Quick update after watching the second "Sword Art Online: Progressive" movie: Asuna definitely still sends some marvellous Utena Tenjou vibes when fighting.

We now even have a scene that in my eyes perfectly counts as a fencing duel. Loved it!

Revolutionize the World - of Aincrad?!

Just watched the first "Sword Art Online: Progressive" movie which tells the story of SAO season 1 from Asuna Yuuki's point of view. Not only do I find this a much better way to tell this story, revisiting SAO after I finally watched "Revolutionary Girl Utena" made me realize that the "Linear" sword skill that Asuna uses as integral part of her fighting style looks a lot like Utena Tenjou's finishing move in the RGU fencing duels.
