okay so I saw that one ask and now I’m curious. I dunno which blog to send this but here goes;
what’s your general inspiration for the Geiers? I gather the Flammenwerfer is kinda a theme of cleaning, as vultures do? Then the mask is mostly for fire/smoke protection reasons to begin with (dunno why they’re built in) and the bioresonance blocker is cause they deal with corrupted units and therefore areas with lots of biores risk. But then there’s the digitrade legs and other influences? What Mede the goobs into these goobs specifically?
HELLO SO IM BACK WOW FINALLY ANSWERING THIS. Big apologies for the late answer once again but i mustered up enough strength to answer this finally.
SO! GEIER YAP!
Alright it's not the besttt art to showcase the Geier anatomy but I tried (i am not an engineer im just a silly lesbian). But! Haza! Behold finaly a small cross section of what the in-built mask looks like . What I had in mind when first making Geiers was to make them bit more robotic like, slightly pulled away from gestalts since the anti-bioresonance module already dampens them . So limiting their face physicaly is another reminder of them being further from humanity. Just a tool. But they don't mind much dhdhfh they just kinda can't open their jaws fully as a human could or do big facial expressions.
In between the metal casings theres a high quality filtering mesh material (smth along those lines again i am not an engineer) that allows them to breathe through smoke and fire. The front part of the mask that is detachable , over mouth and nose actualy kinda just. Disables them ? They don't breathe through nose or mouth during those missions, the filtering vents take priority. I made them built in because it just seems like a natural step AEON would take I think when making new replikas , since I made Geiers pretty recent additions. It's just easier to produce and safer for them , no way to really yank the mask off . Funnily enough this does make the upkeeo of Geiers kinda uncanny , they have to kinda. Unhinge their jaws ferally to get to the filters to reolace them but most choose to just clean them regurarly.
For the legs I sketched this lil thing to showcase how I think the bi-pedal design would benefit a bit more than just regular stilts STARS or STORCHes have. Geiers have to dredge through insane amounts of muck and otherwordly flesh , corruption seeping through facilities or frontlines even. It's just faster to walk over those things with good agile legs that can pounce and move swiftly , kick into legs like that and the recovery of balance is a lot easier than just normal legs right ? Alsooo helps with their balance in general because they are forced to be a bit hunched over with those legs. Which balances perfectly the heavy tanks on their back. So it's a win win kinda.

For the inspo part u asked about I admitedly dont have. An insane amount to talk about , Geiers genuienly kinda just always have been in my head. But what i will fully admit what influenced me over years was probably the incredible portrayel of the Tallboys in Dishonored 1. They show up bit later in the game but they incredibly showcase the disgust and gap the guards and in general higher ups put between them and the infected poor. They literaly walk over the infected people , shooting from distance , towering imposibly it's fucking genius design. Soo here u go lil Geiers u get the dystopian legs too fjfjfj and as a bonus!
I kinda wanted to differentiate the legs too because of how vultures in general also have weird ass legs. Not even in the shape but the fact they on purpose bleach them (with feces shush) so that they dont have bits of corroded flesh stuck to them and get infected accidently. And very smallest inspo in general was Farentheit 451 with its potrayel of fire as "cleansing" the books , a nice twist on the usual firefighters which Geiers sorta are. Corruption firefighters.

As a closening note I find it interesting everyone thinks of the Flammenwerfer when looking at my Geiers, or any other kind of flamethrower replikas people make and i kinda. Don't suprisingly? My Geiers are cleaners. They're specialists for bioresonance fuck ups specificly. And that includes bioresonant units too , they may not take on a Falke one on one but 5 Geiers jumping a Falke that refuses to be decommisioned? Now that's a fight. But it's a rare sight so far , they excel in cleansing the horrors beyond comprehension and corpses.
I am not a gun nut admitedly , that's more your specialty Jay fhfhfjn but I kinda like it cause it differentiates my blorbos from other Geiers. War is big part of Signalises lore. But I can't ever stop thinking about what Arianes corruption caused in real global life. Terrifying thoughts.
#signalis#my art#signalis oc#geier#geier signalis#signalis fanart#i finalyyyy got this ask fully answered im so sorry again for the long wait jay life is BLEH#and ill get to u atlas too i have many thoughts on it its fucking awesome idea what u got i just wanna do it justice#but yeah geiers are funky and im weird for not thinking of soldiers immidietly in trenches and frontlines#but i just can never let go of the eldritch aspect if the bioresonance infections#wanna interact with it more#but yeee here yap hooe it is suitable :]#oh also tagging dishonored ig i did use some of its stuff#dishonored#tallboy#vultures
