My redesigns for Audrey and Andre!

My precious trash fire failure parents. How I love you both.

Andre changed the most. I don’t like anything about his design/personality so I scrapped nearly everything. Only keeping the basics. He’s 6ft 2. Only smaller than Gabriel who’s 6ft 4. I kept his grey hair. He’s the mayor, runs a hotel and is constantly stressed. There is no way he still has any colour left in his hair. I made it curly and a lot thicker because I headcanon Chloe’s hair as being naturally curly. She's got to get it from somewhere. And I think it makes him look softer, because this is my au and can make him whoever I want!

I gave him glasses for a similar reason. Because with how he presumably stares at paperwork/computers at night has given him bad vision. His glasses are historical spectacles, to continue the aspect of people thinking he’s older than other people around him.

Now you may wonder why his outfits are so plain. And I say, that’s the point! He likes being boring. He doesn’t like standing out. So he goes for outfits that are dull. Ironic considering he’s the mayor. Therefore most of his outfits are plain suits, only wearing the sash for special events. He also has some casual outfits, but it’s just plain jumpers and cardigans with trousers. I kept his colour scheme centred around blues, reds and greys.

He gets the purple robe when he got ill. Chloe found out and was sick of him wearing the same dressing gown he's worn since she was two and dug around the castle until she found it. Felix took it home for her. I did make the robe before I looked into the symbolism, but purple roses apparently symbolise royalty and love at first sight. Which fits the royalty theme and how Andre fell in love with Audrey.

Personality wise his nervousness has been heightened to constant anxiety. He thinks if he eats less and drinks more coffee to keep awake, then he can do more work. It doesn’t work at all and makes him worse. He’s also majorly paranoid. He doesn’t fully enjoy being mayor. And in most of my au’s he was supposed to stop being mayor. But the akumas started and no one else wanted to do the paperwork. So he’s stuck being mayor, with a variety of worsening health problems. He has chronic migraines, poor vision, a stomach ulcer. And muscular atrophy in his legs because he’s always sat working. Nevermind his terrible immune system.

I kept his interest in movies but instead of directing, he loves the soundtracks. Andre adores music. He can play the violin, piano, cello, double bass and the harp. He could spend hours doing nothing but playing/listening to music. He's still got his first violin from his late father. Chloe hops into an alternate timeline and gets him a Stradivarius violin for his birthday. Which he does freak out over. He doesn’t know where this random highly valuable Stradivarius suddenly came from. He also likes reading. He could recount a lot of books/pottery if he was told to. He just doesn’t get to do it much anymore. At least until he gets really ill, forced to rest and has a ridiculous amount of free time.

I kept Audrey mostly similar. She’s also 6ft 2. I kept her hair but just let it grow longer and curlier as she slowly becomes a better person. Also the grey streaks in her hair, due to stress. But also a sign of her accepting, she’s getting older. And things have changed.

I loved her concept outfit so I kept that. Except I took the stripes away and the letters on her belt. For some reason I cannot get the idea of 1950s Audrey out of my head so I did try to draw her in them. And a thanks to @generalluxun for the help with Audrey’s pyjamas. Chloe also gets her some historical outfits. However Audrey’s robe is literally just Martha May Whovier’s. Except hers has yellow carnations on it, that symbolise regret. Because Audrey has a lot of those. I messed with colours a lot but the only colour palette I’d like to explore more for her is teal, turquoise and dusty pink.

Audrey’s personality is dependent on her character arc. Which is learning not to be a horrible bitch and that you can’t take your issues out on other people. She starts off being where she was in canon around season 2, but a little more self aware and smarter. Her change starts right after season 2 where Jean-Claude slaps her and tells her to get her shit together because she is going to end up completely alone if she doesn’t change. That brings her back to reality, so she starts to work on things. Including going to therapy. Although neither her or Andre can understand the point of therapy.

For her hobbies she can actually sew and spends her spare time making clothes. It’s why she’s so confused when Andre gets the fancy robe because she can tell how old the fabric is. Then she’s even more baffled when she gets a robe. She does like reading, so her and Andre bond over that. She also has a horrid sweet tooth. Cakes and Ice cream are her joys, which was fun for her considering her father’s a baker.

In this au, neither of them actually had Bourgeois as their maiden name. Audrey’s maiden name was Clement and Andre’s was Garçon. There is some cruel irony in those being their names. Audrey changed hers for her parents sake. And Andre wanted to distance himself from his family. Though, they can’t remember where it came from. All they remember is that it was a joke Emelie made. Then they can't be bothered to change it. Contrary to what you may believe, Audrey and Andre do actually love each other. They’re an opposites attract type of pair. They’re just not good at communication skills. So things fall apart a little, before they start therapy. They do really need each other.

An important thing in regards to Chloe’s trauma and her parents' trauma. Chloe can recognise just how fucked up the things happening are. It hurts her, she knows it’s fucked up, she just doesn’t know what to do about it. She has no clue what to do about seeing her parents' dead corpses. Or her situation in general. However Audrey and Andre are the opposite. They know what happens to them hurts. But they just can’t recognise how fucked up it is. To them, it’s normal and a part of their lives. So they don’t understand how badly it’s impacted their behaviour. And they don’t know what to do or see the point of therapy. Even though they really need it.

While I’ve tried to make them complex people in this au, they are just plot devices for conflict. This conflict is always involving Chloe, her friends and whoever she’s playing mind games with. Ranging from politicians, to cults, to even Chloe herself. Though it’s mainly between Chloe and Gabriel/Nathalie. Even though for most of it, Gabriel and Nathalie don’t know it’s Chloe.

With most people it’s to get Chloe’s power and that pulls Audrey/Andre in because she’s obsessive over them and can be used as leverage. They’re just collateral damage and. People don’t care if they die.

With Gabriel/Nathalie much more personal. Specifically, Gabriel and Nathalie fighting Chloe and Felix, who have Adrien and Kagami’s support. Gabriel uses Audrey/Andre, but doesn’t want them to die because he’ll lose control. He gets a sadistic pleasure in being one of the only people that can cause Audrey direct fear. And since he’s had control over her since they were 11, he doesn’t want to lose that anytime soon. In fact he was ecstatic when Chloe disappeared. Any chance he had to akumatise Chloe was lost the moment she got her hands on the book.

In fact in any of my au’s where they’re not being shitty people, they’re damsels in distress. @generalluxun put it very accurately in that they suffer everything that canon Audrey and Andre should. The nicer Audrey and Andre’s in my au are stuck in eternal cycles of suffering. Always stuck as powerless victims in fights between Gabriel, Nathalie and Chloe, Adrien, Kagami, Alya, Nino and Marinette, etc. That’s why they’re the final akuma in a few au’s. Because they’re so emotional and vulnerable by the end.

So that’s Audrey and Andre redesigns. These designs are also the standard ones for them across my au’s. So if you’re looking at one of my au’s/fics this is what they’ll look like. With slight changes to fit that particular au. Because Audrey in All Consuming Cruelty really does spend the entire au being literally tortured by the kwamii of consumption and cruelty. It really affects her mental and physical health, so the way she looks and dresses changes.

Showdown in the Dark Night! Joker vs Shadow CH2

<2>The Girl with Mysterious Powers

Let's wind time back a little...

Sometime before Shadow fought against the police, another disturbance occurred outside the manor.

"Ice Shot!" shouted a boy, and a bluish-white beam shot from his gun. The beam instantly froze the surrounding grass and stopped the pursuing police in their tracks. The boy watched the scene with satisfaction, letting a carefree smile form on his face. His long and straight blue hair fluttered in the night wind. A long white coat and violet scarf caught the breeze in a similar fashion. The bristled yellow crest of hair above his handsome face completed the look. It was Phantom Thief Spade...!

"Well, how's it going on your end?" Turning around, there was a white shadow fighting the police at a short distance away.

The sharp sound of clanging metal rang out, followed by thuds of men clubbed with the hilt of a sword falling to the ground. In the thick of it was a white, feminine silhouette swinging a sword as if she were dancing. Eventually, once there were no officers left standing around her, the girl lowered her weapon and turned to Spade. "No problem. They were a letdown."

Her long blonde hair was tied into high twintails, and she was cloaked in a white and pink coat. Her gleaming eyes held a diamond-shaped light. Despite her winsome appearance, she effortlessly wielded a large sword in her right hand, soon sheathing it at her hip. It was Phantom Thief Queen...!

"Anyway, you took more time than me. Is it just me, or is your Shot not as accurate as usual?"

"You think so? I didn't think I had any problem... Let's check the map." Spade changed the subject and took out his phone. "Let's see..." A map of the manor showed on the handheld screen.

Fields of all sizes, large and small, were arranged around the Gardens, and each was connected by an intricately schemed path. It was difficult to grasp the entire layout without a map. There was a red blinking dot on it. Spade and Queen were currently in the furthest region of the garden. They were still far from the manor.

"That's pretty distant. This looks like it'll be a harder job than anticipated..."

"Geez, requests from Grandpa are really demanding." As Queen complained, Spade took a breath and looked up into the dark sky. Yes, it was three days ago that Spade had been called by Queen.

Spade, Queen, and Joker all had the same master in phantom thievery. Once called "The Silver Magician", he trekked from one city to another and stole treasures from around the world: the legendary great thief, Silver Heart. Each of them had their own circumstances for being taken in by Silver Heart, and they trained under him to learn the fundamentals of phantom thievery. He was like a parent to the three of them, and not only had he taught them techniques for thievery, he also taught them life skills. Even after they had learned enough of the trade from him, Queen still lived with Silver Heart, and Joker and Spade visited on occasion to check up on their master. None of them could very well refuse a request from the master.

When Spade arrived at the hideout at the top of the hill, the first thing out of Queen's mouth was "It's actually quite a problem..."

"It really is," continued Queen's partner, the phantom thief dog Roko. Roko was a super dog bred through genetic research and could both speak and understand human language. He also lived in Silver Heart's hideout along with Queen.

"You know how Joker and Shadow sent out notices?"

"Yeah, for the Komachi's Gilded Chrysanthemum housed at the Cape Gardens, correct? I didn't think Joker would be interested in it, but if Shadow's going after the same thing, that would explain it. The two are probably fighting like kids over it." Spade smiled wearily.

Spade usually had his own juvenile conflicts with Joker too, but Queen avoided mentioning it. "Well, about that... apparently Grandpa has his eye on Komachi's Gilded Chrysanthemum too."

"What?" Spade asked.

A door banged open from further inside. "Spaaaaade...... pleaaaaaaase..." came a miserable moan from their master, Silver Heart, who had just entered the room.

He wore a snowy white double-breasted suit, completed with a white silk hat and white cape. Well-polished gold buttons and pink cuffs poking out from under the sleeves accented the look. He sported an impressive silvery beard, and an antique monocle shone over his left eye. It was the fabulous, elegant figure of phantom thief Silver Heart!

...That was the intent, at least, but the reality was a little different.

While his attire was flawless, the Silver Magician was lying down with his stomach pressed against a swiveling stool, using his hands and knees to slowly propel the wobbly wheels.

Spade sighed at the sight. "Master, your back...?"

Silver Heart had a chronic trick back. "Ughh... that's it. I picked up something while cleaning and it was lighter than I thought. That's when I cracked it terribly."

"Argh, this is because you tried cleaning on your own. If you had just asked, I'd have had Roko help."

"What, just me again?" whined Roko. Queen was no good at any household chores.

"Master, why do you want Komachi's Gilded Chrysanthemum?"

"Well, you see..." Silver Heart hesitated and glanced at Queen.

Queen sighed and spoke for him. "He promised the queen he'd give her Komachi's Gilded Chrysanthemum."

"You mean the queen of that country on the cliffs? Master's girlfriend, that one?"

"That's right. He wanted to show off and told her 'I'll bring you a flower hairpin beautiful enough for you.'"

"That makes sense."

"So he wants me to go steal it in his place. Grandpa's in this state, after all."

"Sorry..." Silver Heart let out a pitiful groan, nodding his head.

"Hm, a treasure that both Joker and Shadow are after, huh..." Spade folded his arms and thought. "Sounds fun, let's go."

"Kyo kyo." Spade's assistant Dark Eye, who had been listening off to the side, cackled in surprise. Tall and slim, Dark Eye leaned their bandage-wrapped face into Spade's ear. "But Spade-sama, you just finished a major job. If you don't rest your body for the next three days, your temperature will..."

"It's all right, Dark Eye. I'll be working with Queen this time. Besides, it's a chance to show up Joker and Shadow." Spade grinned. It was a smile just as childish as Joker and Shadow were.

However...

Spade rubbed his eyes as he ran through the garden. To tell the truth, his condition had gotten worse since last night. He had lied about it up to this point, but the exhaustion was building up. Queen had seen through him just earlier. I hope I can hold out to the end...

The pair was now past the gardens and approaching the manor. Just then, a call came through on his phone. "You've managed to avoid security so far, but that'll be difficult further along." It was Roko's voice. Roko and Dark Eye were on standby in Spade's airship and handling logistical support.

"Looks like it. How about the security cameras, Dark Eye?"

"Kyo kyo, I've successfully hacked into them."

"Thank you. Keep directing us, please."

"Kyokyo, please wait. Your body..." Dark Eye's worried voice came from the phone.

"It's fine."

"Kyokyo, but Spade-sama, your breath was erratic before you went out. Please do not stress..."

"Enough already, keep watching the cameras."

"Kyokyo... very well."

"I'm counting on you." Spade said brusquely and took a breath. Really, what a worrywart. Of course, he knew Dark Eye was looking out for him. Even so, Spade didn't want to be handled with kid gloves. I'm all right... "Okay Queen, let's go." But when he looked up, Queen was concealing herself against a hedge and peering into the garden. "What's up?" He approached and asked, only to be shushed and told to crouch down by Queen with her finger against her mouth. "Take a look at that."

Spade stooped down besides Queen and looked to where she was watching. There was an agitated silhouette at the edge of a large pond with fountain. "Isn't that..."

A pretty young girl's face bobbed out of a thicket. Her pink hair was tied into two buns, and she wore a red-violet jumper skirt over a purple blouse, a white petticoat sticking out from underneath. A yellow ribbon hung at the neck of her blouse, and the expression on her face as she glanced around the area suggested she was still unworldly. The girl's name was Rose. She was Shadow's younger twin sister. She always worked with Shadow, but she seemed to be alone today. Rose bit her lip slightly and focused her sights on the manor.

"What's up with Rose...?" mused Queen. As soon as the words were out of her mouth, the deafening sound of an explosion followed by the sound of something crumbling apart came from the manor.

"...!" Rose jumped out of the thicket in surprise. She apparently tripped a security sensor when she did. The wee-oo of sirens filled the area, and searchlights zeroed in on Rose at once. The nearby officers on patrol ran to the scene. Leading them were Ginko and Momo.

"Hold it right there, Shadow! Wait, Joker... it's not him either!?"

"A girl...!?"

The pair was perplexed by Rose's appearance. While Shadow had made a name for himself as a phantom thief, Rose was apparently still a no-name.

Then Oniyama's voice came over the radio. "Ginko-chan, Momo-chan, so arrest all suspicious persons around the manor!"

"Roger, Inspector!" Ginko responded and looked towards Rose again.

Meanwhile, still hidden against the hedge, Spade asked. "What shall we do? Do we help?" But Queen wordlessly shook her head. It was as if she was saying "no need". The reason was quickly gleaned.

"You're under arrest!"

"Get her!"

At their order, the police immediately charged toward Rose. Beside Ginko, Momo leapt high into the air. Momo was a former SAT (special assault team) member and an expert in combat martial arts. The average police officer was nothing compared to her. Powerful Momo brandished a tonfa-like weapon and closed in on Rose! But just as Rose seemed to be shaking her head to and fro with an expression of futility, she calmly raised her right hand towards the officers and abruptly opened her eyes. Grrrrip...! The air trembled with a heavy shockwave, reaching all the way to Spade and Queen some distance away. The next moment, Momo and the other officers around Rose were stopped in their tracks.

This was Rose's ability. By concentrating and channeling the power from her body into her hand, she could stop a target from moving. Spade and Queen had both experienced it before. It was like being trapped in a hunk of iron, unable to move a finger. Though the mind was clear, the body was paralyzed stiff. Momo and Ginko had no idea of what happened, and despite being frozen, their confusion was obvious. Rose kept focusing her power and was about to leave the scene, but then-- "Who's that out there!"

Glancing up at the veranda of the third floor, there was Hayami gazing down towards them. "Is that... Hayami Kyoutarou?" Spade asked.

He heard Rose, who had looked up at the same time, whisper his name as well. "Hayami-san..." Right after, the energy active on Momo and the rest wore off. Rose had lost concentration.

"Hrm? Aren't ya...?" Hayami seemed to have noticed her as well, but the area was too dark to see any faces.

The police took the opportunity and charged at Rose. "Catch her!" Momo bounded into the air and plunged toward Rose, who was standing absentmindedly. Her tonfa swung down. But before the tonfa could connect, it was halted with a clang. "Wha!?"

"Ghh...!" Queen had cut in between the two of them. She grit her teeth with effort and pushed back Momo's tonfa.

Though Momo pressed forward, the tonfa wouldn't go any further. "Kghhgh... you're here, Phantom Thief Queen!"

"You're not bad if my sword can't cut through." Queen and Momo put their weight into their weapons and were locked sword-to-tonfa. Their strength was equal, and Queen was unable to step away. "Spade!"

"Yes, I know!" Spade made a fabulous jump and landed on the fountain spout. The water sprinkled out around the area. "Ice Shot!" Spade shot his cooling beam at the shower, freezing the spray and making icy precipitation rain down on Ginko, Momo, and the other officers.

"Eeyah!"

"Owowow!"

While the officers flailed, Spade blew up a large bubble of gum above him and grabbed hold of Rose. The gum is called "Balloon Gum", and is one of the phantom thief tools employed by Joker, Spade, and Queen. Backstory

Anne was raised in a home of scientists. Everything was a possibility for new discovery in her house. Her dad was a bio-engineer and her mom was a geneticist and they deeply encouraged their little girl to go into science. And hey that’s exactly what she did! Considered a rather strange sort by her classmates and teachers in school, she was always working towards the next big breakthrough in the sciences. It wasn’t until after college that she got the chance to make the biggest contribution to science she could ever think of.

Having taken up the fields of both of her parents and making great strides in both of them, she was contacted by a military agency to well... develop super soldiers. Apparently, they wanted a way to guarantee the safety of the country and they believed SS’s were the only way to achieve that. This was truly her big break.. so she accepted the offer.

Fast forward a few years and she’s losing funding for her project. She’s been toiling at it for years and still no usable results. Soon, she can’t afford to pay the human subjects for her testing... And when all hope seemed lost, in came her college sweetheart and current boyfriend. He was offering himself as a test subject for her work. He knew how much this meant to her and he wanted her to succeed. Little did he or she know that Annie’s work would finally yield fruit in these coming months. Not only would she finally begin progressing towards truly impactful results but also towards quite large amounts of fun...

re: marin, i'm still gonna wait & see but i am a little worried bc i don't see any progress like i do w zhenya. even tho zhenya has struggled in comps, when i watch practice vids, i see the improvement in her jump technique (less pre-rotation, cleaner toe pick). with marin, even tho she was never the best jumper, she's never had the chronic ur problems she's had this season and i don't see any improvement in the underlying technique. i do like her sp a lot tho & she's still got lovely flow.

Living In A Fog: Life With Second Impact Syndrome

Imagine all the noise around you — classmates talking and laughing as they shove by on the way to their lockers, the droning sound of the morning announcements coming through on the overhead speakers, the bell echoing in the concrete courtyard, signalling the start of first period.

It makes you dizzy. Your brain feels like it’s rattling around in your skull. The tears keep coming and you just don’t know why. All you feel is, well, nothing.

This was Sarah Griffin’s existence for the latter half of high school and even now, as she wraps up her bachelor’s degree at Clemson University. It stemmed from one concussion, and then was exasperated by a second one.

“Other people couldn’t help me. I couldn’t help me. I just had to kind of ride it out until my body became exhausted and I couldn’t keep it up,” she said. “I missed a lot of school because of this.”

Sarah’s life would ultimately change forever.

Heels Down Magazine is exploring the stories of equestrian athletes who’ve suffered from concussions, and the short and long term effects of the injury on their health and performance. This is the second story in an ongoing series.

It started off as an average riding lesson. Sarah, a freshman in high school near Charleston, S.C., was schooling a few 2’6” jumps on a lesson horse with her hunter/jumper trainer. The girth wasn’t cinched tightly enough, and as Sarah cantered around the course, her saddle slipped down the horse’s barrel and she landed in the dirt, head first.

“I felt dizzy right away, but I jumped right up,” Sarah recalls. “I jumped right up after the fall but then I fell right back down.”

Sarah’s trainer told her not to get back on. So instead, she went home feeling disoriented and sore. She concluded that there was a good chance she had a concussion, so her parents monitored her all night after the accident, and kept waking her up so she didn’t sleep too much with a possible head injury.

While Sarah says she didn’t suffer any memory loss, her friends noticed right away how she kept repeating herself. It wasn’t until she was in the car with friends on the way to school the next day that the ill effects began to set in.

“I remember everyone was talking at a normal volume, but to me it felt like they were screaming,” she said.

Once she got to school, it got even worse.

“I just couldn’t handle people. My brain just hurt and I started to cry, but I didn’t know why,” Sarah said.

This would spark a decade of doctors visits, panic attacks and fatigue for the amateur hunter rider. After her first concussion, an MRI would reveal that Sarah actually had a dent in her head where the muscle warped from the impact of the fall.

A second concussion three years later, where Sarah slipped off the back of a horse while jumping without stirrups, would only infuriate the symptoms of her first.

“I’m an excellent example of second impact syndrome,” said Sarah, who is now 25.

Second impact syndrome is a medical term used to describe how the brain swells rapidly, and often catastrophically, when a person suffers a second concussion before symptoms from an earlier one have subsided. The second blow to the head could occur days, weeks, or in Sarah’s case, years after the first, and even the mildest concussion can lead to irreparable harm from second impact syndrome.

Sarah described her first concussion as being more painful in the short term, and the second as having much more long-term effects. After the second injury, she became more prone to panic attacks. She felt exhausted all the time, which made it hard to keep up with regular riding and school.

“Even little things could send me into a panic attack, things that were seemingly insignificant to other people. And when I wasn’t having panic attacks I was worrying about having panic attacks and just worrying about everything in general,” Sarah said.

For more than a year, she experienced a “floating feeling” and issues with physical depth perception that would throw off her equilibrium. It gets worse when she is high off the ground, in an airplane, or even when she’s sitting in the backseat of a car. This is a problem she never had before her concussions.

“I would have to push down on the floor hard with my hands or my feet to sort of ground myself,” she described. “If I was moving and stopped, I would still feel like I was moving.”

Eventually Sarah would come to be labeled with chronic fatigue and fibromyalsia, which stemmed from her head injuries. Daily migraines made it hard to do anything but rest. It also made her extremely sensitive to medications, which only made her symptoms that much more difficult to treat.

There were many times when her brother would have to physically carry her upstairs at night to her room because Sarah’s body was so exhausted and in so much pain that she couldn’t do it herself.

“Stairs continue to be the bane of my existence,” she said.

It’s made having a social life as a college student that much harder. Sarah says she’s rarely felt well enough to go out with friends after class. Some medications made her gain weight for a while. Sarah struggles with maintaining a normal sleep schedule because the changes to her body.

Sarah’s come to accept that this is just the way she is now, migraines, fatigue and all.

“I’m up front with my teachers about it. Most of my friends know, but I pretty much have no social life because I have no time or energy,” she said.

But through the years of sleep studies, MRIs and dozens of doctors’ evaluations and tests, Sarah never let her fatigue or the headaches keep her from the barn.

“Horses helped ground me. I didn’t usually have panic attacks at the barn, it was my happy place,” said Sarah, who is studying equine science and business at Clemson.

She hopes to find a full-time job in the horse industry in South Carolina after graduation. Sarah’s spent weeks photographing herds of wild horses out West, never letting her injury get in the way of her passion. She soon may be purchasing a horse she watched be born and raised through her university program, too.

“I’m a big advocate for always wearing a helmet whenever you ride, no matter what discipline,” she says. “I was wearing a very good helmet both times. I always tell people, ‘It doesn’t matter what type of saddle you get bucked out of, you’re going to hit the ground just as hard.’”

Veronica’s Criminology professor is played by Patrick Fabian who is renowned for playing creeps and scumbags. Is it too soon to say that he’s the Hearst Rapist? Probably. Maybe he’s just the scumbag of the week.

Um, that TA is definitely the same actor who played Lucky last season, wearing a, frankly, terrible wig and some quintessentially 00’s facial scruff. Which, I mean, other than the unfortunate hair things going on is good overall since he was good as Lucky. The reuse of an actor is awfully blatant.

Okay, so fuck this Tim guy! Sexist shithead! Your smug ass wouldn’t be here to be smart mouthing Veronica without Elementary Education majors, fuckstick!

Dick gets in because of family connections, fair enough, but Logan has no family left (aside from Trina and no one has ever considered her a positive association) and what he did have was accused of murder shortly before being mysteriously murdered himself. (Which, btw, is that going to be followed up on? I assume not since we, the audience, already know who done it.)

Because she seems rather flush with extra-curriculars already, what with needing to help her father keep them fed and having a social life and all. But if she’s not, what’s the connection between this scene and the conversation with the other victim?

So Logan only barely got into this school and he’s chronically ditching class? Why go to all the effort to get in if you have no plans on actually doing anything?

Oh, Piz is wearing Duncan’s sweater! Okay. I was confused, because he clearly wasn’t, like, upset that Veronica was talking to another dude or whatever, but it took me a minute to work out what that look was.

AH! The Southie kid and his bros were a false lead! Okay. Veronica was not interested in the mentorship program. That was a misdirect to get this dude to admit that he knew and had access to juvenile offenders and their records.

Again with the cliffhangers. This does not need to become a thing again this season. It gets old.

So this was a much better opener than was Season Two’s but then that’s hardly surprising, given that “Normal is the Watchword” was just a huge mess. Obviously, it’s benefitted by the Hearst Rapist story having already been set up last season, but the reintroduction of it here would have been a perfectly good introduction even if it hadn’t. The standalone mystery was a little thin, but that’s not surprising considering the show has to introduce two new main characters in the form of Parker and Boring Boy #4 (because Piz is a stupid name), as well as the professor, his TA, and the Take Back the Night team, all of whom are almost certainly going to be important as the season rolls on.

I’m not sure how I feel about Dick being turned into an actual character with actual depth. Like, on the one hand, all of last season he basically existed to show us the audience how much worse he is than Logan to make Logan more palatable a match for Veronica, now the show wants us to actually care about him. It didn’t work when they rebooted Jackie’s character, not sure this is going to come out any better. On the other hand, if he’s going to stick around past the end of last season, then I guess they should at least do something to justify the screen time he’s taking up.

Weevil’s still in the credits despite him being arrested for… they didn’t say, but conspiracy to commit murder is what he’s guilty of. Though I don’t think they could make that stick without also arresting and convicting the actual killers, The Fitzpatricks. So I guess it was just an assault charge, in which case, he could be out in time to still be part of the story… so where is he?

How To Become a Professional Animal Communicator – My Story

Have you ever thought about becoming a professional animal communicator?  

If you love animals and you know how to talk to them, the idea of making a living as a professional animal communicator talking to pets can be very exciting! 

You know your animals have secret lives, thoughts, feelings and wisdom. Professional animal communicators are trained to be able to hear them, understand them, and communicate with them so they share their innermost thoughts.

I’ve been working professionally as an animal communicator since 1993.  And at this point in my career, I’m well respected as one of the top people in my field.  I’m a frequent guest on radio, I’ve been on tv, I’ve written books and am a contributing author to other books, and I’ve been a columnist for several publications.

I love teaching and working with people and animals all over the world, sharing the animal’s voices and wisdom, bringing more balance, peace of mind, joy and love into the hearts of my fellow animal lovers.

But it hasn’t always been this way.

Back in the early 1988, I started my own corporation doing market research and I was miserable.  It was a company I’d created after I graduated college with the help of 2 of my college professors and several of my student colleagues. Although I was pretty good at it, it didn’t make my heart sing.  And after 4 years of being in business, we closed the doors because I was dying inside.

I had contracted Lyme Disease and was very ill, in chronic pain, and I was getting sicker as time went on.  I was also married in an abusive relationship.  It was a very painful, difficult time in my life.

I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do, but I decided that whatever work I did do for the rest of my life would have to be meaningful in some positive, world changing way.

I wanted to do something that made a difference AND that made my heart sing.  

So I began praying and researching to find something I could do that would make that happen.  In all of my soul searching, I realized that the only area of my life that had consistently brought me joy was being with animals.  So I decided then and there to do something to improve the lives of animals in whatever way I could.

That single decision point opened up a whole new world for me. 

The first time I actually heard an animal talk was if it were a person talking to me….

I was with a friend who does animal body work. She wasn’t able to get a large knot to release from the mare’s hip she was working on. I heard the horse, named Valkyrie, make a comment about something my friend and I were talking about and I was startled, thinking “Who was that?”

Then I realized the horse was communicating with me!  

So I asked some questions to see if what I was hearing was accurate. It was.

Then I asked Valkyrie about her hip injury, and she ended up sharing with me the original experience and what happened. It felt very visceral to me as she was describing what had occurred.

Miraculously, as the horse shared her story with me, the muscle knot began to melt and disappeared completely right before our eyes!

My friend was so impressed, she started taking me with her to see her other clients. We discovered that my work communicating with the animals before, during and after her hands on work made a huge difference with the animals and their recovery process.

One day she took me to an Pre-Olympic Trial Dressage Competition at the San Antonio Rose Palace. 

While I was there, I met a Frenchman named JP and his extraordinary Grand Prix dressage horse. When JP heard that I could talk to horses, he immediately wanted me to work with his horse.  It turned out that Okzident would behave perfectly in practice, but would mess up his cues in the show ring.  JP couldn’t understand it.

So I asked Okzident what the deal was and what he told us was brilliant and to the point.

He said that he was tired of being overworked, that he wanted to be acknowledged for a job well done, and that he wanted an apology.  He knew that the only time he could “get back at” JP was in the show ring where he couldn’t be punished, and so he deliberately sabotaged their performance out of his anger.

When I told JP what his horse had told me, he offered an insincere apology to which Okzident turned his backside to us and swished his tail!

Once JP calmed down and considered what Okzident had to say, he realized that his horse was right on all accounts.  He offered a true apology the next go around to which Okzident went to him, put his head on JP’s chest over his heart, and accepted it.  They went on to win their competition!

Early the next morning I was awakened by a phone call from JP asking when I could come to Houston.  He had other horses and riders who needed my help!  And that was when I decided to go professional.

JP introduced me to Shirley Johnson who had competed in the Olympics. 

Shirley had gotten an expensive young Trakhener gelding and he was not doing well in training. She brought me in to work with him and I evaluated him.  Then, they brought in a vet specialist vet who also evaluated him.  Our findings were 100% in agreement, except for the 1 additional thing I found that the vet had no way of testing for.

Another very valuable Arabian dressage horse had almost torn his hind foot off in a trailering accident.  But he was so unpredictable, dangerous and fussy, usually there was no way that my bodywork friend could safely access the area she needed to work on without being in fear for her life.  In fact, she’d already told the owner that she wouldn’t work with him anymore.

Well, she thought that there was a chance he might cooperate if I worked with him first.  So she asked me to let him know what she was going to do and why she was doing it.

I carefully explained what we wanted to offer him, and asked him if he wanted the help.  I asked him to make certain promises of good behavior because she literally had to lay under his belly and get between his hind legs to reach the area to work on it!

He happily shook his head up and down, lifted his hind foot up where she could look at it, and then took a statue pose from which he did not budge one inch during the session.

I’m delighted to tell you she was able to do just that and he was completely cooperative. Instead of being retired and living in pain the rest of his life, he recovered and began competing in dressage again.

This was the start of an incredible journey working professionally with animals all over the world. 

I went on to work with world class Grand Prix dressage horses, hunter jumpers, cutting horses, and every horse in-between.

And of course, I’ve also worked with thousands of dogs and cats and birds and rabbits and ferrets and elephants and….  

I love my work, I love my clients, and I love the transformation I’m able to facilitate for them on so many levels.  Learning to communicate at the heart and energetic level, how to really listen to others, to grow spiritually and become enlightened through our interactions with the animals who share our world is often an epiphany experience… and I get to share that right along with each of my clients.

In my work with 10,000’s of animals it has been my experience that our animal friend’s issues are typically one or a combination of these four things:

An emotional issue

A health issue

A management issue, such as inappropriate training, wrong diet, wrong equipment, etc.

An emotional or health issue that is going on with YOU that your animal is reacting to negatively

Until there is direct clear communication with your animal, it isn’t possible to really know:

What they are feeling, feeling or experiencing

If there are other unknown factors

What happened from their unique viewpoint

Where they actually hurt, what kind of pain is it

What helps or doesn’t, and what makes things worse

What is truly needed, wanted and appreciated

What you, their caretakers, connection and involvement is and how humans contribute to the problems

How we can best assist them in recovery

Whether their saddle, bit, bridle, or other equipment is truly comfortable or if it’s interfering with their ability to focus, concentrate and perform to the best of their ability.

Not answering these issues can cause disease, illness, mystery health problems, and behavior challenges, if it’s not taken care of properly and in a timely manner when it first crops up.

We do know that your animal always does what seems right to them — from their own viewpoint. They always do what makes sense to them.

But without communicating specifically and directly with your animal, we won’t know exactly what’s really going on, or how best to resolve things.

Some of the main benefits an expert (professional) animal communicator can help you with are:

E – Evaluate:  next we need to evaluate their body, their management, their diet, their training program to be sure it’s right for them

A – Action Steps:  What action needs to happen to support them and you in creating the relationship of your dreams, to solve any behavior or training problems, to improve their health and well-being, to synchronize you with your animal so you can come into true partnership

R – Clear Resistance:  Change tends to create resistance, might feel risky, it can be emotionally charged, not logical, is fear based, yours and theirs.  If either of you is afraid, either consciously or unconsciously, then nothing you do together will be safe or easy.  So let’s clear that so you can get to the really good stuff.

T – Establish Trust:  everything you do with your animal revolves and centers on Trust.  If you’ve lost your animal’s respect, lied to them, didn’t follow through on a promise… from their viewpoint you are out of integrity and not to be trusted.  If that’s the case in your relationship, then you have some work to do to reestablish trust.  The good news is that when you know how to listen, to respect and to communicate with them, that goes a very long way in helping your animal decide if they can trust you.  And once you have trust back as a foundational part of your relationship, your animal will love you for it and will be that much better and be even more forgiving of your mistakes.  Plus, when you’re linked at the mind and heart, everything you do together gets WAY easier, is a lot more fun, and becomes a joyful experience.

R – Clear Resistance:  Change tends to create resistance, might feel risky, it can be emotionally charged, not logical, is fear based, yours and theirs.  If either of you is afraid, either consciously or unconsciously, then nothing you do together will be safe or easy.  So let’s clear that so you can get to the really good stuff.

T – Establish Trust:  everything you do with your animal revolves and centers on Trust.  If you’ve lost your animal’s respect, lied to them, didn’t follow through on a promise… from their viewpoint you are out of integrity and not to be trusted.  If that’s the case in your relationship, then you have some work to do to reestablish trust.  The good news is that when you know how to listen, to respect and to communicate with them, that goes a very long way in helping your animal decide if they can trust you.  And once you have trust back as a foundational part of your relationship, your animal will love you for it and will be that much better and be even more forgiving of your mistakes.  Plus, when you’re linked at the mind and heart, everything you do together gets WAY easier, is a lot more fun, and becomes a joyful experience.

10 biggest NBA trade deadline takeaways

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? IS THIS NOT WHY YOU ARE HERE?!?

After countless visits to the Woj bomb shelter and copious mashing of the F5 button, this year’s NBA trade deadline is now in the rearview mirror — but not before New Orleans became a Boogie Wonderland, Jeanie Buss executed Order 66, and Danny Ainge slept through all of his alarms yet again. As the salary cap dust finally begins to settle, let’s go for a deep dive into the 10 biggest takeaways from Trade SZN 2K17.

1. The Southwest Division has become a meat grinder

In their shocking acquisition of three-time All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins from the SacrHAHAHAHAmento Kings, the New Orleans Pelicans managed to melt our faces off and give the ultimate middle finger to small-ball all at once. Cousins will join forces with Anthony Davis to form what is easily the NBA’s most fearsome frontcourt duo since Tim Duncan and David Robinson, and he very well could lift the team to a Godzilla vs. King Kong-esque clash of styles against the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

But while the Cousins bombshell dominated all of the headlines, the Houston Rockets upgraded their own weapon system by trading for former Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams, a top-tier bench scorer and yet another threes-and-free-throws enthusiast to toss into Daryl Morey’s cauldron. And with the omnipresent San Antonio Spurs again cruising to a 60-plus win season, the Memphis Grizzlies modernizing nicely, and the Dallas Mavericks somehow still kicking, we may officially have a new Division of Death in the Association.

2. The East is now as wide open as it’s been in years

A faint glimmer of hope shines intermittently in the distance to signal the possible end of LeBron James’ reign of terror over the Eastern Kingdom. That glimmer may actually be the Ibaka Flocka Flame that the Toronto Raptors lit this trade deadline, a get that should improve their spacing and help remedy their chronic problem of bleeding easy buckets at the rim in crunchtime. Their late addition of P.J. Tucker as a LeBron-stopper of sorts has the potential to be huge as well, especially he was had for the price of a negative asset in Jared Sullinger and a pair of inconsequential second-rounders.

But don’t sleep on the Washington Wizards either now that they no longer have a cardboard cutout of a second unit thanks to the acquisition of Bojan Bogndanovic from Brooklyn. Bogdanovic’s friskiness off the bounce and his 36.6 percent career mark from deep give the Wiz a legitimate sixth man instead having to trot out The Ghosts of Power Conference Studs Past in Trey Burke and Kelly Oubre Jr. Now as long their starting five continues to swipe lunch money, Washington is set up to a be yuge headache come playoff time.

And to think that we haven’t even gotten to the team that’s mathematically closest to the Cavaliers yet…

3. The Boston Celtics are still waiting for the right time to pounce

“This will be the year that Danny Ainge finally awakens from his trade deadline slumber,” we repeated to ourselves as we slowly rocked back and forth in the fetal position. But alas, Ainge has once again taken the advice of the Magic Conch Shell and done nothing.

Paul George? Sike. Andre Drummond? Ask again later. Jimmy Butler? LOL.

In fairness, there’s not as much urgency to deal for a superstar when the Celtics have already witnessed one emerge in-house this season in Mighty Mouse Isaiah Thomas. Ainge may also want to see a healthy Avery Bradley get more reps with this current core and wait to see where that much-ballyhooed Brooklyn pick will actually fall so as to make a more well-informed decision about the future of his team. But time is of the essence with the Cavaliers, who are just three games ahead of Boston entering the second half of the season, beginning to show signs of mortality, so it’s still tough to justify the Celtics sitting on their hands instead of throwing them.

And since we keep mentioning those pesky Clevelanders…

4. The Cavaliers are walking a dangerous tightrope

LeBron James just hit all of his prospective playmakers with a resounding “It’s not you, it’s me.” Granted, a pre-deadline move was a longshot with the capped-out, asset-deficient reality the Cavs were forced to work with, especially since they gave up what little they had left to acquire sharpshooter Kyle Korver. But it’s still a highway to the danger zone to maintain status quo when the roster only runs six or seven deep right now thanks to the respective injury absences of J.R. Smith and Kevin Love.

Fortunately though, deadline inaction is far from nuclear Armageddon for the Cavs. The buyout market is still a viable place to acquire cheap, albeit exiled, talent in order to retool for a playoff run. Ditto for the often-overlooked 10-day contract cycle, which they recently took advantage of with the signing of ex-No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams. So while time is very much ticking on Cleveland, there’s still an ample amount of sand in their hourglass, and hopefully that means their title defense doesn’t fall flat (no pun intended).

5. Several more months of Carmelo Anthony rumors await us

#StayMe7o he did indeed, much to the chagrin of those of us who felt compelled to bang our heads repeatedly against our keyboards thanks to the constant bombardment of Carmelo chatter and the gross societal overuse of the phrase “no-trade clause.” Well, those therapy sessions now look like a pretty darn good investment with Anthony surviving the trade deadline and ensuring that many more months of Melo-brand Instagram shade, indecipherable Phil Jackson subtweets, and Spike Lee sideline struggle faces are looming on the horizon to assault the senses of the NBA fandom.

Where do the Knicks go from here? At 23-34, they’ve all but clinched another season of futility. Meanwhile, Derrick Rose will likely be gonzo after the year, but Joakim Noah will still be around to clog cap, and Kristaps Porzingis will continue to have his development stunted by the team’s Melo-centric offense. Then draft season arrives followed shortly after by the 2017-18 campaign, and we fire up the Anthony hot stove all over again. Are we having fun yet?!?

6. The Lakers are done playing games

Jeanie Buss means business if you didn’t gather from the Red Wedding she stunningly pulled on her brother Jim and Mitch Kupchak just 48 hours before the deadline. The same goes for Magic Johnson, who, upon ascending to his new perch as Lakers president of basketball operations, traded away Lou Williams, got the team involved on the Paul George front, and took calls on Nick Young, all faster than you could say “Abdul-Jabbar.”

Now none of those moves were game-changers in and of themselves, but they affirmed one message to Laker Nation: our long national nightmare is over. Johnson is already working to rebuild the franchise’s reputation in the eyes of marquee talents and scheming with new GM Rob Pelinka and the rest of the front office to put the Lakers in a position to realistically and financially be able to acquire that talent. So rival executives best be vigilant of no-look passes zipping by their ears, because it’s Showtime in Los Angeles again.

7. Doc Rivers is perfectly content to run it back again

Another team somewhat surprising in their silence this year was the Los Angeles Clippers, who took a pie to the face last deadline by swinging an eleventh-hour deal for Jeff Green, who played for the team for all of two months, in exchange for Lance Stephenson and a future first-rounder. Welp.

Perhaps the sting of that belly flop of a trade necessitated the exercise of more prudence this time around, but the Clips are in a good spot regardless. Merciful point god Chris Paul is on the verge of an early return from injury, and Blake Griffin has been Hellboy in basketball form since his own return.

While the temptation to gauge themselves against Golden State and panic into a Carmelo Anthony-type deal must have been enormous, there’s intrinsic value in the 2011 Dallas Mavericks model of keeping a nucleus intact for several seasons in the hope that they can eventually break through the glass ceiling. Though the Dubs have all but assured that the ceiling [commander-in-chief voice] just got ten feet higher, it sounds like that’s the conventional wisdom Doc Rivers is going for here.

8. The cavalry is coming behind Russell Westbrook

Those 10,000 “Save The Brodie” shirts I ordered off eBay were not purchased in vain.

Though the loss of Westbrook’s blood sworn dance partner, Cameron Payne, is absolutely devastating (not really), the reinforcements have arrived for our beloved triple-double addict. Doug McDermott will offer Billy Donovan a versatile offensive threat to close games with in those situations where the foul stench of Andre Roberson’s jumper is too much to bear. The addition of veteran forward Taj Gibson should also unlock a number of juicy tall-ball lineups next to Steven Adams in case rookie Domantas Sabonis isn’t ready for the bright lights of the postseason or if Enes Kanter isn’t the same upon returning from his upholstery-related injury.

All things considered, the cost is quite minimal for the Thunder. Joffrey Lauvergne proved to be little more than a 6-foot-11 whoopee cushion in the increased opportunity presented by Kanter’s absence, and Payne is a low-upside option at a position of abundance who simply hasn’t looked serviceable since undergoing foot surgery. With the Thunder only 3.5 games out of a top-four seed in the West, let Westbrook’s piercing battle cry shepherd the weak through the valley of darkness.

9. Is The Process still being trusted?

The trade of Nerlens Noel to Dallas was a bolt from the blue, especially since he had finally appeared to find his calling as a defensive dynamo sixth man for the Sixers. In selling off Noel, a Day One Process OG, is Jerry Colangelo beginning to trample all over the carefully-crafted sandcastle that his predecessor, the Honorable Sam Hinkie, built?

In conjunction with their earlier trade of Ersan Ilyasova to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the injured Tiago Splitter and two future second-rounders, Colangelo seems to be presiding over a radical shift in team-building strategy by the Philly front office. Gone are the days of building exclusively through the draft in favor of clearing out roster space and cap room, perhaps to work more closely with the free agency pool in future years.

With that in mind, dealing Noel, who is due for restricted free agency after the season, makes at least a remote inkling of sense, even if it’s still difficult to justify the late 180 of choosing to keep Jahlil Okafor over Noel. So while I can at least somewhat understand why Colangelo pulled the trigger, as a fanatical disciple of the Holy Gospel according to Hinkie, I can never forgive him.

10. Paul George survives the deadline

As it turns out, Larry Bird was just teasing us all along. Though the PG-13 fever dreams abounded from Boston to Los Angeles, George remains with the Pacers through the deadline. It’s an interesting way for Indy to maintain the outward appearance of long-term commitment to the four-time All-Star while also gathering intel as to what his trade value might be over the summer and come next season.

In the end, it stands to reason that the time wasn’t ripe for the picking to move George. The Pacers are still a playoff team and George is under contract through 2018. But as Carmelos and Butlers before us can attest, this by no means symbolizes the death of the rumor mill, for George or other potentially-available stars. So as winter gives way to spring gives way to the playoffs gives way to the summer, there shall be no rest for the weary. Long live the National Basketball Association.
