“sam left for college because he was secretly pining for dean” is honestly such a bad faith take on his character and i’ll never understand why it’s a majorly accepted headcanon. the show made it clear several times that sam wanted to get away from john and dean because of his desire for safety and freedom, he never felt safe in his family, and he couldn’t accept and make hunting his lifestyle (”no, i’m not like you. this is not going to be my life”). sam is allowed to want a separate life from dean and be his own person. it’s dean’s inability to accept it what pushes sam away from him and makes their dynamic so complex & tragic
