Meet Max (short for Maxwell). . Here's his story from @dswt website -> thedswt.org/maxwell . The 6th February 2007 began as an ordinary day, but ended up anything but ordinary due to the discovery of blind yearling baby rhino in the Park forest #Kenya about 3 kms. from our Headquarters. The elephant Keepers, who were out in the forest as usual with their charges, heard the rhino crying, and went to investigate. He was running around aimlessly, there being no sign of his mother. The KWS Rhino Unit was summonsed, and together they and our Keepers monitored the little rhino until dusk from a good distance so as not to disturb him or the possibility of his mother returning, and when there was still no sign of the mother, something had to be done to spare him from being taken by predators during the night. . By calling him with the rhino “come” sound (a soft exhalation of breath), he followed the Elephant Keepers and KWS Rangers for the 3 kms until near the Trust buildings, when he spooked at the strange sounds, blindly charging all and sundry and almost downing Daphne (Founder of @dswt) in the process who had to resort to diving into a nearby bush! . By now it was quite obvious that he was completely blind in both eyes, for both his eyes were opaque. He was then physically overpowered, which took all the strength of about l0 men and although just a year old, he could certainly pack a punch and was immensely powerful. . With legs tied he was then carried on the elephant Rescue Tarpaulin to a vacant stable, where he was released, and proceeded to almost demolish the timbers of the stable. Apart from his eyes, he was in good physical condition, so he could not have been without his mother for long. (Her disappearance and ultimate fate still remains a mystery.) • • • [Continue reading...] open this link -> thedswt.org/maxwell or see my latest blog post about my incredible date with him, direct link in bio. . #AdventuresOfSylvia #MagicalKenya #DSWT . {MINI BLOG POST} Well, a couple of weeks back, I was at Karura Forest which is located in the northern part of Nairobi city #Kenya and is also one of the largest urban gazetted forests in the world. . My mission.....To find the waterfall that is deep in the forest. . However, I didn't get to see it that day. I wandered aimlessly through the forest until getting lost got a whole new meaning 😂😂 . They say "If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again." Thus, I was there today armed with strength and determination to find the waterfall. . It was such a long trek! Back & forth was 14 kms but I must say, the view was certainly worth it, don't you agree? LIFE LESSON: The road ahead maybe unclear and you may feel like giving up or unmotivated, but I say keep pushing yourself, do you best, if doesn't work out try and try again....In the end when you succeed, mehn! the victory is sweeter! Have a good week ahead ✌ #AdventuresOfSylvia #MagicalKenya #TembeaKenya Photo taken with Samsung Note 3 @samsungkenya (at Karura Forest)

{MINI BLOG POST} Y'all know I am always looking out for new exciting things to do and giving my honest review, right? Well, here's one event I attended yesterday and that I highly recommend you look out for the next one....trust me, you won't be disappointed! Recommended by my friend @trioplayali, I didn't think that I would enjoy it that much. . The organisers - @mydocubox (an East Africa documentary film fund that presents independent documentary films that engage the audience and initiate dialogue on world issues) were presenting a film called 'Concerning Violence -Narrated by actress and musician Lauryn Hill'. It was being screened from 6.30pm- 9pm at Mageuzi Theatre, @pawa254, off Statehouse Cresent Rd #Nairobi #Kenya. . Before the film started, 'FreeQuencee' (a Kenyan -US based activitst) presented her own colonialism speaks to Mwende...couldn't have been more perfect! . My take about the film: Wow. I really mean it. Wow. If you have read 'The Wretched of the Earth' by Franz Fanon then you'll definitely fall in love with this film. It's divided into nine chapters as per its subtitle, Nine Scenes from the Anti-Imperialistic Self-Defense, it presents clips that are purposeful and bursting with interest of various African countries, all in the midst of upheavals during the 1960s & '70s. One particularly devastating clip is of a one-armed Mozambique woman standing in a black venus-like position as she breastfeeds her one-armed infant, both victims of a European-sanctioned napalm-bomb attack 😢😕 ....the entire film is very insightful and it's a MUST SEE film. DOCUBOX presents other films so make sure you don't miss out! Every last Wednesday of the month they have something new & exciting to show. Follow their social media pages to get updates. P.S. The film was absolutely free, you just need to sign up to book a spot. #AdventuresOfSylvia #MagicalKenya #TembeaKenya . Photo taken with Samsung Note 3 @samsungkenya

Would you like to be featured in my blog or/and instagram? Well, I have this series called 'Aerial views' which features guest photographers and travellers. (Current article, link is in the bio ☝) . All you got to do is, take pictures of the place you are visiting or living from above not necessarily from a building, you can be creative! Then write a small description of the photo and write something about yourself (optional- links can be included about yourself). Then send it to [email protected]. If you want to be featured on instagram only, then a tag is enough 😊 . Sounds like a good idea? .... Note: it can be anywhere you are in the world. All photos and description should be a representation of your own work. . The above photo is bird eye view of #Nairobi, #Kenya. #TembeaKenya #MagicalKenya Photography by @frankdi254 (at Nairobi, Kenya)
