alrighty take a seat and lemme start with my angel ocs uwu

Universo - so far my fave out of the angels- shush! guys been through a lot and honestly so far other than dealing with a target on his back he and Anthony are engaged now and currently taking care of both Penn and Daisy. (well i mean- guess its Daisy at the moment ROSE)

Damion - Universo’s older brother, kind hearted guy who messes with dreams, currently living with his father and mother along with his fiance, guy aint the fighting type like his brother. more of a healer than a fighter

Nicolas - a small warrior angel who spends a lot of his time running around the place hunting rogue angels and making sure they are removed of their wings, guy is very polite and is really kind and happy for someone who believes he lacks a real purpose.

Josiah - kind guy who used to be in a trio with Nicolas and Christine, nowadays he sticks with Christine out of fear of her turning on him like she did Nicolas, calling him a traitor and is after him. currently stressed and honestly just wants his friends to get along again, hes not really the violent type

Christine - hates, absolutely LOATHES Nicolas’ existence, she wants to cut off his wings for just leaving the group and going on his own,  she thinks he’s helping the enemy and is up to something. She’s currently at risk of losing her own wings and doesnt believe it.

Elizabeth - a gal with a pure heart, ages and ages old. She has a whole bunch of small flaming rock creatures that she keeps close because of an old friend of hers is embodied in them, so she’s never alone, a motherly figure that once she sees you need help, good luck convincing her you dont really need it

Suisei - a blind angel, a certain demon gouged his eyes out and nowadays is terrified of everything, he’s scared of leaving heaven, but who knows, sometimes when you cant see you end up tripping, and falling...

Marrisa - she’s a rogue angel which constantly taunts Nicolas for not being able to do his job right, she still has her wings and goes in the angelic class, she was a guardian angel but....that all changed when she didnt do her job and allowed for someone to slaughter the family she was watching

Lieutenant Hugs - mainly has a human appearance but in reality is a demon that appears to look like black essence, where her extra arms come from at times, she has abandonment issues, behind that smile and open arms is a lot more than sunshine and rainbows

Rainecloud - a staff wielding cat demon who honestly can kick ass! but recently retired as a mother so its rare to find her fighting like she used to, she used to go to other dimensions to fight because she liked it, used to be a heavy drinker as well, nowadays she likes to leave her past behind and keep her friends and family close

Rainie - Rainecloud’s other half so to say, an axe wielding psychopath who enjoys killing, finds it to be a game, very playful gal, a smile that never leaves and grows at the sight of a dead body, she honestly aint one known for showing mercy

Skye - Rainecloud’s sister, this lil pupper gal being sweet as can be and highly energetic and happy all the time, she is very sweet until you cross a boundary, then the sword comes out

Charles - he’s a bit of a hothead, honestly has a past he’d rather just let rot there, hates other demons, after being forced into a war, paying a high price for leaving it, its very clear why, nowadays he spends his days with his husband and daughter as a family, sometimes visits friends in other worlds, pretty rare though

Cheese - a gal who honestly has a personality made to drive you away, has so many wall built up, sold her soul for a complex revenge plan against some people and ended up being cheated out of it, it killing her best friend and the moment she spoke out against it she was turned into a demon, hates her home being inkwell, never wants to go back

Beat - friendly guy, a music demon who is found at bars and stage performances, just wanting to hear what he is tied to, his job is to well, drag people into hell when they play a certain song for too long...

Keith - absolute prick who smokes, past he likes to keep shut, can turn into a monster at the sight of blood, a best friend he pushed away a long time ago because something in him made him try and forget emotions, emotions make one weak you know?

Yami - a super hyper and sweet demon gal who honestly doesnt know what she is capable of, she is about 1′4′’ ands honestly the moment she decides your shoulder is comfortable good luck getting her off, she sticks to everything, super fast, super strong as well! she cant fly yet due to how underdeveloped her wings are at the moment but one day she might be able to, at the moment she is happy with Troy and Artsy, her family now.

Hallie - gals been through a lot, abusive mother, horrible treatment, luckily she’s away from that all now, happy that she’s free! happy she feels safe with Teekee.... smokes occasionally, always wears long sleeves, a kind and happy gal, a bit of a flirt with who she chooses

Trebble - daughter of the devil, sweet as can be and suffered a lot of abuse and neglect from her father, luckily being in a better place with her godfather Anomy whom she likes to call dad, lots of connections with people, kind of heat but you’d be surprised what she does in her free time, just what her dad does you know?

Alphie - this little guy being Tricia’s underboss is known for being that lives off of flesh, Tricia lets his dispose of the bodies and take care of special cases she doesnt handle herself. he honestly hates Rainie, they both have a small fued between each other and when it gets in the way of business it pisses Tricia off

Judith - a drug dealer who has a thing for murdering customers, she has a certain obsession with an ex and detective Milo who put her in prison at one point, unfortunately for Milo she isnt behind bars anymore and is back with her usual business.

Myrina - a formal demon warrior who currently fled home with her son Otoko and went to a place that would be safer for him instead of him being taken from her because he “held her back” according to some demons, she’ll do anything to protect her child so dont try anything.

Otoko - a small bab who is about a year old, bright and cheerful and just loves his mother

Riku - an earth demon tribe leader, currently at a young age and is responsible for leading his small and shrinking tribe. he luckily isnt stressed from is and has time to be a kid but with what is to happen soon, who knows how that could change him

Hood - half demon, basically a host, battling memory loss and fighting for control. she’s a vigilante who is talented as all hell with a bow and arrow, nimble and agile as can be. just back away when she loses control. 

Lime - he aint aware that he’s part demon, his father was a demon, a guy who’s had it tough, hates authority with a passion. and interdimensional thief who has a thing for shinies 

Rob - guy might have angel wings but i promise you those arent his. a demonic shapeshifter. a cross breed, the guy is really sweet and kind, unaware of what he used to be...luckily

Sketch - a demon mimic, gals got a tough past, abused to the point where she forgot how to feel emotions and lost the ability to feel touch and pain. nowadays just trying to find a goddamn job after she stopped working for a gang. 

Tricia - a gang leader who absolutely lacks a heart in the slightest, no redeeming her, a huge dislike for children leading her to abandoning her own child and wanting to kill her niece Trebble. currently trying to get back her test subject Artsy and working with another being Sonya...

My thoughts on MK11′s story mode ending, so major spoilers below.

I found the ending to be very bittersweet. I hesitate nowadays to call any ending bad, especially on only my first time watching it, but this came close.

I liked the arcs that the characters were taking. Outworld was finally united under the banner of Kitana Kahn. With her character how it was, at least in the NT, I thought her having a throne to rule herself was the perfect conclusion for her, and having her new dominion be Outworld seemed like a great parallel to her history as a forced kombatant of that realm. Now, she came reshape the realm as she reshaped herself in MK9 before her death.

Jacqui’s relationship with her father was a great way to make her character more distinctive when standing next to Cassie, since they both treated their younger parent differently. I loved the Jax and Jacqui chapter, and Jacqui’s view on changing the timeline.

Raiden choosing to let go of power and control was a great end to his NT path. MK9 showed him struggle for control, he won but it hurt him. MKX saw him struggle for power to keep that control, again he won and it hurt him. Finally he lost it all, and his younger self decided to give up that search and live a peaceful live away from power or control.

Kotal Kahn’s descision to give up his throne was a great move, and I wanted to see where the development of his paralysis would take his story moving forward.

But the ending made all of this irrelevant. None of these character arcs started, none of the arcs ended. As Jacqui said in my favorite chapter, paraphrasing a bit, without the terrible history, she, and the others, may not be born. I know that the new era could feature the same character with similar backstories, but it just would feel different. Feel too much like fate, and not human agency. 

And the ending dropped a lot of story lines. Johnny Cage is never seen after his younger self is captured. We never see him and his younger self work out their differences, and come to terms with the fact that they are each other(insert persona 4 flashback here). And similarly, we never get any conclusion for Young Sonya, either with Cassie or Young Johnny. It just seemed to end very quickly, which is odd considering the length of the story mode(an hour longer than Boon predicted)

I know this would be asking a lot for a fighting game, and I know I overestimated what they could accomplish, but I actually think that is a huge compliment to the story mode. The story mode was so good that I felt it could handle these stories and emotions given the time and allowing for story outside of the restrictions of the medium. The scenario and characters they created were so amazing I just wanted to see what could have been done despite the restrictions. And I will definitely return to this story to see what I find and get out of it, and I will analyze the hell out of the characters. I'm definitely gonna have fun analyzing the metanarrative of The Titans.

(But Kitana joining Liu at the end was just stupid. Kitana had her own destiny, and Kung Loa was much more intertwined with him. Plus, he has always been a great debater and voice of reason for Liu, and he desserved some of that god power. Hashtag Bros for Eternity.)

I was tagged by @bloody-mary-23 to name 10 different characters from 10 different things.

Thinking about this actually made me realize that nowadays, I tend to read books and watch movies from a more critical lens, whereas I watch shows with more of a “fan” lens (not sure if that makes sense). Like, I had trouble even naming one favourite character from a book or a movie, maybe because I tend to just sit back and judge them? Whereas for TV shows I learn to identify with them or I aspire to be like them and that’s how they become my favourites? 

Anyway, enough with that. Most of the characters on my list are either from things I enjoyed as a kid, or things I enjoyed very recently. Like, there’s no middle ground. Either they’re old enough to have always been one of my favourites or they’re a recent obsession lol. 

1) Three Kingdoms (Chinese drama) - Xun Yu

He’s my favourite character only based on the 2010 adaptation so I’m not sure if this carries over to other adaptations. Anyway, while I also like a few of the big players of the story (namely Zhuge Liang and Zhao Yun), Xun Yu is my ultimate fave. While Cao Cao technically didn’t need his expertise because Cao Cao was plenty smart himself, he served as a sounding board for Cao Cao, so he played a very much behind-the-scenes role. Anyway, I just liked how level-headed he was and how much he stuck to his morals (for which he paid with his life in the end…).

2) DC Comics - Jason Todd

When I first started getting into DC comics, actually Dick Grayson was my favourite character. But over time, I started enjoying Jason’s sense of humour as well as his non-conventional ways. Despite appearing to be the “wild one,” it’s quite interesting to find that Jason actually does have a strict moral code. It’s just one that’s slightly different from that of his family.

3) Day & Night (Chinese drama) - Zhou Xun

I’m still watching this show, but he’s like the stereotypical police boss character in Chinese dramas, complete with moustache, beard, and floppy hair (like Bai Yu in Guardian lol). I like his character for how much he tries. On one hand, he’s advancing his career, doing what he can to close cases, and he knows that Guan Hongfeng is someone he can count on for that. On the other hand, he knows that Guan Hongfeng is someone he needs to keep a close eye on in case anything about his brother comes up. So he does what he can to patch that up too. Also wears leather jackets and is a bit of a hothead/brash one which comes as part of the cocky police detective boss character. I’m down. 

4) Nirvana in Fire (Chinese drama) - Xiao Jingyan

Yo, I had a really hard time deciding between Jingyan, Mei Changsu, Consort Jing, and Grand Princess Liyang. In the end, I decided on Jingyan. First, he adheres to his moral code very very very strictly. That’s his thing ™. Second, he loves his family and close friends to bits. That’s his other thing ™. These two things are what guides him through life. Sometimes it makes him even a little naive, i.e. him wanting Mei Changsu to be reinstated as a member of the extended Royal Family, etc. (but Mei Changsu knows that that’s a former life he can’t live up to anymore). But he always has the best intentions in mind and that’s something I can respect. 

5) Vikings - Ragnar Lothbrok

To be honest, I stopped watching this show after Ragnar died. He was such an interesting character. He was a fierce warrior, but he also wanted to be a wise ruler. Sometimes he had to use offhanded tactics but I kind of liked that he was willing to think outside the box. He was also a little bit ruthless but I think he did so when he knew that he had to make a decision for his realm. I just thought his character was a combination of a lot of different traits and wasn’t just a two-dimensional character.

6) Sailor Moon - Kino Makoto/Sailor Jupiter

I love that Sailor Moon has so many different characters in its main cast because there’s always a role model for each period of my life. When I was young, I liked Sailor Mercury the most because like her, I was a massive nerd with no friends. Nowadays though I like Sailor Jupiter quite a lot. She’s sometimes labeled as being both super masculine (being a tomboy, being physically strong) as well as super feminine (liking baking and gardening). But that doesn’t mean she has to give up one or the other. Instead, these are just the activities she enjoys doing and that doesn’t mean she needs to be labeled for it. It reminds me that you should just go ahead and like the things you like because that shouldn’t say anything about your character.

7) Hamtaro - Penelope

When I was a kid I thought Penelope was the cutest hamster. For the longest time I didn’t know the yellow thing was a blanket she was wearing and I thought that was just what she was (like, until recently). I still remember that one episode where the hamster clubhouse was flooded in a rain and Penelope ran to Laura’s dog to get help and ultimately saved all the hamsters from drowning. Penelope was the MVP that day.

8) Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - Sonya

It’s kind of surprising to me that my favourite Fire Emblem character is from FEE and not FEA (which was my first FE game). However, I found that with the romance/matchmaking mechanics in FEA and FEF, a lot of the characters turned into gimmicks because it seemed the writers probably ran out of different things to write for their supports with other characters. I found that in FEE, the support conversations were more meaningful because they were limited, and therefore more fleshed out. Anyway, I think Sonya is the coolest because she’s like the cool older sister but also a sympathetic person. Love her

9) Bleach - Yamamoto Genryuusai Shigekuni

I also didn’t expect my favourite Bleach character to be Yamamoto Genryuusai. I probably would have expected my favourite to be Byakuya or Hisagi, you know, my pretty boy husbandos. Or even Soifon or Hiyori, my kickass girls. But there’s something about Captain-Commander that makes him such an epic character. Yes, he is a bit stuck in his old-man ways, but everything he’s done has been to protect Soul Society. The part near the end when he finally goes Bankai is just….chills. Like, when the old man finally uses his old man strength, then you know shit’s going down. 

10) Sweet Pool - Sakiyama Youji

To be honest #1, there’s not a lot of characters to choose from here and to be honest #2, I haven’t actually played the game myself. So I’ve really just known his character through the audio CDs (translated), other people’s playthroughs, etc. But I’ve come to like his character. Just the mellow, solemn way that he is despite all the chaotic bullshit going on around him. 

(I won’t lie, it took me a really long time to come up with a tenth favourite character lol)

Also this questionnaire has made me want to reread Claymore again, since that manga had a TON of badass characters. I only remember a handful, like Clare, Galatea, Ophelia, etc.

I love Rider’s smile!! @charbonneaux recced him as a fc for me when I was creating him, and honestly he couldn’t fit more. I have several icons of Rider smiling and I really wish Liev would more often so I can use them. 

two headcanons you have for your character that you never told anyone:

Liev was an accident. His parents, Tani and Aras, only meant to have Raz, and when Liev came as a surprise six years later, they weren’t happy. As an infant his mother cared more for him than his father did, but when he was old enough to walk and talk, she began to neglect and emotionally detach herself from him. Raz, in contrast, was treated as the perfect child, and got more privileges and attention.

Raz, by nature, is not a bad guy. The way he treated Liev is a result of Tani and Aras’ bad parenting. He learned to view himself as superior and above his brother because they instilled that through putting him on a pedestal and throwing Liev in the trash. If Tani and Aras had actually been decent and fair in raising their children, Raz would not have been influenced to emotionally abuse his brother. He probably wouldn’t have even made those friends. 

three things your character likes doing in their free time:

Taking walks. Liev finds a lot of peace in solitude, and he doesn’t like being cooped up in his apartment like he always was at home, so he meanders throughout Inkopolis several times a week. He enjoys finding new alleys and streets to explore, and he finds walks soothing.

Messing with his charger. In order to master his main weapon, Liev took it apart to figure out how it worked and to see how he could best utilize it. He has no interest in modifying it as of now, but if he could find an adjustment that was practical enough, he would consider adding it. He spends time cleaning it once a week. 

Working out and training. Liev takes very good care of his body, from making sure he’s clean and smelling nice to eating well. Turf wars are enough exercise each day, especially considering he does them for a good half of his day, but he likes to focus on specific parts of his body to keep himself healthy. He tends to focus most on his arms and legs, for using his charger and keeping speed and endurance during battle.

one thing your character regrets:

Letting Ilaria go that night. He’s unsure if he could’ve proposed to her any earlier, and even if he did, then she may still have been called out on emergency one night. Rather, Liev wishes that he had made her stay. Surely they didn’t need her in particular that night, right? Weren’t there plenty of other volunteers to choose from? If only he would’ve kept her that night - he could’ve been happily married and in love for a long, long time. 

two phobias your character has:

The future. Liev is terrified of the fact that he doesn’t see any future other than killing Agent 3. It’s the only thing he focuses on because he doesn’t see himself as having anything else to do or anywhere else to go. He’s aimless. Even if he did manage to kill her, he wouldn’t have any idea what to do with himself after. What happens when he gets too old to turf? He has no idea. 

Abandonment. The only person he could trust ending up dying on him, and he never had anybody else he could really hold onto. Nowadays he pushes people away on purpose, because if he allows them to get close to him, they’ll just leave or die on him one way or another, and he can’t take that.
