But for those of us who are actually interested in understanding one another, sometimes you just have to ask what people mean instead of, say, willfully misinterpreting them ;)
Ok but, I don't understand how this is because "people change the definitions they're using and refuse to admit it", when the entire post was about colloquial language. Why does someone have to admit that they know multiple definitions to a word when you can just ask which definition they meant or how they meant it- why is the urge to attack rather than communicate. I'm seriously not understanding.
I just don't get it, why do people need to admit to anything... tf are you the police?
"That's not really what that word means in its original sense."
I'm sorry, I'm used to using colloquial language because I find it is helpful it being understood by the majority of people. Thank you for letting me know who I am speaking to, I will now set my conversational skills to pedantry mode for the remainder of this encounter.
#quote#quotes#like i get it i'm autistic sometimes i am a lil slow on the uptake of what definition we're using#but there's no need to attack or attempt to dismantle someone elses form of communication#just use them fun little words we all love so much and ASK THEM#hey friend did you mean that word this way or that way?#honestly it really comes down to “are you trying to communicate and understand me or are you trying to debate me”#i do not do debates i only want to communicate with others thanks

Some updates to the HK/NSR crossover AU, since the original was made pre-release (the following does contain spoilers!):
Ghost
Ran away from the Trankil Adoption Agency due to finding most humans too restrictive on their freedom; they’re accustomed to being able to come and go as they please, and the agency doesn’t really approve of trankil running around unattended. BBJ are more relaxed about it, leading to the little one being along the lines of a latchkey trankil.
Mayday and Zuke earn their trust by buying them food and helping them clean up in the restaurant’s bathroom, rather than just grabbing them and dragging them back to the agency. Aunty, for one, adores them, due to their sweet little face and how eagerly they eat her cooking.
Has pulled a knife on Kliff, multiple times, because he’s creepy as hell and sets off all their alarms, much to the exasperation of Zuke and Mayday. He tries bribing them with toys and snacks up until his betrayal, after which he almost gets stabbed again before BBJ drag Ghost with them to stop the fans.
Zuke doesn’t let them draw their blade in the sewer or on the streets, normally, but he doesn’t necessarily ban them from sharps entirely. He can tell they know how to use them, though he opts to let them use a kitchen knife instead of the haphazard scrap of metal they’ve been swinging around on the streets.
Zam has attempted to conduct interviews with Ghost before, but finds himself mostly just perplexed at their answers. "Okay, I’m looking at what appear to be, uh, hieroglyphics of some kind. I can see something that kind of looks like a rhinoceros beetle head... They’re shaking their head ‘no.’” The little section where he interviews them is nicknamed Ghost Tour.
Comet
They were sleeping in DJ Subatomic Supernova’s apartment at the time of the battle, since he didn’t think he’d need their help. They’re too small to be asked for a whole lot, anyway; he mostly has them around to keep himself company and have someone to talk to (or at, as the case may be).
Their sound energy absorbing powers would probably be enough to deactivate some of NSR’s robots; it comes in handy when the rogue robots are getting in the way of reinstating their guardian as charter.
Their favorite stuffed animal is a toy dolphin that DJSS calls Delphinus, though Comet calls them Splashy when they learn how to write.
As they grow older, their horns begin pointing backward and eventually curling into a similar shape to ram’s horns.
DJSS secretly relishes in the opportunity to have a legacy in the form of taking care of Comet, though he doesn’t know that they are probably more likely to carry his name farther into the future than any drones he sends up to space.
Bunny
They live with Remi, the artist and leader of the Sayu team. He treats them much like a little sibling, in the nice way, and gets them to watch some of the more family-friendly anime he watches; they’re particularly fond of Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, even if they keep dismantling the figures he gets them. They’re much gentler with the plushies, though.
It takes a few weeks of watching Dodo and Sofa work on machinery to get them learning how to build stuff as well as break it. They make it an entire thing when they grow older, working on machinery.
They eventually grow cheek spines, not unlike some depictions of the adult Ghost, and otherwise heavily resemble Hornet as an adult. Much taller than her, though.
Sayu’s kind of reluctant to attack Ghost because they resemble Bunny so much; “You’re too cute to fight!” Zuke doesn’t like the idea of Ghost acting like a trankil shield in fights, but it does help throw off her aim.
Thorn
Yinu’s mom specifically chose the former Broken Vessel because they were the only trankil that expressed any interest in Yinu’s infodumping about classical music. They even responded to questions with head shaking or nodding.
They come to Yinu’s side after her piano breaks, letting go of their fight with Ghost quickly enough; they don’t fault their sibling for doing what they thought was right, even if they don’t understand it, but they believed Yinu needed their support more.
They’re taking violin lessons, as it’s a touch easier to adjust to playing with four fingers on that then on piano. They get pretty good at it as an adult, though in the modern day their playing is a touch mediocre.
After their performance at Yinu’s concert, fighting in her defense with a stolen machete, Yinu’s mom at first grounds Thorn for stealing and playing with sharps, but concedes to put them in a fencing program to “get it out of their system.” They turn out a lot more competent than the instructors were expecting, and intimidate the crap out of their peers. When they’re older they take up a proper swordfighting class.
Yinu does wind up joining them in learning fencing, after her mother gets a recommendation to get her to get more exercise to avoid literally rooting herself to her piano (not an unusual issue for plant folks; they have to move pretty regularly or else they get stuck in one spot and have to be cut out). Her mom worries that she takes to it a touch too eagerly, perhaps because of her relative helplessness.
Thorn acts fairly stoic and polite most of the time, but they can be quite the handful when something piques their interest. They get banned from at least one Renaissance fair due to playing with the swords or poking the roasting pig. Yinu starts covering for them after they start bribing her with extra sweets.
Scotty
Neon J initially treated them like a trainee when he got them, but it quickly slipped into adopted child territory when he realized just how young they were. He did want kids back when he was human, so he took very quickly to the role of adoptive father.
Scotty is very good at learning language and patterns, so they wind up learning English writing pretty quickly for one of their kind. Because of this, Neon J becomes one of the few privy to the nature of the vessels, though he is uncharacteristically quiet about it.
1010 adores Scotty, occasionally posting about them on social media, making them a bit of a fandom darling, though the band does have to put out PSAs about not getting a trankil irresponsibly.
Scotty’s favorite food is cheese tarts and cheese danishes, which they tend to be awarded for good behavior.
Scotty is a very active child; they dance, they run around the mansion, they swim in the pool (and just about any fountain they run across, much to Neon J’s embarrassment), and they can’t be brought within 100 feet of a dog park without trying to pet every animal in the vicinity.
They try their best to comfort their adoptive dad when he’s suffering from phantom pains or flashbacks, though they don’t know the techniques very well. Their usual method is gently patting his hand or leaning against him (among vessels they’d be leaning against each other in large groups, leading to one big cuddle pile; they can’t do it here by themselves, but they’ll sure as hell try).
Much to Neon J’s embarrassment, they become quite the potty mouth (er, hands) when they get older. He’s a sailor, he slips up every now and then!
Riley
The former Greenpath Vessel is rather happy to leave behind the harsh life they lived back in Hallownest, though they find the most success in recounting their old life through art.
Eve tends to be a very dramatic teacher, but quite gentle with her little friend. She couldn’t have asked for a more enthusiastic student, though.
Eve’s quite protective of the little thing; she’s not quite as heartbroken about Zuke’s abandonment due to the company of her apprentice/adopted child, but the thought of them being taken away tends to scare her quite a bit. As such, she tends to spoil them rotten, though they’re still quite sweet.
Riley has a degree of PTSD from their experience in Hallownest; they’re very sensitive to sounds and movement in their peripheral, and have bitten and scratched people on more than one occasion for getting in their bubble without proper warning or consent. Eve’s pretty good about avoiding their blindspot and having her footsteps make noise they can track.
Eve’s among the first to learn about the Lord of Shades and the dream realm due to her teaching her magic painting to Riley. With her help, they created the Dark Mirror, which allows people to enter a sort of waking simulation of the dream realm, though it tends to seriously disorient people not accustomed to messing with reality (musicians tend to do fine, but normal folks? Not so much). It becomes a very useful communication tool when discussing Hallownest and how it functioned.
Sterling
The former Hollow Knight views themselves as deeply indebted to Tatiana, though also viewing her as a friend. She gave them a name, a new purpose, and an opportunity to live again without the constraints of their failed duty; of course they’re going to feel kind of guilty about it.
Only the NSR artists and a few select NSR personnel have seen them in person, and the first thing people tend to notice is their sheer size. Tatiana worries how much renovations will have to be done to accommodate the rest of their kin once they grow up, if they wind up matching their eldest sibling.
They tend to have a reasonably positive relationship with the artists, due to their kindness towards the vessels and generally respectful attitude towards the behemoth of a trankil. DJSS tends to rant about space in their general direction as his idea of small talk, and they tolerate it. He also not so subtly squees when he sees Comet interacting with their elder sibling. Sayu’s team thinks they’re anime hero levels of cool, sword and all, and Bunny tends to agree, trying to challenge them to fight. Yinu’s mom tends to scrutinize them as reference for Thorn’s later growth, though Yinu herself and Thorn tend to climb the adult trankil like a tree for fun. Neon J respects them deeply as a knight and technical prince, though Scotty’s pretty content to try and get them to play when they visit. Eve appreciates their good manners and willingness to listen, and Riley rather likes showing them their drawings.
Tatiana tends to treat Sterling as something of a confidante, due to their quiet nature and strong sense of loyalty. She worries they idolize her a touch too much to be healthy, but knowing what she does about their past, she’s not sure if a human therapist would help.
The wings grew in a couple weeks before the Rock Revolution; evidently they hadn’t developed quite enough to develop them before they had been sealed, leading to serious back troubles during their fight before their rebirth. It was a pretty chaotic affair helping them through their last molt, considering the other trankil who’ve been molting had a lot less to shed.
Tatiana tends to scold Sterling for digging through her old rock cassettes, though she comes to regret it after the whole debacle with BBJ.
Sterling’s way more ruthless than Tatiana asks for or is fully aware of; they tend to take threats to their new life, siblings, and new companions very, very seriously, and god help the poor soul who convinces them to act. Kliff doesn’t last long after the Rock Revolution, because of this, not that anyone notices.
Misc
The vessels were united under the leadership of Ghost to create the Lord of Shades, and upon killing and absorbing the Radiance, they’ve essentially become the collective gods of the Dream Realm as well as the Void and probably Death too. The level of focus and cooperation needed to fully activate these powers is incredibly high, especially after the vessels begin developing individual personalities, so there won’t be any casual appearances of the Shade Lord any time soon.
Vessels don’t need to eat to grow for the first five or six years of their life, as they have a lot of soul energy stored in their bodies from birth to facilitate growth in the Abyss (their “yolk”), but once that’s expended they won’t grow any more until they gain a stable food source and a safe environment to molt, hence why Ghost spent such a long time being so small, despite being the same age as Sterling. While not eating won’t kill them, humans don’t know that.
The average height for an adult vessel is 8 feet, from the bottom of their feet to base of their horns, whereas a newly hatched vessel (like Comet) is about the size of a tennis ball curled up.
People who aren’t accustomed to the otherworldly presence of the trankil tend to freak out when they’re nearby; the sheer emptiness of their eyes, the expressionless faces, the inhuman size and proportions all give anybody not used to it the heebie-jeebies. Of course, Vinyl City locals stopped caring pretty shortly after they first got the trankil.

Whichever question you wanna answer most for all of then
I chose number 4
Has your character witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?
Derormr at first didn’t care much for the Stormcloak Rebellion but after witnessing Torygg’s death at Ulfric’s hand however, he starts to despise the rebels. Part of his reasoning for forming the Ebonheart Company is to help repair relations between both Nords and non-Nords. Elisif, Sonaire, Horoth and Ushwei know about it
Ingda first joined the Dawnguard for the potential of money, but soon realised the scale of threat they were facing when she met with Harkon. The same is true for Alusati and Ra’thri-Dar. Serana and Athasai know this.
Kayesek failed to save his father when their home was attacked by bandits, his brother disowned him and he moved to Chorrol in Cyrodiil. Despite his brother’s cruel words to him, the event made him determined to try his best at preventing a similar tragedy befalling other families. Only Yaznakh, Enron and Lydia know about it.
Gelor was more or less bored with the lack of life/world-altering events going on when he was a boy as he was born after the Great War and found a shrine to Mehrunes Dagon, left completely undisturbed. He had always had the hidden, controversial opinion that Dagon brought about a catalyst for rebirth from the ashes. When Dagon first spoke to him, it became his main purpose in life to revive the Mythic Dawn. Silus knew before Gelor killed him.
Rena grew up in the slums of Bravil and despite her parents trying their best to provide for her they were still poor labourers. When she discovered her gift in haggling she realised the potential for earning money almost instantly, it made her determined to never fall into poverty again. Daro’adhi is the one who knows.
Lisnna was ostracized by other nobles as she was a bastard of a much-beloved man who was considered honourable. The scandal caused him to give up his position in the court, the death of her mentor during the Invasion of Wayrest, who taught her magic, the only person she felt truly close with gave her the conviction to train her magical abilities and try to take Wayrest back from the Corsairs who overtook it. Mausis, Loueus, Borgakh, Erandur and her colleagues at the College of Winterhold know.
Loueus was always a worshipper of Hircine, believing strongly in the potential for the Bloodmoon Prophecy of the Fourth Era to come about in his lifetime. While it’s a far-off date, the corsairs that overtook Wayrest were commanded to root out any sort of Daedra worship. This included the hunters Loueus grew up with, he was out hunting when they were attacked and killed. Mausis, Lisnna, Erandur and Borgakh know.
Mausis always experienced prejudice on account his Orcish heritage and after the Invasion of Wayrest, in which he lost his adopted parents and many of his mentors. Like his friends, he wants to take Wayrest back from the Corsairs but knows he needs power to do it and uses the skills he has to become a squire in an attempt to work his way up the social ladder. Lisnna, Loueus, Erandur and Borgakh know.
Yaznakh always wanted to join the Legion as her Altmer father was a Legionairre. When she first started losing friends though, that’s when the cruel reality of war sunk in for her. Fighting in the Great War made her stricter and harder but also installed in her a burning desire to stop the Dominion from taking Tamriel or die trying.
Daro’adhi, like Rena grew up in Bravil’s slums. Her parents were Skooma addicts, unfortunately her mother died after a bad batch of the narcotic and her father desperately tried to use their inheritance to pay of a powerful skooma dealer. It didn’t work, her father was killed and she was left an orphan. Because of this, she learned to be a thief to survive and hates both skooma and the scum who peddle it, as she puts it. Rena, a few other rough sleepers in Bravil and several members of the Thieves Guild know.
Ushwei was once loyal to the king of Black Marsh but questioned why more wasn’t being done to help Argonians outside of their home province. While it annoyed him that he typically got a cryptic answer about how any Argonian from outside Black Marsh was a traitor he still loyally served. Until one day a group of Dunmer refugees, a child among them, was caught trying to cross over to Cyrodiil through Black Marsh due to a lack of regulations of Imperial authority on it’s borders. The king spun a tale about how they were spies of the Great Houses and ordered them all executed. Despite his pleas for mercy, Ushwei was ignored and resigned as the king’s bodyguard, claiming he didn’t want to serve a monarch who cowered at the sight of a little girl. Brand-Shei, Madesi, Sonaire, Horoth and Derormr know what happened.
Veesk was always ostracized, so she basically grew up very bitter but once she learned of the Shadowscales, made it her mission to seek out the Dark Brotherhood. Riraisa and the rest of the Dark Brotherhood know.
Enron used to be an optimistic soldier in the Aldmeri Dominion army during the Great War unfortunately, the deaths of his parents and friends, among them the love of his life. As well as his participation in atrocities absolutely broke him. He grew to hate the Dominion because of this, which was only exacerbated by his superior’s flippant attitude towards his loved one’s deaths. However, he saw his desertion as the first step towards redemption and decides to dedicate his life to helping people. Yaznakh, Kayesek and Lydia know.
Sonaire saw her husband killed by hired thugs sent after her and her spouse by her father, who had planned to marry her off to someone else. Coincidentally, she was rescued by members of another bandit group who were rivals of the thugs that invaded her home. One of them, an Orc named Guro, taught her everything she knew about how to fight. She stayed with the bandit group until they were dismantled due to numerous factors. She later joins the Ebonheart Company, though they don’t find out about her past until much later.
Horoth, as a Dunmer raised on Solstheim, was quite xenophobic to outsiders. The feelings of resentment against Argonians he was taught also fed into this. However, after he was helped out by Ushwei, he started to become a bit more open-minded and even grew to have a great respect for both Ushwei and Derormr. Sonaire, Ushwei and Derormr know.
Riraisa’s change was purely accidental, where she was from, due to the events of the Red Year and Argonian Invasion she was taught to never harm a child, anyone who dared to do so were to be given the most severe punishments. After fleeing from town guards as she unwittingly made herself an accomplice to a serial killer, she arrived in Riften. Hoping to find work in the orphanage, she came across Grelod abusing the children in her care, next thing she knew, she’d slashed the old hag’s throat open. She was later kidnapped by Astrid and was inducted into the DB. Veesk and the rest of the DB knows.
Thalas’s parents were nationalistic Bosmer who despised the Aldmeri Dominion, one night after a heated debate during a political trip with several Thalmor representatives. They were set upon by Thalmor agents. She survived the encounter as she was hunting for food to return to her parents at the camp they set up. Thus her vendetta against the Dominion began.
Athasai lost his wife, son and daughter to a vampire. A pure-blooded Bonmasu who charmed his way into the hunting community Athasai belonged to. On the 20th of Evening Star (Molag Bal’s summoning day), the vampire revealed himself along with a coven of other vampires. After killing his family, the same vampire fed off Athasai, though he had already drank blood from each member of Athasai’s family, meaning he didn’t take enough to kill Athasai and inadvertently turned him into a pure-blood Bonmasu. He turned from a mild-mannered hunter into a ruthless avenger, hellbent on tracking down the vampire that ruined his mortal life. Serana, Alusati, Ingda and Ra’thri-Dar know.

The Bronx: Part 6
Pairing: Reader x Peter Parker Word Count: 2.1K Warnings: Angst, fighting, torture
A/N: I tried to make this the last part, but there’s too much to wrap up! SO one more part!
Feedback is always appreciated. Let me know if you want to be added to the tags list.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5
You and your friends split up, half of you taking on the terrorists and the other half head for the machine that was sucking up the city. Warpath and X-23 fall into line with your old teammates - Steve, Bucky and Sam - and begin fighting against the terrorists. You, Cyclops and Blink move as fast as possible towards the machine, and try to avoid getting sucked up into it. White Queen was changing between your group and the others, helping to shield everyone from the terrorists bullets, with her diamond form, as well as helping the team communicate with the ex-Avengers.
Blink concentrates on diverting the debris that was being dragged into the machine, and out of everyone’s way. You try your best to help her, using your wind to push things out of the machine’s path, until Cyclops’ voice sounds through the communication bud in your ear.
“Korra,” his voice is strained and forced, he was struggling, “I need a little help dismantling this thing,”
You glance at Blink, who gives you a nod of approval, before you rush over to help Cyclops. You make a wrong turn around a pillar and suddenly you’re in the machine’s path. You plant your feet, but it’s useless, the machine is too strong and it’s dragging you closer. Using your wind, you direct it at the machine in an attempt to counteract the vacuum-like pull. Your powers help to slow you down just enough for you to bring up various concrete platforms from the street. With your left hand pointed towards the machine, your wind continues to keep you from being pulled into it; while your right hand is directed downwards, allowing you to use fire so that you can propel yourself from platform to platform. You ascend high enough so that you escape the machine’s vacuum. Water streams from both palms as you leap off the last, tallest platform and you safely descend. The moment your feet touch the ground, you run as fast as your feet can carry you. Cyclops was standing a few metres behind the machine. He stops blasting his lasers at the machine’s frame when you enter his peripherals.
You’re frozen for a moment as you get your first glimpse of the back of the machine. None of the debris that it was dragging in is exiting. ‘Portal?’ you ponder.
‘Everyone thinks so,’ White Queen’s voice answers your unspoken question,
“I’m trying to break it apart,” Cyclops explains to you, “But my powers aren’t enough... What is this thing made out of?”
“How do you know that breaking the frame will work?” you shout at him over the loud whirring noise that was coming from the portal machine. He only shrugs. It was the best idea that anyone had so far, so you’d have to follow his lead and hope for the best.
You and Cyclops work together, both aiming your powers at one section of the machine at a time. You were allowing your fire to burn hotter and hotter, and your heart starts to race as you realise you’d never gotten your fire this hot before. The last time you felt this kind of heat pulsing through you was in that alleyway, when you’d lost control.
You hold your powers for so long that your arms start to shake, and you start to feel light headed. But you don’t stop. You force yourself to keep your intensity, chanting to yourself, ‘It’s about to break, it’s about to break,’
As if by fate, the machine’s frame breaks, bringing it crashing down, at the same time the others defeat the terrorists. You slump over, your hands grasping your knees to keep you somewhat upright as your chest heaves, desperate for more oxygen. To say you were exhausted would be an understatement.
“Good job,” Secretary Ross’ voice sounds through your comms, “Now, complete your second objective before the criminals escape,”
Your stomach drops as you remember the order you’d been given before the battle. With all the pressure of saving the city, you had practically forgotten that Steve, Sam and Bucky were also enemies. The metal shock collar around your neck feel like it ways a million kilos, reminding you of Ross’ ultimatum.
Your enhanced friends don’t give the next objective a second thought. Cyclops starts jogging over to where Warpath and X-23 are, and probably where your old team mates still stand.
“Come on!” he urges when he notices you haven’t moved a muscle.
Fighting the men that used to be your team mates, and were still your heroes, is the last thing you want to do right now. But the memory of how painful the electric shock from the collar is gets your feet moving. Your stomach knots as you catch up with White Queen, Blink and Cyclops; all of you jumping over motionless debris to get to the next fight.
You round a corner and see that Steve, Sam and Bucky are already facing off against Warpath and X-23. X-23′s metal claws are glistening in the sunlight, but she doesn’t move; only staring at Warpath for the go ahead. Warpath has his guns trained on Steve; who looks to be trying to reason with your friends while Sam and Bucky aim their weapons.
The moment Warpath spots you and your friends, the fighting begins. X-23 launches herself at Steve, who can only use his shield to hold off her deadly claws. Everyone else is forced to take cover as bullets start firing.
“White Queen!” Warpath yells, grabbing everyone’s attention. She knows exactly what he wants and weaves her way to him. Once she reaches him, she transforms and helps to shield him. Warpath peaks his guns over her shoulder and starts aiming at Sam and Bucky as he and White Queen inch closer. Bucky is forced to take refuge behind Sam’s Falcon wings to avoid getting hit.
You’re frozen as you watch the two teams fight, an internal war waging inside you. You didn’t want to see either side get hurt, they were all your friends.
“Y/N,” Ross’ voice shouts in your ear, “Get moving!”
Before you can even move a muscle a short, sharp electrical shock courses through you. It only lasted a couple of seconds - a warning - but it hurt like hell. The pain forces you to join your enhanced friends, and attack your old team mates. X-23 seems to be holding her own against Steve, so you focus your powers on Sam and Bucky.
Fire bursts from your palms, and curls around Sam’s wings. You hold it there, the guilty knot in your stomach tightening every second, and soon the wings become too hot for Sam and Bucky to stay behind. They are forced to expose themselves, and that’s when you see Cyclops readying his glasses.
You knew the power that he could emit from him eyes; it wouldn’t just injure Sam or Bucky, it would kill them.
“Look out!” you yell a warning at your old teammates just in time for them to dive for cover from Cyclops’ lasers.
“What was that?” Ross’ voice barks in your ear, immediately followed by an electric shock that makes all your muscles seize.
Secretary Ross wasn’t holding back. The electricity flowing through you is so intense that you collapse, your limbs ridged and screaming in pain. You cry out, just as the electricity stops, leaving you gasping for breath.
By the time you recover, the battle had completely changed. Cyclops and Blink were now attacking Steve, who was barely staying alive. White Queen was shielding Warpath as he took shots as Sam, who was using a, still glowing hot, wing to cover himself while he fired back. And X-23 was facing off against Bucky.
Bucky raises a steady arm, and fires a bullet at X-23. The bullet meets its target, and the force of the bullet hitting her in the middle of the forehead sends her falling backwards, and falling to the ground. He stares in disbelief as she stands. She was visibly seething with anger, and lets out an animalistic growl as she launches herself at Bucky. He blocks her claws with his metal arm, and throws her off.
X-23 was tough, but Bucky seemed to be holding his own; which worries you. The two of them weren’t the type of people to take it easy in a fight or walk away from one.
Bucky takes another shot, hitting X-23 in the head again. Knowing that one bullet wouldn’t take her out, Bucky holds the trigger, letting a hail of bullets tear into her.
You rush forward, and use your wind to push Bucky backwards, throwing off his aim. Before he can recover, you use your powers to pick up a small boulder of concrete and throw it at the super soldier. The concrete slams into Bucky’s chest and he crashes to the ground.
You glance back and see X-23 still on the ground, her body pushing out the bullets and healing itself.
“Y/N?” Bucky calls, drawing your attention to him, “What-?”
“I’m sorry,” you say, your voice breaking, “If I had a choice-” your voice is cut off by a cry of pain escaping you. Ross had sent the electricity coursing through you again. Bucky’s eyes flit to the metal collar that controlled you, and his face softened. If anyone knew what you were dealing with, he did.
A growl sounds from beside you, and you see a flash of X-23 as she launches herself onto Bucky. You’re frozen as you watch the battle that was waging around you. People who had no personal vendettas were forced to fight each other, and it was looking like it wouldn’t end until someone died.
Bucky throws X-23 off and you see an opportunity to end the fight in a way that everyone lived; and hopefully would allow your old teammates to escape.
Taking a deep breath, you let your powers sweep into the broken street below your feet. With a slowly, tenses movement of your arms coming upwards, a slab of concrete, 50 metres long starts ascending out of the ground. You pull the concrete up and push it to over 10 metres high before letting your arms collapse. You’d erected a wall between the two groups, making it impossible for either to attack.
The moment the wall is up, the pain that overcomes you is unlike anything you’d felt before. It forces you to collapse again, but it doesn’t stop. Through the pain, you see the jet that had dropped you and your friends off land nearby, and the cargo door lowers to reveal Secretary Ross, looking extremely angry.
“They got away!” he barks, looking as though he might explode with anger, “Get in the jet!”
If you hadn’t been writhing in pain, you would have let out a sigh of relief. Steve, Sam and Bucky had got away, and no one you cared about had to die. The pain gets so intense that your body gives up, and unconsciousness swallows you.
~~Peter’s POV~~
Peter swings into the scene of the terrorist attack, his eyes immediately searching for you.
“Karen,” Peter calls to his Spider-Man suit A.I., “Find Y/N,”
The screen that was built in his suit highlights a figure, slumped on the ground, “She appears to be unconscious,” the A.I.’s feminine voice informs Peter as his stomach drops.
Peter starts to rush over to you, but is stopped in his tracks as he sees Secretary Ross saunter over and stare down at your motionless body. He flicks his wrist and two agents pick your limb body off the ground and carry you back into the jet.
“Peter,” Karen’s voice sounds, “I suggest that you hang back. You aren’t supposed to be here, you shouldn’t be spotted,”
Peter feels horrible, but he knows the A.I. is right. There wasn’t anything he could do for you this very second, not without getting thrown in the Raft. His shoulders slumps as he watches the jet fire up and take off, leaving the city blocks in ruins.
Peter had let you down again. He only wanted to make things better, but he couldn’t get it right. A heavy hand comes to rest on his shoulder, and Peter glances up to see the Iron-Man suit staring down at him. The Iron-Man mask slides up to reveal Tony.
“I was too late,” Peter mumbles, looking away to avoid his mentor’s stare,
“Me too,” Tony sighs, “But we’re going to make it right,”
“What?” Peter’s head snaps up to look at Tony,
“We’re going to bring your girl home,” Tony announces.

STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY WITH Dyke March Chicago
by Stephanie Skora, Trans Liberation Collective founder Before I say anything else, it is most important to note that the Israeli State began bombing Gaza again last night. Gaza has been limited to only two hours of electricity a day for the past several days, no doubt in a preemptive move to silence news about the bombing. Instead of circling up around Palestinian communities and helping support them during yet another brutal attack on their land and families, many people were calling them antisemites and perpetuating Zionist violence against Palestinians by allowing unfounded and unsupported accusations of antisemitism to gain traction. This is a source of no small amount of disappointment and anger on my part. We, as Jews who claim to be in solidarity with Palestine, must do better.
Let me make myself VERY clear: I am a proud Jewish woman. I am a genderqueer trans woman, a lesbian, and an anti-Zionist. I am nobody’s token, and I find antisemitism in all forms abhorrent. I am in explicit solidarity with the Chicago Dyke March Collective, and support all of their actions, and decisions during the March and at the park afterwards in regards to their removal of three Zionists from the space. I participated in the conversations with, and removal of, those Zionists, and would do the same again if asked. The people in question were kicked out because they were Zionists, were aggressive, and made Palestinian attendees feel unsafe. That is, and will always be, a valid reason to remove someone from a space.
In the interest of centering Palestinian voices in recounting the actual events of that day, I will refer everyone who asks to the forthcoming statement from the Dyke March organizers. The Chicago Dyke March Collective organizers can speak for themselves, and I would encourage everyone to listen to their words, rather than making assumptions based on sources that lack credibility. I will, however, make a statement about the backlash from, and aftermath of, the removal of those Zionists. Many of you have asked my perspective on the events of that day, so please consider this my official statement on the matter.
Dyke March is, very specifically, a space organized by queer and trans people of color, FOR queer and trans people of color, so that they have somewhere safe to go and celebrate themselves during Pride Month. Yes, everyone is welcome at Dyke March as long as they follow the rules of the space and don’t cause any problems, but Dyke March is not designed to be a space for everyone and their assorted feelings about oppressed people.
This year, Dyke March was very, VERY visibly anti-Zionist, and pro-Palestinian. This means a variety of wonderful and necessary things, but it also means that, for attendees, that there are prerequisites to our attendance there. By attending, we are recognizing that we are entering a space that was specifically designed to center and uplift queer and trans Palestinian voices… if that is not something that you can comply with, the solution is simple: don’t go to Dyke March. If, like Ellie Otra, Palestinians make you feel uncomfortable and you “just want to be Jewish in public” but feel the need to assert your presence and privilege even after you’ve been told that Palestinians feel uncomfortable, then don’t come to Dyke March, and go do it somewhere else. If, like Laurel Grauer, you are a known liar, Zionist, racist, and Islamophobe, then don’t come to Dyke March, and go march with A Wider Bridge and/or the Israeli Consulate in Chicago Pride, who I’m sure would be more than happy to have your despicable-ass self in their contingent.
Just to make myself clear: if you are a Zionist, if Palestinians make you feel uncomfortable, or if you work for a horrible, violent, pinkwashing organization, go fuck yourself, and go fuck yourself somewhere other than Dyke March. Just because a space allows you to attend does not mean that the space is FOR you, and to assume that you have a right to come and make people feel unsafe in their own spaces just because you want to be visible in public is the HEIGHT of privilege, White fragility, Jewish feelings, and general fuckery.
It is also important to say something about the role of Jews in explicitly anti-Zionist spaces. Namely, it is never the place of Jews to tell Palestinians how, where, why, and at what they are allowed to feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or traumatized, and in which contexts. Palestinians always have the right to determine the terms of their own safety in their own spaces. Always. It is neither the place, nor the right, of Jews to get all up in our feelings about the reactions of Palestinians to symbols that have been heavily appropriated by the Israeli State and Zionist settlers for the express purpose of eliciting reactions of fear and trauma. Whatever your feelings about the Star of David as a symbol, the reality of the situation is that the violent use of that symbol by the Israeli State has made it inextricably associated with that state, and the violence that it commits. That is OUR problem as Jews, and our feelings about that symbol are to be hashed out amongst ourselves, in Jewish spaces, and not taken out in the form of baseless and violent accusations against Palestinians.
It is absolutely true that the Israeli State has appropriated Jewishness for its own purposes, and perverted the culture and history of a beautiful, proud, and strong people to serve the theocratic, ethno-nationalist interests of a genocidal nation-state. It is absolutely true that Zionism is a form of racism and White Supremacy, mediated through a Jewish context. It is absolutely true that Zionism is an unacceptable political ideology that has no right to be heard, or considered as valid, in any space, but particularly those that center Palestinians. It is absolutely true that Zionism is an ideology that maintains its supremacy through the re-traumatizing of each successive generation of Jews, in attempt to force us into allegiance with the Israeli State. It is absolutely true that Zionism reinforces its power by forcing Jews to exhibit White fragility in response to criticism of Jews, because in the context of Zionism, Jews assume a position of power and privilege that we have not historically occupied.
So, what is the role of Jewish people in anti-Zionist spaces, especially ones organized by Palestinians? I would argue that our role is twofold: 1) To support the labor, organizing, and work of Palestinians as they continue their struggle for liberation from the Israeli State and Zionist ideology, including by educating other Jews about Palestine and Zionism. 2) To link the struggles against antisemitism and anti-Zionism, and to help ensure that one struggle is not weaponized to silence the other.
Why does this look so limited? Because we, as Jews, enter into these spaces (or at least SHOULD be entering into these spaces) as accomplices to the liberatory struggle of the Palestinian people. Zionism is a system of power and control places Jews in a position of privilege vis a vis Palestinians.
This means that when Jews enter an anti-Zionist space, we accept that we are entering it under certain conditions. As beneficiaries of the system of power and control that those spaces were set up to combat and dismantle, we may be held to a higher political standard. We may be required to affirm certain political positions in order to remain in the space. We may be asked certain questions about our politics because of our positions of privilege. And all of those things might feel bad, might hurt our feelings, and might seem really unfair to us… but it is our job to remember, and to remind each other, that our discomfort and hurt feelings at being held to a higher standard is nothing, NOTHING, compared to the genocide, violence, and ethnic cleansing that we are in those spaces to help put to an end. That is our role as accomplices, and privileged people in that space. Other privileged groups of people are treated the same way in social justice spaces, and that is the norm in our corner of society. It is also important to note that if you are arguing that a space that excludes Zionists automatically also excludes Jews in general, then it is YOU who is conflating Zionism and Judaism, not Dyke March.
I would also like to add this, specifically addressing the Jewish people that will see this statement, and in particular those of us who call ourselves anti-Zionist, or Palestine solidarity activists. It is incumbent upon us, in particular, to not participate in this mishegas, and to not heap violence upon Palestinians. It is incumbent upon us to not let our possible previous Zionist brainwashing and existing Jewish fragility and feelings to allow us to grab on the first specious accusations of antisemitism levied against Palestinians by a source that completely lacks credibility. A Wider Bridge, is a known racist, Islamophobic, homophobic, and transphobic organization coming down against Dyke March, which is run entirely by queer and trans people of color, some of whom are Palestinians. Laurel Grauer, a known liar, racist, and Islamophobe, works for A Wider Bridge, and is not credible in any meaningful way on this issue.
It is our job to listen to Palestinians. To not pass judgement on them without hearing their voices. To believe them when they refute or reject accusations made against them. To lift up their voices when they speak their own truths, and give their account of events. It is our job to not give further traction to unfounded or under-supported accusations of antisemitism made against Palestinians, especially when we KNOW that accusations antisemitism have been historically weaponized against Palestinians, and used to silence their voices on vital matters, including affirming their own humanity and safety.
If you, personally, cannot do these things, then I ask you to consider why you cannot believe Palestinians, why you are giving credibility to accusations of antisemitism without knowing all the details, and why you have a right to be considered a Palestine solidarity activist.
That’s all I have to say on the matter for now. I am in explicit solidarity with Chicago Dyke March, and all the organizers in the Chicago Dyke March Collective.
