Say what you will about the tone of any Dragon Age game, but I need DA fans to learn what "dark fantasy" means, and I need them to learn it in 2009.
"Dark fantasy" =/= "fantasy with dark themes". Fantasy that contains portrayals of sexual violence and racism isn't "dark fantasy", that's just regular ass adult fantasy, and very often even children's fantasy goes there too.
"Dark fantasy", as a subgenre, specifically means "fantasy + horror (in more or less equal measure)", and it means carrying that vibe for the entire narrative, not just in individual questlines. Bloodborne and Fear & Hunger are examples of dark fantasy games. Dragon Age: Origins is not dark fantasy. DAII is not dark fantasy. Inquisition doesn't even come close. Awakening and The Last Court are the only DA titles that really cross that threshold. I know Bioware and EA themselves call DA:O dark fantasy. They are lying, because "political fantasy" (the actual subgenre that the first 3 DA games fall into) doesn't sound as snappy in marketing.
Again, this is not to discount anyone discussing the vibe discrepancy between Veilguard and previous games, it's just
