a question for Children of Dust sequel: how the all school situation is managed? In Italy homeschooling is illegal, unless for a very dramatic healt situation, so the kids must go to school, even for not arise suspicions, but how?
High school is very specific: liceo and istituto professionale aren't the same thing, liceo is most prestigious kind of secondary school in Italy, where you learn Latin, 1 or 2 languages and ancient Greek ( this only in liceo classico, the most posh ) while the istituto professione prepares for a manual job. They're public but there are private school too, some owned by privates and others ownes by the church ( maybe owning half monastero give some benefits? )
The twins had to go, this could be help them to learn Italian, and even Toscan dialect, but the couldn't miss too many days... too many abscences = you must repeat the year and this is suspuscious
I somehow missed this, sorry for the late answer!
To be honest, I only read a little about schooling in Italy when I decided the twins and Berlermo would live there. What I read led to me believe that while homeschooling is technically legal but very uncommon. So I think Berlermo would play all the cards they have so that they can homeschool the twins. While suspicious, it's less suspicious than the alternative. With many absences for travels and heists and family shenanigans, and also the twins being young young to not be trusted not to babble about what their family does in school, to teachers and friends, etc, the only option they have is to homeschool the kids.
The first time the twins go to school after their life in Argentina is in Madrid when they go to Alison's school as undercovers. However, a lot of effort and thought is put into their education. Sergio and Martín spend a lot of time teaching the kids, plus they get expert private tutors and so. And while not going to school obviously affects the speed of them absorbing the language, they do still end up fluent in Italian. They live there and even aside from school still end up with friends and social interactions, plus both Martín and Jakov speak the language and interact in it with the kids enough.
