I have a guess as to how Araki ranks his villains in terms of "evil" because I think it's based on their intention and their worldview just as much as their actions. Like, Diavolo doesn't give a shit about anyone except himself and all of his actions stem from that, so he's designated "Most Deplorable" category despite his actions not actually being as bad or as gruesome as lots of the other villains
#rambles#then u have funny valentine whose actions are vile and what he wanted would've hurt way more people than diavolo did#but the storyline weirdly tries to frame him in sort of sympathetic lights sometimes#i guess because dedicating to yourself to your country is technically not just caring about yourself ? ? ? ? idk#i'm actually not really sure how you're supposed to view Valentine but Eyes of Heaven was definitely leaning on the ''sympathetic'' view#(EoH's storyline was not written but was supervised by araki)#i also recall a thing with araki talking about funny valentine and saying ''i didn't think the audience could side with a coward''#like ??? ''coward'' is not what i was thinking as the problem with him LOL...#when i read part 7 i viewed valentine as the representation of american exceptionalism and imperialism#but now i'm honestly not sure what the intent is with him... i might just be too anti-ultranationalist for this
