Okay then. Will is borin- NOOOOO no, I kid XD I love him so much. He's my favourite TNG character. Especially because *gestures to horrible father* My types of blorbos are either 1) team parent 2) had shitty parents (WE WILL IGNORE WHAT THOSE TWO THINGS SAY ABOUT ME-) or 3) genuinely caring and loyal to their loved ones. And Will falls in the latter two categories. So yeah, I think he's a lovely dude ^_^

There are so many little things to Riker as a character or ideas about Riker in general that I could go on and on about if only I were more articulate.

As sad as Riker's upbringing was, I wish it had been explored a bit more. I wish anything about Riker had been explored more than him just telling us. From two years to his second year at the Academy was all one big trauma, and his first assignment didn't go great either.

How the fuck did this man who was set up to be justifiedly bitter and angry with the world turn out to be not that???

At least there is Fandom, and Riker seems to have his own little cult in that. Together we've managed to take what little the writers gave us and - not so much change aspects of a character - expand upon it. And it helps these character like Riker (Beverly and Deanna are in that same boat too) who's not really as well appreciate for what they added to the TNG family.

Please understand when I say "we" I am not just meaning those who create the ideas, but also those who share it. An idea can not spread if it is not shared after all.

As for myself, I find it extremely validating to be able to throw out an idea that came to me at 1am and have people approve of it. I've talked before about how difficult it is for me to engage socially without unwarranted fear, but the Star Trek Fandom - at least on tumblr- has been a surprisingly warm place for me? Idk, this is literally the only Fandom I've actively engaged in.
