Love, the most ambiguous word one can find in any language; it has a meaning and a definition, both of which don’t always match.
Asking what it is, how it works, how it feels, is like throwing an interrogation to the wind and expecting someone to meet you halfway with an answer; to a certain degree, it’s useless.
Such feeling can’t be properly described by a concise answer, even when some pride themselves in encapsulating it with adjectives and things that mean something to them; love is ever changing, versatile, confusing and subjective.
To really know what love is, one needs to experience it, and even then, you’ll only know what a particular kind of love is to you, not even knowing what it is to the other person because it isn’t often that love means the same to two people, not even when those two are the ones in love.
Right now and just for a brief moment love meant the lack of space, the warmth of a body seeping into another, breaths mixing together and becoming one as they filled a room.
Just how love can mean many things, exactly how it changes, transforms, evolves, the person you love does too.
To you, Seungmin meant a friend, one that knew you like the back of his hand, a lover that took care of your heart gently, a man so admirable that everyday you felt full just by watching him give his all into everything he committed himself to. And as everyone does he had been a complete stranger once, one that quickly transformed into an absurdly important part of your life.
With him, love sometimes meant silent evenings spent basking simply in each other’s presence, some other days it was about taking care of the other, rubbing away the wrinkles of bad habits, ever so often it meant holding someone closer that it was physically possible, it meant cradling his soul with yours.
You blinked the tiredness away, wishing that movement was enough to give your whole body a rest from the somewhat uncomfortable position you found yourself in; pressed against Seungmin on a bed that was definitely meant for one person only.
The situation couldn’t be comfortable for him either but the soft smile caressing his lips could convince someone otherwise, not you though, that despite smiling with the same fondness felt the awkwardness of your limbs still trying to figure out exactly where they belonged in the assortment of your two bodies.
As if he could read your mind, Seungmin held the wrist of your right arm —seeing as your other was pressed flat against the mattress— and pressed it against the small of his back, subtly urging you to hold him close in the same way he did once his free arm encircled your waist and his legs tangled with yours.
One small giggle tumbled from your tongue before your bottom lip was trapped in between your teeth in a useless attempt to keep you quiet, but as soon as Seungmin himself began chuckling freely and unapologetically, you couldn’t stop from following suit.
The silence that had been ignored by the giddiness soaring from your hearts had been intimidating at first, like any change that happens in life, like love itself. Staying in his childhood bedroom, sharing a kid sized bed felt exactly the opposite, endearing at best.
With the whispered drag of an s against an h you asked him to turn silent despite desiring the exact opposite; his laugh, to you, was a blessing you had the luck of finding on such a charming person like him.
You didnt want to wake up his parents who probably were fast asleep at the end of the corridor and he seemed to notice that when he finally stifled his laugh and moments later stopped, mouth parted and curled into a grin despite the lack of sound emitting.
“How was it?” he whispered, breath tickling your lips and warming your heart.
That question didn’t seem like the kind one can easily answer, it was complicated despite the nonchalant appearance that it was presented in. The question meant much more, a mix of did you like the people that raised me and that I adore to death? and would you mind coming here more often, being part of my family?
It was no secret that you had been lately talking about what love meant between the both of you and what were the expectations that came with said opinion of the feeling that you had been sharing for a long time now.
Despite the complicated question and the many implications of it, you found yourself whispering, “it was great, your parents are really lovely,” without much hesitation, because whatever laid beyond the words he gave you, you wished to be able to answer with the affection and sincerity lacing your words.
He broke into a smile after your words faded on the warm air between the both of you, hand travelling to the back of your neck where his thumb rubbed gentle circles against your skin.
Right then and for a long moment, love meant saying things without words and conveying tricky feelings with closeness of the heart.
Pressing his lips against yours he got unimaginably closer to you, leaving no space between the both of you and saying many things just with the movement of his lips.
If it had been hard to breathe before now it was close to impossible but you found yourself not caring in the slightest once your fingers percolated like the air through his shirt, finally reaching the soft skin of his waist.
Love, an elaborated concept that might take paragraph after paragraph to fully explain but one that you finally think you understand as Seungmin writes a detailed book about it with just his lips and hands.
