#but tldr: bakugou is basic - shigaraki is a more likeable eren jaeger - and shouto is too emotionally self aware to be a shounen protag

And to add on to the previous person's statement most of the rescuing scenes get overshadowed by the fights they're typically shown in quicker sequences compared to those fights also dekus influence on others is brought up a whole lot of times but his unreliable narrator status still hasn't been cured yet because no one has told him of his impact on others directly yet
Well yeah, this is a battle shounen manga. The fights are going to take up more panel time that's a staple of the genre.
BNHA is one of the few manga where I wish we spent less time in the protagonist's head in the first half of the manga. Because a lot of readers have internalized Izuku's view of himself as fact. BNHA is full of unreliable narrators, but when we stay in the head of one too long, people start taking that pov as gospel.
I'm not saying we should of had a different protagonist. I like Izuku as the the protagonist for BNHA. Quite frankly, it's usually the worst of the Bakugou, Shouto, or Shigaraki stans saying otherwise. And if you want a Bakugou as protagonist, go read about 50% of other shounen for a usually less insufferable version of Bakugou. As for if you want a Shigaraki is protagonist and wins story, Attack on Titan is right there...
I have more empathy for the Shouto as protagonist arguments because unlike Izuku, Shouto has been able to address his trauma and is allowed to feel resentment for his abuser. And there wouldn't be nearly as many Izuku haters if the reader spent more time in Shouto's headspace... But it wouldn't work with the story Horikoshi is trying to tell for two reasons: (1) Shouto tends to be rather self/family focused so most of the worldbuilding and society-wide themes would be missing and (2) Shouto's character arc is primarily based in his emotional growth and this is a battle shounen.
