i feel like p4's writers simultaneously wanted to address the issue of homophobia and also had literally no idea how to and gave up partway through-
#puppy rambles#persona 4#p4#which is simultaneously amusing and upsetting#idk i wanna give the writers the benefit of the doubt here. it was 2009 so i can't fully blame them even if it's obviously still lame#it def feels like that's what they were going for with kanji's arc at first#and i feel like it probably would've been at least somewhat addressed had yosuke's romance not been removed#but they kinda just. don't bring it up past the camping trip ever#hope they can get better at this kind of thing in the future#given p3p (which iirc did release after og p4) and p3r i do feel like they probably can. they're taking a step in the right direction#who knows though. i hope they do get better and that if they ever remake p4 that they amend this stuff#for the record i'm not fully knowledgeable on some of this stuff cuz i've been playing modded#and have the version of the yosuke romance mod that changes that one scene during the camping trip to not be homophobic-#persona games are products of their time in a lot of cases and this is how that's reflected for p4 sadly đ

__ His type __
It hadnât been eventful at camp in a couple years, probably since you had come to camp. Youâd never gotten sent on a quest, as much as you wouldâve loved to finally go back to the rest of the world, you had never been involved in big drama around camp, had never had your life at risk from a surprise attack in the woods and had barely even been the target of a silly prank.
Your life for the past years had mostly consisted of training, eating, sleeping and praying at the most, maybe you had squealed once in excitement the day you discovered who your godly parent was, but that was it. Over the time youâd started making friends, seeing as you barely had any half-siblings, going out with people from other cabins more than from the one you lived in, the Hermes cabin. Because, apparently, you did not deserve a half-family cabin if you werenât child of one of the major deities. Harsh.
But over the course of the past few months, you had surprised yourself being more⌠full of emotions that before, and all because of a silly reason. Blame it on late blooming of teenage hormones, but you were by now knees deep in a one sided crush on Luke Castellan, a crush you considered profoundly stupid when he had basically everything to himself and could just attract anyone heâd want. You had started noticing him only recently, after years of being acquaintances ; youâd first met him a few days after reaching camp, when he apparently came back from a quest, just a 16 years old teenager, short messy brown hair and almost-chubby face in comparison to the present.
But nowâŚ. you could spend tens of minutes speaking of him, even if you would afterwards brush it off as mere observance, speaking of his looks, his personality, his habits... How he had grown taller over the span of barely a trimester, how his curl started looking so defined and shiny when he had finally started taking care of his hair after youâd spent a whole 10 minutes, at a party on the beach, dissing it. How he had this determination to him whenever he did something, like he would solely focus on it just to succeed, how he took care of the newcomers ever since he got promoted to head counselor of his cabin, making sure they had everything and didnât feel the tiniest bit alone, even going out of his way to ensure they were comfortable after the never-ending stress that was their trip to camp. How, even through his practiced mask of kindness and laid-back attitude, he had this small tick on his face and this tilt of his head when he was annoyed, how he would always rub right over his scar first when he defeated someone during sword trainingâŚ
Clarisse and Silena always made fun of you whenever you would bring Luke up, knowing they were in for a ride because it was more often than not a flow of words they couldnât stop until it did on its own.
And it was the case just this instant.
âArgh, why do I even like guys, huh ? Thatâs fucking bland, I swearâŚâ you said, throwing your arms in the air in defeat.
You were all sat at a small table, no too far from the training grounds but just a little away from the path that went towards it, so there was just a little privacy. The sun was high up in the sky and you four girls, Annabeth having joined the group after lunch, were thankful for the shadow cast upon you by the large tree above the table.
âI mean, yeah, it is, but I canât throw the first stone at you on that one..â Selina answered, shaking her head with a small smile and a raise of her eyebrows.
âAnd are you reaaaally that disappointed by men, huh ? Because, weirdly, something tells me otherwise, girl.â Clarisse chimed in as she put her card down and cheered a little, playing War against an Annabeth who looked clearly exasperated by her own lack of luck. âSomething with curly hair and a flirty smile.â
âUgh, donât even start me on himâŚâ you replied, running your hands on your face in exaggerated frustration. âI swear, heâs so.. ugh.. Like, sure, you know, heâs cute, and heâs tall and stuff, but itâs such a pain to have a crush on a boy, you get me ? And even more when the boy knows heâs good looking and plays along. Would be so much easier with a gir-â
âNot much easier with a girl.â
âSure, Clarisse, sure, whatever you say like you have experience.â you replied, nodding your head at her like youâd do to a child while Clarisse held back from saying something else. âI just mean, guys just feel so simple-headed but- I donât knowâŚâ
âYou do know.â Annabeth only replied in a knowing tone, not tearing her eyes from the game she was loosing against Clarisse.
âOkay yeah, I do know. Itâs just- Heâs so infuriating! Like-â you caught a rustle in a bush nearby on your side, head snapping towards it, but came back to the conversation when you saw nothing. â-what do you mean you flirt with every single person, you know ? I donât mean it like Iâm jealous, by the way, itâs just really misleading.â The three other girls looked between themselves with a similar, shared gaze. âItâs not even like he seems to have a type, like- bro just picks up another girl at a party, they chat or a few days and sometimes she just disappears from around him like their link never existed. What a fucking jerkâŚâ
You mumbled the last part, furrowing your brows because it didnât feel fair sometimes, for your heart to tug when you were thinking of someone you found so⌠terribly not crush material. Not that he wasnât, but you preferred lying to yourself on the matter, enjoying the feeling of being even the littlest in control over that particular emotion that just acted on its own.
âExcept he has a type- Clarisse I swear to gods, you have to be cheating ! How else do you win a war game 5 times in a row ?â
âI donât cheat, mini-girl, itâs called talent ~â Clarisse cheered, throwing her cards in the air in victory. âAnd as we bet, loser cleans up, thank you in advance.â
As Annabeth sighed in defeat, crouching to pick up the cards that had slipped right under the table, you spoke up again, continuing your little dragon origami. âWhat do you mean he has a type ? I mean, he just seems to flirt with whatever walks his way in the slightest.â
âSheâs just jealous that he doesnât flirt with her when she walks his way.â Silena whisper-yelled at the two others, poorly hiding it behind her hand in mock confession.
âSi ? Shut up, I love you.â You did a small heart gesture your friendâs way, both apologetic and purely sarcastic.
âNo I mean, I know he kinda has someone in mind, you know ? I donât even remember when he told me thatâŚâ Except she totally remembered. Annabeth had really, really wanted it to come around naturally, but she was growing tired of the unspoken situation and the relentless talks about it.
âWhat- how come you never told me ? Annabeth, I plead you, give me your in-tells and Iâll give you my desserts for a whole month. During every meal. Just tell me what's his type.â
âBut I can get as many as I want already, technically.â
âThen Iâll get up and go get them for you. Please.â
The younger girl raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat interested by the proposition, before letting out a sigh. âFine, as you want, Iâll tell you what I know.â
ââBeth ? I love you too.â you said in your most serious tone.
The younger stayed silent for a little while, before parting her lips again. âWow. Youâre really love-bombing us today, huh ? Anyway, his typeâŚâ Annabeth tried her best to look like she was thinking back to find the memory, when she just had to look at the girl in front of her to find a perfect description. âHeâs into girls around his age, mostly, or just barely younger, someone who doesnât dislike fighting and even likes to put up a fight in general when she doesnât get what she wants, dare I say kind of a lunatic-â
âWait, what ? Heâs into spoiled princesses or..?â Clarisse said, cutting Annabeth off, but it only made the latter let out a chocked out snort.
âI mean, if you say it.â
âIs there more ?â you pressed eagerly, almost gripping the side of the table without realizing.
The younger girl looked at you with raised eyebrows, but chose not to call out the obvious. âWell⌠he likes someone slightly crazy but still pretty nice-â
âYouâre literally describing half the girls at camp.â
âOh my gods! Thatâs it, Iâm not helping you out. You can find out yourself if your crush likes you, girl.â she replied, trying to sound annoyed when she was totally amused by the situation. But for the sake of her sanity and her friendâs, she had to act. So she gathered the cards, threw them in her pocket, and bid her goodbyes. âSee you around, and no âhim talkâ, I canât take it anymore!â
You sat dumbfounded for a second, before looking to the two other girls who already stared at you, putting your hands up in surrender. âYeah, alright, alright, Iâll stopâŚâ you said, pushing yourself off the tableâs bench. âSee you later ?â
âSee ya ~â
But the next days felt even more boring than usual, nothing happening that was out of the ordinary, so you had to entertain yourself a little. Searching for something to do while finally cleaning your bunk, which you had been meaning to do for ages, an idea popped in your mind: how about investigating to find your crushâs crush ? What could be healthier ?
Youâd heard from someone who probably had heard from someone before that Luke was calmer these past few weeks, showing way less of his usual âflirty jockâ behavior, and many were suspecting a possible someone had been the cause. So you were decided to find out who the âpossible someoneâ was, because after all you had already come to terms with how your hopeless one-sided crush would never have a proper conclusion, and maybe this would be a way to finally get your closure.
So, pink ink pen and black notepad in hand, you went back outside to take a seat under a tree in the Cabin area, seeing campers walk around in the already hot morning, some going to the training grounds, a few Apollo kids busy with stocking back the inventory of the infirmary, a handful of demigods with their bathing suit under their camp-issued orange shirts and towels in a bag. Sitting comfortably on the soft grass, you wrote down everything Annabeth had told you the day prior, trying your best to remember her words.
âHis age or a little younger, likes fighting.. stubborn, a little crazy⌠a girl..â you mumbled to yourself, writing it all in the bright pink ink you adored.
âHey, Y/n! You coming to the lake with us ? Clarisse says the water is extra warm!â Chris invited, walking close to you as he got out of his cabin, a tube of sunscreen in hand. As he got closer, his eyes tried to look at the notepad before you hurriedly closed it. âWhat you doing ?â
âHey- oh uh, nothing just⌠drawing.â
âYou draw ? Since when ?â the boy continued, confused. He had known you for years now, he didnât remember seeing you draw, you just werenât really artsy.
âWell, since today, thatâs the thing. So Iâd prefer you donât see my drawings okay ? I donâtâŚyeah.â
âOh yeah, sure, I get it, totally.â Chris replied, shaking his head slowly. âDo you want to come with us to Canoe Lake though ? Clarisse and Silena are already there, and some others should be joining soon.â
The idea sounded tempting, but you were getting more and more curious as time passed, and wouldnât want to delay you little investigation, even for hot, clean, translucent lake water. âNah, man, sorry Iâll have to pass on that one. Maybe another day though ?â
âYeah, sure, have a niceâŚdrawing ~â
Chris waved before walking away, leaving you to your own mind again. You scanned over your now open notepad, trying to mentally swipe over all the people that matched the description, and writing the names down. And the names took a whole page, with a title on top of it saying âCastellan, who tf do you like (you have really generic tastes)â.
âOkay, now letâs reread it..â
âAlready dated her⌠they talked a while but it didnât last.. oh maybe- no, right, already datedâŚâ you thought to yourself, trying to ignore the fact you had so little entertainment in life that you relied on Luke to bring the events with his misleadingly numerous relationships rumors.
After a while of crossing names out, mumbling to yourself in the shadow provided by the tall tree you were hiding under, you decided just theorizing wasnât enough, you had to see the chemistry first hand to find the missing piece needed to unveil the answer.
So you got up, dusting the grass and dried weeds off your clothes before lightly walking towards the training ground. It felt like the boy spent most of his time there, surrounded by a swarm of little flies he did his best to keep around as he fought with all his might every time they were looking. One of your worst fear was probably to become one of said flies.
You had aimed right as you came around the training area, hearing loud cheering from a group of other girls sitting next to the wooden swords rack, Aphrodite and Apollo daughters, among others, hand in hand to cheer on their number one boy who made his personal crowd roar with a look its way.
You took a seat not too far, under a tree again, well aware that the 11am sun would burn your sensitive skin if you stayed under its rays too long, resting your back against the trunk and trying to examine the scene unfolding in front of your eyes. Luke was fighting with a boy from the Ares Cabin, his name was⌠Lyle ? He had been at camp for a year or so, not too bad of a fighter of course, butâŚ
The group on the side started to loudly cheer and applause as the curly haired boy tackled his opponent to the ground, the tip of his sword right under his chin in a perfect warrior stance, and even you couldnât help your gaze from softening in awe : youâd seen him fight and win so many times before, at training, capture the flag, all of those, but there was just something so mesmerizing in the energy heâd put in each combat and the determination in his eyes as heâd let his sword slash through the air.
From your own space, you tried to study all interactions, hoping to get anything thatâd help shorten your still very long list of names: who Luke shot his flirty look too, who heâd grace with a word from his lips or a smile, as fake and empty as it may be. But you were totally taken aback when, upon barely waving at the magnificent Drew Tanaka that batted her long lashes at him, the boy started walking right your way, a smirk dancing on his lips.
âY/n, hey ~â he simply started, stopping a couple feet in front of you as you still sat on the dry grass. âWhat are you doing here ? I figured youâd be at the lake with the others.â
âAnd I figured youâd be with the others.â you quickly answered, trying to close your notepad as casually and discreetly as possible.
âYet here you are, staring at me from afar. Who wouldâve thought.â
âYet here you are, speaking to me like this isnât the most words weâve ever exchanged when no friends surround us. Who wouldâve thought ~â you replied, an angelic smile playing on your her lips in response.
Lukeâs smile only stretched more. âLadies and gentleman, she fights back!â he exclaimed with a laugh, talking to his imaginary crowd before crossing his arms over his chest, flexing the muscles involuntarily like it didnât have you melting to a puddle right there in front of him. âNo but seriously, what are you doing here ? Wanna spare a little ?â
âWith you ? To lose with not a single hope to ever win ? No thanks, Iâm g-â
âWhatâs this ?â the boy cut through you sentence, crouching in a second to snatch the notepad that still sat on your crossed legs, flipping through the first pages. âWaw, your commitment to living in pink is insane, hard to believe youâre not a daughter of Aphrodite sometimes.â
You heard him mutter something you couldnât make out but brushed it off, immediately trying to catch the pages from his hands, only to fall forward on your knees as he got up and took a step back quickly. âGive me the notepad, Castellan!â
âOh wait- Thatâs your special pancake recipe? I guess the peanuts really add something huh ?â
âMy notepad!â
Definitely not wanting to chase after the child he was acting like, you simply used her telekinesis, the only control you had over your still weak magic granted by your goddess of a mother, sending the notepad flying from Lukeâs hands right into yours. You immediately ripped the list from the little book, folding it messily and putting it in your jortsâ back-pocket. âYou never act as an adult, do you ?â
âNahhh, I still have one year of being a teenager, and I sure as Hells will make the best of it.â he said, turning around going back to you in long strides with a pout on his lips.
You rolled your eyes, turning around in direction of the Cabin Area and away from him, though you could hear him try to keep up and a small smile crept up your lips. But the smile turned upside down as the boy almost ran in front of you, raising the paper high so you could see it in his hands while he read. Your eyes widened significantly, patting your back-pockets frantically and realizing he had just swiftly took the page from you, but before you could properly react, he crumpled the paper in a ball and tossed it in his back, colliding with your head.
âYou forgot the right name on that list, dumbass.â Luke started, walking away and throwing his hand up in a two-fingered peace sign. âGâluck, moonbeam ~â
After a couple seconds of standing still, dumbfounded, you roared. âCastellan! Come back here!â But the boy only let out a laugh before sprinting away, escaping your reach quickly as you were left panting, laying your back on a Cabin. âWhen I catch you, LukeâŚâ
Your cheeks were heated now, probably from the running, or thatâs what you told yourself, because you couldnât help but hear it echoing in your ears. âMoonbeam⌠What the actual fuck, Castellan?â And here you were, back to first ground, trying to convince yourself you could keep your feelings in check.
__ Her type __
The sun had been up for a while now, and Chris was doing his best to get Luke to come out of bed, but nothing would make him budge : every time the guy woke him up, the brunette would only groan, grip his pillow tighter and turn around, immediately going back to sleep.
âDude, youâre gonna make us miss breakfast.â Chris pressed, whisper-yelling to try and avoid being too harsh, but he was slowly loosing patience.
âShut up, âwanna finish my dream, go eat by yourselfâŚâ the other boy mumbled against his sheets, shuffling to get comfortable again.
But it was enough. Chris went to pick up clothes from Lukeâs stuff, before throwing them right in his face. âGet out of bed right now, or Iâm dunking a bucket of ice cold water on your body.â he deadpanned, and the counselor shot straight out of bed, putting a shirt on and nearly jumping in his pants.
âOk Iâm ready.â
The whole way to the Dining Pavilion, Luke was like a broken record on the verge of getting strangled by his best friend. Birds were chirping in the early morning, chatter noises were coming from further down the path and the sun already felt warm on his skin, but his mind could only think of one thing.
âMan, I canât believe you just cut me through the best dream everâŚâ
âYeah? And what was it about for you to be all whiny about it ?â Chris queried, starting to gain a forced curiosity from his best friendâs rambling.
âUh⌠I...donât remember?â The brunette said, trying to sound convincing and natural, looking straight in front of him, but the slightly unsure tone in his voice betrayed him.
Which caused a fit of laughter from his friend. âOh-oh, man, were you seriously having a we-â
âNo! No of course not! Why would you think that-â
âYeah, sure, then about what, huh ? Because you seem very guilty of⌠Man, tell me you didnât have⌠a romantic dream?â Chrisâ smile only grew more teasing when the other boyâs face visibly heated up, not uttering a word. He put an arm around the flustered boyâs shoulders dramatically. âWell look at that, little Luke Castellan finally growing out of his heartless era ? I thought I wouldnât live long enough to see it.â
âAwh shut up, broâŚâ he muttered, tearing his friend off him. âItâs not even that big of a dealâŚâ
âNot that big of a deal? Nah, Luke, be for real. Iâve rarely seen you as⌠disinterested before. Like- you just wave people away instead of throwing the biggest narcissistic dickhead smile their way. And I mean it in all friendship-ness.â
âYeah, of course you do, you little-â
âHey, I have you seen her today? Sheâs soâŚâ
Both Hermes sons turned their head in direction of a loud voice just a few feet behind them, seeing two guys from the Aphrodite Cabin walk closely behind them, deep in a conversation too.
âWho again ? Oh right, Silenaâs friend. That witch girl with theâŚweird aura.â
Luke frowned. âWhat the hell are they talking about?â
âYeah, gods, she just has that bod, bro⌠I mean, I wouldnât even mind dating her if it means I can get her to give me some of that magic.â one of the two guys said, ending with a proud laugh, full of himself as the other joined. âPlus, I swear, she always wears those short tops and skirts, man, sheâs basically asking for it at that point.â
Lukeâs fists tightened as he understood who the subject of the conversation was, brows furrowing at the guyâs words, yet he knew he was in no place to say anything. Because he was one of those guys who didnât give a crap about morals or feelings, one of those who knew the trouble they caused and played along.
He enjoyed it, the attention, having girls fawn over a practiced look, people naturally coming to him because he just had this kind of presence. But now, trying to distance himself from this persona of his, maybe he realized just how awful he might have sounded.
âYou weakling, questioning yourself because of a girl? Dumbass.â Luke thought to himself, tousling his hair in frustration as he finally entered the dining area. Barely a few months ago, he never wouldâve imagined being this kind of guy, the guy who tries to slow down his everyday life to become whatever a girl could like. But again, he knew in himself it wasnât just any girl, because just any girl wouldnât haunt his nights so good heâd rather sleep than do anything else.
You were⌠this whole deal to him: one of the most precious things he could wish to ever see, and still the one thing he rejected all he could. Because part of him was screaming that this was not the kind of guy he was, screaming that settling down at this point in life just wasnât for him. But over time, the idea just couldnât stop seeping into his mind, and again, you were just soâŚ
He had first met you when he came back from his failed quest, not at his best in any possible way, when you had barely started your new life, and he just saw a part of himself in you, mirroring this feeling of beingâŚlost. And maybe, just maybe, back then, he lacked the courage to go talk to you when he should have. But years went by, you barely interacted except for extended group hangouts and gatherings, and he forgot along the way. Yet for some reason, you had found a way back in his mind out of nowhere, like a magic so strong even you, daughter of Hecate, couldnât conjure. It was like meeting you all over again, that one day he saw you out late at the edge of the forest, laying in the grass and watching the moon glow. He started noticing you around more after that, maybe just paying attention more, his eyes drawn to your figure in the crowds, his ears searching for the sound of you voice as you roared and fought on the training grounds during the day.
And after months of going against himself, of denying how he knew deep down he felt, he stopped fighting the feeling. And apparently, everyone around him had noticed and couldnât stop bothering him with unpleasant questions about why, oh why, he was loosing what they called his âplayer mojoâ. But he dismissed it every time, not needing anyone in his business when even him wasnât able to take care of it.
Luke was playing with a few other guys, on their way to the training grounds while passing a ball between them all, either tossing it gently to the next or full on throwing it over their head. It was more of the second for Luke as Connor threw the ball in his direction, it landing way out of track, near the forestâs edge.
âMan, come on!â
âHey, you couldâve tried to jump and catch it.â Travis replied with a laugh, elbowing his twin playfully.
âYeah, yeah, whateverâŚâ
Luke wandered off the path, walking behind a row of bushes and crouching down to retrieve the ball that had rolled into them.
ââŚknow, heâs cute, and heâs tall and stuff, but itâs such a pain to have a crush on a boy, you get me ?â
Wait, was that⌠you ? Luke raised his head over the bushes, forgetting all about the ball for an instant as all he registered was the voice that made his ears perk up every time he heard it. âWhat- whatâs she talking about ?â He searched for the origins of the voices for a second, before his eyes fell on a small picnic table and four girls gathered around it, some playing cards and two others just talking.
âYou do know.â
âOk yeah, I do know. Itâs just- Heâs so infuriating!â
Luke shifted absentmindedly as he got curious about the conversation for some reason, words echoing in his mind. âShe likes someone ?â But as he moved his hand, his fingers slipped over the smooth surface of the ball he hadnât realized was there, stumbling forward into the leaves of the bush. At least the branches hadnât scratched his skin.
He heard the girl pause for a second, probably noticing the sudden ruffle in the bushes, and he made sure to duck down as much as possible, before realizing how stupid this couldâve looked : why the Hells would he ever try this much not to be discovered over just a simple conversation between friends of his. But deep down, his mind had his answer: he needed to know more.
â-ot even like he seems to have a type, like- bro just picks up another girl at a party, they chat or a few days and sometimes she just disappears from around him like their link never existed. What a fucking jerkâŚâ
Who was that guy? Because Luke was really starting to think that you hated your crush more than you liked him, seeing how harsh your words sounded spoken with this tone of hers. But really, what kind of jerk would that be, going around and making head spins like and leaving like it was nothing? Talk about playboy move⌠Who was it, really? No name had been spoken, barely a physical description⌠The brunette was already trying to go through all people he knew at camp that might fit the description, but-
âLuke, what the fuck are you doing ? Weâve been waiting for you forever..â
Luke snapped back to reality as Travis came up to him, his look questioning.
âOh yeah, shoot, sorry. I couldnât find the ball and then I just, tripped on my own leg. And here I am.â he replied, but his friend only looked at him more confused.
âOk, whatever. Letâs just go back okay ? Because today is the day I beat your ass!â
âYou wish you ever could ~â
They walked back to the rest of the small group, resuming the tossing with not much further question, before Luke spoke up.
âHow much do you guys know about Y/n?â
There was a short silence, Chris keeping the ball tight between his hands as they all came to a stop, and Charles spoke first the words everyone thought.
âNo fucking way. Y/n ? As in our cabinâs Y/n ? As in daughter of Hecate Y/n ?â
âUh⌠Yeah? Are there other Y/nâŚ?â Luke simply answered, not quite understanding the shock that covered his friendsâ faces.
âThere was another one a year ago. One you dated, by the way, you jock.â Chris threw back with a smirk. âBut damn, little Y/n huh ?â
Luke mentally face palmed at the first statement. âI donât know if Iâd say little considering sheâs older than you but uh- why are you soâŚâhe started, gesturing to the surprised faces in front of him, â-expressive, all of you ? I mean, I just asked how well you knew her, I think..?â
Connor slapped his brotherâs shoulder with a grin on his face and a mischievous look in his eyes. âTold ya it wasnât an Aphrodite girl, bro!â
âYeah, yeah, so much fuss over so littleâŚâ the other twin groaned.
As the other guys exchanged knowing looks and laughs, Luke was just standing there, confused about the whole situation. âWhat is happening, exactly ? Iâm starting to feel a little excluded here.â
It was Charles that spoke up again. âWe just canât believe you finally admitted who youâve been liking so much that you got off the market, bro.â The boy came closer, putting his arm over Lukeâs shoulders and squeezing his arm playfully. âSo, her, huh ? I mean, yeah i get it, sheâs kinda-â
âDonât finish that sentence or youâll have to build yourself a new tongue.â
The others erupted in laughter at Lukeâs threat, patting him on the back as the brunette held his face down in embarrassment, because it probably was the first time his friends could tease him on the subject, and they were catching up on all the missed opportunities.
âWould you look at that? Luke so into a girl he looses his mojo, who wouldâve thought ~â
âYou know what, guys ? He even stays in bed an skips breakfast just so he can dream about her for lo-â Chris started, his friend quickly shutting him up with a hand over his mouth, a reaction that only caused more laughter.
âOh shut the fuck up!â
They were almost to the training grounds, the teasing had died down just a little bit, when Luke asked his first question again, this time the others only throwing amused looks before answering.
âHmmm I donât really talk to her much, yâknow? I just see her around from time to time. Isnât she lesbian though ?â
âWha- No!â the brunette replied instantly, somewhat offended. âIâm not that stupid, thank you. At least from what I heard, sheâs into a boy, so-â
âOh so sheâs into someone already ? Who ?â Chris chimed in from behind his back.
âI donât know, I didnât heard any name, just some tall dude that sounds like a total jerkâŚâ Luke mumbled.
âSounds like you to me.â
âGet back here you little-â He said, turning around to try and catch a running Chris shielding himself behind Connor. âI donât even know why Iâm asking you all, itâs not like you have anything interesting to say anyway.. Letâs just get to practice, Iâm getting frustrated with all of this.â Luke continued in mock bitterness, sending them an amused smile.
Travis bolted in direction of the training grounds just ahead of them. âRace ya!â
âMorning, bro.â Chris greeted with a quick fist bump. âYou doing something this morning?â
âHmmm I got a practice this morning, and a short teaching session for some newcomers. Why ?â his friend answered, putting on his orange t-shirt.
âAh sheep, I was gonna tell you some of us were planning on spending the morning at the lake, they say the water is particularly warm this morning. And I thought you couldâve asked you-know-who to come too, toâŚyâknow...â
âHa ha, youâre so fun Chris, but Iâm not gonna ditch helpless kids, sorry. Also, since when do actually you censor yourself ?â Luke asked, weirded out by this change in character as he put his shoes back on.
âWell, I too am on a path to redemption, at my own level.â
The brunette let out a scoff. âYeah, sure. See ya.â
Luke spent the next few hours on the training grounds, slashing at practice dummies in wood and straw with his dominant arm, trying to reproduce the same moves with the other and building his technique like he did almost everyday. He found a sparring partner in a younger boy, Lyle, son of Ares and at camp since barely a year but whoâs blood made him a worthy opponent. Maybe not worthy enough to take Lukeâs title as campâs best swordsman nonetheless.
The Ares boy relied on brute force against the other fighter, who knew exactly how to use it against him, nimbly sliding in his back an hitting the back of his knees when Lyle lunged forward, too late to reach Luke. Falling on his knees, the brunette was quick to go back in front of him, pointing the tip of his sword right under his chin, declaring his undisputed victory while he could hear a loud clamor of shouts and applause roaring in his back. Luke extended his hand for his partner to take, offering to help him up.
âOh shoot, whoâs this ?â Lyle said in a hushed tone, speaking to Luke while he looked behind his shoulder. The curly haired boy followed his gaze, confused, before his eyes fell on your figure. You were under a tree, looking away from him and towards the small crowd on his side, the light filtering through the leaves and hitting your face like a perfect halo, enhancing your features in a way that looked surreal. âSheâs ho-â
Luke instantly let go of his hand, letting the Ares boy fall back to the ground and looking down at him while he groaned in discomfort. âYeah no, forget about her, pretty boy. Sheâs way out of your league.â
The blond scoffed at the advice. âAnd what, sheâs in yours ?â
âYeah, nice joke, Lyle, like I could ever try to compare..â
Turning his back on Lyle, Luke went towards the small wooden bench, going to dab himself with a small towel and drinking down almost all the content in his water bottle. Resting for just a second, head hanging low and elbows on his thighs, he raised his gaze just enough so he could see you, still under that tree that shielded your skin from the angry rays of the summer sun, writing away on a small black notepad. What could you be doing, ther-
âHey ~â
Luke snapped his head up, seeing Drew standing just a few feet from him, fluttering her long lashes his way. He thought he could decipher her intentions, but if it wouldâve worked just a few weeks ago, now he didnât have any interest in whatever she could try to talk him into. So he lifted himself off the bench, barely sparring her a glance.
âHey.â he dryly said, paired with a small wave, before starting to walk towards the tree, and more precisely the girl seated right under it. This time when he spoke up, his tone was warm, light-hearted when he said,
âY/n, hey ~â
Luke almost jogged the last few meters, wanting to close the distance between you two quickly, before stopping a few feet away. After somewhat coming to terms with what he felt, it was almost a little weird to be close to you like that : the small fluttering in his stomach, his heart rate quickening, the warmth that was spreading through his body and plastered a smile on his face ; they were all signs so foreign to him.
âWhat are you doing here ? I figured youâd be at the lake with the others.â
âAnd I figured youâd be with the others.â you replied quickly, and from the corner of his eyes, he could see you close the notepad discreetly, your fingers seeming somewhat trembling over the cover as you nervously played with a pink pen with the other hand.
âYet here you are, staring at me from afar. Who wouldâve thought.â Lukeâs eyes slightly narrowed as he joked back, subtly testing the waters to see how willing you might be to keep the conversation going, given how rarely you talked in settings like this, just the two of you.
âYet here you are, speaking to me like this isnât the most words weâve ever exchanged when no friends surround us. Who wouldâve thought ~â you said, and your smile, as sarcastic as it mustâve been, had Lukeâs legs feel like jello all of a sudden.
His grin only widened, corners flipped up and almost displaying his pearly teeth before exclaiming, âLadies and gentleman, she fights back!â, a laugh accompanying his statement as he threw his arms in the air theatrically. A little chuckle escaped your lips, one he could only choose to take as an invitation to more conversation, and he crossed his arms over his chest. âNo but seriously, what are you doing here ? Wanna spare a little ?â he continued with a more cheeky expression.
You cocked an eyebrow up, as if you were the utmost offended by the proposition, both pointer fingers coming to point at the boy in front of you. âWith you ? To lose with not a single hope to ever win ? No thanks, Iâm g-â
Luke took advantage of your little loss of focus to crouch down to your level and snatch the notepad from your lap, your face instantly displaying shock and.. a little look of mortification. âWhatâs this ? Waw, your commitment to living in pink is insane, hard to believe youâre not a daughter of Aphrodite sometimes.â he added with a little laugh as he skipped through the pages, seeing the pink scribbles and doodles adorning the pages in multiple shades. âOne of the things that make me believe you are..â he mumbled, his eyes widening a little when he realized heâd said it out-loud, but you probably hadnât heard or understood it as you didnât bring it up.
He stood up and took a step back just before you lunged his way to reach for your belonging. âGive me the notepad, Castellan!â
But he was having too much fun, teasing you a way he wouldnât usually try to, flipping through the pages while walking away and seeing you glowering at him in a mix of exasperation and indignation. But it was his time to be surprised when the notepad flew from his hands back to yours. âRight, Hecateâs kid, always so full of surprisesâŚâ
âYou never act as an adult, do you ?â you asked rhetorically and Luke turned around, walking back to you with a pouty smile dancing on his mouth, seeing you slip a small piece of paper in the back-pocket of your bottoms.
âNahhh, I still have one year of being a teenager, and I sure as Hells will make the best of it.â Luke only replied with a proud expression, faking a small bow and he couldnât hold in a chuckle as he saw you roll your eyes. But as you started walking away, he caught up to you discreetly, nimbly getting the paper sticking out of your back-pocket before he rushed past you, starting to read the page while holding it up in the air for you to see.
But his mischievous smile faltered slightly when he read the content of the paper : âCastellan, who tf do you like (you have really generic tastes)â.
First pang to the heart, he did not have generic taste, unless you considered a witty, sweet, hard-headed, mesmerizing and all-roundly skilled demi-goddess to be generic. Second pang to the heart, all the names listed down, some crossed out, some circled to stand out⌠was this how you saw him ? They were all girls about his age, the removed names the ones of some he had a fling of some sort with, the names standing out being those of girls like Piper or Drew, the ones that caught most eyes at camp. But not his, not anymore, and he couldnât see the one right name anywhere on the paper.
So he crumpled the small sheet, tossing it behind him and almost bursting out in laughter as he heard a small âouchâ behind him, probably hitting you right in the face. âYou forgot the right name on that list, dumbass.â Luke started, doing a peace gesture above his shoulder. âGâluck, moonbeam ~â he only said, the nickname rolling off his tongue like heâd used it all his life.
And as he heard you yell behind him, the boy quickly turned towards the cabins, hiding on the side of the Athena one. He finally let out the nervous laugh he was holding, relaxing against the cabin and he couldnât stop himself from laughing at the unlikeliness of the situation. He, Luke Castellan, liked a girl he didnât even talk to on a daily basis, with whom he was barely friends if not for their mutual ones, and that probably considered him the most obnoxious jock she knew. And just a few weeks ago, you wouldâve been right to see him as such, but now that he was trying to redeem himself, a little for himself and a little for you too, he was catching you almost investigating his nonexistent love life, while putting aside any possibility of you being in the equation. How was he supposed to interpret all that ? The Godsâ design was indeed one you couldnât predict.
âWhat are you laughing at like a manic ?â
The boy almost jumped in surprise, Annabeth appearing just like magic next to him, before letting out a loud exhale. âWow, hello to you tooâŚâ he replied, dismissive.
But she appeared totally unfazed, crossing her arms over her chest in a knowing stance, like she could read all over his face what was going on in his mind when even him had a hard time deciphering his thoughts. âWhatâs so funny I can hear you laughing from inside the cabin? I swear it better be worth stopping me from my reading.â
âI- nothingâs funny, Iâm just.. trying out laugh therapy, you know ? Stress reliever and allâŚâ His words and his wonky smile only earned him a raised eyebrow from the younger. âOkay, what? What do you want me to say ?â
âThe truth, thatâd actually be pretty great.â
âThe truth ? Well the truth is⌠I donât even know. I told you about⌠you-know-who, right ?â
âExtensively, yeah.â
Luke marked a pause before continuing, throwing Annabeth an annoyed glare she chose to ignore, for his sake. âWell, I donât know how and why, but apparently she heard that I⌠was interested in someone..â
âUnderstatement of the century.â
He did a short pause again, marking his growing frustration known. âAnyways, the problem is that now sheâs literally playing Sherlock Holmes on me, Annabeth. And sheâs gonna find out at some point, you know how smart she is. And then Ill be the idiot who, out of all his very broad possibilities, likes a girl who doesnât like him back.â As he spoke, he took his head in his hands, massaging his temples: the mere idea of this situation happening was giving him a headache, and for too much reasons.
âOk, so, thatâs very narcissistic-â
âOr does she like me? Is that why sheâs writing a list? Maybe thatâs the reason, yeah.. Maybe sheâs trying to figure out if she has a shot.. But then why would she talk about this other guy, it doesnât make sense-â Head low, deep in thought, Luke saw from the corner of his eyes the girlâs foot tapping on the ground, sign of her growing boredom, and he stopped his unintelligible muttering. âAnnabeth do you know anything? I mean, you guys are like, really close friends, right? She talks to you about those stuff, you must know something.â
The girl scoffed, throwing her long braids over her shoulder with sass before looking up straight into Lukeâs eyes, challenging him with a single gaze. âI know that you better shut up before I put my cap on and literally disappear from this conversation.â she started, getting her blue cap from her jeansâ back-pocket, dangling it around to show him how serious her threat was. âI also know that even if I knew something, I wouldnât tell you, because seeing you struggling and at a girlâs beck and call is the gift the gods offered me, today.â
The curly head opened his mouth in disbelief, closing it as he tried to find his words. âTraitor.â
She exaggerated his reaction, openly making fun of Luke, hand hovering over her mouth in mock shock. âBut but but- Desperate puppy.â she then deadpanned.
âYouâre disloyal.â
âYouâre stupid. Bye ~â The girl quickly waved at him, the biggest smile etched on her face, before popping her cap on and disappearing into thin air.
__ His type __
For someone who craved a day just a tad bit more eventful than the usual, now that it unfolded in front of your eyes, you just found it weird, because things just feltâŚoff.
Maybe it was the strong heat that waved over camp since the day before, but you were finding yourself almost unable to sleep, tossing and turning, your thoughts eventually wandering to the same question: who does Luke like? And you didnât understand why you were suddenly so obsessed with it: were you that bored of your everyday life? or⌠No, you were over that silly crush, you had come to terms with how itâd inevitably end, so you were obviously just bored and intrigued. But as you thought about it a couple nights in a row, you swore there was a little voice screaming at your inner monologue, something you couldnât quite decipher.
Maybe it was the heat getting to your head, but Annabeth seemed⌠on edge? Or maybe more mischievous than usual? She whispered with Percy when you passed by, which you clearly noticed after it happened ârandomlyâ more than half a dozen times, but you couldnât make out any word, and it only made you more curious: why was she throwing you those side glances? What was happening?
Maybe it was your eyes playing tricks, but you couldâve sworn Luke was avoiding you. But the weirdest was that he was also completely not. Because, would it be out on the training grounds or inside the forever packed Hermes Cabin, you sometimes caught him speaking with your siblings, and by the time you got close enough to try and eavesdrop, heâd catch sight of you and flee in a hurry, and you could barely hear a faint âDonât tellâ before he was gone. Sometimes, youâd go to your half-brother, whoâd just answer with a small shrug and an âI donât know, he just had a random questionâ before throwing you a confused look and dismissing the subject. And at the same time, Luke talked to you way more than usual, it felt completely out of the ordinary: if he was not in an avoidance mood, heâd at least say hi when he was passing by, sometimes even going out of his path to just greet you, asking how you were and biding you a good day before going back to his business.
The problem was now the raging conflict inside of you, parts of yourself knowing it was just friendly, because what else could it be, and parts of yourself gaining too much hope from it, like the situation had changed and your feelings could freely full-power-resurface. But as much as you could usually be in control of your emotions, now the chaos tended to peak out, and youâd have to try not to blush like a 13 years old. Like right now.
You were simply sat at a table outside in a pretty empty area near some strawberry fields, tapping the blunt side of your pink pen against your lower lip, slightly nipping at the cap or drumming your fingers on the length of it, eyes trained to the new list in your notepad âthe old one to crumpled and written on to use. But as you racked your brain for something else, you just couldnât find it, anybody else who could make the list, you didnât remember who you couldâve forgotten-
âMoonbeam, hey!â
You snapped your head up as you heard someone yell the unique nickname from further, coming from the cabins area towards you, and saw a head of messy curls waving their arm high up before lightly jogging your way. And as much as the more rational part of you tried to scream inside your head, you couldnât contain a light blush : the faint idea of the boy you hopelessly liked ever running to you, a beaming smile adorning his face, was enough to make your face burn, so to see your daydreaming fantasy happening- you felt lightheaded, weak in the knees, like melting in a puddle.
__ Her type __
The last few days had been unusual for Luke, but not in the worst of ways, he just made everything he could to get used to it, because, as different from his usual self as it was, he felt like he was just in sync with himself and what he actually wanted.
But the problem was that he quickly realized that what he wanted, others wanted too.
âHey, Cam, wait up!â
Luke jogged to the boy, after just finishing a training session he lead. He wasnât specifically close to him, having just talked here and there since they were in the same cabin, but he knew him to be a son of Hecate, one of your half-brothers.
âOh, hi Luke, how you doing ?â Cameron answered after turning around towards the voice, quickly fist bumping the other guy when he came closer.
âGood, Iâm fine. I just had a quick question-â
âSure, shoot.â
âIâŚâ Luke was having a little trouble finding the right sentence, not wanting to appear as completely soft as he had gone, trying to make his intentions a little discreet, but struggling to find words. âHow well would you say you know Y/n ?â Letâs just say he mentally face palmed at his words.
Cameron stifled a laugh. âDude weâre like barely over half a dozen siblings, I would say I know her pretty well. Why ?â He marked a small pause, before saying, âYou know your ears are like, bright red, right ?â
âI- no. Shut up.â
âMmmmh, youâre very convincing.â
âPlease donât tell anyone about anything you might think you know from this conversation. Which wonât be true.â It only earned him a loud fit of laughter from the boy in front of him. âOkay whatever- Do you happen to know.. if she might like someone ? Or maybe her type ? Anything about⌠this field of information ?â
Cameron tried to contain his amusement, seeing the usual confident and smug Luke being so⌠caught up in his feels. âNah man, sorry, I donât know anything. I mean, I did overhear her talking about some dude but it was like, 3 months ago, easy, so not sure.â
âReally? Nothing else you might have he-â Luke cut himself short when catching the annoyed cocked brow facing him. âYeah, okay, thanks..â
âNo problem, but man, between us: I donât think youâre the only one after her, might wanna hurry.â Cameron replied with a knowing smirk, before waving to someone behind him. âSheâs coming this way, just saying.â
âWha- who- Shit.â The boy slightly panicked, hearing your voice greeting them both, and his legs grew a mind of their own, fleeing the scene before you reached his side and turning a corner to go back to his cabin.
But as he took his post-training shower, Luke couldnât help but wonder: what should he do? Did he even have a chance? Because, letâs face it, you two had never been more than acquaintances for years, meeting here and there by coincidence because you were following friends, and the idea that you mightâve grown the same feelings in this context was an unreachable fantasy. One he shouldnât bring himself to hope for, even more now that he realized he might not be the only one wanting to be the one in your thoughts like you wee in his.
And yetâŚ
There was still this spark inside of him, one that made him want to bang his head on the wall of the small shower cubicle from how stupid it made him feel. Because he knew, deep inside, he hoped that he wasnât the only one who had taken notice so late.
So itâs in the shower, under the cold running water, that he decided that there would be no more mourning what wouldnât happen, but rather steps in the good direction, your direction: heâd do anything if it could mean a reciprocated spark.
And Luke was a man of his words. To a certain extent. If he quickly left, tail between his legs, each time you approached close enough to hear him talking about you, asking away to anyone you knew who had their chances with you, he stood his own ground when he was the one to instigate the interaction. He greeted you each chance heâd get, going out of his way to have the most trivial conversation about whatever book you were reading he didnât know a thing about, wishing you a good day out of nowhere or removing a speck of pollen flying in your hair while you talked to him. And his friends teasing him about it was worth any word that would pass your lips for him to hear or the blush that dusted your cheeks when his fingers brushed your skin in the lightest touch.
The brunette parted from his friends, excusing himself for what he had called âneeded personal time after being too much with you jocksâ, and they had inevitably cooed at him, telling him to spend a delightful afternoon in a certain girlâs company. And if his eyes rolled to Mount Olympus back, he couldnât think of a clever comeback as they were totally right.
He quickly spotted you, sitting not far from the strawberry fields, the smell wafting to his nose â and yet he couldnât help but compare it to the smell of your hair that filled him every time he passed you by â, and being who he was, he couldnât help but yell your name from across the clearing, waving his arm in the air as he ran your way.
âMoonbeam, hey!â
Luke couldnât help the smile that crept up his face as he came closer, seeing a fresh piece of paper covered in pink ink in front of you just before you turned the notepad facing down.
âWell, youâre that much interested, huh ?â
âI- No, Iâm just bored, and-â
âAnd Iâm so interesting you couldnât help but do a deep dive on me ?â Luke cut you off, raising an eyebrow in the most smug demeanor you could witness, a smirk tugging at his lips;
You sighed deeply, shaking your head. âAnd I had so little idea of what to do that I had to take the last thing left in my mind.â
âSo I'm on your mind ?â
He knew it was silly, he knew it wasnât based on anything real, but the flicker of hope was glimmering in his chest. Flirting was second nature to him and, as arrogant as it may sound, he usually didnât have much response on the other side other than fluttering eyelashes and shy smiles, so he enjoyed this little game. Like a cat and mouse game where you were both battling to be the cat.
âDo you know youâre actually insufferable? Just making sure youâre aware.â
âI think the word you were looking for is charming but itâs alright, weâre all dyslexic around here.â
âThatâs not even- whatever.â And right after you rolled your eyes in annoyance, but Luke saw a sparkle light up in them the same instant. âBy the way, call me Sherlock, I found it.â
The boyâs eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but he couldnât help but throw in a joke to keep the light mood going. âAre you high on strawberry leaves ? What do you mean ?â
âI- unbelievable.â you huffed out, cheeks dusting in pink from confusion-fueled embarrassment. âI mean I know who âthe fuckâ you like.â you stated, mimicking quotes with your fingers to reference the title of your list. And boy did his face fall.
__
You didnât miss the flicker of annoyance that crossed his face, startling you a little: that little twitch on his face with the slight tilt of his head, an expression youâd always found pretty amusing and almost endearing, now seeing it directed your way⌠it was intimidating. What couldâve caused him to react like that ?
Little did you know, on his end, it wasnât annoyance, only masked apprehension, fearful apprehension.
Your guts started to twist before Lukeâs face relaxed again, and you took in a deep breath.
âOkay, shoot then, I guessâŚâ the boy replied, awkwardly scratching his nape, and you couldnât help but notice the way his eyes seemed to search yours.
You let a moment of silence pass between the two of you, before scrunching your nose with a smile. âNah, I lied. But Iâm close though, Iâm sure!â
There was an awkward instant where he didnât answer anything, and you thought your enthusiasm mightâve weirded him out, but his face broke in laughter the next, nearly bending in half as you stood there, unable to tell if you should laugh with him or be utterly mortified.
âWow, Moonbeam⌠Youâre another breed alright!â he exclaimed, simply unable to stop laughing at your reaction, and you swore you could see a glint of something more behind his fluttering lashes. âYou really wanna know, donât youâŚâ
âWell I- I told you, Iâm bored and easily entertainedâŚâ you replied, red growing on your cheeks as you crossed your arms over your chest in defense.
âThatâs really contradictory, moonbeam.â
âI- shut up, Iâm tired.â Again with that stupid nickname, so stupid it sent butterflies flying in your stomach âstupid blood capillaries.
Luke only rolled his eyes in response, getting closer to you and going around the table to take a seat in front of you, swiftly snatching the notepad from your loosened grasp.
âHey-â
âWow, youâre really off. Guess youâre not as close as you think.â Luke couldnât help but tease, and you threw him a glare, a mix of frustration, indignation and⌠maybe even a tinge of desperation. Curiosity mightâve gotten the best of you by now.
âYeah well, who wouldâve thought campâs perfect jock would actually be hard to understandâŚâ You rolled your eyes, tearing your gaze from his figure as you gave up on trying to conceal the piece of paper.
âWow, getting the claws out now, are we ?â The boy only spurred you on, loving the feeling of warmth pooling in him each time you looked at him with those fiery eyes he couldnât believe heâd noticed so late.
âYouâre a frustrating person, thatâs all⌠But how am I wrong though ? Iâm fully convinced Iâve thought of nearly everyoneâŚâ Your eyebrows furrowed as you stared down at you fidgeting fingers on the table, trying to grasp at anything you couldâve missed.
You couldnât see it, but the way Lukeâs gaze softened was noticeable for anyone that mightâve been around, his eyes almost screaming whatever was going through his head, and Annabeth wouldâve smacked the back of his head if sheâd seen him, from how much he annoyed her yet said nothing when he was so obvious.
âI mean, itâs impossible I havenât put your crushâs name on the list at one point, sheâs- Or are you bi?â
If he had been drinking, Luke wouldâve spat his drink immediately, coughing up a laugh at your question, unable to hide the disbelief that displayed on his face. âW-what ?â
âYeah nah okay⌠Or worse, are you into⌠a minor?â
His laugh only doubled at your statement, properly unable to hold it in as he saw the faux horrified look grow on your face. âDear gods no! You might not believe me when I say it, but I do still have some morals.â It took him some time to calm down, a tear threatening to fall from his eye from the amusement you brought along with your bluntness. He stopped you before you could say anything more scandalous. âYou know what, just hand me your pen.â
You gave him the pen promptly, your hand reacting before you registered the question and you looked at Luke, confused as to what heâd- no way.
On the other side of the table. Lukeâs head was ringing, convinced he maybe shouldâve thought twice before offering to solve her investigation, his hand shaking as he took the pen between his fingers, his heart hammering in his chest as he tried to think of how he could get out of the situation. But maybe it was just time, he just had to come clean, to stop the faint tugging in his chest when he saw you laugh with someone else; to stop the longing he felt when he looked at the moon out the window on sleepless nights, wondering if you were looking too when you werenât sleeping in your bunk; to stop wondering if youâd ever catch the yearning in his eyes every time he talked to you, never wanting those moments to end.
And maybe to shut up his friends too, just maybe.
He had barely started scribbling before you laughed through the heavy tension as he let out a small âFuck, forgot you actually write in pinkâ. But your laugh died sharply when he handed you the thin sheet of paper, your hands clutching it like it was your only thread of sanity left, eyes not leaving what heâd wrote. And heâd wrote your name.
âYouâre kidding, right ?â you asked in a low whisper, eyes not straying from his messy handwriting decorating the bottom of the piece of paper, your brain almost shutting down on the spot as you read each letter, over and over again.
Luke took a deep breath in, trying to calm the pounding of the blood at his temples, his leg nervously stimming under the table. Why was it suddenly so hard to say words that used to naturally roll of his tongue like a practiced poem ? Why was it making him feel like you held his heart in your hand and could crush it with a few words ?
He let the breath out.
âDo you want to go out with me, moonbeam ?â
His heart rate picked up again âif it was even possible for a heart to beat so quicklyâ as he saw your expression only grow, eyes widening significantly, your lips parted without a single words going past them, looking so still he even doubt you were breathing. And heâd be lying if he said it wasnât panicking him. Him, the one with not a single record of rejection, now fearing for his heart.
âI mean, I donât want to force anything on you, of course, but⌠I need you to know, I now Iâve seemed like the most pretentious player, Iâve recently grown a little too aware of it. But I swear, Iâm not like that anymore, or at least itâs not what I feel like I am anymore: Iâm not here to toy with you, Iâm not saying all this just to add a name to this, by the way, ridiculously long list of crossed out names.â Luke said it all in one breath, begrudgingly pointing at the list you clutched so hard it started to wrinkle at the edges, now feeling uneasy as he looked at it.
But what he found the weirdest in this instant was how he wasnât feeling uneasy when sharing all of this, accepting his previous behavior and how it couldâve ever mislead you, trying to convince not with calculated sweet words but with honest thoughts, for once.
You finally look back at him, staring right in his brown eyes, brows furrowed like you were trying to gauge the trust you could put in his words, and the boy stopped you before you could speak up.
âNo, please just- let me finish, Iâll be quick. I promise you, that guy you like? I can be better than him, better for you and better to you than heâd ever be, judging by how you des-â
âWhat guy ?â you asked, your brows only furrowing further in confusion.
Luke stopped in his tracks, seemingly taken aback by your question, while you looked at him expectantly, head tilted to the side. âWell, the guy you talked about with umâŚâ he started hesitantly, not fond of admitting he had indeed been eavesdropping on you, ââŚSilena, Clarisse and Annabeth. The..tall jerk?â
âYOU SPIED ON M-â You cut yourself off, closing your eyes and breathing deeply, before shaking your head dismissively, as Luke looked down at his lap, a little guilty. âYou know what, weâll talk about that later. Luke ?â His head shot up to meet your gaze as he heard his name roll off your tongue, humming in response. âYouâre the guy.â
Lukeâs pupils blew wide at your deadpan, brows raised up and head brought forward like he couldnât believe his ears. He stayed like that for a lingering second, processing every recollection he had of his eavesdropping to make sense of it all. He mouthed a âwhatâ, before apparently snapping out of it. âIâm the tall jerk ?â
âYouâre the tall jerk.â You tried to keep your voice steady, the realization of your own confession slowly seeping in your mind.
Chris was right, that little-
âSo you like me ? Thereâs no other guy ?â he pressed, leaning over the table, all apprehension disappearing from his eyes to make room for the blooming sparks of hope, smile stretching over his lips he didnât even bother to conceal.
Your could now clearly feel your cheeks burning up, the red hue probably visible over your complexion, eyes darting everywhere but the curly haired boy in front of you as you felt at loss for words. âThereâs no- I mean, itâs.. I-â
You couldnât help your eyes from trailing to his lips as you caught a movement, the tip of his tongue barely darting out and leaving his lips parted in a smile, looking soâŚ
You had to break away as Luke swiftly moved off the table, unable to stop himself from smiling profusely after heâd caught your evident gaze, walking around to sit on the edge, right next to you.
He crossed his arms over his chest, looking down at you, before finally speaking up.
âOk, scratch what I said earlier, that guy you talked about seems absolutely amazing. Real boyfriend material. I could never even dream of being like him. You clearly should date him, I get it.â Your eyes rolled as you slowly understood his little speech, blush still dusting your cheeks as your smile started to match his, lightly biting your lip to hold it. âBut oh, wait, what did you say? Is it me?â he asked, feigning innocence and pointing at himself. âIâm the guy? Wow, incredible, so convenient.â
But you could only smile further at his antics, feeling any fear, anticipation, hidden pent up frustration, slowly leaving your body as the boyâs own joy radiated off his, contagious energy that seeped into you.
âSo, would you consider going out with a tall jerk ?â
You couldnât hold a little chuckle. âYouâre a dork.â
âYeah well, would you consider going out with a dorky tall jerk, then ?â
âI donât just consider, Luke,â you started, a glint of playfulness in your eyes as they bore in his, âI want to.â
You stood up at the same time as one of your hands shot up to grab the collar of his orange shirt, bringing him low enough to press your lips to his in a kiss, surprising, confusing, but oh so cathartic. And for the short moment it lasted, Lukeâs hands opening and closing just short of touching you as he didnât even know what to do anymore, to the both of you it felt like perfection.
But the passion simmered down as you pulled away. âYou swear youâre not gonna play me?â you mumbled, both hands gripping the front of his shirt as the bliss started to wear off and you realized how stupid you had to be to fully believe him, given the history.
âI-â Luke let out a deep sigh, hand finally moving to push a stray strand of hair out of your face, and you shivered at the contact of his warm fingers. âIâm gonna do everything I can think off to prove t to you. Iâm on a maturing path, if thatâs actually an expression.â And his smile grew back as he heard you stifle a laugh, finally looking up at him.
âCan I ask you something then ?â
âAnything.â And boy did he mean it. He probably was even ready to loose a sparring match against you if it would make you beam like you did just moments before.
âWhy were you talking to all my siblings ? Everytime I saw you, you just⌠ran away.â
The boy let out an awkward laugh, scratching his nape as he looked away from your eyes. âWell I⌠I was asking around if they knew who you might be interested in⌠Didnât exactly want you to find out.â
You looked at him in disbelief, happily surprised that heâd actually been through almost the same thing as you. âWow, dedication, I could never. I only asked Annabeth-â
âAnnabeth knew ? And she didnât tell me ? I feel sooo betrayed!â Luke exclaimed with a laugh, head falling back with his eyes closed as he went through everything that couldâve been simpler had she told him from the start.
âWait, she knew about you ?â Your face displayed a matching shock now. âAnd you feel betrayed ? Wow, she looked at me right in the eyes and told me she barely knew your type, hence the list.â
âShe really is the evil genius she thinks she is, huh ?â he asked rhetorically, his arms finding your hips and pulling you closer to him.
âMyeah, gonna have a talk with you now, little girlâŚâ you replied, resting your head comfortably against his shoulder, the feeling almost too natural to feel new, and you could only smile absentmindedly as your own arms hugged him back.
Did i feel fully comfortable writing boys down-talking a girl for that two sentence apparition? No. But for the sake of the storyyyy :D
Future partner if you have to nickname me, let it be moonbeam. Please. And if you could cosplay nightwing on a weekly basis itâs an added bonus but hey, I wonât ask too much <3
Hope you enjoyed this heheh

UD headcanons no one asked for!
my motivation has gone to get the milk and has not come back since, SO HEY! who wants to hear some random headcanons that have been microwaving in my head for the past year???
this is going to be a long one...
stuff under the cut vvv
Lou is the kinda guy to only pack nice looking outfits on a holiday. Do they suit the occasion? Probably not. But he wants to look the part every where he goes, even if he's wearing a suit during the middle of summer
He would also be the guy to complain that it's too cold, even though he was told to pack up layers of clothes for a hiking trip, and didn't. But when someone tries to give him a coat, he says "I don't need that, I'm fine!" even though he looks like he's going to freeze over.
He takes the coat not too soon after
On the other hand, either Nolan or Ox would overpack for a trip. Ox because he is basically the fatherly figure of the group, and wants to make sure that everyone has enough food, water, and layers of clothing for the trip. Oh, and he brings a first aid kit as well. Nolan however does it because "What if I didn't pack enough?? What if I need this oddly specific thing??" and packs more than he needs to
Speaking of Ox, he always came off as a character who really enjoys camping and exploring, ya know? He seems like the leader of a scout group who loves to sing campfire songs and tell spooky stories that no one believes. (him and Rhidian would get along well)
LITERALLY NO ONE TALKS ABOUT LUCKYBAT AND OX'S DYNAMIC AND IT'S DRIVING ME WILD. Hello?? A withdrawn and somewhat jaded mayor who is protective of those he's close to with his intelligent, caring and concerned assistant?? That sounds interesting!
I'm sure LuckyBat knows more than anyone else (besides Lou) of what Ox went through. Perhaps he didn't know about the Institute, but he knew ox went through some stuff outside Uglyville. Perhaps that's why he's so cautious to go into the pipe.
(And perhaps the reason why he decides to go to learn new stuff was for the sake of finding out what Ox doesn't speak about?)
Back to the Prettydolls, I always found it interesting that Nolan was able to run the gauntlet despite being imperfect, although Moxy and Mandy, two other imperfect dolls, were thrown into recycling. Why was Nolan allowed to run the gauntlet, huh Lou? Didn't you say that any unideal looking doll goes to recycling, Lou????
Personally, I like to think that Lou allowed Nolan to do training and was like "Haha watch this idiot fail". And turns out Nolan was really good at it (flashbacks to Nolan being buff in the novel). Lou is flabbergasted.
...Either that or Lou just allowed him to run the gauntlet to watch him fail immediately because "Haha funny" and also "Haha imperfects can't win. Suck it loser~"
Kitty is jealous of Mandy's makeup skills, and often copies her because of it, too embarrassed to ask for advice because she needs to learn on her own. After Lou gets overthrown, Kitty and Mandy help each other out on their makeup and hair
Tuesday is the girl to think that "Yeah I'm smiling, but inside I'm crying" is the deepest thing to ever exist. Kitty bullies her for it.
Also, Tuesday cry-sings "I'm a mess" by Bebe Rexha after Lou denied her 1244th love confession. She will try again tomorrow
Because Kelly Clarkson was pop-rock for a while, I like to imagine that Moxy had a rock-n-roll rebellious phase, and still has a few characteristics from that era of her life
During the scene where Lou is going up the gauntlet lift with everyone else, he is constantly moving about. Winking at Mandy to fake confidence, adjusting his suit...etc. I always saw this has him being nervous, because you know, he's about to expose himself for being a prototype after this gauntlet stuff is over. So I like to think that he fiddles around with his suit when he's nervous. Mainly readjusting the sleeves, tightening his ascot tie and flicking out his collar. Also pulling out loose threads, if there is any.
I thought for the longest time that when Lou's hair got slightly messier, it showed him being more genuine. There is one god damn strand on his fringe that goes from being in place to hanging out, and I thought it showed him losing his façade, very very subtly.
This might be a hot take but I always saw Loundy (Mandy/Lou) as being friends/lovers to enemies. Think about it: Lou and Mandy seemed to have some sort of connection, Mandy (in my opinion) basically being Lou's assistant, similar to the spy girls. She began thinking he was perfect, and they formed a (seemingly) close bond. But over time, as Lou's desperation for perfection increased, her opinion of him soured, and she realised he isn't as perfect as she thought. She kept the negative thoughts to herself, though. Who would believe her? The perfect doll with the flawless looks and endless talents, topped off with a charming personality... Why would he be unhinged? How would he be unhinged?
You know that line Mandy says to Lou at the gauntlet? "You know, Lou.. When I first got here, I thought you were perfect. I couldn't find a single thing wrong with you. But, I can see a lot better now." perhaps that wasn't just talking about the events of the film, as it probably implies. Maybe she knows how terrible he's been for a long time...
That's all I got for now, I may doodle some of these if motivation comes back, who knows..

Saturday, December 21st, 2024.
What states have you been to in the past year? I haven't left the state. I haven't even gone more than an hour outside of town. Just trips to the Mountain Park.
Have you ever sleepwalked? I haven't. The thought is actually pretty terrifying, though, especially because there's a flight of stairs basically right outside my bedroom. I know some sleepwalkers can seemingly traverse such obstacles without any issue and even go so far as to drive, but still⌠Lol, I'd probably tie myself to the bed.
What year was your house built? I think it was built in the 1970s.
Do you feel like you have more in common with men or with women? I'm actually not sure. There are more women in my life and I spend a fair amount of time around them, so that might skew my perception. But it probably depends more on the individual than their gender.
Whatâs your favorite superhero movie? Not a big fan of superhero movies, so I can't say I have one.
Do you want children? Why/why not? I've never been particularly interested in having children. In the beginning, there was no clear, driving reason behind it. There still isn't, but now, layered on top of that would be mental health issues and the fact that I'm not very independent or established in my own life. I'm still trying to figure out my own existence; it would likely be disastrous to bring a child into the mix.
Do you have any credit card debt? No.
Have you ever been really late for work because you slept past your alarm? No.
Are you good at reading people? Naw. I'm pretty shit at reading people.
Who do you go to for relationship advice? I'm not in a relationship, but I go to my dad, my therapist, and occasionally my mom for work or coworker related advice.
What was your favorite way to spend a summer day as a kid? Riding around the neighborhood on my bike, hanging out with friends doing whatever, swimming at Rock Canyon, going camping, etc.
Whatâs the longest youâve worked without a day off? I think six days would be the longestâŚ? So obviously nothing extreme.
Have you ever been scammed? I don't think so.
Do you know anyone who works in the tech industry in Silicon Valley? I don't.
Do you wear eyeliner? No.
Did you ever take a personal finance class in school? No. As far as I can recall, at least in high school, no such class was ever offered.
Howâs your mental health? Are you feeling well? My mental health is okayâŚI say even though I still have occasional thoughts of suicideâŚor hope that whatever physical symptom I'm experiencing means I'm going to die. Lmao. But it's all relative. I'm so much more functional than I was in the past. I'm no longer so self-destructive. I have hobbies and passions and at least a shred of hope for my future. Physically, thoughâŚI know you didn't ask for this, but things have been kinda weird lately. I started having some gastrointestinal issues in late November / early December and I feel like I'm on a roller coaster that gets better for a bit only to decline again. Yesterday, I had some pain near the bottom of / slightly below the middle of my ribcage that lasted all day and was practically debilitating by the time I got home from the animal shelter. I basically took a shower and went straight to bed. Didn't feel like a typical stomachache, bloat, constipation, or acid reflux. Looked up a handy-dandy anatomical buddy and it encompassed the area involving my liver, stomach, pancreas, and possibly transverse colon. And idk why I'm telling y'all this when I should be telling a doctor, but--
Did you have a Xanga page back in the pre-Myspace days? I'm actually not sure which one came first for me.
Around what year did you start using the internet, anyways? I think I would have been in 4th or 5th grade, so maybe sometime around 1998-1999.
Do you have any uncommon interests or hobbies? I guess But as far as most of them go, even if they aren't super common, people are at least familiar with them even if they don't engage in such activities themselves.
Whatâs something that would make you incredibly happy right now? It would make me incredibly happy as well as incredibly nervous because I wouldn't want to mess it up, but getting a job at the animal shelter. Cattery is packed with staff so I doubt they're looking to hire anyone at the moment, but hopefully the next time there's an opening. Oh, and snow for Christmas, but I don't think that's gonna happen. :'(
What did you do for your 18th birthday? I don't remember anything about my 18th birthday.
What temperature do you keep your thermostat set at in the winter? It varies.
Have you ever been to the Caribbean? No.
Have you ever fostered an animal? No.
What did you have for breakfast this morning? A bowl of cereal and a few saltines with peanut butter. I can't trust my usual oatmeal bowl. I can't trust a lot of my routine foods these days.
Whatâs your favorite form of exercise? Hiking.
Have you ever drank so much that you passed out? No.

Frozen Within the Night Wind: Jasper Hale x Fleur Swan, Chapter 10
None of the characters in Twilight belong to me, all rights go to Stephenie Meyer.
"Having you close My head is damaged I get closer, everything trembles me
Now I have the certainty That I have not lost the desire Wake up with you in the morning But I'm looking for your gaze And your eyes, baby, don't tell me anything."
Nuestro Planeta by, Kali Uchis Featuring Reykon. Translated lyrics.
Jasper, Jacob, and I were all standing in a large field awaiting the arrival of Bella and Edward. The very field we were standing in would be the battleground between us and the newborn army.
"Hey, le... Fleur?" Jacob asked."
"Hmm?"
"Why haven't your diluted eyes at all? They still look like a rose." Jacob observed.
"I mean it hasn't been a full year yet."
"Yes, darling but... they should've at least diluted a little by now, amber should start to peak through." Jasper added.
"That's strange...I haven't had any human blood I swear."
"Yeah right..." I heard Jacob mumble.
"Oh shove it, Jacob, at least I'm not in the middle of a toxic, manipulative, love triangle."
"Can it leech. You know nothing about Bella."
"Keep telling yourself that."
Before Jacob could rebuttal, Edward and Bella finally showed up. Edward didn't look thrilled at all and Bella had a blank look on her face.
"I don't like this idea at all." Edward grumbled.
"And we need you for the fight but you aren't coming to that so...tough, get over it." I rebutted.
"Leave him alone Fleur...he's doing it for me. Bet Jasper hasn't done that for you." Bella said a dreamy look was in her eyes.
"Uh...he didn't have to, because I didn't cause chaos where ever I went and didn't piss off nomads you dumbass." I heard Jasper let out a short laugh.
"Wait, pretty boy isn't fighting, aww did you pull a muscle?" Jacob mocked.
"Can we get on with this... I wanna be anywhere but here." I interrupted.
"Whatever, just tell me the plan." Jacob said.
"Edward and I are going on a campsite, even if he carries me theyâll still pick up our scents." Bella explained.
"Your stench, however, is revolting." Edward interrupted
"Dude, you really donât wanna start comparing stinks." Jacob snapped
"What he means is that your scent will mask mine if you carry me," Bella said.
"Done."
"This is not a good idea."
"You've already established that Edward," I said.
"Edward, they wonât wanna get anywhere near his... odor." Jasper carefully.
Jacob picked Bella up before saying... "Odor-de-wolf cominâ up."
Edward glared at me when Jacob was gone. Jasper noticed this and tensed up.
"You need to stop talking to her like that!"
"Like what? Truthfully, honestly?"
"It's not truthful it's insulting!"
"Dude...have you been living without any of your senses? The amount of shit she has said and done to me is a lot more disgraceful than how I am acting. Like I am petty, I know I am, but her pretending to be all innocent is hilarious."
"Oh please..."
"Okay so when she insults me and brings up that my mother completely hates my guts it's fine but when I rebuttal it's like I'm opening the gates of hell huh?"
"You don't know anything about her... she isn't malicious!"
"You sound just like Jacob."
"Don't even compare me to that...fleabag."
"What are you gonna do about?" I said he then got up close to my face, he looked like he was going to hit me.
"Don't test me Fleur... I will put you in your place if I have to."
"I'd love to see you try...boy." Jasper said getting between the two of us.
Edward snarled at us and walked away, stalking off to the far side of the field.
"Man... being a vampire has definitely amped up my attitude. Good thing you're here to stop me from doing something stupid." I joked.
"I think you're spending too much time with Rosalie darlin." Jasper said, smiling at me.
"This whole love triangle thing makes me want to set myself on fire. I kinda feel bad for Jacob...I know she's just manipulating him."
"I wouldn't put it past her darlin."
"I really wish we didn't have to do any of this...we should be getting married right now... not fighting a battle they could possibly be getting us killed." I confessed.
"Well one, we just have to wait until November... and two we will be fine, we've been training all this time."
"I know but...it's still a terrifying thought, this is the first fight I've ever been with another vampire."
"Did you forget about James love?"
"Well... with me as a vampire."
"You're going to be fine... Alice told me the vision she had of you fighting James, you cracked his skin by throwing a rock.... if you're that strong as a human I'm scared to see what you can do as a vampire."
"Okay, okay... stop trying to boost my ego." I said smirking, I pulled him in using some of my strength. I kissed him before pulling apart, biting his lip to tease him."
"You're cruel darlin, just cruel... Oh forgot to say something..."
"What is it?"
"Bella and Edward got engaged."
"Oh my god... are you serious?"
"Yeah, and Alice said they planned on eloping in Vegas."
"She must be really angry with those two..."
"Actually, she isn't really that mad."
"Okay, what happened to Alice?"
"I think she's starting to get a little... annoyed with Bella."
"It was bound to happen... Dad is going to kill Edward."
Edward ran toward us again and told us to be quiet. Before I could ask why Bella and Jacob came back into view.
"Well Jasper and I will do a quick sniff check... you three can stay here and.... mingle." Before they could protest we took off into the woods.
"The stench is revolting."
"It is pretty bad."
"I can't make up any Bella though, so the plan worked."
We quickly ran back down to the field, both of us had stepped down off of a broken tree laying on the ground.
"Just picked up wolf stench, no Bella." Jasper stated
Timeskip: 2 hours later
I was waiting for Alice in the Cullen's house, knowing that Alice told dad we were all going on a camping trip. I thought it would be good if we all hunted before the battle to power up. I needed all the strength I could get.
"I swear if Bella and Edward do anything in our room I am going to kick Edward to the moon." I grumbled.
"Don't worry Fleur...I'm sure Edward won't do anything." Jasper reassured, a guilty look was on his face, however.
"You threatened him didn't you?" Not buying his innocent act.
"Yes, yes I did."
"Alright everyone, we can go!" I heard Alice say outside, Dean, Jasper, Rosalie, Emmett, Esme, Carlisle, and I all made our way outside quickly.
Timeskip: 6 hours later
"Damn Emmett, at this point you're going to put bears into extinction."
"Serves them right short stack."
"Dude I am 5'9, that's pretty tall for a girl."
"But pretty short for someone who's 6'5."
"Oh shut it and hit your head in the doorway again."
"Darlin, if he keeps doing that the support beams are going to give out in the house." Jasper added.
"Nah they'll be fine, he's as tall as a support beam." I joked.
"Can't wait to kick some newborn-vampire ass," Dean said, jumping up slightly in excitement. Alice giggled and wrapped her arms around him
"Are the newborns still making their way to the field Alice?" Carlisle asked.
"Yes, they should be here at 5:15 pm tomorrow."
"We'll be ready," Carlisle said.
"You guys go ahead in, I need some quiet. I'm going to try and track Victoria."
They all nodded and went inside, I saw them all however observing me through the glass walls."
I got into my trance, rolling my eyes behind my head and I was flying through the city once again. I stopped in an underground tunnel, the likes of which was located in Seattle. I finally found her, she was talking with that man that turned me... the name I finally found out to be Riley Biers.
"Youâre not coming with us?" He asked angrily.
"Itâll be a last-minute decision. I told you how it works." Victoria replied she seemed bored.
"The Cullenâs have powers according to one of your friends," Riley said skeptically.
"Yes, my friend told me... my DEAD friend. Donât underestimate them, Riley. One of them made me have hallucinations of my friend. Youâll have the numbers, but theyâll be able to anticipate your every move. You donât trust me do you?"
"I trust you with my life. Iâm just sayingâŚ"
"Iâm doing this for us so that we can feed without theirâŚretaliation and I canât live in fear anymore waiting for them to attack."
"I wonât let them. Iâm going to end the Cullen clan. I swear."
I broke out of my trance before I could get anything else out of the conversation. I rushed inside, eager to tell them what I found.
"It was Victoria guys!" I said.
"What? I would've seen it." Alice replied.
"She was hiding behind that kid, Riley... She's letting him lead the army to us..."

Finding Each Other
Entering Rorikstead as the sun begins to set, Lucien is humming some new song he made up. Ren roll his eyes at the only closest friend he had from his childhood. They step in the Inn and greeted a familiar face of Erik. He smiles as he sees them enter. "Ah, Ren. Good to see you and Lucien back here again. Staying here before another grand adventure?" He asks with a smile.
""Yes and no. We just got out of the tomb Valthume." Ren replies, cutting the story short. He was exhausted. He steps up the counter where Erik's father is. "Can I get two rooms?" He asks, coldly. "Of course. That'll be 10 gold pieces." The man says. "I'm gonna need them for two days." He says dropping a medium size pouch of gold on the counter.
The man eyes him. "This should cover the rooms, food, drinks and care for the horses." Ren says, walking away from the counter and making his way to the room. He changes into a simple pair of trousers and a shirt. Lucien comes in there and looks at him. He sits in the chair and watches as Ren stares at his charred hands.
"You okay?" Lucien asks, unsure what else to say. He knew that Ren was struggling with his calling as Dragonborn. He was worried for his friend. "Just tired. I need some rest. I already paid for the rooms and food. Go eat and entertain the newest guard to Rorikstead with tales from our recent adventures. I'm gonna rest." Ren says, waving his worried friend off with his hand.
Lucien stands and walks out of the room, pulling the door closed behind him. He sighs as he sits at the bar. He knows that his best friend is struggling with his calling. Erik comes and joins him at the bar. They eat and talk the night away.
The next morning, Ren wakes up to hearing frightened voices in the bar. He goes to step outside his room but Lucien and Erik push him back in and shut the door behind them. Lucien hands him the armor he wears while slaying dragons near cities.
"There's a dragon flying near one one of the old Forsworn camps. Everyone is startled." Erik explains. "Yeah, kinda figured. Had weird dreams about them all night. How am I suppose to get out of here without them noticing?" Ren asks. "Leave that to me. I've been practicing an invisibility spell. Hurry and change before the dragon makes it way here." Lucien says, turning his back. Erik follows suit.
Ren clears his throat and Lucien nods as he turns around. He mumbles a soft incantation and smiles. "Did it work?" Ren asks. "Look in the mirror." Lucien says, excitedly. Ren turns around and can't see anything. "Damn, I can't believe. Let's go." He says, as he crouches down. He follows Lucien through the crowded, being careful not to step on or bump into people.
Lucien opens the door and leads him to the path on the other side of the hill and they hear the growls of a dragon. Ren pulls out his favorite bow, Mehrune's Talon. It was something given to him from an old friend that worshiped Mehrune Dagon. When he sees the dragon, he starts firing arrows. Lucien stays back using magic. "Lucien, remember these dragons can sap your magic. Better to use your bow." Ren shouts.
Ren notices something down below them as the dragon takes flight. He sees red hair flowing as arrows flies past them, hitting the dragon in the side. The dragon roars, as Ren slides down the hill. He senses something familiar about this person. The woman glares at him as he stands beside her firing arrows at the beast. "Are you trying to take my kill?" She yells angrily. "No, just looked like you needed some help." He says, calmly.
Lucien stumbles down the hill and ducks as the dragon swoops over them, casting a ward to protect them from it's breathe. "Impeccable timing, Lu-Lu." Ren teases through the mask. Lucien just smiles, "Better late than never, right?" He huffs. Ren can clearly see he is exhausted. "Think we can bring this big guy down and finish him off?" Ren ask, looking over at the beautiful female beside. "Yeah, if we aim for the wings. Hope you can handle some heat." She says, still angry with this guy.
"Lu-Lu, you know what to do." Ren smirks. "Right, boss." He smirks, casting fire resistance spells over the three over them. After that, they bring the dragon down. Ren sighs as he hears the whooshing sound. He looks over and sees the woman absorb the soul of the dragon. Lucien goes to say something but Ren cuts him off. "How?" He asks out of astonishment.
The woman looks over at him. Fear fills her eyes. She goes to run but trips and twist her ankle. She cries out in pain. Ren and Lucien go closer to her. She pulls a dagger and aims at them. "You won't kill me. I will kill you both!" She screams. "Whoa, whoa. Put the dagger away. We don't want to harm you." Ren tries to calm her. "Whatever. That didn't stop any of the other people who have seen me." She cries.
"We want to help." Lucien says, putting his weapon to the side. "Can I at least look at your ankle? I'm a healer of sorts." Lucien asks, calmly. She nods, quietly. Lucien sits in front of her as she moves her foot in front of him. Ren sits his weapons to the side too, also removing the mask to reveal his face. She gasps as she looks at his eyes. His left eye was green and his right blue.
He sits down beside Lucien, who is healing her ankle and using a calming spell. "My name is Ren and this lovely fellow here is Lucien. May we ask your name?" Ren asks, softly. She looks around and sighs. "My name is Kisara. I was a Forsworn until a couple of months ago. I was kicked from my home and tribe. Honestly, that's all you need to know. Thanks for the help, but I must get going before the people from the town find me and try to kill me." She says, standing.
Kisara puts her weapon away and starts walking back toward the camp that is destroyed. Ren and Lucien watch as she stands there and stares at the destroyed camp. "Dammit. Fuck, now what am I gonna do?" She says, turning around noticing they are still there. "Come with us. I promise you will have all the gold and food you could ever need. Plus I still have questions." Ren says. "But the town people will attack me." Kisara says, motioning toward her armor.
Ren whistles and a solid black horse runs toward them and stops at Ren's side. He opens one of the saddle bags and rummages through it. He pulls out some black trousers and grey tunic. He hands them to her. "Sorry, I don't have anything else, but once we get to Whiterun. I can talk to Euroland and get you some armor crafted that will better fit you. I'm sure Ysolda can have you some clothes crafted to fit you too." Ren offers. He turns his back. Lucien blushes and quickly turns his back too.
Kisara quickly changes from her armor to the clothes Ren gave her. They were big on her, but she managed to make them fit. She quickly runs her fingers through her hair and braids it down her back, revealing her ears. She taps both the men on their shoulders, making Lucien jump. They both turn around. Ren smiles when he notices her ears. "I thought you were just a Nord dressed up in Forsworn armor." He admits, with a blush.
"I'm half Bosmer/half Nord. I never knew my parents. Kira, the woman who took care of me, said she found me in the woods. So she took me in. She said fell in love with my red hair and uniquely colored eyes." Kisara explains. "Yes, they favor Ren's but yours are the opposite." Lucien says. Ren removes his hood, revealing his ears too. "I'm half Bosmer/half Nord as well. My parents were killed by the Thalmor when I was a teenager. I was forced to live on my own in the Imperial City." He smiles, sadly. "My mom told me I had a sister, but she was kidnapped as a baby." He explains.
Her eyes widen, maybe they were related somehow. She shakes her head. "Let's get back to the village and I will answer all your questions." She says. "Right, Lucien take her on ahead. I'll meet up with you after I change." Ren says, rummaging through the other saddle bag. "Right, Kisara. This way." Lucien says, walking away from Ren and leading her toward the city.
(To anyone reading this: Would you like more of this little? If so comment and let me know. This was kinda fun to write.)
