THAN US

Michael Rice's version works a lot better for a song of this style. And it radiates strong "we're sorry for rejecting Cesar Sampson here's a John Lundvik song" vibes. I'm not a massive fan of either of these influences but it makes sense for the UK to send something like this. I'm skeptical about them recreating the massive gospel choir at the end of the song but at least we know Michael can sing.

I don't like Holly Tandy's country version. I think it falls a lot flatter than Michael's version and the lyrics suit the more 'epic' production rather than country. Both the songs lack personality but this one moreso. Underwhelming after Michael.

FREAKS

So both of these versions are objectively awful lmao. The lyrics are cringy, trying to ride a Greatest Showman 'we love our imperfections' wave of self love, even if that involves calling the listener a freak. Putting the word "soccer" in a UK Eurovision song is akin to treason. I get that it's trying to reclaim the word "freaks" but it's of little impact, especially coming from a group of three pretty girls when the song is so vague about what they've been through. A song like this needs authenticity. Which is impossible in this format! And the song plagiarises Canon in D minor. At least Jordan's version is catchy.

SWEETS LIES

Thank God for Kerrie-Anne oh my Jesus we needed this. As I said, this format leads to a lack of authenticity. Kerrie-Anne's song has appeal because it's a straight up banger; it doesn't need authenticity, it's just fun. Yes, it's dated and sounds like a Booty Luv album track but in this lineup I honestly don't care. I'm just happy to have found a song which elicits any response from me. Hell yeah. And it sounds like Kerrie-Anne has a fantastic voice.

I think Anisa's version is alright. I like the 90s R&B influences but ultimately, I think the melody fits a dance track more than a ballad. The jury choice between these two could come down to the live performance.

IN CONCLUSION...

It's between Michael Rice and Kerrie-Anne, with Anisa as a backup if her live is amazing.
