Spoken language(s): they’re pretty adept without the translator. mercy is fluent in english and creole, passable french and korean, and readily picks up phrases in other languages. after being reconstructed, a translator was literally built into mercy. they resent its presence sometimes.

basics ! MODERN VERSE

FULL NAME.  Madarame Ikkaku

NICKNAME.   The Dragon { stagename - he’s not thrilled about it lol }

GENDER.  Male.

HEIGHT.   5'11½" ft / 182 cm

AGE.   25. ZODIAC. Scorpio.

SPOKEN LANGUAGES. English / Japanese. He is fluent in both. He was raised on Japanese by his parents, but he hasn’t lived in Japan since he was 2 years old, he went to an American public school ( both elementary and high school ) and learned English there. He often translated for his parents.

physical characteristics !

HAIR COLOR.  If he didn’t shave his head he’s have black hair.

EYE COLOR.   Grey. In direct light they are very cool/light, but they can also approach black. SKIN TONE.    Light, with a yellow undertone.

BODY TYPE.  Built/athletic. He has taken care of his body from a very young age and tends to eat a healthy diet. He rarely skips his exercise routine. He cares less about his physique and more about what it can do though. His muscle is moreso functional muscle than aesthetic muscle.

ACCENT.   He speaks with a drawl. He grew up in ghetto neighbourhoods as well as while speaking a very different language as his second language. Native Japanese speaking people are also able to tell his Japanese is different, even if it isn’t heavily accented at all.

VOICE.    A very average register. Can get very raspy especially when he is yelling. His voice is frankly little-used lol he prefers to act rather than to talk a lot. DOMINANT HAND.  Ambidextrous. He started to train with two handed weapons and staff-like weapons at a young age. He does prefer his right hand though.

POSTURE.   Generally good, but very casual and chill. Doesn’t sit properly most of the time. does a lot of ‘manspreading’.

SCARS.   He has many smaller scars that aren’t very noticeable, and one large scar from his left shoulder downwards across his torso to about his navel. 

TATTOOS.  He has the edges of his eyes tattooed red. As well as a large red dragon across his back.

MOST NOTICEABLE FEATURE(S).   His eyes are probably the most noticeable, as it is not very usual to tattoo that part of your body. Besides that they are very piercing.

PLACE OF BIRTH.    Japan. He lived in a smaller township a while away from Kyoto. Near Mount Hiei. HOMETOWN.    His hometown is the same town he was born. It was a real ‘everybody knows everybody kind of town. If he went back there is a good chance people that live there will remember his parents. Unfortunately he has yet to figure out what the name of the town was.  BIRTH WEIGHT.   Average, even though his mother was worried because of their poor living situation BIRTH HEIGHT.    Average as well.

MANNER OF BIRTH.  Natural. At home. The towndoctor was there, but it was an easy birth, especially for it being a first child.

FIRST WORDS. His first words were kaasan, neko and tousan in that order. His father worked a lot and he spent more time around his mother and the cats in the garden.

PARENTS.   Deceased. They were very caring and loving parents though.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT.    Both his mother and father were very involved with his well-being. So much that after the war that somewhat derailed Japan, they decided to use all their resources to emigrate to the states. They got there with only a few family artifacts and very little money. It resulted in both his father and mother having to work very long hours as soon as he was in school and could take care of himself. They saved all their spare money to send him to school. In the end he dropped out to pursue professional sport though.

OCCUPATION.  He works as an (illegal) underground fighter. Currently at Hueco Mundo, but he’s been at different underground clubs since he started in the business.

CURRENT RESIDENCE.   He lives in an apartment complex in a neighbourhood between ghetto and inner city. It is not the worst environment but also not the best. He and Yumichika practically live together, but Yumichika still has his own apartment in the same complex.

CLOSE FRIENDS.  He doesn’t have very many friends. He considers Nnoitra { @despairforme } a workfriend, and he is of course friends with his boyfriend { @narkissismos } besides them there is his gymbuddy, Renji { my own muse @monkifuraibo hah }, and thats about it.

RELATIONSHIP STATUS.  Taken. Ikkaku is with Yumichika { @narkissismos }.

FINANCIAL STATUS.   Middle-lower class. He makes enough money to survive every month and have a little left over to put away in a bank account, but he’d frankly be a big accident away from bankruptcy. 

DRIVER’S LICENSE. Doesn’t feel the need for one. Though he could probably drive fine if he put his mind to it. 

CRIMINAL RECORD.  None. He tends to err on the careful side of the law. Though there are incidents that might have gotten him an assault charge if anyone had reported it.

VICES.  He drinks whenever he feels like it, though he usually knows when to stop. Yumichika can be either a ridiculously good impulse control, or a horrible enabler.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION.  Greysexual. He doesn’t feel the urge to have sex as much, but he does it out of convention { it is what is expected of him } and because it feels good to get off. ROMANTIC ORIENTATION.   Demi-romantic as well as homo-romantic. Ikkaku knows he is only ever loved one person { yumichika }, that person was a man, ergo he is gay. RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES.  He is rather chill. He doesn’t mind going along with what Yumichika wants in a lot of cases. There are very few things they really argue about, different from a bit of bickering about little things. Ikkaku will check Yumichika when he is out of line though and functions as a bit of a voice of reason. Ikkaku is very emotionally healthy, even if he can be a bit of a closed book, there is no lock on him. Whenever Yumichika wants to know something he only need ask and Ikkaku will share with him. He has the tendency to be a bit jealous when people flirts with Yumi { he is very beautiful, it can’t be helped }, but overall their relationship is very healthy.

**DRUG ADDICTION TW** the doctors called it acute stress disorder. it wasn’t something they completely understood. lip showed up to therapy session after therapy session, going no where. eventually, they began to fake that they were better, saying that they were responding positively to the SSRIs they were prescribed. in reality, they weren’t taking the SSRIs. instead, they found comfort in popping percocet a few times a week. for now, it hasn’t gone past a maximum of four a week, but they have considered increasing intake. **TW OVER**

i stopped being a huge fan of anime when every anime girl started looking like ten year olds literally just to pander to 23 year old guys who jerk off to young moe girls

i hate to sound like that person thats like “i was born in the wrong generation :(” but its not a rebellious notion for the sake of being edgy; 80s-early 2000s anime was just the most appealing to me. i feel like since 2010 the anime industry has just plummeted into this manufactured dark age where theres no real plot thought into it and its made just mainly burnt out cookie cutter 19 year old anime girls that look like theyre 10

the 80s-90s style was common but at least it wasnt plastered on every anime girl’s face. i literally dont want to go surfing for examples but a lot of it is seen on 4chan or whatever as reaction pics and such. and these are animes that ive never heard of or seen like theyre being pitched out at the speed of light. where are they even airing on but you know what im talking about. that love-live whatever kinda stuff and im not saying every post 2010 anime is bad nor am i saying every pre 2010 anime is good. it was just a simpler more enjoyable time to be an anime fan, like now you have to be cautious of someone with a moe girl icon because he is likely to be a nazi or white supremacist some shit. if they say kek you run

i really like when animes have their own unique art styles and you can tell who a character is without confusing them for another from a different show and i know its certainly a lot more time consuming and costly but i really really loved cel animation from the 70s-90s animes. like that really specific unique bright yet muted palette where whites were off-color, the simple cel-shading and contrasting to the main colors, none of that gradient stuff

now i have to say i love the style of LWA, paswg, jjba (both 1993 and 2012) but man the animation in the 1993 ova was stunning, hell even the pokemon sm anime i think has improved from the stoic bw/xy character models. its so much more fun and expressive and it still hasnt given in to those infectious perfect-circle-huge-iris-gradient eyes thank god

the few animes i tend to get attached to seem to be more continuity-driven with a firm storyline that keeps you on your toes and makes you wanna binge until you cant keep your eyes open anymore. and jojo does just that for me. not to mention that new anime lately has been overwhelmingly slice of life. as i said earlier, its more about the market of cloning kawaii anime girls rather than thinking of a decent storyline. we’re talking like king of the hill kinda slice of life but with fanservice and hardly any diversity.

these animes are like a typical japanese school setting every fucking episode or sports anime (sans the Beach Episode™) and fanservice. just sellin figurines and making bank over the same plots with lazy slight changes

see now a story of searching the globe for a shitass egomaniacal vampire and taking on a trio of aztec fitness gods head to head is goddamn legendary over this

another thing i like about jojo is that it retained its 80s art style even in the 2012 anime, only now its made with cg. no character looks perfect and symmetrical, including the women. holly joestar has a dimple on her left cheek i noticed

what i find hilarious though is that rather than having a 25 year old character look like theyre 16, a 16 year old character looks like a 25 year old. unlike the former i highly doubt this has to do with fanservice (i cant think of one person who finds muscles that bulging to be hot) because it honestly just lets the series live up to its name, jojos bizarre adventure. its supposed to be so over-the-top and extra all the time, with the serious blocky stroke shaded art style and the supernatural events and whatnot. and besides having a 16 year old boy look and act like a 25 year old isnt as creepy as infintalizing a woman to act like shes a submissive prepubescent 10 year old when she damn well could act and look her age and fight back if she needs to

and jojo is actually entertaining as im watching it and it has literally every classic dramatic shounen anime trope but then i realized jjba IS the grandfather of a majority of these tropes.

and FUCK ALSO jojo does diversity a great favor. were talking multiple characters who for once ARENT a cast of all japanese protagonists. like when i saw mohammed avdol as a main supporting character i was shook because like, how often are middle eastern people represented in anime as main recurring characters?? hes like a fav hes awesome

“ZA WARUDO (clock fart noise)” is much more likeable than “u-uwaa~” the show is like watching extra comedic wrestling rather than a sexualized catfight and i wish a lot more modern anime had that same kinda jojo ridiculousness and focused less on marketability and more on heart and creativity

i think what im trying to say is..its hard for me to respect modern anime? as a creator and seeing the potential going to waste due to capitalistic roots becoming more apparent it just makes me lose respect, and the audience its pandering to makes it more shameful

When was the last time you cried? God i cabt remember. Probably a few weeks ago when i was so so stressed over my shitty brain. It's just that ever since my youth I've hated expressing my sadness by crying, especially in public.

Ultra-running is one of the worlds fastest growing sports, generally taking place in remote, scenic landscapes. Not an athletics way in London. Will opponents contact nirvana?

I hallucinated, of course. I ever do, Pat Seabrook says. She is 76 and has expended the past 24 hours flowing round a 400 m athletics track in Tooting, south London. She sits in the front seat of her car, peeling plasters off her toes. At some degree I began to think the white routes on the trail were lassoes, rising up around me, and I was pushing them away. She chortles: Frequently I run with my friend and we take turns to hallucinate.

Along with 44 other athletes, Seabrook has just vied in the Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 24 -hour Track Race. Ultra-running, in which opponents take part in hastens longer than a marathon and often 100 miles or more, is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with brand-new races propelling all the time; the most difficult ones have been forced to introduce lottery to systematically cope with the numbers who want to enter. But part of the appeal of these races is that they usually take place amid some of the worlds most remote and scenic landscapes, such as the Sahara or the Rockies. Not around a line in Tooting.

The winner, James Stewart, moves a mind-boggling 160 miles over the course of the day. Its hard to comprehend, watching him plug away, lap after lap: 160 miles, without going anywhere. He could have moved all the way to Cardiff, but hes still here, on the trail in Tooting.

Seabrook is the oldest opponent here and considers 83 miles during the course of its race. Its not that great, she says, gathering off another plaster. Last year I operated 87. As well as innumerable 24 -hour races, she has also move 456 marathons. She didnt even start loping until her late 40 s, when all her children had grown up and left home. I required something to prevent me busy, Seabrook says. What else am I going to do on a Saturday?

Yet in spite of her low-key attitude, something else is going on here. The race was started virtually 30 years ago by adherents of the late Indian spiritual coach Sri Chinmoy, who believed that ranging was integral to a spiritual life.

You can only understand it if you try it.

In Japan, monks on Mount Hiei run 1,000 marathons in 1,000 daylights in a effort to reach enlightenment. One of the monks once told him that the idea behind the constant shift is to spend the memory, the body, everything, until nothing is left and you are almost dead. When you are nothing, then something pop! comes up to crowded the cavity, he said, miming a bubble popping. That something, he told me, is the immense consciousness that lies below the surface of our lives a feeling of oneness with the universe.

I suppose Im trying to find my restriction, he says. Perhaps when I find it, Ill stop.

Shankara Smith, the race director, says that the biggest challenge is yourself. Sri Chinmoy used to say its not mind over thing, but middle over attention. If you cant stillnes that brain, then you cant do it, because your brain will tell you you cant. Here, you cant tell yourself its you versus that mountain, because there is no mountain. Its merely you versus you.

Smith has watched the hasten each year since it started in 1989, when her father was the hasten director. I desire it, she says. If youre here at 3am, the city is quiet , nothing is going on, but on the line, the atmosphere is zinging. But too peaceful.

I spend a few hours watching the smugglers lap the racetrack. Everyone seems in good spirits; its a chilly, overcast afternoon, which is fine for the runners, and while a few have gone off rapidly at the front, most are running well within themselves, chitchatting to one another and joking with the officials. I decide to get some food and rest.

Driving back to the line at 3am, I find it hard to imagine they are all still moving but, for sure, out on the floodlit line 15 hours after they started, the smugglers are still going around and around. About 10( principally those who started at the figurehead in the first few hours) have discontinued out.

Some of those left look as if theyre in pain, their trot modes twisted and contorted. Many are amble, but even that gazes difficult. One boy with a shaven chief is walking gradually with his fists clenched; he examines as if he wants to punch person. They have nine hours left to go.

Some parties stand out, mollifies and compiled. One of them is 68-year-old Ann Bath. Shes not very fast, shes a little inclination over, but she used merciles. While others rarely stop for a rub, or to eat something, she presses serenely on, never stopping. In the end, she extends an incredible 116 miles, an age-group macrocosm record.

Holmes, the management consultant, smiles when he sees me again. He is now ambling cautiously and his knee is heavily buckled. I envisage Ive felt my restriction, he says. At the end of every lap, the runners elapse a tent full of the persons with big clipboards and rolls of numbers. The lap bars have to wave to their smuggler each time to show theyve registered the lap, and the runners typically curve back to double check their lap has been counted. As the hours change, an intimacy builds up. They get to know one another well, there are still lots of chuckling and joking. The athletes say it devotes them a lift.

Youre examining beautiful, he replies, his startled smile now prepared permanently across his face, perhaps shielding the pain. When I catch him along the back straight-out, he tells me he misses his friends. Commonly I run with sidekicks, he says. Without them here to tell me to stop being an dumb, I cant find the will to try running again. So he treads. But he doesnt stop.

Around the track, many of the corroborate crews are sleeping on chairs or on the flooring. Lauren Howes, whose lover, Cameron Humphries, is doing his first 24 -hour race, is struggling to understand what shes doing up there. I dont get it, she says. Its like a religion. His heroes are not Brad Pitt or George Clooney, but some ultra-runner guy.

If Im not leading, Im crewing.

Although at times it seemed that it would never come, lastly, at just before midday, we get the bell celebrating the last five minutes of the race. For the final few laps, the runners are joined on the track by family and friends. Parents run propping mitts with “their childrens”, pairs flow, or move, arm in arm. One serviceman decides to start sprinting, his support crew struggling to keep up, while another carries his young daughter. One lady, clearly in affliction, is accompanied by her concerned partner and two teenage sons. When the hooter goes to signal the end, she abounds into snaps. Others collapse on the dirt where they are, or hug the nearest party. I find myself close to tears.

One runner, the shaven-headed husband with the clenched fists he didnt unclench them the entire race is ambling back alone across the infield. I ask if hes OK. He looks at me blankly for a moment, as though Ive simply emerged out of the field. I simply need to lie down, he says in the meekest spokesperson Ive ever heard.

And so it intentions. I suspect theyll all go back to their jobs and parties will ask them if theyre mad. Why? parties will request. Why would you do such a thing? And theyll likely be unable to answer. But theyll be getting back next year to do it all over again.
