You had done cheer since you could remember. Elementary, middle school, basketball, competition and football cheer, even to your freshman year of high-school.

That all changed though when you had been claimed by your godly parent. You figured only a summer at camp would be sufficient and you could go back to your old school and continue cheer! That back fired however After a group of monsters attack a cheer camp you went too.

You didn’t mind at first, giving up the sport. But now sitting on your bed holding your old cheer uniform you couldn’t help but miss the sport. Some of your favorite memories were made in it after all.

An idea soon came to you however. If you put it on and did a few tricks it wouldn’t hurt right..?. Only one way to find out.

A little tight around the chest, and the skirt was much smaller than you last remembered, the uniform still fit perfectly. Throwing on a pair of white tennis shoes and pulling your hair back into a signature ponytail with a bow you ran out your cabin.

The arena was empty as most campers were off playing capture the flag, conveniently your ‘ankle still hurt’ so you were allowed to sit out.

You let out a deep breath and adjusted your grip on your pompoms. Mentally prepping yourself before counting off. “1-2.. 1234——

The feeling of doing an old cheer brought back an old sense of adrenaline. You shook your pompoms above your head with a wide smile.

“V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!

We're gonna win the game

And you wanna know why?

And we're riding high, so

Tossing the pompoms aside you let out a deep breath. Doing a round off back hand spring while sticking the landing you panted. It had been a while since you had last some the tricks showing you were out of practice.

In the distance you heart a slow clapping. Looking over nervously you saw clarisse sitting on the bench near by you. “Why didn’t you ever tell me I was dating a cheerleader? I mean damn there’s something’s I’d like to brag about” she teased making her way over to you, grabbing your waist and admiring your uniform

“You brag to much as it is you don’t need another thing to add to that list” you gave her a slight unamused look. “And by your good attitude I take it you won?”

Clarisses grin confirmed your suspicions. She kissed you, once again squeezing your waist slightly. “Yeah you definitely won” you smiled.

“Obivously, you really think I was just gonna let annabeth embarrass my cabin again? No fucking way— ” with one final squeeze to your waist Clarisse started to lead you out of the arena.

You tried to stop her mainly because of how exposed you were in your uniform but the other woman didn’t seem to really care.

At a risk of being controversial: I really dont enjoy the fanon trope of making Hylia a villain. I dont claim people who do that are evil or sexist, there's obivous writing potential there and people are allowed to explore it. I personally however find it uncomfortable, and I want to speak out in case someone else feels the same and would be relieved to not be alone.

Hylia as a character is a ...fairly new addition to franchise. We first learn of her in skyward sword, a game that's story aims to explain the reincarnation cycle's excistence.

I think due to that, and how in botw we see the first canon story that potrays the cycle as bad, its easy for new and old fans to point at hylia and go: I dont trust this. (It doesnt help Hylia is connected to vague christian imaginary and people have their own issues with religion.)

Again I dont blame people for this, some fans are new, some are coping with religious trauma, and some just wanna explore the cool concept that is reincarnating heroes.

However, my discomfort comes from a few facts in this matter that I want to put out there for people to consider.

My first issue is that Hylia is not the person who started the issue. We know the evil force that is Demise existed before the cycle, and for some reason or another Hylia nor the other goddesses could not stop him. Hylia made her plan in order to seal demise away for good, and it didnt work. It just didn't work.

It doesnt matter if demise cursed the reincarnation thing or if Hylia decided it'd repeat forever. The fact is that theres a malicious unquestionably evil force that a goddess tried to stop and failed.

You can dislike her plan all you want, but hindsight is 20/20 and all that—

Okay, breather, I am passionate about this but I know my opinion isnt the objective fact. Maybe Hylia could stop this cycle and try something else, maybe she is inhuman in mind and spirit and doesnt comprehend the horrors she has caused. We don't know and you can fill these blanks as you see fit.

But uhm, this does bring me to my second opinion, which might be harder to take seriously it you're disagreeing with this post already.

I think there's sexism around how fans treat Zelda and Hylia, not helped at all by Nintendo's own actions.

I see people be put off by skyward sword Zelda, perhaps writing her unemphatic and clueless of Link's battles to find her. So much so that we ignore the fact she too was ripped from home, told she has to be someone else, and forced to drag her best friend along so the world wouldnt end. She is a victim too, but why do we forget this?

In my opinion it's partly due to the bad writing of women Nintendo keeps doing. Zelda is written so... perfect. Nintendo refuses to aknowledge her flaws as a person and instead is like look how pretty she is, she apologises and Link forgives her, so you should too! ...When, if you dont do so, it feels like you're being manipulated or dismissed whenever she is on screen.

An issue that repeats with Hylia as well. With many Zeldas in many games.

To react to that tonal dissonance with writing Zelda/Hylia as evil is... normal, I think. I don't blame people for feeling that way.

But,, That seems unfair to me. A female character with potential to be complex and good was failed by the writers, and now we as fans continue from that point with making her even worse.

I dont dislike fans who do this, you're just participating in fandom the way you see fit, but I cant enjoy it, it makes me upset. These women are not evil, Link isn't the only character being hurt deeply, and if you could please consider female characters beyond how they hurt ya boy, I'd be so relieved.

I'll repeat what I said at the start, I dont claim people who do this are evil or sexist. People are having fun in fandom, and ngl demise sucks as a villain and Hylia is way more interesting to explore.

I just... I think its worth asking yourself why her. Why you don't or do like Zelda. Engaging in things you love with an analytic eye is genuinely good for you and the media you're enjoying.

This in no means is meant to come off as an attack, Im just requesting we look at another angle of things, maybe just to say we did.

Consider: Bungou Stray Dogs

Injuries and other stuff, featuring Dad!Mori!! Yay! Dazai still sometimes speaks to Mori, but it is rare, and they are chill, but still kinda hate each other.

The ADA has game nights to promote good partnership and stuff, they do like Mario Kart, Just Dance, etc. (also they don’t know he’s ex-mafia, just cause I love that au)

The thing is, no one expected Dazai to be so goddamn good at everything, he can crush anyone at Mario Kart and he can play any game with extreme skill.

When they finally give up on trying to beat him in fighting games, they tried literally everything else.

Finally they give up, they’ll never beat Dazai in combat game, so they decide to start something new. Just Dance.

When Ranpo loads up the game they are shocked. Dazai is still kicking their asses, EVEN ON THE JUST DANCE KIDS SONGS. How? They’ll never know

UNTIL, a certain shortie shows up, bleeding and sick on game night.

At first, everyone is confused, because they don’t know the red headed person covered in blood who came into their office.

Dazai seems to reconize him.

The red-head the collaspes on the floor, bleeding out on the rug.

Dazai looks pale and concerned, “...Chibi?”

Dazai’s confused, why the fuck is the chibi here and why did he collapse. Why is he covered in blood. The wheel is spinning in Dazai’s head but the hamster is dead.

The ADA member’s (aside from Dazai) are trying to figure out who this man is, why he’s bleeding, and how Dazai knows him.

The man, Chibi, was is bad shape, obivously enough.

Dazai runs over to the man’s body, Yosano close behind.

Yosano is able to heal him, and Dazai never once moves from Chuuya’s sleeping form, always touching him, be it holding his hand running or his fingers through Chuuya’s hair.

When Chuuya finally awakes, about 2 hours later, the first thing out of Dazai’s mouth is teasing, an attempt to keep Chuuya from knowing how worried he was about him.

Dazai excuses himself quietly, and he walks out of the room, back into the lounge area.

Around him people jump up, ready to ask if he’s okay.

Shushing them, Dazai dials a number he wishes he didn’t have to for anything other than a chat again.

“Hey Mori,” Dazai says, sounding more broken than he ever has, voice almost a sob.

“Dazai, what’s going on,” Mori’s Dad Mode™ is turned on immediately, “Talk to me, focus on my voice. Now, can you tell my what’s happening?”

“Chuuya’s here... he showed up a few hours ago in critcal condition. I don’t know what to do, I never thought I would have to see him like this again,” a sob comes from Dazai.

“I’m on my way, hold on”

The phone beeps as Mori hangs up.

The ADA member are floored. Dazai showing proper emotions and crying about the man. Also, THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE!? Is he okay?

Then, a man, a girl, and a woman all show up.

Dazai smiles, “Ane-san, didn’t expect you to be here.”

“How many times have I told you not to call me that brat?” the woman, Ane-san, says no malice in her voice.

“Um, who are these people Dazai?” Atsushi asks.

“Mori, my adopted dad, Ane-san or Kouyou, my adopted sister, don’t deny it, and Elise, Mori’s ablity, daughter, thing. We don’t ask,”

Though all of the adults look put together, but Elise looks ready to throw a fit or cry. She’s hard to read.

Mori walks over to Dazai, pulling him into a tight hug.

Dazai wilts, no one’s ever seen him so dejected before.

Mori has and knows that Dazai needs an anchor to keep him down an dput together.

Kouyou pats his head before proceeding to go into the room where Chuuya is.

After the hug finishes, Mori walks to join her, Doctor Mode activated.

Once Mori remerges, he nods reassuringly at Dazai, who had taken to playing with Elise to distract himself.

Mori sees the open case to Just Dance and a small smile graces his face.

“You used to make obscene bets with Chuuya over video games,” he muses out loud, “This was the only one you could never win at.”

Fin.

And that how I snuck dad!mori and others on ya, adding in some angst.

What steps would you take in order to track down a thief? Not too far, honestly. I accept things pretty easily so if I’ve processed that I’ve been robbed, I am most likely to just let it go. I’ll feel like shit, of course, but I would just let it go and scold myself for failing to be attentive.

What is something that one of your family member collects? My mom used to collect printed table napkins from different restaurants, but obivously she hasn’t been able to continue that for the past year and a half. My dad and brother used to collect magazines but both stopped a few years ago.

What would you do if you were able to have lunch with the queen? The journalist in me will probably just ask her questions about her everyday life, how she spends it, what she’s into and what she’s not into these days.

If you got to create a new flavor of ice cream, what would it be? This is a little hard considering there are a lot of small businesses out there already getting creative and quirky with ice cream flavors so it’s just hard to tell if a certain flavor has already been invented or not. One thing I haven’t seen, though, is curry. I’d buy a pint of that in an instant.

What are some questions that you would ask your favorite celebrity? His latest vlog finds. He once shared a video of this smaller content creator, so I’m guessing that’s what he likes doing in his spare time and I’m sure he would have a bunch of other just as interesting recommendations.

If you were able to set up a stand, what would you sell? Street food.

Would you like to go deep sea diving? Why or why not? Yeah. I’m always willing to try daring, not-the-safest-thing-in-the-world activities haha.

What would life be like if you lived on a cloud? The realist in me just wants to say I’d plummet straight to the ground.

What would you find at the top of a magic beanstalk? Idk, my creativity can’t be bothered to be challenged.

What is one food you would not want to have rain down from the sky? Durian. It would hurt and stink like shit.

What is something important that you've lost, and did you ever find it? I lost a rosary that came straight from the Vatican. No, I never found it again. I feel bad about it not because it’s a religious object, but because it came from my grandma.

Have you ever moved to a new school before? If so, how did it feel? I mean, I had to change schools when I was moving up from high school to college, but I’ve never changed schools within the same chapter of my studies, like in the middle of elementary or high school. But to answer the question, it had been a very liberating and empowering experience. I hated the rules in my Catholic school and there were so many elements from that place that made me hide so much about myself. The fact that I could wear shorts and curse and attend rallies and cut class and make my own class schedules in college felt incredibly freeing and satisfying.

If you had one day to do anything at all, what would you choose? I would drive to Tagaytay and find a cozy restaurant and eaaaaatttt awaaaayyyy.

Have you ever legitimately forgotten to do homework? All the time. I never wrote down homework.

If you were a witch, what kind of a spell would you cast? On who? I don’t care about casting spells on people. I just want my cravings to show up in the snap of a finger hahaha. Can that be part of a witch’s scope of work? Kjdgfhsdfskjfhs

Do you enjoy autumn leaves or spring flowers more? Why? I wouldn’t know. I experience neither over here.

What is your favorite sport to play? What about watch? Table tennis. Favorite to watch would be either tennis or pro wrestling.

Have you ever gone on a cruise before? To where? Yeah. It was an East Asian cruise so I traveled to Shanghai, Jeju, and Fukuoka.

What would you do if you were invisible for a day? Probably go to the bigger houses in the village and see how fancy they get.

Depending on where you live, why might a day of school get canceled? Typhoon, floods. A lot of places are incredibly prone to flooding, so as long as it’s been raining super hard the chances for a class suspension will get high.

What types of transportation do you think we will see in the future? I dunno. It seems like we’re at that point where everything is in the process of being invented or perfected already.

What were some of your toys you always played with when you were little? I liked kitchen sets and anything with lots of buttons, so like toy telephones or cash registers.

If you were a movie star, what would a day in your life be like? I have no clue apart from the fact that I’m just glad I would assumedly have more than enough money to buy whatever I’m craving whenever I want hahaha.

If you invented a time machine, what year would you like to go to, and why? Realistically I wouldn’t change a thing; but if I had to answer this question I’d go back to 2016 and never ask out Gab a second time, so that the next four years wouldn’t end up being such a waste of my time.

What is your favorite holiday and why? I don’t have one. I’m not a big holiday ~celebrator.

What is something that you like to do while on vacation? Try food I’ve never tried before. The more unconventional or obscure, the better.

If you could meet any fictional character from a book, who would it be? Eh, don’t really have anyone in mind.

What are some common places that people tour when they come to your city? There’s the waterfalls in the upper part of the city – I’m just not sure if it’s still a popular spot but it certainly was when I was a kid. There’s also an art museum that I’m certain is a lot more frequented now.

What's one food that you did not enjoy as a child, but do as an adult? Curry.

How would having no electricity affect your daily routine? I wouldn’t be able to attend work, at least not for the whole day. It would also feel a lot warmer without the electric fan, which would in turn make me cranky.

If you had one wish, what would it be? A renovated room with a dedicated corner for all my merch.

Say someone gives you a magic sweater. What happens when you wear it? Idk.

If you built a new city, how would you convince people to move there? I wouldn’t.

What is one of your favorite movies? Why is it one of your favorites? Two for the Road. It has Audrey Hepburn, it’s a realistic rom-com, and the chemistry between the two leads is superb.

If you were given a certain amount of time to live, would you want to know? Yeah for sure, I would want to know in a heartbeat.

What would you do if you were able to stop time? I don’t know what I would do, but that would be a nice...opportunity, I guess? to experiment with or try out certain decisions and see how well or unwell they would work out to be. So that when time resumes, I’d know better on how to best handle a situation.

Do you think that long distance relationships would be for you? I wouldn’t actively go for it, but I’m not shutting down the possibility either.

Is there a popular social media platform that you don't have an account for? I have one for all the main ones, I think. Even Instagram, I made an account not too long ago to finally join the platform.

How old were you when you found out about Santa, the Easter Bunny, etc? I never knew the Easter Bunny was a thing until I started taking these surveys at like 14. I never really believed in Santa either, and the only figure I was super disappointed to learn that it didn’t exist was the tooth fairy.

Who is your favorite Disney Princess? Rapunzel.

Which freaks you out more - clowns or porcelain dolls? Porcelain dolls. They look more innocent, which somehow makes them creepier.

What was the last mistake that you learned from? Hm, just a minor work thing that would be too complicated to explain here.

Do you prefer "regular pencils" or mechanical ones? Why? Regular. I always break off the tips of mechanical pencils.

What is one little-known music artist you'd recommend? Andi made me listen to The Drums recently and I’ve been loving their sound so far; they would be perfect on a road trip. I’ve only listened to one album, though.

Where were you on September 11th, 2001? I don’t know...probably already being put to bed. Either way I wasn’t fully conscious yet as I had only been 3 and living on the other side of the planet.

Could you handle a friends with benefits type of situation? Not for me. I’m not even into sex.

At what age do you believe children should begin having screen time? I’m not too sure at this point, but I do know I don’t plan on being too strict with my kids. I’d let them watch stuff on an iPad from like age 3 or 4, but one thing I would change from how I was raised is putting a limit on their screen time, maybe half an hour to an hour a day.

If you had to give a speech, what would it be on? I’d be down for any topic as long as I was given ample time to research, honestly. I like public speaking.

DOG DAYS ARE OVER : CHAP 2

AN: Hi guys, I’m posting this earlier than I planned because I’m going on a trip abroad for a week. I will continue writing but I won’t post during that period. So I’m leaving you with this smol chapter!

In this part we’re finally taking an interest in Jake. And I so love Josh being a huge flirt, it’s really easy writing about him because he’s so talkative and expressive.

I know it’s really small but chapter 3 will make it up for it trust me.

Chapter two : Here comes the quiet one.

Days passed by and we kept sending each others ridiculous notes. No more contests of the worst pick up lines nor salacious jokes, we started actually chatting. Well not actually but you get the point. It was fun, talking to Josh. He was kind of the highlight of our week, breaking our class routine with his silly, imprevisible one. We only shared two lectures, Art History and General Knowledge (which were pretty much the same), for a total of four hours a week, and I never thought I'd be enjoying these classes. I even found myself looking forward to the next lecture we had together, counting the days. It sounded very silly and yet it was true.

But the more I kept looking his way, the more something entirely else was taking space on my mind. It all started when we were exchanging notes per usual (or more precisely, doodles), and my eye caught sight of the person sitting next to Josh. Always sitting next to Josh. We both knew he was his brother, I mean they literally have the same face, it's no coïncidence. Something about him was bugging me. I couldn't really explain it, it was the fact that despite his brother and us having fun and getting to know one another through notes, he never did anything to talk to us or at least introduced himself. Was that really weird, or was it just my ego talking ? Sure we weren't as studious as him but still... the thought kept popping on my mind.

That's how I began watching him.

He was always very quiet, rarely moved his eyes from the teacher and his notebook, and his face was so stoic he could have been a greek statue. I knew from the start it was a risky game I was playing at and that eventually it'll have consequences, but I couldn't help myself from looking. It happened fast, dangerously so. It all started out of curiosity. Why doesn't he talk to us ? Are we boring ? Do we annoy him ? Are we making too much noise ? But we're just writing and sometimes quietly giggling. Not understanding got me thinking a lot and at some point, I got more focused on him than the lecture (not that it was difficult) or Josh and Mandy.

Resting my chin on my fist, with my body slightly turned to the left, I was staring at glimpses of him, hidden behind Josh, when a paper ball landed into my eye.

- Ouch !

It fell lightly on the wooded floor and I winced, placing a hand on the side of my face. I could already felt my eye watering as it stung a little. Josh looked so apologetic, with his mouth the form of a perfect O et his hands frozen in their movement, I couldn't be mad at him, accidents happened.

- You alright ? Do you want some water to put on your eye or something ?

- I'm good, I assured Mandy with a small smile.

It was our fault for being silly instead of studying, and probably God's punishment for my intrusive and slightly obsessional behavior towards Kiszka number 2. As my eyes were watering to heal the intrusion, my nose began running and I sniffled. And believe it or not, with all the dumb things we did on a weekly basis, it was that one little thing that caught his attention. The brunette was lost in his thoughts when he heard it, and seemed to snap out of it before turning his head to my direction, his gaze unreadable. I'd like to think he was feeling concerned about me but the truth is I couldn't read his reaction at all. He tapped Josh's shoulder before whispering something to his hear. It was funny how Josh's expression changed when his brother started talking to him. He went instantly serious, nodding before turning to him to speak face to face. The teacher's voice in the amphitheater covered their voices and I couldn't read lips. Mandy offered me a tissue just as the bell rang, and my teary eye followed Josh's brother's silhouette until he disappeared behind the door.

- Don't you think it's weird ?, I suddenly asked.

- I don't know, she replied honestly with a sigh, I'm not a doctor, but it seems pretty normal to me-

I shook my head, gently pushing his hand off my face as she had began to look very intently at my red eye.

- Not my eye, dumbass. Josh's brother.

- What about him ? We don't talk to him.

The students were quick to desert this classroom to go to their next lecture so we hurriedly stuffed our bags while talking, practically running on the stairs to flee from the teacher. We couldn't afford to push our luck with her, we both got the feeling that if we stayed in her sight for too long she'll start scolding us.

- Exactly my point !, I exclaimed while zigzag-ing my way between students. We're kinda friends with his bro, or so I guess we are ?, and he just... doesn't make any move.

- I don't know, maybe you're reading too much into it ? You keep staring at him maybe you freaked him out or something.

As we went pass the cafeteria, averting students running down the hallway, I could feel my cheeks burning. Of course she had noticed. She made a stop for the vending machine, fumbling to find some change and dropping her bags on the colored floor tile in the process. Sighing, I laid my back against the drinks dispenser. So I was that obivous.

- Do you think I fucked up ?

- I think, she said while sticking a cold soda to my forehead, that you should start by asking him his name.

As always, she was right. But I didn't told her that a lot or else I'd hear about it for weeks. We didn't even know his name. Sure at some point we must've heard it, like on the first day or something, when everybody introduced theirselves and stuff. But we were 40 or so, and they weren't in our department so we unconsciously figured it was useless to remember his name...

I'll have to ask Josh without looking like a total weirdo.

Ye Xiu sighed as he was pushed into learning about Reddit. Ever since the Alliance had managed to gain popularity during its second season, there was a greater focus on advertising that he couldn't quite understand. Pro Gamers, usually seen as lazy, unemployed people were now being thrown into the spotlight and even though he had thus far managed to avoid being forced into doing anything, his luck had apparently run out.

Unlike other interviews and sponsorship meetings that he could get out of by paying a fee, this new Social Media thing was apparently important enough to force changes. Wang Shi, the Chairman himself, had come all the way to Excellent Era and begged him to take part, even offering incentives that he knew Ye Qiu couldn't ignore.

No fees for interviews? Done.

No fees for Sponsorship meetings? Done.

But it was the final two incentives offered by Tao Xuan himself that Ye Xiu had faltered for.

Ownership of both Dancing Rain and Autumn Tree[1] if he answered questions and gained a minimum of 100 asks.

And so, that was how, Ye Xiu found himself in front of a computer, not playing Glory for once but patiently listening to Wu Xuefeng explains the ins and outs of a social media site—

"Do you understand, Captain?" Wu Xuefeng asked leaning back in his chair.

Ye Xiu nodded and watched his vice-captain leave to go lecture Qin Tianran and Xue Mingkai both of whom were starting to fight again.

Moving his mouse to the AMA question email inbox, Ye Xiu started scrolling through the questions already submitted. To his surprise, there was far more than a dozen, or even a hundred. Glancing to his left, he was shocked to see the 999+ hovering by the inbox. He had never thought he would get so many questions, rubbing his eyes, he got to work.

It was going to be a long night.

I once told one of my family members I was going to play professionally. I ignored the next five minutes of him telling me to go home. Most reactions are negative. The only positive reaction I had was from a friend. Never found anyone romantically because I was too busy winning championchips.

That first post is like a spark that seemed to set off everyone in the Glory community. Other pros were weighing in and forums everywhere were exploding as users were screen shotting their questions, most beyond shocked that the highly elusive and rare God of Glory was actually communicating. Wiki pages once so bare of data of the most powerful and shadowy existence that was the battle god were quickly edited and re-edited as more and more answers begun appearing on Reddit.

The moment that the news went viral, the newspapers were filled with information, and before long even more and more questions started being sent to Ye Xiu, to the complete shock of Wang Shi and Tao Xuan, both of whom knew that Ye Qiu had a following the Glory community but neither of them knew it was anything like this.

Already, Ye Qiu's AMA was trending on Weibo and nearly every social site that was even remotely popular, and yet no one was asking him to unmask. It was mind boggling because Ye Qiu thought that would be one of the only questions he would receive, and yet from all the hundreds of questions he answered, it had only appeared a few times.

Unfortunately, even though he had met his goal in the first few hours of his posts, the number of questions in his box was still exploding.

How was he ever going to finish this mess?

Thankfully, he didn't have to wait long as after Tao Xuan made some calls to the PR group they had on retainer for situations like this. Based on their information and a suitable recommendation, Ye Xiu was given an assistant to help streamline the process, so that instead of him having to type everything manually he could do other things, such as captain his team.

The assistant was incredibly efficient and moved several questions over to a new thread that was due to open in the new week, while she deleted a large number of rather misleading, or crude questions. She worked with him, while he sat at the computer, or at his desk typing up comments to questions.

And so, Ye Xiu thought that was the end of it.

He was wrong.

[1] In this fanfiction Tao Xuan had kept Autumn Tree and he had just been waiting for YX to purchase it back from him. However, even at rock bottom prices, YX was having problems getting the money together while being fined and taking care of Su Mucheng. In addition, as this fanfic takes place during Season 3, I headcanon that Su Mucheng is finishing up in the EE Training camp and her card was purchased (Though I don't know if this is actually a thing that happens.)

[2] Unlike other Reddit thread Ye Qiu is answering questions after the fact, instead of during a time slot like is normally done. I don't know if this possible, or under what circumstances, but here it is.

hi! i’m currently struggling with the summary for my fic like i don’t want to make it boring with barley anything but i also don’t wanna i reveal everything (did that even make sense¿) any advice?

(this was sent weeks ago and im so sorry it took me so long to respond!!)

right ok so, when i write a summary, in the first summary i make sure to introduce the main character especially. (im gonna use clueless, morningstar, and ruby ruby as an example) (the only reason im using a few is bc i want to show that there are lots of different ways of writing a summary, it really depends on the story)

this is super long so read under the cut xo

CLUELESS: OK, SO, BRIAR CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH — she did not mean to act out the second she stepped foot in Beauxbatons, her grandparents deciding that Hogwarts (for ‘reasons unknown’) was no longer good enough for her and her little brother. She did not mean to find out that her grandparents had forced her and her brother out of the country to avoid them from meeting their father, who had become the newest D.A.D.A. professor… Nor did she mean to get so angry by this that she, well, gave her best friends a run for their money. Fireworks lighting up the dining hall, statues transfigured to resemble David Bowie — everything she remembered her best friends talking about doing, she did, putting her own twist on it (hence David Bowie… and Freddie Mercury… and ABBA…)

MORNINGSTAR: HERE’S THE DEAL — Isabelle Oswald is, sort-of, a changeling. The daughter of the devil given to a human man, a rich lawyer in the Upper East Side, who couldn’t have another kid. Her best friend Riley says that it isn’t really a changeling, more like a demon, but anyway. All Isabelle knows is that she’s pretty much a vampire, swap the blood-sucking for a general need to feed off of energy. And she supposes that’s where her 'birth name’ came from, Moroi Morningstar, but again, whatever. The main issue on the table isn’t so much Isabelle’s weird, but rather, Isabelle doesn’t have to be evil, so she isn’t going to — like, sure, her birth father was a fallen angel, but that doesn’t mean she is. It’s the same as those creeps that are half-angel. (The only saint she needs is Laurent, thanks!)

RUBY, RUBY: RUBY SULLIVAN likes to do the right thing — and she knows this sounds like bullshit, what with associating herself with Carol and Tommy, but for some reason her best friend Steve likes them and that’s enough for her to stomach them. But she likes to do good. Her dad always says stuff about karma and Ruby hopes that if she’s good to the world, the world will be good back… And by “good back,” she means that she’ll get into a good college, or at least find a way to escape Hawkins… And maybe, along the way, Ruby will be able to finally stand up for herself…

so in the first paragraph, i’ve introduced the main character and the situation that they’re in. it’s not so much the actual plot, but like, it’s some background on the character and what’s going on, and also it gives the readers an idea of where the story’s going to start. also, if when you’re writing about what’s going on with your character, if you can find the opportunity to mention other details

“the newest D.A.D.A. professor” = remus is briar’s dad, and “her best friends a run for their money” = if you’re a fan of hp you can gather she’s friends with the twins

“she’s pretty much a vampire” then the specifics introduce isabelle’s powers, and the description about her dad and her origin also explain what’s going on. also, you’re introduced to her best friend riley, and although she’s introduced anyway in the actual story and you don’t need to introduce every single character, riley is important and by having her in the intro puts some emphasis on that

“likes to do the right thing” so ok you know ruby’s motivation already, but also the fact that she’s friends with carol, tommy, and steve. with “escape hawkins” and “stand up for herself,” you can also gather that in this story, you’re gonna have a character that wants to leave her hometown and wants to stand up for themselves (a lot of this does focus more on my next point tho)

then, this is optional, but if possible, you can introduce the character’s personality and, uh, character. obviously this depends on your writing style and whether or not when you’re writing the summary you can add it in without it sound strange, but if possible, introduce the readers to your character. (it’s not like u want them to read a whole story about them)

examples:

from clueless you can gather that briar’s rebellious but also what music she likes. tbh this summary doesn’t show this point as much as the others but that’s okay!! sometimes one summary will have lots of background or introducing the character’s personality and sometimes it won’t!! it depends on the story you’re writing!!

for izzy however, you can get her personality. the informal language (”kid,” “blood-sucking,” “those creeps”) kinda give the sense that izzy’s the opposite of serious, and again that sort of language in a way shows izzy’s age a little? also, the same goes with the “but whatever,” and “but anyway.” like izzy as a character is quite carefree and bubbly. and then, with “the only saint she needs is laurent, thanks!” introduces a couple of things: izzy makes remarks, izzy is rich (bc she’s mentioning a luxury brand like it’s a brand she’s accustomed to), and izzy can be materialistic. like. the only saint she needs is laurent. she’s what madonna was singing about in material girl likeee

with ruby it’s a lot more obivous, and also a lot more stressed? so like in the intro to ruby ruby it shows: ruby wants to do the right thing (so her morals), ruby’s an optimistic character (”she hopes”), and she wants to stand up for herself. because with ruby ruby, the full introduction introduces all of the sullivans, the paragraph for each character was sort of more “yo this is this one” and much less of “this is the full story.” for ruby ruby, the full story’s introduced a lot more in the final paragraph

normally when i write a introduction i stick to two paragraphs and then maybe one sentence right at the end, which often becomes the short summary for the full thing. so in the second paragraph, i introduce the plot. not all of it, but enough to get a reader interested.

CLUELESS: But things take a turn at the end of the school year, when Madame Maxime pulls her aside and informs her of the Triwizard Tournament, a game where Beauxbatons competes against Durmstrang Institute and Hogwarts. And, in the words of Madame Maxime herself — “the school will burn down if I leave you here, so, you are coming, too.”

Fair enough.

MORNINGSTAR: The thing is, though — Isabelle doesn’t want to become a superhero. There are lots of other ways to improve the world, and if anything, she wishes she could keep her powers as hidden as possible. But, when things start to go upside down, it becomes a lot less difficult to stay secret. More and more monsters begin cropping up in her side of the woods, girls from her high school are disappearing left, right, and centre, with the explanation of “We want Morningstar” — and to top it off, her heart skips a beat every time she runs into the kid called Spiderman, even though they’ve managed to be on opposite ends of the civil war between the Avengers…

Life’s hard when you’re the devil’s daughter.

RUBY, RUBY: So when Will Byers goes missing, both Ruby and Lisa are thrown into the deep end. Whilst Ruby’s helping his older brother Jonathan, Lisa’s forced to speak to her own friends again, upon noticing the weird girl that she and Ruby helped escape from the restaurant earlier that week. And now, both girls are living up to their parents’ life lesson of “the most important thing is being good,” even if it means they’re hurtling towards the life their parents escaped from all those years ago…

normally it starts with, “so when this happens,” and it won’t introduce all of the plot, but it’ll introduce part of it.

like, with clueless, in the intro you learn that briar’s going back to hogwarts. you don’t know she becomes a werewolf, you don’t know that she starts to have doubts about preferring hogwarts to beauxbatons, a lot of the plot is unknown, but there’s still enough for a reader to like the sounds of it, and keep on reading.

same with morningstar. it carries on the explaining from the first paragraph but then, you find out that monsters are appearing (but not which ones) and that girls are going missing because someone wants isabelle, but you don’t know why. the stuff’s introduced, in enough detail for a reader to be interested, and then i introduced the love interest. like your readers don’t need to know every single detail off the bat, just enough to be interested

then with ruby ruby. ruby and her little sister are going to be involved with the main story in stranger things. you know who they’ll be hanging out with, but you don’t really know why, nor do you know the rest of the details. at the end i mentioned that their parents were connected with the upside down at one point, but you don’t know what they actually did. just that they were involved. it’s just enough for the reader to be like, “oh shit” and want to read the actual chapters

so, in summary:

introduce your character (because it’s that kid that’s gonna attract readers at the end of the day)

introduce the plot but not in much detail. just enough for readers to be intrigued

make sure the intro reflects upon the story like,,,, don’t give me a fun introduction when the actual story is sad and serious u know

i know it’s super difficult to actually write a summary but i try to keep things in mind when i’m writing mine. like i always want to make sure that the introduction properly reflects upon the story and the character. and again, a lot of the stuff i talked about i don’t make sure to include, it’s more like, i’ll be conscious of the words i’m using when i’m writing it. also a lot of my intros are pretty informal but that’s because my narrative style’s definitely influenced by reading too much meg cabot and lisi harrison when i was little lmao

also!! when you’re writing a summary don’t be afraid to have a look at others. like don’t copy them but look at how different people have written them. like even with three of mine, there’s some variety. there’s no harm in reading others to get a feel of what to write yourself

Okay so I just finished up listening to the Taz: balance thing. What a ride.

I’ll put thoughts under the cut, mostly for myself since I doubt anyone is following me for random thoughts on a bunch of guys playing dnd.

(Obivously spoilers)

I really liked all the main adventures, not counting the gerblin one because I could barely focus on anything that was happening due to a lack of investment and having yet to realize who’s voice was who (Not to mention ADD)

Jenkins was a great villain with how done he was with everything. His lack of humour was such a nice contrast to the boys and I loved it. The way he died too, just perfection. I was laughing almost everytime he showed up.

Angus was a bit less interesting, but I knew he was gonna appear later on so I enjoyed him as sort of a starting point and less a cool fully done character mcgoo.

After that I don’t have much other stuff to say really, expect that Petals to Metal(s? Too tired to check) had a really nice? amount of stuff to do? I thought the whole climbing a skyscraper was gonna be the whole thing and it was very boring (Although hearing a tree scream about losing it’s butt was the most hilarious thing in the whole podcast for me.)

But then they started disguising and sneaking around, riding a car, it was great. Although I couldn’t enjoy really any of the battles in the whole podcast because I just couldn’t focus on them at all, so the whole “fighting all the other competitors” went way longer than I was hoping for it to.

Then that frEAKING RED ROBE came in, and I was immediately hooked for the whole podcast. Like before it I had listened to it occasionally but then I started marathoning it. Mostly because I had seen so many spoilers already, and knew that this guy was gonna be the beloved Barry boy.The crystal kingdom was amazing because I have some weird obsession with evil pink crystals. Also just the whole scenario was exciting!! and fun!! Great time. I miss Boyland.

Eleventh hour happened, the bank breaking adventure was honestly the best part and the rest isn’t something I’d relisten to. I loved the dark elf (Ren? Was that her name?) very much.

Wonderland was amazing a definite favourite. I feel like it could’ve used a lot more suffering, and variety (The main cycle was rather boring and the dating game was a good step towards betterness but it ultimately felt a bit underwhelming for a gameshow done by two very extra liches), but it was very good.

Now back to mr. Barry boy,,,, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have this issue with most stories, (which I am sure many can relate to) that they tend to spark my imagination. When I listen to a story, I can’t avoid coming up with my own… version of it, so to speak, as it goes on. And based on the fanart I had seen, I was thinking the world of this journey was gonna be one with a froggoten century? Where tech was cooler, and the Ipre(Did I get that right? I dislike it when people don’t check these things since you can just google them but I’m a hypocrite it seems and I should avoid judging people next time.) was a cool gang of these cool people who made the relics and it was great and awesome and what a great universe we live in right now. Then there’s like a relic war and it all goes to the pooper and Lucertia takes their memories and the world sort of… starts a new.

And I have to admit, what actually happened lended a lot more freedom and space to connect the dots, but it was sort of a … I’m gonna call it a trope, that I’m not very fond of.

I like the feeling of home, being close, excisting on a time gap we can relate to (unless you’re going to explore what being super old would mean) and I don’t enjoy leaving Hogwarts. That is to say that whenever a story throws me out of the familiar, well developed nice comfort zone, without somekind of anchor to hold onto (That being the main 3 for most of the arcs) I get uninvested.

And that doesn’t make the story bad. Not at all, it just makes it not be my kind of thing. Which sucks, because pretty much everything else was just my kind of thing.

I’m not very good at putting complex webs of thoughts into words, so I’ll explain this again but with different wording.

I enjoyed the main arcs, because I knew the three boys and could comftorably follow their progress. There was a tight rhythm for the arcs and each part added to the world so I could slowly feel very invested.

Then the Stolen century appears, and it becomes very detached. We only see snippits into what happened during A VERY LONG TIME. These characters became strangers. They were familiar to each other, possibly the McElroys, but not for me. I wasn’t there to watch those bonds form.

I would’ve focused on the ship itself more, and what happened in there. Make that ship a home, a place to return to. And make the time lapse shorter. 100 years is a very long time, and I can’t see why it was necessary, other than that it did make it all seem far… greater, more massive. Which is great if that’s what kind of stories you like. I’m a very people person, I want stories about people and their emotions, I want stories one a small relatable scale, where we can understand them. That’s just me, and I am used to not getting that story.

I knew there was gonna be a boss fight in the end, I knew when the finale started that it was going to be an epic fight. I wasn’t expecting a story about just people. It was gonna be an epic fantasy, which was obivous to me from the beginning. Still you can’t help what your lil heart longs for.

But surprisingly(?), the ending was pretty great. I can see how people who weren’t uninvested the moment stolen century begun could’ve really liked it.

And I personally loved how happy it was. I hated how something like Harry Potter ended. I hate endings that think they need to kill of lovable characters to show the misery of war. Misery of war can go stay in the history books and the news, I don’t want it in my quality entertainment.

I loved how just… everyone appeared, everyone helped. The Hunger wasn’t potrayed as this awful darkness that cosumed everything, like it was in the stolen century arc, which was also something I didn’t really enjoy. I don’t like stories where there feels like there’s not sunshine, where there’s a constant feeling of eternal misery in the back of your mind.

In Story and song, the hunger felt like an inconvenience. It was nothing against this laughing doofuses, the friends they made a long the way, and the FREAKING ELEVATOR MECH AND GARFIELD THE DEALS WARLOCK.

It’s a bit of a shame that I can’t picture the Ipre group finding joy after like 100 years of torment, and that I see them all as strangers instead of the friends and characters I enjoyed. That kind of taints the whole podcast. But I can say that it was a ride I enjoyed immensely, and I am sure there are a ton of people who loved it, and they really should.

Also since Commitment is happening I can get more of this stuff and hopefully next time they keep it at a more local scale.

Griffin’s retconning was neat. I feel like I would’ve digged it more if that form of storytelling didn’t come so naturally to me. (NOT TO Sound LIKE I’m FULL OF MY SELF which I mean everyone is literally full of themselves. Like your blood and meat? That’s you. You’re full of yourself.)

BUT YEAH that’s a few thoughts. I feel very vulnerable putting this out there, because there are a lot of people that I admire who know what they’re talking about. I’m not a person who likes writing my thoughts down, I mean we experience the world as a multidimensional plane of excistence with like 5 senses, and then words try to convey that and they suck at it. I don’t want people to read a broken phone, but you can’t put your thoughts out as thoughts.

I’m alone with my brain and so are you, you’re interpreting what I am writing right now, possibly unintentionally judging everything through your lense of a brain, how dare you.

Go away you hooligan.

Jumin’s route is done! That was a freaking roller coaster. aka the route in which i probably broke my own heart a little before I even finished Day 4, and it only got worse from there. And DAY 10 DESTROYED ME.

Being the rabid Seven fangirl I am, getting this route was hard. The only thing that kind of soothes my heart is that I didn't get any heart breaks from Seven. (You know, besides his actual heart by Day 10. That kind of negated... almost all my good feelings).

i just want to help like, every single one of these losers with their problems jfc.

Also, per usual, these comments were written as the game was being played, and so are probably kind of incoherent, and switch from first and 3rd person POV sometimes in the middle of the same point. All of that is under the cut.

Also, for some reason, the After end CG didn’t save to my album. Hm....

So much of his personality is explained by his dad honestly. Also, I have a very bad feeling about his dad and the Choi lady.

When you grow up in the public eye, it seems like the choices are to either try to become as bland/invisble as possible to avoid having the paparazzi on your ass (as seen with Jumin), or you do a Tony Stark and make a party/attention whore mask and basically try to own it.

Considering how Jumin describes his dad (skirt chaser? easily seduced by a pretty face?), I'm not completely surprised that he doesn't like women.

Also, should I be concerned that I find his utter failure at photography kind of adorable and odd, considering his best friend is a professional photographer?

...What the fuck did your dad do? A fiancee, seriously? The creepiest part is that apparently she's related/connected to his new skirt?

"I won't sell out my father over my cat." Does that mean your dad's actually tried that/is trying that? jfc

it's kind of cute watching him be concerned over MC, because you can kind of tell that he's warming up to her/starting to like her, but doesn't really get (want to acknowledge?) why.

I'm so sorry. T_T I'm leaving your route for last, which means I need to be mean/indifferent to you and this sucks like hell. Especially since I get to talk to you more than once in a while. Almost none of the responses I want to make in Days 1-4 are the ones I chose to get this route. this is pain. none of this is okay. i am not okay. i will probably not be okay whenever i think about seven during Jumin's route.

Uh... I couldn’t really enjoy this route very much because of the very possessive and creepy undertones halfway through the 11 days. I mean, I know he gets better, but honestly, that shouldn’t be behavior an s/o should have to stick around and try to “fix.” It also sounds a lot like coercive behavior abusers would use? Basically, I think Jumin needs a therapist who will probably need their own therapist instead of a girlfriend, because that kind of emotional burden is heavy and not something I think I personally could handle.

I was talking to someone else about this route, and we agreed that his route really isn’t good for anyone who isn’t personally emotionally or mentally healthy/alright.

Less Ain’t More

Went to watch Ocean’s Eight, the newest chapter in the popular Ocean’s Franchise. Replacing George Clooney, Brad Pitt and crew is Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. Bullock portrays Clooney’s character’s younger sister, Debbie Ocean. And like the first film, Ocean is released from jail, and immediately finds her partner in crime and puts together a heist. Instead of hitting a Casino or a major piece of art. This crew are robbing a jewel necklace from the Met Gala in New York City!

First what is good. To steal from the online video channel Cinema Sins, Sarah Paulson is always a win. Her Tammy is a suburban housewife, who works as a fence. In fact one of the funniest moments in the film is her explaining to Debbie that she is no longer a fence when standing in a garage of obivously stolen merchandise. And Rihanna as the team’s hacker is great. For an inexperienced actress, she holds her own with ACADEMY AWARD WINNERS Bullock, Blanchett and Hathaway. You cannot help but to love her Nine Ball. And finally Blanchett. Now we all know this Aussie has got game. Since she appeared on the scene as Elizabeth I, she is just a black belt of acting. And Blanchett gives us a wonderful broad. And she revels in the part. Her Lou is obviously this crew’s Rusty. But she takes the position, and makes it her own, making you ask, “Brad who?”

Here is the issue with the film. Director Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) wastes a majority of the brilliant cast. You have America’s sweetheart, Bullock, who at times just comes off as a bitch. Not a powerful, liberated woman. Just a bitter, bitter bitch. It is really hard at times to root for Debbie. She comes off as dismissive of the other members of the crew. It really not into the heist before she gets the “root for factor” going. And Bullock is like Clooney, they have a natural likability, even if they are the “bad guy” you kinda root for them.

Anne Hathaway, an actress who built her early career in comedies, seems to be constantly begging the audience for a laugh. That has to be on the director. An actress like Hathaway doesn’t stop being able to do comedy because she has been doing drama recently. Mindy Kaling appears her real function in the team is to be the d.u.f.f. for the team. I am not saying she is ugly or fat, but she is the character having to be told about tinder. Can you say waste? Yes, I think you can. Helena Bonham Carter, was the direction just look like you are going to have a panic attack at any minute, and we will dress you eccentric. And her performance demonstrates her wasted skills in this film. Her wonderful Irish lilt. Even English actors have a tendency to lean into the “Top O’ The Morning” Irish accent.

Full disclosure on actress Amkwafina, I have ZERO idea if she is wasted. Looking at IMDB, I have seen nothing she is. But nothing in her performance screams, I’m going to be bummed if she is replaced in an Ocean’s Nine.

The only truly weak link acting wise is Richard Armitage, the patsy for the heist. He gives a “Cad By Numbers” performance. You don’t even enjoy watching him go down. It is like oh,. Okay. Next?

Now if you scroll down this blog you will see an entry entitled, “Just Stop”. In it I decried the remaking films by just switching the genders of the leads. I mention this film, as it was announced not as a sequel/ spin-off but an actual reboot. Thankful it is not with cameos of Elliot Gould and Qin Shaobo. So on this, Ocean’s 8 is a major step above 2016’s Ghostbusters. And the basic plot is fine, even the revenge on the man who sent her to jail story beat.

Where Ocean’s Eight really struggles, is the uneven pacing of the film and the true lack of a strong antagonists. The first three movies had the kinetic energy of the ticking clock, and great antagonists Andy Garcia, Vincent Cassel and Al Pacino. This movie does not. The met could be months away, or days. The pacing of the film never convenes this. It prods along. And as I mentioned before, setting her ex up to take the fall, is not that exciting or interesting.

All heist films, you are asking the audience to root for criminals. These are people who are robbing people. So if we look at the first three films. Man takes another man’s wife. So let’s rob him, and make him look stupid. Fellow thief, breaks the code and tells the mark where we are. Let’s get that punk! This guy almost killed one of ours, and stole from him. Oh that SOB is going down. There is none of this in the film. In fact, at times, the film has more in common with the Rat Pack lead original. That film, has no real pacing and Cesar Romero is not that big of antagonist. That film was made, basically because four out of five Rat Pack members were already performing in Vegas, so why not make a movie. And this one, it is like the producers felt, our cast is so good, no need to worry about those details. Ah, the other cast was just as impressive. And you did worry about it.

That said, there are elements that would make the possibility of a second outing of this crew, worth possible checking out. Even a possible cross over between the two branches of the franchise. Oh wait, they screwed that up. They added a completely unnecessary and STUPID plot point for… I cannot figure it out.

I’m sorry if I appear to be a bit upset but this is just unfair. I was just a kid when I started listening to them. My brother used to put their singles on the highest volume possible so not hearing it was kind of impossible. They were my introduction to Rock as a whole and also gave a very specific drive to Nu Rock. I’m not gonna get into the specifics of my first introduction to music, this is just not the right moment for that. The reason why I came here is reflected in the very first sentence in this text. It’s just unfair.

At first, nothing was too appealing for me, I barely spoke any english at the time and I would mostly sing with some made up lyrics that made no sense, just because I thought the song itself was catching and I wanted to follow along. Didn’t took long until I feel in love with the language and actually started to listen to the songs, what they were telling, besides the pleasure that was the instrumental part of it.

Fast forwarding from that and I find myself in love, at age 15... ish. I knew her since my first class and, an easy way to put it, she was a magnet to my eyes. Always so charming, loving, interesting, extroverted. All the bullshit we learn to love and look up for. Obivous problem is, she’s different, not really bound to reciprocity of emotions neither a general sense of responsibility over loved ones, so of course I got absolutely destroyed attempting to be heard and maybe corresponded.

I understand that I’m compressing a lot of stories into one text and it’s hard to generalize everything, so I’ll just have to use examples. From the obvious conclusion that she expresses no need to answer emotions, I still managed to ignore that major flaw and started to bet away my faith entirely on her, when she’s clearly not capable of being in such a position. Consequences varied, but to put into perspective, she’s done so much fucked up stuff that I couldn’t resist not giving a fuck about. It was just all too sensitive and personal. Everything she did reflected directly on our friendship and I started to get seriously hurt over time.

Of course, the bottom line most dumb obvious decision was to just let her go, understand her personality and evaluate her as not a human being I want to fuck with. When I disregarded that, that’s when I crossed the line and started to mess with some stuff that inflicted serious damage on myself. I started to hate myself, wanted to change the way I looked, the way I felt, the way I talked, just so I could be “passable” and get her attention for once. It worked for a while, but ultimately circumstances drove myself into a serious issue: Depression.

Don’t tell me it’s not hard to look at yourself, see that you’re giving her everything you’ve got only to realize there has been no answer, no interest, no emotion. I started to develop hate torwards myself. Started to satirize the way I looked, felt, acted. And within that development I’ve had essentially built the worst weapon against my own mind: An enemy, my own self.

Then everything started to make sense for me. All those songs that they were singing. I could relate to them, finally. I started to understand the lyrics and to relate to it. The pain that I was suffering was comming from myself and from her. I started hating her, seeing her reflection over every word, every verse, every paragraph.

Slowly, I began to drift away from the friendship that I had with her. I used to love her, I used to be her friend, give her advice, be on her side, laugh with her. Now the one true friend I can relate to is them. Chester and Mike. It was the best therapy at the best time. I was feeling like I lacked somebody to talk with that really cared. Everytime I came to talk with her, it got so superficial that all we had to talk about was how our days were going, our plans in life, our fake emotional state at the moment. It was ridiculous... I was losing the only person I truly opened myself to.

So more often then not, those songs started to have some serious impact on my life. When I was enraged off of something that she did, I was always trying to keep it to myself, blame it all on me, but sometimes, you just have to let it go, let the emotion express itself. Point some fingers, judge, question. I wasn’t being ignorant. I was trying to see what the fuck was she doing. Why would she do that? Why would she care if she did that? And it all clicked.

I feel in love with the band, I had a connection everytime I heard a song. It sky rocketed from relating to it to bonding to it. Sometimes, I caught myself watching the starlit sky whilst listening to that song. It wasn’t just a song, it was a melody. Not singing for meaning, but singing through my soul. Like I was ascending to another realm of existance.

It all sounds like it’s some kind of fucked up hippie shit. But music can often do things like that. When the situation is tough and there’s nothing that can give you strength, you start to notice the little things and how much they matter. You can feel the drum, the guitar, the violin, their voice, everything hitting every note, like it’s deciphering you.

That process started to be something really meaningful in my life. I wasn’t connecting to her the way we did before, and I was really sad about that, but unfortunately there was nothing that could be done. She was determined for that change, and so she did. All I know is that I lost a friend and the comotion it brought me was too devastating. She was not just getting distant, she was dissapointing me all the time, as well. So everytime, when I felt angry, sad, depressed, I would queue up one of their songs, and just listen to that voice, sometime calming, sometimes enraged. And it all brought me back to when I was before, it brought back my sanity.

So, during the dissapointment strike she was having at the moment, she had hit me hard pretty good with that trick in that day at the beach house. How can a man react to that? I asked myself that question months before it even happend. Because I knew I had to prepare myself. It was really sad. Realizing that you have to prepare your guts because you know she’ll do something extremely impactful on you, just bacause, you know, she’s not a realiable friend. Not only that, but the thing she does... it’ll grow on you... like a scar, forever stained in your skin.

So, again, how the hell does a man react to that? To put into perspective in a really simple way, I had lost my mind from to moment I realized they were doing it until I went back home 2 days after. I didn’t get sad, smiled, laughed, cried. I just felt extremely, extremely empty. Imagine building something from scratch only to see it all fall in a matter of seconds? 5 years of friendship destroyed in a little bit over 10 minutes. To describe something like this... Is actually impossible. I hope no one has to go through what I did that day. I was not friendly to myself, and I think that’s the worst enemy you can have.

So why am I telling you this? Because in December, 14th, 2015, I, Gabriel Moraes, attempted to kill myself. Just like that. And at the moment, it was urgent, too. I was trying to get something to do it with. A knife? A blade sharp enough to rip an artery apart? OD? I could not live with it. How humiliating. You’ve spent 5 years on that girl and what you get as payback is a fool around with another random guy she didn’t even know for a year IN YOUR HOUSE? Oh boy, you’re in for a treat in this one.

And in that moment, I started to make sense out of a lot of things that I didn’t understand prior to that. Why do people commit suicide? Why do people commit murder? Why would anyone want to harm anybody else? Why would you be so selfish that you would take your own life without thinking about your loved ones? From what I learned that day, you can definetely tell that the mind is a dangerous thing when not in order. Sometimes, some feelings are extremely overwhelming, and sometimes we can’t get through them. Life’s a persistency game.

The reason I breathe and am writing this text to you right now, is because I had music to relate to. Friends to help me through it. Family that spent an excessive ammount of time raising a child the best way they could. I’m here.

Extremely alone, without any projections over the future, insecure about my life choices and myself in general, lost completely in the past, but I’m here. Breathing, living, existing. Making sure I don’t upset the people that truly care about me.

Yet, after everything I’ve told you, you’ve perhaps forgotten the reason behind this text. The very foundation of “hope”, for me, relied heavily over the back of Linkin Park, and all their members. But Chester was a true friend I could relate to and was the one I really admired as a person in general. To lose someone that has been a major part to the understanding of such a basic, but extremely necessary notion, is heartbreaking.

In a way of saying, the impact that Chester has caused in my life is so big, it’s actually immeasurable. He has played a major role in one of the greatest decisions I had to take in my life. If it wasn’t for his soul touching voice, lyrics, personality, kindness, I would not be the person that I am today.

So, to wrap all of this up, losing a best friend is not the best thing that oughta happen to anyone. I already had a pretty depressing, sad story with her and I’m not willing to experience anything like it, regardless of the good moments. Losing her was enough, losing another best friend, now that’s just unfair.

You might have passed away, but your soul remains inside each song you’ve made. Rest in peace, soldier.
