i’ve said this before and i’ll say it again until people get it, “aesthetic” isn’t about whether you actually do those things. it’s about looking like you do those things. you’re totally within your rights to think that’s dumb! but something being evocative or representative of an aesthetic has nothing to do with the actual practice or reality or lifestyle

#which. again. you can find that vapid or poserly if you like lol #and many people who engage with aesthetics DO often walk the walk as it were #but then that comes with its own issues like people critiquing cottagecore for being a settler colonial fantasy #when it’s like. most people into cottagecore are not actually going to buy ‘untamed’ land and log it and farm it and build a cottage #they’re just like. gonna wear gingham and bake bread #maybe have a garden or some chickens if they’re ambitious #and dark academia isn’t about going to school #it’s about wearing sweaters and tweed and imagining you saw a ghost in the library
