#but unlearning those mindsets doesn't actually give us the time and tools to fight back

"Too lazy" to fight for better is what capitalists want you to think. Saying we're "too lazy" to fight for better takes the blame for our shitty conditions off of them and put it on us. Instead of the truth that these conditions are specifically designed to take up all our time and exhaust us to the point that any free time we have is spent thinking about anything other than work, we have this false narrative that Americans must on some level be okay with what we have because we're obviously "too lazy" to fight for better. If we weren't lazy, we'd be fighting, right?
Combine that with the truth that a lot of Americans genuinely don't realize there's even a "better" to fight for, and you have a population of people who can only ever grumble quietly because grumbling loudly gets them hurt.
Meanwhile in France:
#look working-class americans have a lot of genuine flaws but don't you dare say this one is our fault#not only are we told that this is just how life is and if you can't handle it you're weak#not only is overworking glorified and celebrated#but unlearning those mindsets doesn't actually give us the time and tools to fight back#oh and since so many of us are depressed or otherwise mentally ill as a result of the system we live in?#the thought of using our last drops of physical and mental energy on something else that's difficult and demanding is not an appealing one#sometimes at the end of a long workday you just wanna drop into your comfy chair and watch your favorite tv show#and that doesn't make you lazy#that makes you a hurt person doing their best to recover in order to keep going#y'know what? sometimes just being alive and not broken down is spitting in the face of capitalism#the stereotype of the lazy american is a myth#if you look at america and your only explanation for it is 'they're lazy' then you don't know enough about american life to comment on it#if seemingly the only barrier to change is 'laziness' then there's something else going on that you're missing#look for another explanation. there is always something more there
