kind of feel like 'write for yourself, nobody else' is bad advice. like i get where its coming from. but idk. it just feels too general. at least for me writing is about connecting with others and good writing knows how to do that. not connecting with everyone - not writing to please - but still connecting with others you know. you have to know what questions people might ask and how you might be able to get them invested etc etc.

#bee talks #i just see it so much and im like wait #but a good writer/filmmaker/artist will have in mind how certain things will affect people and use that to their advantage #its nuanced!!!#wait!!! my nuance!!!#like yes i write for me in terms of the stories i choose to tell and the characters and themes i build #but i also write to share that passion with people #and part of doing that well or at least trying to is understanding the way people might respond to things - what tools you can use to keep #people engaged you know #this is a random thought prompted by the thousandth 'write like nobody will read' post ive seeensdfhjkdafl #ive seen one too many student projects that clearly follow the write for yourself philosophy #but they just dont consider what'll actually make their story engaging
