honestly when i heard that chihayafuru was ending on volume 49 i was so shocked and in disbelief because i already made a whole timeline in my head about how long the final match would be, the aftermath of those results, and a possible timeskip scene lol so i assumed volume 50 was definitely needed.

but now looking at the breakdown of each queen/meijin match it makes sense we only have a few chapters left:

first match: chapters 218-219 (queen - shinobu win), 218-220 (meijin - arata win)

break: chapter 220

second match: chapters 220-225 (queen - shinobu win), 220-226 (meijin - arata win)

break: chapters 226-227

third match: chapters 227-229 (queen - chihaya win), 227-230 (meijin - suou win)

break: chapter 231

fourth match: chapters 232-235 (meijin - suou win), 232-236 (queen - chihaya win)

break: chapters 237-239

final match: ch 240-ongoing

with each match taking ~2-6 chapters, and we’re currently on 242 chapters released (which is 3 chapters into the fifth match already), i’m thinking chapter 244 will be the final chapter for the final match, with arata winning the meijin match first and chihaya winning the queen match near the end of the chapter. and then suetsugu will take ~1-2 chapters to wrap up all the reactions to the wins/losses and conclude the story (hopefully with a potential look into the future) :’)
