hey so we put your morally grey character in a fandom. yeah half the fanbase makes them into a perfect angel who did nothing wrong and the other half depicts them as a cartoonishly evil villain who hurts people for fun. no we dont know how to explain that people can do bad things for good reasons or good things for bad reasons. sorry man

Here’s Part Two of my look at Sanders Sides Couples.

This will cover the Deceit/Janus ships. These are looking at them in the eyes of the cannon and seeing if they were work or not. These could be taken as my personal opinions, but given I’ll be talking shit about my favorite couples... yeah...

Roceit (Roman/Janus) - Now this is one of my favorite Janus’s ships if I’m honest. But, honesty, they wouldn’t work at all for each other. As we’ve established, Roman has a problem with putting people down to boost his own ego. We saw this at the end of SvS Redux with him making fun of Janus’s name after the others started to trust him. And Janus lashed back, which wasn’t the smartest thing to do, but made sense as I’d have done the same thing.

Then, turning to SvS itself, the court room, Janus had used Roman’s role against him. Janus was trying to gain ground by proving to the others that going to the callback was better, but, as we saw, this ended badly. He felt bad for it, using Roman, but it didn’t change that he did it. (I often see this is a sign that Janus is ‘Unsympathetic’ but I don’t see that. Janus did admit in SvS Redux that he applauded Roman for being selfless, even if it didn’t serve any purpose in the end. Which, he was right.)

This couple would need to work hard at understanding each other to work. Again Roman would need to work on his need to insult people to feel validation. And Janus needs to understand where the line is before he could do anything.

Loceit (Logan/Janus) - I tend to be impartial to this one, on the one hand, it’s cute, on the other, it’s eye rolling. But, cannon wise, I’d say that Logan and Janus are the only ones that I haven’t seen at each other throats. As we aren’t sure if at the end of SvS redux if Janus had harmed Logan in any way before taking his place, if he was Logan the entire time, or if Logan is upset at Janus.

I’d say no, as Logan seemed more upset at the others that they didn’t seem concern about him after the climax was over. Actually, out of all the time Janus has impersonated Logan, I’ve never seen Logan be angry at Janus. Just either disappointed or slightly annoyed. Casually calling him out, or just rolling his eyes. But, unlike with the others, I’ve only seen once where Janus has been openly mean or hateful to Logan.  The only thing that could be taken as that is when he puts Logan on the bench in SvS, courtroom scene. But, given Logic wasn’t apart of the conversations, as this was about Thomas’s feelings more than anything else, it made sense. But he still did call Logan to the stand and got his opinion and let him speak. And granted he did say this is ‘benched trial for you’ putting him in the far back. As yeah, Logic had no part. Again, Logan asks like he’s mildly annoyed at this, and not angry angry. 

Though, out of all the Janus ships, I’d say Loceit is the most stable. They seem to listen to each other, and through out the series each interaction seems to be mild annoyance, to, dare I say it ‘fondness’? Not sure there, this couple confuses me to no end.  You’re guys thoughts?

Anxceit (Virgil/Janus) - Ohohoh boy, this pairing. Toxic as hell! Granted we don’t know much about Virgil and Janus’s past, but what we do see. They would NOT make it as a couple at all. Virgil is constantly putting Janus down, not wanting to talk to him, or even let him be heard to Thomas. Even going as far as to say in SvS that Janus and ‘his friends’ (ie Remus, and maybe Orange (not confirmed yet).) shouldn’t be allowed to do things like what Janus did in that episode. Aka be heard or allowed control of a situation. And Janus is openly manipulative, putting down, and sarcastic in a mean way to Virgil. Clearly seen in SvS where he riles up Virgil, Virgil calls him a liar, and he riels him up again. (We know with Roman, Janus felt bad, but we don’t know if he does with Virgil just yet.)

Then again in Can Lying Be Good with them pretty much just undermining each other with some insults and such.  These two CLEARLY have some issues in the past. And until that resolved, I don’t think as a couple they’d work in cannon. Because insulting each other the way they do, it’d be bad. The only instant I can think of any ‘fondness’ used was when Janus lost his cool at the end of SvS and Virgil was smirking at that. If you an call that ‘fondness’ really I think Virgil was just enjoying Janus’s melt down (granted all were.)

Moceit (Patton/Janus) - This is one I don’t pair alot myself, as I don’t particularly like it. I’ve always seen them as the divorced couple who are having to wrangle their kids together. That being said, I’d see this i a fence couple. Unlike with Logan and Janus, I can find a few instances were Janus was manipulative and a little rude to Patton. Such as in SvS where he was implying Patton was being immoral and among other things. Or in Can Lying Be Good as he was impersonating Patton to be heard to Thomas. Unlike where he impersonated Logan to be logical, he was impersonating Morality to put Thomas in a morally compromising situation. Granted, Janus had a point in the situation, but still. 

But as there are these there are fond moments too. At the end of SvS Redux, where they share a smile, where Patton trusts Janus to take care of Thomas, or where Janus didn’t call Morality/Patton misleading Thomas on purpose. Even stating that he think Patton didn’t do it on purpose.  He’s not trying to make Patton the bad guy, even if in past Eps it seemed like this. We don’t know if he feels bad for these moments or not, we’ll see. 

But for now, this couple could work, if even time to understand each other and have equal footing in Thomas’s life. Right now, it’s heading there, but it’s rocky at best. Until Thomas allows them equal footing, they will be at odds with each other, as Morality can be quiet dominating in Thomas’s life.

My thoughts: This fic is So Freaking Good, my friends. It has real estate in at least 86% of my brain. I love going back to reread my favorite parts, and sometimes when I’m rewatching episodes I’ll catch myself thinking of the fic. Right now it’s the Christmas episode bc I’m in big time daydream mode about what the current arc is going to bring. It’s got big Found Family energy, and I eat that stuff right up. It is so heart-warming to watch Virgil grow closer to them. And, yeah, the Prinxiety owns my ass. It is some real Slow Burn shit, and the little glances and soft interactions.... oh goodness. And there’s suspense too, with all the barriers Virgil has built, and the secrets he keeps. For the love of everything, give this fic a try. 

To Build A Home by AValorousChoice

Status: Completed

Summary: "There was a long silence as Virgil processed the words, his eyes darting between the pair of them. “Y-You-” he swallowed heavily. “You want to adopt me?” This was a joke. Surely, it was a joke. Nobody ever wanted him. Nobody had ever shown the slightest bit of interest in adopting him. Virgil never believed he was good enough for a loving family until the day that Patton and Logan walked into the orphanage.

My thoughts: Another Found Family for y’all. So this one is a kid!fic, which I don’t read a lot of, but have found some Really Good ones over the years. I grow really attached to characters when it feels like I’ve watched them grow up. Probably has to do with my love for character development, though not every kid!fic will have that. This one, actually, takes place over the course of less than a year of Virgil’s life after Logan and Patton adopt him. It deals with trauma and finding a place Virgil feels he belongs and is equally full of hope as it is fear. Again, watching Virgil grow close to his family - Patton, Logan, Roman, and some marvelous OCs - is so precious. And shout-out to Roman in this one bc he is the cutest, weirdest freaking kid you will ever read, and I would protect him with my life. The next one in the series is actually all about him and advances forward to when they’re teens (at which point I come across a lot of moments where I’m like “omg they’ve grown so much my heart”).

My thoughts: The funniest thing in my GD LIFE. Get this; they’re all in character, but the author has amped up their chaos levels times 100. They are undeniably themselves and it’s to an extreme. I freaking love it. And the multimedia style is so entertaining. It keeps the story at a fast pace and creates a great setting and diverse character interaction. That interaction includes banter and absolutely absurd and relatable content. Everyone’s friendships are undeniable bc they’re constantly roasting one another but you can tell they’d kill for each other. So good. This fic is so good. Please go read.

CW: Implied/Referenced Character Death, Parental Death, Spiders, Animal Cruelty, Swearing, Arguing, Physical Confrontation 

My thoughts: Magical realism, secrets, excellent characterization. The border between reality and magic in this AU is seamless. I love the normality of magic in these types of stories, and this one didn’t even have magic as a Thing for most of the world. Magic wasn’t a regular thing, yet the author made it so normal to Virgil’s life... it was phenomenal. And the character interactions... they are so sweet on each other omg. And it isn’t really rushed either. There is time skips, but they don’t break apart the fic too harshly, instead enhancing the time they’ve gotten to know one another. Deceit’s character is so much fun too. He doesn’t take shit, but he also really cares. And the whole uncovering Virgil’s life is so interesting, both what we know and the characters don’t, or stuff we don’t know and Virgil won’t talk about. It creates excellent tension. So I guess I have to go read Practical Magic now (which this fic is based off of) and you have to go read this.

His dreams are so strong in fact, that they can unknowingly pull others in, bending them to the will of the story he is creating. So what happens when he dreams up a Prince, and finds he needs somebody to play the role?

My thoughts: So it’s set in canon in place of AA. Which means we get some lovely angst in the form of Virgil thinking everyone hates him. And I’m super stoked to watch him get that Acceptance he deserves. You know what we call that? Growth. Let’s get that character development y’all. For now, however, he’s in Roman’s dreamworld and trying to make sure Roman doesn’t realize it’s actually him or he’ll get kicked out of the best thing in his life. So we have secrets, which creates great tension, and things going... strange in the dreamworld. Also, the Prinxiety is cute as heck - loving that slow burn holy crip - alright go read it.

You know what. I'm pissed

I'm pissed because I am scared to go to the bathroom at my school. I'm Non binary Gender fluid and I either use the ONLY non gendered bathroom(Which is just the teacher bathroom that I have permission to use) or just any of the other bathrooms. I'm so fucking mad that one time the teacher bathroom was being used so I went to go use the mens room because it was closer and the women's room was on the floor below. So I'm about to walk in when this kid who I know is a homophobic, transphobic, racists, anti vaxer, asshole walk in. For context I'm AFAB, mixed race, and very open about my gender and sexuality at a school where people will purposely tell new kids my dead name and tell them to use "She/her" pronouns for me instead of my real name and "they/them" I see him go in and my first reaction was to instantly look for my pocket knife I carry with me for emergencies or if I need it. I then realized I had left it in my bag and decided that the likely hood of me being bullied or kicked out of the bathroom, or even fucking hate crimed was too likely so I walked down to the women's room. I hate that I have to feel THIS unsafe to use the fucking bathroom

THEN when I explained this to one of my cis friends he was just like "That doesn't actually happen" "That's unrealistic" and I'm like "There have been MANY cases where LGBT+ people were beat up in bathrooms by LGBT+phobes. People have been hate crimed in so many places, but sure it's totally unrealistic and it never happens, and I totally don't carry a knife with me everywhere for safety and it's a realistic and understandable " so yah I'm pissed

Sander Sides Theory

I love unsympathetic!Patton AU’s so much and heres why. I’ve always had a theory about Patton and the fact that he is the most controlling and “evil” of the sides. Yes we are still talking about Patton Sanders.

Patton is the reason there are “Light” and “Dark” sides. Patton is the one who stoped Roman from ever slightly agreeing with Janus when we met him. Patton is Janus’s opposite and has the biggest problem with him, so it makes sense that the other sides will also have videos where they face their opposite. But we have Roman and Remus and they barley interact with each other that video. Patton is the one who has the biggest problem with Remus. He’s also the entire reason Remus and Roman are separated. He shunned them out. Now in the first video Janus is in Roman seems opposed to him but agree’s with him some times and Patton makes him feel guilty for that, but when Patton accepts Janus and Roman(Who has just been told that he was bad by Patton and changed his mind about Janus after he was manipulated by him) still is opposed to him Patton tells him off. He tells Roman that “No janus is good we accept him now” when the ENTIRE VIDEO and other past videos he’s saying “Janus is bad we can’t trust him” Patton controls EVERYONE has has control over who is accepted and who get’s a say in things
