OC Interview Questions - Nature: rosette, rice sheaf, evergreen, cactus, and seedling
[nature oc interview questions]
🏵️ [ROSETTE] What flower symbolises your OC best and why? What does the flower mean in floriography?
I talked a little about flower symbolism for Nora in this post under the bouquet heading. If I had to pick just one of those for her, I think it would be zinnias, for remembering absent loved ones. She spends a lot of time looking back and missing people.
🌾 [RICE SHEAF] How picky is your OC with food? What will and won’t they eat?
Pre-War, she wasn't very picky at all. She's lactose intolerant and therefore avoided dairy, and doesn't like overly sweet foods, but she doesn't have any food allergies and there are no textures that really put her off.
Post-War, she's still not picky about vegan/vegetarian meals, but is extremely picky about anything with meat in it. She won't eat bugs, despite them being a common source of protein in the Commonwealth, and is only comfortable eating things like radstag and brahmin after a long while. She never eats any meat she doesn't know the source of, and really prefers to make her own meals. She also won't eat any pre-War canned/boxed stuff, unless she absolutely has to.
🌲 [EVERGREEN] What does your OC’s dream treehouse look like? What tree is it built upon?
Her dream treehouse would be like something out of the 1960 Swiss Family Robinson, but in something like a redwood and very high up--lots of space for her, her family, and all their hobbies. And window boxes for flowers--lots of flowers.
🌵 [CACTUS] How physically resilient is your OC?
Pretty resilient. She has a high pain tolerance that only gets higher the longer she's in the wasteland and more/worse injuries she sustains. After the vertibird crash that shatters her leg, she has to deal with chronic pain. It's less that she's resilient and more that she just has to deal with it.
🌱 [SEEDLING] What new passions/hates is your OC discovering?
Farming is probably the biggest one for her. She was an enthusiastic gardener pre-War, and helping with the Sanctuary Hills greenhouse is one of her favorite pastimes. It's a bonus that it helps more people than just her.
She's also a pretty enthusiastic synth mechanic. no points for guessing where that started
Her seething, gut-churning hatred for Kellogg and the Institute isn't something that can really be overlooked. She gets kind of brutal with it. She doesn't care for the Gunners either.
#tysm for the ask!!#i love talking food it's so good for worldbuilding#i need to get into the nitty gritty of what foods there are in the wastes because the sanctuary hills gang DEFINITELY eats dinner together#autumn.oc#oc: nora navarre#incidentally my dream treehouse is also the one from 1960 swiss family robinson#that movie had such an impact on me as a kid#but only in the way i build my jungle biome minecraft houses in the present#literally don't remember anything else but the treehouse#it's so cool#anyway. nora has a history of substance addiction so she's hesitant to take chems like med x#which is just part of why the broken leg and its aftermath is so bad for her

A/n: I hope you all enjoy, and if you liked, please leave a like! 💖💖💖💖

Chan
- doesn't know almost anything about Minecraft the first time around but he plays with you to make you happy
- you have to baby him for a while
- BUT THEN!
- He goes and learns about the game in his free time
- and then he pleasantly surprises you now that you he doesn't suck anymore
- and most peculiar of all
- he got really interested in redstone
- boi can make some INVENTIONS
- His house is like, fully automated - farm and all
- it makes you jealous but also very proud
- a pretty big pacifist
- shears, veggies and bread is all he needs
- he still big soft baby but he smart baby now
- also, would totally run around with a pumpkin on his head if you could still wear them in the latest version
Lee Know
- would kill everything that moves
- would hoard all the meat and refuse to give you any
- deforestation at its finest
- king of surplus
- playing with him is actually playing by yourself cuz he goes off on his own
- builds himself a goddamn empire!
- and no one knows where it is
- if he catches you inside his house without permission: shoot first, ask questions never
- mobs fear him, not the other way around
- will give you items cuz you're a charity cause
- actually shares when you both go mining though
- but let's face it, he's just OP
- would try to get all the cats
- totally to chase away creepers
- not because he wants an army of them or anything
- gets annoyed that he has to constantly fish because the cats keep taking them but won't be tamed by him
- he totally did not search for mine shafts just for name tags to name his cats
- DO NOT HURT HIS CATS
- or he'd cancel you in-game and irl too
Changbin
- would be super excited to play Minecraft with his friends
- he would be the first on the server to scout out the land and get resources
- however, no one warned him about night fall
- and all the creepy, scary things that spawned
- changbin lives in the ground now
- he dug a hole at the base of the mountain to take refuge during the night and never looked back
- normal person? No way! He was a mole now!
- the best at mining and interior rock design
- he would only resurface to seek out food and animals
- it was Changbin who stole all the cows and sheep, so you couldn't find them for felix
- he would have three large pins just next to his mountain
- lots of cows, rainbow sheep and pigs with saddles
- " uh...so I found these pins of animals and like...no house?"
- "What?"
- "I think the magical Minecraft fairy spawned it into the world?"
- "It's super weird. But I'm gonna kill some cows for their leather"
- "DON'T YOU TOUCH MY COWS!"
- and to your shock, a secret door in the mountain opens and Changbin comes running out
- the door made courtesy of Chan
- "He's got a diamond sword already?!?"
- it's the last thing you scream as he kills you for being near his cows
- and after a round of feeding and breeding, he disappears back into his hole
Hyunjin
- would only be about building
- he would be the first one to have a diamond pickaxe just so he could mine cobblestone faster
- would also get efficiency V just so he could speed run through the mines
- would wander through different biomes for days to collect clay so he could make concrete
- and while you're busy actually playing the game, he would beg for you to pick flowers on your trip so he can dye the concrete different colors
- his first house would be a mansion
- but he would give up half way because he kept falling off the roof and dying
- would forget he is actually playing the game and would get scared when night falls and mobs start spawning in his unlit house
- not like you didn't tell him countless times to put down torches
- but he kept saying they ruined his aesthetic
- but now he keeps dying because mobs are literally waiting at his spawn point, killing him over and over and over again
- and he begs you to set the time to day and kill the mobs for him
- but you just laugh uncontrollably at him because karma really is a bitch
- but in the end, he ends up making an entire city, and invites the others to come and play on the server.
Jisung
- would be just like Chan
- a pure ass baby when it comes to playing minecraft, but super eager to play the game
- his first spawn would be in the middle of the night (because of server)
- and you would try to tell him to not leave the safety of spawn, but he just wouldn't listen
- "Listen, Y/n, I know what I'm doing! I'm a pro at this!"
- and he would run confidently into the night, like the actual idiot that he is
- he wouldn't get too far before he was attacked by all the mobs and got killed
- "Well that was just rude!"
- "Oh my god Jisung, I told you not to do it."
- "Well how was I supposed to know they were going to kill me?!"
- and you can only shake your head at his stupidity
- he would eventually wait until daytime, but unfortunately all of his items would be lost due to despawning
- it's not like either one of you were equipped to go and retrieve his items
- zombies sucked man! And skeletons are the worst!
- but with a new day comes a new adventure and you both head out to find a place to call home
- Jisung would run the entire way, even though he had no food to keep his hunger up
- he also wouldn't be paying attention to where he was going and would fall into a hole
- a very BIG hole
- 'J.One fell from a high place'
- "Really Jisung?"
- "I couldn't see it!"
- playing with Jisung would be a very challenging task, because he would never learn
- because by the time he had diamond armor and ready to fight the wither, he would have fallen from fifteen cliffs, twenty holes in caves and three ravines
- "Jisung if you die one more time I swear to god!"
- 'J.One fell from a high place'
- "That's it! I quit!"
Felix
- You would be so hyped to play with Felix
- You've seen him play other games, so you knew he'd be great at minecraft
- Getting the server had been his idea, the easiest way everyone could play together
- First day of spawn, Felix would already be listing off the things that you would need to accomplish
- wood, cobblestone, iron, seeds, sheep
- it was all just so overwhelming
- by the time you make your first complete set of wooden tools, felix would have iron tools already
- he'd been ten feet underground, digging for more resources while tasking you to find the animals for food, wool and feathers
- easier said then done
- and when he resurfaces and you don't have animals, he would simply sigh and go do it himself
- which would upset you because you would spend hours looking for just one god damn cow
- meanwhile, Felix would take five steps in one direction and come across hundreds of cows!!!
- WHERE DID ALL THESE COWS COME FROM?!?!?
- he'd travel the whole map just to find a jungle to get coco beans
- seriously though, how did he find the fucking jungle?
- it like doesn't exist
- except it does and Minho most likely lives there with all his cats
- Also, there's pandas!!!!!
- Felix would try and tame a panda, even though it's not possible
- When not trying to show off, Felix would be in his crappy little hut (cause hyunjin was still making the city), making cookies and cakes because why wouldn't he?
- at least he shares, unlike someone.....
- Felix would be absolutely unstoppable at the game, while you struggle to get to iron level armor (while trying to keep Jisung alive)
- Felix would have just a big ego
- it's okay though. One strike from Seungmin's sword and he'd be put back into his place
- Revenge is a dish best served Seungmin.
Seungmin
- the worst of the worst
- he would be the one to pretend to not know the game
- but really, he would be a minecraft expert
- read: troll
- every chance he would get, Seungmin would try to do something to ruin your day
- don't ever go mining with him. EVER!
- he would be the one to lead over a creeper to you in a ravine while you're trying to mine diamonds, right next to a lava pool
- the first one to explode wouldn't do any damage, thankfully
- "Don't you dare bring a creeper over here!"
- "I wouldn't."
- somehow, you wouldn't be convinced
- but you decided to trust him
- y/n clown
- you're just mining away at the diamond when a big explosion happens
- and you notice two things
- 1. the diamonds and the surrounding area were blown up
- 2. you were now in the pool of lava, dying
- meanwhile, Seungmin was running away, cackling like the evil little shit that he was
- the holy terror, that's what they would call him
- he would purposefully go out and fight creepers just to gather their gunpowder so he could make dynamite
- no one was safe from him
- except Minho
- because no one knew where he was
I.N.
- Jeongin would spend at least two days researching things for the game before actually playing
- he would want to have some knowledge before walking into hell that was the Stray Kids server
- it's okay though, because everyone loves Jeongin
- really, he wouldn't need to do a thing
- diamond armor, enchanted? check
- enchanted weapons? check
- his own cat and dog? double check
- everyone would do anything for this baby
- but Jeongin isn't one to mooch *coughJisungcough*
- even with all his presents, he would still start with the basics of punching a tree
- while others have found this skills in cooking, mining, falling into holes, redstone and building
- jeongin would be more interested in potions and enchanting
- YOU'RE A WIZARD INNIE!
- Jeongin would quickly master potion brewing
- even if it meant battling the scary blazes in the nether
- huh, so that's why Changbin was screaming so much
- he would be hired by Minho to make him potions of breathing so he could go claim an ocean monument
- Jeongin would only do it if he could help
- surprisingly Minho agrees and for the first time in 84 years, everyone gets to see Minho's character

30 days - 30 ideas
i have so many ideas of little things to include in animal crossing games (new horizons and the future), so i wrote one a day on twitter counting down to new horizons’ release, and i thought i’d compile them all here for easy reading now that the list is complete and new horizons is only hours away. (note that some of these were posted before the direct/other information was released, so they may be a little outdated, but what can you do.) let’s go!
day 30: observatory. (i said little but this is the biggest one.) i want the observatory back. but more: imagine if we could learn about real world stars, planets, and constellations like we do bugs, fish, etc. in the museum. & visiting opposite hemisphere towns would teach more!
day 29: combining villager personalities & essences/natures (pocket camp) to create more varied villagers and dialogue. also species' traits. a peppy, natural bunny (dotty) would be very different from a peppy, cute squirrel (peanut).
day 28: be able to combine certain fish or bugs into one container in your house, so you can have a personal mini aquarium or habitat. also, please let us change the type of container (and give fish more space in theirs so it's not so depressing).
day 27: let us refurbish (almost) all items. i'm willing to give a pass on event/gracie items because they're supposed to be special, but otherwise. i hate having a piece that fits the theme but doesn't match and you can't refurbish. (this includes rugs, flooring, wallpaper.)
day 26: different wrapping papers for presents. the wrapping paper in pocket camp is so cute, much cuter than the yellow sacks we get to buy in new leaf. i'd send so many wrapped presents to my neighbors!
day 25: let us build big pwps/amenities that we and the villagers can interact with. bonus if they're seasonal: an ice skating rink in winter, swimming pool in summer, ferris wheel in the spring... riding a ferris wheel with cherry blossoms blowing? sign me up.
day 24: (another big one) a way to change gender, and a nonbinary gender option. in new leaf, i had a lot of friends stop playing entirely because their avatar no longer matched them after coming out as trans, but they didn't want to delete their whole town, so they felt stuck.
day 23: let villagers catch fish and bugs instead of just perpetually trying with no reward. while it's cute to watch them stalk bugs in the bug off, never seeing them catch any makes me feel sad for them!
day 22: choose held items in dream towns (dream towns better still be a thing). a small detail, but most of my characters carry wands or balloons but can't in dream towns. and when your dream is set on a rainy day, you always default to a red umbrella no matter what.
day 21: sound configuration options. (apparently you can change the volume of kk slider songs playing but i wrote this before that, okay?) not just those, but being able to turn up/down/off hourly music, ambient noises, effects, etc. i'd love to turn up the sound of the ocean!
day 20: SUNFLOWERS. well, new flowers in general, but specifically sunflowers! they're my favorite, and we need tall flowers in the game. plus everyone went wild over the sunflower event in pocket camp.
day 19: more things to do with villagers together. not just going to each other's houses, but inviting to the roost, bug hunting, apple picking, etc. would be SO cute! and that *we* can invite *them*, not just wait for a random ping.
day 18: combine “traditional” events and holidays with wild world events for a fuller calendar. i LOVE the unique wild world events, but taking out toy day, halloween, etc. was also a mistake. the wild world events would fill in those months where major holidays don't happen.
day 17: multiplayer islands to live on with friends. now, nintendo is FAR behind the times with multiplayer, so i don't expect this if ever, but i want it. i want to make a town with my online friends, like a minecraft server. please.
day 16: side jobs. no obligation to do them at a given time or at all, but something extra and fun. working at the roost is a great example, and i'd love to see more: villager home designer, shopkeeper, restaurant chef... these would especially be great later in the game.
day 15: diagonal furniture. please. i like putting things kitty corner and some items, like the basket chair, just don't look right without that.
day 14: let villagers write random posts on the bulletin board again! it was one of my favorite things about wild world.
day 13: more interactive items, for both players and villagers. we've seen villagers reading books and eating ice cream, which is great, but it bothered me that they couldn't play on the jungle gym pwp and stuff!
day 12: let us layer small, tabletop items. PLEASE. clutter looks so much better and realistic when layering is an option, like in the sims.
day 11: remove restrictions on where we can plant palm trees and cedar trees. it never even made sense that cedar trees could only be planted on the top half of the town, but nothing we've seen so far hints at this changing.
day 10: customizable community buildings. one of my favorite parts of happy home designer was designing our own shops, hotel, concert hall, etc. they really made my main street feel unique, especially compared to new leaf's main street where everything's the same (minus unlocks).
day 9: let villagers swim! i want to have cute beach days with my villagers but not if they're stuck on the land.
day 8: ceiling items. please don't take away our ceiling items. we saw a pinata that could potentially be, but that's it (even the hanging plant was converted to a wall item). and, while they were a great addition in HHD, there were very few ceiling items. i'd love a LOT more!
day 7: minigames! at the very least, bring desert island escape back, but i'd love to see much more. a mix of amiibo festival minigames and the one in nintendoland would be great, as well as some new ones. especially if they're multiplayer to play with friends!
day 6: create-a-villager! i don't expect them to be villagers actually in the game, but it could be neat as a little side thing. when hacking new leaf was big, there were a ton of cute and creative fan-made villagers just made with retextures, and i'd love to see more.
day 5: nocturnal villagers and activities. i LOVE nighttime, it's so relaxing, but you also run out of things to do (or, pocket space, if you like nighttime fishing like me). at least residential services will let you sell your fish 24 hours a day, but i'd like a bit more to do.
day 4: something to replace streetpass/the HHA showcase. i loved seeing people's houses, and being able to order from them in new leaf was a nice bonus. i'd love something similar with our friends list, a mix between that and what we had in city folk.
day 3: deeper lore on special NPCs. we have a lot on the able sisters and the nooks, even some on brewster and blathers, but i want to know more about the others! what's pascal's story? we know nothing about him, he just... pops up randomly.
day 2: more weather events/phenomena. red moons, eclipses, blizzards, hail, MOONBOWS... there are so many neat weather things in the world!
day 1 (WE MADE IT!): biome DLC. i've been asking for different terrains/biomes since before happy home designer, where we got to choose those. even though new horizons is set on an island, it's still a standard biome with four equal seasons. i'd LOVE dlc that allows us to make a snowy mountainside home, or a home like the PNW where it mostly rains and snow is uncommon. or a tropical town with sunshine and palm trees abound. bonus if the DLC means we can have more than one town per console. please, i need it.

Adventures in Valheim
Yesterday, Dan invited me to play Valheim. Honestly, I was a bit nervous about doing so. I thought Valheim was "Minecraft, but with Vikings." See, while I like lots of things about Minecraft--its quirkiness, its depth, the way it encourages individual expression, the survival aspect--it has never had its hooks in me. Once I get past the initial survival stage--trying to race oncoming night to build a safe place, then scrabbling around in an attempt to find food and resources--I quickly get bored. Once I've made a safe place to live and bolstered my defenses, the only gameplay loop available is to make a more luxurious safe place, farm resources more effectively, and fashion better defenses... rinse, wash, repeat.
Ehhhhh.
So I tried playing variations on the Minecraft formula, from adding mods to playing games inspired by it, but no luck. Terraria and Starbound come to mind. "Ah," quoth I. "I've survived the night in this basic tree hut. After I survive tomorrow, I will build a wall around my hut. Then I will prepare a plot of ground for a garden. And after I've built the garden, I'll... uh... catch a cow... and a sheep... and uh... survive another day, but with a nicer house... and then I survive another day, but now I have a better sword?... after which... I'll be completely self-reliant, and... I think I'd rather take a nap, actually." However, I DEEPLY enjoyed Valheim. There was something wonderfully satisfying about racing through a thick sunlit forest while the branches of Yggdrasil glint faintly overhead, then punching a boar to death with my bare fists. It's so fun to build a fort to protect against a living forest that wants my blood. My character has dreams that tell a story of a Viking warrior, and she wanders a trackless wilderness where only spirits go, and she still hasn't figured out how to dodge roll because it's about as intuitive as rubbing your head and your belly at the same time. Which made me realize that my issue with Minecraft was chiefly about "story" and how I insert myself into a narrative. In Valheim, I get to pretend I'm a deathless warrior of Odin who really enjoys chasing down deer on foot and seeks the glory of battle with wicked spirits. Whereas in Minecraft, you're just some guy? You can present yourself any manner of ways (my avatar looks like Ronald McDonald) and prepare a world to live in (mine cowers before the might of my McSandwiches), but there's no real identity to Minecraft other than its graphical presentation and the crafting mechanic (which I deeply resent for the way it's infiltrated every game on earth regardless of how well it fits, but that's another story). Minecraft's theme is a basic one of human versus wild and very little else. Here's a tree, here is a cow and a sheep and a pig, yes you use them all exactly the way you think you should. The biomes change, but I'm very rarely excited by my discoveries: of course this is what a jungle looks like, of course this is what a forest looks like. The few surprises I've ever marveled at--villages full of villagers, house-sized mushrooms and witches in the swamp biomes, dungeons and monster-spawners, the Nether, baby zombies, and once, for some reason, a mountain-sized perfect orb of earth (????)--are just not enough to carry the game by themselves. One of my problems is that I'm a neophile and I thrive on surprises and novelties; the other is that the game loop has to give me a constant dopamine rush. Minecraft's gameplay loop is satisfied as soon as I can appropriately take care of myself, which is almost right away. So the challenge is over too fast, more or less. Yeah, I could certainly dream up perfect or complex solutions for various problems, like a lot of Minecraft players do--bless 'em, they are impressive and I don't want to put that down--but I don't need a diamond sword to kill zombies and I don't see any reason to get one when iron does just as well. Valheim demands constant struggle, and I think that helps immensely. Resources are JUST difficult enough to source, challenges are JUST difficult enough to keep you on your toes the whole time, and the skill requirements ramp up over time. Also, it helps that Dan is showing me how to follow the plot, which is just shy of Minecraft-esoteric: you kill a boss, you take its power, then you seek out another boss to take its power, which requires certain skills. I could have gotten stuck in a gameplay loop in the Meadows, and I'm sure that eventually I would have found it boring. Chasing the story, often outside of my comfort zone, has been immensely rewarding. Again, it helps that Valheim has a story. In Minecraft, one of the only equivalents is fighting a mob boss like the Nether dragon or the Wither, battles that you have to look up in a Wiki to perform correctly, and after a few minutes of gameplay.... okay that's it bye. It's just a thing that happens, about as equivalent as invading a dungeon and fighting a lot of Blazes. I'm sure they've introduced more mob bosses since, but I'm also sure they're just "things that happen." "Things that happen" is almost guaranteed with randomly generated worlds, so you can't be angry at them for it. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I just had to find a game that hit that sweet spot. Gotta feel like progression matters. Gotta feel like I'm always on the edge of success, but never quite getting there. Want to feel like I can escape from the world, so the game world itself has got to feel like a unique place. Pretty graphics also help immensely. So Valheim hits that sweet spot for me. The image I have included is courtesy of Dan, who removed the GUI. Our characters are sitting in the mouth of a troll cave, where I had just died because I suddenly couldn't remember how to dodge-roll and got smashed into a pancake. It was weirdly comforting to sit by a fire while the rain pounded down outside.
