Uh. Got a little carried away in the tags. But this is very interesting!
little joel on youtube got me wondering what the percentage is actually like. please reblog so i can get more responses and thus a more representative data pool for my demographic of "people who use tumblr in 2023"
#soooooo#i was put into gifted in first grade and it kinda sucked#because theyd pull me out of class and i missed fucking computer lab time!!!!!#but we did fun logic things so i couldn't be super mad.#then they started bussing us to a separate school during that time#wed do our logic puzzle stuff there#then play at their playground#then head back to my school where id get a second playground break and if i was lucky#id also get lunch. so id get two lunches. i was living big#then my parents sent me to a “gifted school”#which really was just all ND kids without appropriate teacher supervision and care.#and that was hell#for 3 years.#my parents said it was like lord of the flies but didnt take me out until i got bad grades (because thats how they are)#then i went to another nother school and was just in an advanced class. there wasnt a seperate gifted program. that school was wonderful#i did almost kill someone but i was young and really really really didn't understand consequences#then in middle school i went to another not gifted but effectively gifted school.#they split up students into two groups thst were basically seen as smart kids and average kids. but of course the average kids were treated#like they were all idiots#and i realized the gifted system just pits kids against each other and it would be better if we didnt have it#i excelled in school but thats it. I'm not socially adept.#my parents wouldn't let me do anything othwr than my absolute best at all times and were perpetually disappointed in me.#they said they were proud but i was always in trouble and never doing enough to keep them satisfied#they gave me extra summer work#by highschool they had completely stopped doing anything special if i got all As. thats just what was expected.#i remember in highschool i was taking a ton of advanced classes sophomore year#and i wanted to wait and do my college english later because i had such a heavy course load#and my mom flipped her shit and said i was slacking off and not living up to my potential#so i took it anyway#finished all my English classes forever before 11th grade

Hellllooo,
Omg I really needed more swiftie mutuals <3
Please rant about all things you like, i love rants, gosh we seem to have so many close interests, I am not a writer tho, but I do read, effectively making me a reader which doesn't sound as cool, now that I think about it.
My fav Taylor song at the moment is "Slut!". I cannot get that out of my head. I mean "got lovesick all over my bed", I die a little everytime I hear that.
Fav Olivia song at the moment is logical (kinda like you username aah). I still CANNOT get over "can't take a joke, can't get you off". Like please kill me already.
Fav Sabrina song at the moment is probably "because i liked a boy". (damn who hurt me?)
And fav conan song at the moment, "Lookalike"
Tell me yours?
Nyc.
xx
hiiii
omg thank you thank you thank youuuu <33
okay so i love a lot of things some of them are pretty questionable but I'm questionable literally ask anyone on the discord server so its fine. anywhoo, i love taylor, maisie, gracie, phoebe, alix page, lucy (dacus not myself I'm not THAT narcissistic), olivia hardy (from wasia project) julien, conan, liv, sab (and @loserdiaz but that's a known fact) and so many other people to the point that even i cant keep track. oh and i love laufey, mitski and lyn lapid just bc.
my current fav by wasia project is petals on the moon but ur so pretty especially live from the studio is so gooddd
anywayss, reading is really cool thats how i got into writing (which is the best thing ever ik /hj) i also really really like reading bc it makes me smart and it's super fun
which is your favourite book series?? mine is lockwood and co as if you couldn't already tell by the amount of times I've mentioned it i also really love agggtm series bc why wouldn't it its so good. I'm sure i love so many more book series but my memory sucks (it does not but I'm lazy so I'll use that as an excuse)
anywhooo, i love scream which is weird bc i watched the first one when i was 10 (i know, who let me do that???) and i... liked it? (I'm very questionable i know) but i also tend to rant about it as if its real life (like WHY DID THEY KILL OF *insert name of dead character* IM SO MAD) and not a movie so I'm a bit annoying sometimes but pls don't tell me that otherwise I'll start crying /j
hmm my favourite taylor song atm would be "is it over now?" or "now that we don't talk" bc at the moment i resonate so well with those songs (ikr my life sounds like a nightmare: it is but it isn't really? idk) at yes i totally agree with the "got lovesick all over my bed statement but" also "love thorns all over this rose" and omg "you're not saying you're in love with me, BUT !! YOURE !! GONNA !! DO !!" like who gave taylor the right to be such a mastermind (funny, right? no? okay.) like the entire song, heck the entire album is so GOOD. HER ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY IS SO GOOD. (this is totally normal fan behaviour btw)
favourite liv song atm is probably lacy but i love all of the songs all the album (and yes logical is soooo good i mean i have to love it otherwise my url is meaningless) but my favourite lyric from the entire album is probably "we both drew blood but man THOSE CUTS were NEVER EQUAL!!" from the grudge (also one of my top 3) bc that hits DEEP. (bc the cuts were deep, i know I'm so funny /j)
favourite sab song atm is prolly cindy lou who / opposite (been there) / a nonsense christmas. i cheated but i simply cant choose one shes too good. also super funny bc cindy lou who and opposite are like sad vibes and then a nonsense christmas i want you to [redacted] and [redacted] me on the couch while we [redacted] presents (sorry i just think I'm so funny when I'm not but dont tell me that i wanna be a stand up comedian no I'm just kidding I'm not a failure. IM JOKING) (also regarding bc i liked a boy, I agree. who hurt you???)
anyways, my favourite conan song atm is prolly the best known option "heather" BUT i also like "the cut that always bleeds" the entire of kid krow tbh
okay i wrote a lot asdxcasdcvafd sorry
alsooo, you didnt ask this but my favourite gracie abrams song atm is "where do we go now?" and "cedar" (you arent mine) bc its such a heartbreaking song especially when you can relate to it. ooh and i also love camden, painkillers, rockland and long sleeves but they're all pretty depressing so if you don't like sad songs they're prolly not for you.
and THANK YOU for this ask this was so fun send me more sometimes <333

Didn't QUITE make the landing (for me): what's that about?
***spoilers***
Last post was about a movie that hinged around a Seeing My Best Friend With Fresh Eyes story arc (and had fun pushing the edges/ expectations for the New Best Friend But He's Gay bonus plotline).
This is also a Finding Her Way Back To Her Best Friend which - *for me, mind!* - started really well and ended pretty well and went wonky at the two thirds mark (but top marks for sticking to the plot logics).
Another similarity? The lead female actor wrote the script. (Okay, for the other movie, it was the lead female actor as co-writer and perhaps this is the kind of thing that benefits from a writing partnership? That call to tread the line between ludicrous and heart-warming. Always a balance. So hard to stay exactly on target.)
Things I particularly liked - that the female MC's business WASN'T failing, at least, not until AFTER she committed to some of the madness of the Chase The Exposure plot - and that she at one point has a moment of realisation: What am I doing? We were okay - why am I risking everything for this mad possible step up??
And, given the kind of movie we're in, it's both inevitable and also pleasing that everything comes round in the end.
Actually, scratch that - really pleasing that this movie serves a HEA without requiring the female lead to give up her Silly Little Notions of self-sufficiency. [Yay for a female writer i.e. a writer who empathises with the female MC's desire to be a rounded, independent person i.e. a writer who has more respect than that for the character!}
The other thing I like is that the male MC is - and remains - a Didn't Make It Yet musician whose main gig is as a wedding singer. She's an ordinary person (admittedly with a Special Gift she's temporarily refusing to listen to, which seems... illogical...) and - so is he. <3 <3
Things that pleased me less - the Big City girl being all like Use Your Gift for me oh but get me THAT guy specifically (i.e. don't use your gift the way it's supposed to be used) and she's like NO PROBLEM.
And - the feeding lines to her Magazine client to help her catch the former best friend / obviously supposed to be HER love interest. NO.
And - they drifted apart. Like, okay, but he's loved you for years. Surely, without some Incident he would at least remember to email?
Re movie production co -
This one actually IS Hallmark - I rarely get to see these due to being Too Mean To Subscribe Directly - but apparently Amazon Prime is more inclined to buy in from Hallmark these days, so *shrug*?
[In the past, most of them seemed to be - Reel One - which, by the way, I didn't hate but were reliably teeny tiny of budget and thus struggling every time they couldn't avoid shooting a "crowd" scene.]
More importantly - look at that MOON. The huge, dreamy, slightly apricot-tinged full moon that's painted into the titles - from the colour (which of course is faked/enhanced as needed) it super reminds me of the way the full moon looks whenever it's rising over the sea and not yet very high above the horizon. Exaggeratedly large and often a fake-looking peach tinge to the disc and the light trail.
I went off idly looking for content about how much poets love writing about the moon (seemed to be a Thing from when I was writing quite a bit of poetry and in the rounds of submitting to online journals).
Didn't really find anything - there was a Too Serious analysis of Walt Whitman on the American Academy poetry site and a subscriber-only Medium essay - and I was genuinely a little surprised that I wasn't INUNDATED by poet moon takes and bad poetry moon jokes.
What I did find, instead, and thought was super cute (if perhaps unlikely to lead to v successful poems??) was the following guide to writing astronomically accurate moon haikus. Thank you, NASA <3.
By contrast, someone who did both astrophysics and poetry extremely well was the physics prodigy Rebecca Elson - who I came to know about originally through The Marginalian and I'm delighted to see that an extract of one of her poems being read, and by Patti Smith no less, is still available on their website - from a 2022 event.
PS lowering the tone but when I was going through some old screengrabs, I found this one, which - I guess - could be positioned as "poet moon obsession critique"??
PPS not a moon poem, rather a moon joke - but a good one IMO:
