Being helpful means not sharing unverified shit. It also means not livestreaming as the default. Screaming "La Migra" or "ICE" is not always helpful. (Screaming that, especially if it's not actually a raid, is not only unhelpful but fucking traumatizing for some.)

If you aren't already part of a local immigrant rights group, that's OK. (You are the audience for this post btw.)

Note helpful details, exact date time and location. (Assume someone will read your post without context. Don't just say a neighborhood, say the neighborhood, city, state.) How many vehicles? How many officers, what type of agency is it? Have they finished and they are leaving?

Figure out who your local immigrant rights group is now so if police action starts in your community you know who to follow. Follow the lead of the immigrant rights org / immigrants / undocumented folks in your community. FOLLOW THEIR LEAD! They may say to avoid an area, or they may say to gather for a mass protest. FOLLOW THEIR LEAD! Especially if you do not know any undocumented people.

We know how the Nazis operate. They will love it if there are people re-sharing unverified videos, flooding everyone's feed, and causing mass chaos. Don't be part of the problem.

A plain text message from your verified local immigrant rights org or local immigrant rights lawyer is worth 100x a video without a timestamp with an unclear police action happening. Is the video from 2 days ago? From 2010? 2018?? 2024??

(And yes, ICE didn't start actions this month, they have been at work destabilizing our communities for years. And in their prior form INS, for longer than that. And yes, under both Republicans and Democrats. Undocumented people have been living with the threat of ICE for a long time. Not to say the threat isn't higher under Trump, but if you are brand new concerned about this, trust that not everyone impacted feels the same way.)

If you are documenting a past action that is now over then be clear about that when you share it. This is gonna be a helluva time for people already on edge.

Provide your source. Verify that it's real. Record as many details as you can. DO NOT SHARE INFO IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE SOURCE. This goes double for videos.
