Re:American shows
Okay I've to get out of the way that obviously they're both good. Before someone comes t me.
But regarding the unnecessary sexualisation of characters I've to agree so bad. So I was watching suits a few months back and I realised how they wear such tight, form fitting dresses. In homes, in offices. Everyone everywhere. I can understand office. But in their homes??! I mean Rachel wears this dress at home and I'm like are u comfortable wearing that?
If u want to take shows focused on good office fashion let's go for suits vs search. Search had some great fashion. But in search. They had fun with it. The colours the texture. It dint always comes right. But it was fun to see. And most importantly not every dress was a form fitting, figure hugging breath holding Contraption.
Suits makes me wonder how are u still breathing. Though to agree it did have some great dresses. Esp Jessica Pearson's wardrobe.
So what’s interesting to me is that while I’d never want to wear a super tight suits and I am definitely annoyed at the outfits that they make say, superhero ladies wear compared to guys, it’s further down on my list of what bothers me. Mostly because while I don’t think a cop would wear heals to chase a perp, or a ceo would wear a mini and spike heals, I mean they could? I’d have to know if the actor preferred it or if some dude was making her wear it for fan service. That’s what would matter to me - is it a choice or a gimmick. If a girl/person chooses a stereotypically sexy outfit to rock it out, you do it lady!
On top of that, I do think a lot of k-drama outfits are crazy over the top sexy too, just in a different way? Look at the super constricting outfits with bared stomach of Seo Ye Ji in Psycho but It’s Okay (my gay is coming out ladies) and the crazy fashions of Scarlett in Search: WWW (so pretty. MINE.) and remember Hotel Del Luna a.k.a. IU fashion show? I mean that’s hotter to me than a tight mini so I guess it’s all a matter of preference or what someone thinks is sexualization.
My issue (and it’s my own issue that maybe some people share) is that I’m watching a show and it literally opens to a couple having graphic sex, or a couple kisses and it leads to sex so the show definitely feels like it HAS to show me that, visually.  And like HBO is super into showing the behind or above angle cause like...details??? They want to make sure it looks super real for some reason as if I feel like I’d be missing out and like, I don’t need that AT ALL.
Implied sex is way sexier than sex, to me personally which is why I prefer K-Drama romance.
UPDATE: I want to edit this ask because I realize I forgot something important, and an amazing anon sent me an ask adding:
“I think sex scenes, even a little graphic, can be great if it feels earned.”
This. So Much This, and my rambling missed on that very important point :)
Anyways, I’m not sure I was very clear because I have conflicting feelings about wardrobe. Basically I agree that super tight outfits on tv are pretty unrealistic though I feel like that’s a universal for TV worldwide. No one is going to sleep in a corset with their hair done in real life lol. But whether or not it’s bad for women to be dressed that way on TV? That’s a hard one we should explore!
