𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐒; min ho
summary: y/n is heartbroken after being stood up on valentine’s day, but when min ho confesses his feelings, she begins to question everything she thought she knew about him—and herself.
warnings: N/A
word count: 2798
VALENTINE’S DAY WAS THE WORST !
every year, you swore it wouldn't bother you.
and every year, you watched your friends get grand gestures, love confessions, and sweet surprises while you got... nothing.
you saw it in the way yuri's eyes lit up when juliana asked her to be her valentine, the way they looked at each other like the rest of the world didn't exist.
you wanted that.
no—you needed it.
too bad you didn't have a boyfriend. or anyone remotely interested in you.
and as if that wasn't bad enough, kitty refused to let it go.
"kitty, just face it—i'm never getting a valentine. i've accepted it, why can't you?" you sighed dramatically, flopping onto the couch.
kitty, ever the optimist, shook her head. "i'm a matchmaker, y/n! someone out there would be so lucky to have you."
before you could respond, the dorm door swung open.
and, of course, it had to be him.
min ho.
he took one look at you and scoffed. "do you have to be here?" his accent curled around each syllable, laced with irritation.
you rolled your eyes. "yes, i do. if you have a problem with it—frankly, i don't care."
his jaw ticked. "shocking."
"god, you are so insufferable," you shot back, shifting to face kitty instead. "anyway, what's your plan for valentine's?"
at the mention of it, kitty's expression faltered. "nothing, i guess. dae hasn't asked me or anything yet."
you gasped. "excuse me?"
kitty shrugged. "he probably will, i just—"
"if he doesn't, we're having a girls' night," you decided, already springing to your feet. "just us, old 2000s rom-coms, and—"
your eyes flickered toward the kitchen. without thinking, you strode over and snatched the freshly popped popcorn min ho had just made.
he turned slowly, gaze darkening. "put. that. back."
you smirked, tossing a piece into your mouth. "make me."
for a second, neither of you moved.
min ho stepped closer, his presence overwhelming as he stared you down. "you're so annoying, you know that?" his voice was lower now, quieter.
your heart kicked up—whether from irritation or something else, you refused to acknowledge.
"and yet," you popped another piece into your mouth, "you're still standing here."
his eyes flicked to your lips for half a second.
you blinked.
before you could react, you turned on your heel and skipped back to kitty, plopping down beside her.
"i'm sure dae will ask me, though... right?" kitty asked, her voice hopeful.
you forced yourself to focus, nudging her playfully. "of course he will. he loves you."
but as you spoke, you could feel min ho's stare burning into you from across the room.
and for some reason, you didn't hate it.
a week later, you were caught completely off guard.
jaehyun—a boy you barely spoke to—approached you in the courtyard, a single rose in his hand and a box of chocolates tucked under his arm.
your first reaction was to laugh, shaking your head in disbelief. “me?”
jaehyun grinned, nodding as he stepped closer, the faint scent of cologne lingering in the air. “y/n y/l/n, will you be my valentine?”
you blinked, glancing around like this was some kind of joke. but there were no snickering friends hiding nearby, no cameras pointed at you for some cruel prank.
just him, holding out the chocolates, slipping the rose behind your ear with careful fingers.
and for once, for the first time ever, you felt chosen. wanted.
a slow smile spread across your lips. “yeah, i will.”
jaehyun smirked before walking off, his friends clapping him on the back.
you watched him go, your heart thrumming in your chest, warmth blooming in your stomach. then, clutching the chocolates, you spun around and ran back to your dorm, excitement bubbling over.
for the first time, valentine’s day wasn’t something to dread.
it was something for you.
february 14th.
you spent an hour getting ready, carefully picking out your outfit, fixing your hair, and perfecting your makeup.
by the time you arrived at the restaurant, you were practically glowing, heart hammering with anticipation.
you found your table and sat down, smoothing your dress.
the waiter came over, pen poised over his notepad. "would you like to order?"
you shook your head, smiling. "oh, i'm waiting for my date. he'll be here soon."
the waiter nodded and walked away.
you checked your phone. no messages.
he's probably just running late.
thirty minutes passed. you were still sitting there, hands folded neatly in your lap, foot tapping against the floor.
an hour.
the waiter returned with a hesitant look. "would you like to order something while you wait?"
your stomach churned. "no... i think he'll be here soon."
you pulled out your phone, hesitated, then finally texted him.
no response.
you clicked on his profile.
blocked.
your breath hitched.
the realization crashed over you like a wave, drenching you in humiliation.
he wasn't coming.
two hours later, you ran out of the restaurant, the cold night air biting at your tear-streaked cheeks as you rushed to kitty's dorm.
the moment you reached the door, it swung open.
min ho.
you froze.
his gaze flickered over you, taking in the trembling shoulders, the ruined makeup, the way you clutched your arms around yourself like you were trying to hold the pieces together.
and then his expression shifted.
the teasing smirk he usually wore was gone. instead, his brows furrowed, lips parting slightly as he took a step forward.
you didn't give him the chance to speak. you shoved past him, storming into the room and collapsing onto the couch, burying your face in your hands.
min ho followed, shutting the door behind him.
silence.
then, the rustling of fabric as he moved closer.
the couch dipped beside you.
you flinched, immediately shifting away from him. "if you have something to say, i don't want to hear it!" your voice cracked, betraying you.
min ho exhaled, and when he spoke again, his voice was softer. "y/l/n... what happened?"
his tone. you weren't used to it. not from him. it wasn't condescending, wasn't laced with the usual irritation. it was something else.
something dangerous.
something that made your walls tremble.
you shook your head, wiping the fresh tears that spilled down your cheeks. "it's nothing."
min ho didn't move. "you look like you just had the worst night of your life. tell me."
you swallowed the lump in your throat.
for a moment, you considered shutting him out.
but then his eyes locked onto yours—deep, searching, unwavering—and suddenly, everything poured out.
"i was asked out by this guy," you whispered.
"jaehyun. and he—he asked me to be his valentine, and i thought, for once, someone actually wanted me. and then he stood me up." your voice broke on the last word.
"he blocked me."
the weight of it hit you all over again, a fresh wave of embarrassment and hurt crashing down. your chest tightened as more tears slipped down your face, shoulders shaking.
min ho was silent.
then, before you could react, he reached for you—his hands gripping your wrists, gently pulling them away from your face.
and then he did something you never expected.
he pulled you in.
your breath hitched as you crashed against his chest, his arms wrapping around you, warm and secure and safe.
the shock nearly knocked the air out of your lungs, but the moment his hand slid up to cradle the back of your head, the dam inside you broke completely.
you sobbed into his shoulder, hands clutching at the fabric of his hoodie. "i feel so stupid," you choked out.
min ho tensed. "you're not stupid."
you shook your head, unable to stop the spiral. "i just—i wanted it so badly. i wanted to feel special. but i guess i'm just—"
"don't."
his voice was firm.
you blinked up at him, sniffling.
min ho exhaled sharply, his grip tightening. "you are so much more than what that asshole saw you as. he's an idiot. he's a coward. and he just lost the chance to be with someone beautiful, talented, annoyingly stubborn—"
you let out a watery laugh.
"—and actually gives a shit about people," min ho finished. his voice lowered. "you deserve more than that. so much more."
you swallowed hard, your heart pounding.
it wasn't just what he was saying.
it was how he was saying it.
the way his gaze flickered down to your lips for half a second before snapping back up to your eyes.
the way his fingers curled slightly like he had to stop himself from holding you closer.
the way he was looking at you.
like he was realizing something.
like maybe he should've been the one to ask you first.
your breath caught in your throat.
min ho must've realized how close you were because he cleared his throat, quickly pulling back—but not before his fingers lingered for a second longer than they needed to.
you stared at him, your heart hammering against your ribs.
he let out a shaky breath, running a hand through his hair. "you should get some rest," he muttered. "you look exhausted."
you shook your head, wiping your cheeks. "stay with me, please." you looked down, avoiding his eyes.
min ho went completely still.
you didn't dare move, didn't even breathe as the weight of your words hung in the air between you.
stay with me, please.
you hadn't meant for it to come out so desperate, so raw. but now it was out there, and there was no taking it back.
his breath was slow, measured—like he was carefully choosing his next move.
then, without a word, he leaned back into the couch, his body still tense, but he didn't leave.
"i'm not gonna leave you alone like this," he murmured, voice quieter now.
you nodded, but you didn't look at him. couldn't.
because if you did, you knew you'd break all over again.
the silence stretched between you, heavy and suffocating. the only sound was your shaky breathing, the occasional sniffle as you wiped at your cheeks.
and then—just barely—you felt it.
min ho's fingers, brush against yours.
a hesitation.
a pause.
and then he held them.
not in the way a friend would. not in the way someone offering comfort should.
his grip was warm, steady—but his thumb traced over your knuckles, slow and deliberate, sending a shiver down your spine.
your breath hitched.
what is he doing?
min ho cleared his throat, but he didn't let go. "you're such an idiot."
your head snapped up, eyes narrowing. "excuse me?"
he let out a short, bitter laugh, shaking his head.
his grip on your hand tightened for half a second before he finally let go, dragging his fingers through his hair in frustration.
"i mean, really, y/n?" he muttered.
"some guy gives you a rose and suddenly you think you're in some fairytale romance? you actually believed he—" min ho cut himself off, jaw tightening.
he looked away, breathing heavily through his nose.
you stared at him, something in your chest twisting. "why do you care so much?"
his head snapped back to you, eyes burning. "because it's you."
the room went deathly silent.
you barely had time to process before min ho was speaking again, voice lower, rougher. "do you have any idea how fucking frustrating it is to watch you chase after people who don't deserve you? to see you get your hopes up just to end up crying like this?"
your throat tightened. "min ho—"
"i would never do that to you," he interrupted, his voice breaking slightly.
"i would never make you feel like you're not enough. and you—" he huffed out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. "you don't even see me, do you?"
you froze.
your pulse pounded in your ears as you stared at him, at the way his chest rose and fell unevenly, the way his hands clenched into fists like he was trying to hold himself together.
like this confession had been clawing its way out of him for way too long.
"...what?" your voice was barely above a whisper.
min ho let out a sharp exhale like he'd already said too much. but then his eyes locked onto yours, and something in them shifted.
screw it.
he surged forward, his face just inches from yours. "i like you, okay?" he muttered, the words dripping with frustration, desperation, something dangerous.
"i have liked you. and it's driving me insane watching you throw yourself at guys who don't even know how lucky they are to have your attention."
your lips parted, but no words came out.
min ho's jaw tensed, his eyes flickering between yours, searching—waiting.
for what, you didn't know.
for you to push him away?
to laugh in his face?
you didn't.
instead, you did the only thing you could do.
you reached for his hand again, gripping it tightly in yours. and this time, he was the one who sucked in a sharp breath.
"say it again," you whispered.
his brows furrowed slightly, his voice barely above a breath. "what?"
you swallowed, heart hammering against your ribs. "say it again."
min ho's fingers curled around yours. his voice was quieter this time, but just as intense.
"i like you."
you could barely think. barely breathe.
but then min ho leaned in, so close that his lips ghosted over your cheek, lingering there for a heartbeat too long.
his breath was warm against your skin, his grip on your hand tightening like he was grounding himself.
his voice dropped even lower, barely a whisper.
"...and i'm so fucking tired of pretending i don't."
you didn't move.
didn't breathe.
min ho's confession hung between you, thick and suffocating, as if the weight of it alone could crush you.
his breath was warm against your skin, his grip on your hand firm—like he was daring you to pull away, begging you not to.
but you couldn't.
your heart pounded so loudly you swore he could hear it.
every nerve in your body was on edge, hyper-aware of him—the heat of his body so close to yours, the tension radiating off of him like an electric current.
you forced yourself to swallow. "min ho..."
his name came out weaker than you intended, barely more than a whisper.
he pulled back just enough to look at you, his brows furrowed, his lips parted slightly like he was preparing for the worst.
like he expected you to shut him down.
and maybe you should've.
maybe you should've laughed it off, teased him, acted like this was some sick joke—because what other explanation was there?
this was min ho.
min ho, who bickered with you like it was a second language.
min ho, who always had something sarcastic to say, acted like he barely tolerated you most of the time.
min ho, who was right here, so close you could feel every breath he took.
"i—" you swallowed again, voice barely steady. "you can't just say things like that."
his jaw tightened. "why not?"
"because..." you hesitated, your grip on his hand loosening, but he didn't let go.
because it would change everything.
because it was easier to keep pretending.
because if you let yourself believe him—if you let yourself hope—you wouldn't survive it if he took it back.
min ho exhaled sharply, his frustration barely contained. "you really don't get it, do you?"
you blinked at him, heat rushing to your cheeks. "get what?"
"that i see you." his voice was quieter now, raw in a way that made your stomach twist.
"i see all of you, y/n. not just the part that laughs too loudly, or the part that annoys the shit out of me daily. i see the part that cries when no one's looking. the part that wants so badly to be chosen—" he broke off, shaking his head.
"and it pisses me off that you don't even realize you already are."
your breath hitched.
min ho's gaze flickered between your eyes, your lips, and back to your eyes.
his fingers twitched like he wanted to touch you again, but something was holding him back.
you.
you were holding both of you back.
you squeezed your eyes shut, your pulse thrumming wildly against your skin. "min ho, i don't—"
"tell me you don't feel it." his voice was low, almost desperate. "tell me i'm wrong."
you opened your mouth, ready to deny it. to throw up your defenses, to make this easier.
but nothing came out.
because you did feel it.
you felt it in the way your chest tightened whenever he was near.
in the way his absence left a void, you hated to acknowledge.
in the way, his touch, his words, and his presence sent something sharp and terrifying through you.
you felt it.
and min ho knew.
his lips parted like he was about to say something else—one final push to make you admit what was already written all over your face.
but then, a sharp knock sounded on the door.
you jumped.
min ho jerked back slightly, his grip on your hand loosening for the first time. the moment shattered the intensity between you dissipating like smoke.
the door creaked open, and kitty's voice rang out.
"oh—uh, am i... interrupting something?"
your head snapped up, your breath still uneven.
min ho let out a slow exhale, running a hand through his hair, forcing his expression back into something unreadable.
"no." his voice was flat, distant.
"nothing at all."
liar.
he shot you one last look before standing up, jaw tight.
then he walked out, leaving you alone on the couch, pulse still racing, heart still pounding, and everything left unsaid.

Mingle - Part 2
Thanos x Reader
Summary: Thanos wants to protect you at all cost and has to choose whether to continue the game or take you back home. Getting to know you better, the answer is simple.
A/N: More angsty than the first part and doesn't follow the show's plot anymore. Thank you so much for all the likes on the first part, i didn't imagine it getting so many notes 🫶🏻 I wasn't sure which way to take this story, but he's 100% obsessed and in love with her.
☆☆☆
You were holding your tray, about to go to your usual spot to eat with your team and following Dae-ho in front of you but you stopped. You looked over Thanos, seeing him by himself.
"I'll see you later," you said to Dae-ho who looked confused. "I'll go sit with Thanos tonight."
"Thanos?" Dae-ho repeated, making sure he heard you correctly. "Why would you-"
You turned around and left, not wanting to answer to any other questions Dae-ho would ask you about your sudden interest to spend time with Thanos. Mostly, because you didn't know what to say.
Why? Because he just saved you a moment ago? You weren't sure if that was the only reason or not, you had to go over to him and figure it out yourself.
When you arrived to the bunk where Thanos was sitting and already eating his food, his eyes lit up.
"Is the invite still open?" you asked awkwardly, afraid that he had been only joking earlier about asking you to join him.
"For you, of course," he said, smiling, and pat the empty space next to him on the mattress. "I saved a seat for you."
You gave him a little smile and sat on that specific spot.
"For a second i thought you had changed your mind," he said, chewing his food.
"Oh, well, i wasn't sure if you truly meant it," you admitted, avoiding his eyes at first. "But then i saw you sitting alone. Why aren't you with your friends anyway?"
"I figured you'd just get uncomfortable with them," he shrugged. "And i wanted to be alone with you, even if just for a moment."
You felt your cheeks turning red. "Why?"
He gently put his hand on your chin and turned your head to look at him.
"I want go get to know you better, pretty flower," he smiled, making you turn even more red and you immediately turned your head away, the nickname making you feel funny inside once again.
"Oh," was the only sound you managed to breathe out.
"You know, from the day one i've tried to approach you but you've been ignoring me quite well," he pointed out. "You could add it on your resume as one of your skills."
"Oh, i mean," you said nervously. "I'm not used to guys trying to get close to me before, so i really didn't think much of it."
"Not used to it?" Thanos asked, acting dramatic and overly shocked, putting his hand against his chest and not believing what he was hearing. "You're that gorgeous and guys haven't gone after you? You're lying."
"Stop it," you chuckled and the smile lingered on your lips longer than before. "Maybe i just can't take a hint very easily."
"Well, tell me something about you?" Thanos asked and thought about something for a while. "Hmm, what's your favorite type of flower?"
"Flower?"
"It's for our future date, i need to make sure i'll get you something you like," he explained. "I don't want to get you roses if you don't like roses."
"Oh, well, i don't really know. Nobody ever got me flowers before," you said, the blush sticking on your cheeks like a glue. "I suppose orchids and lilies are pretty."
"I'll keep that in mind," he nodded.
His words made you feel nice and get butterflies in your stomach, but you really didn't understand what his intentions truly were. You hadn't had many guys to show interest on you before, if any, so you had been used to the fact that you might just stay alone.
You continued your conversation and lost the track of time completely. You asked about his life as a rapper and what his life goals were in the music industry, since that was really the only thing you knew about him outside these games before now talking with him. He asked about your hobbies and in general about your interests - you could sense that he was considering to include some of them to your "date" he had mentioned.
Eventually he changed the subject to the one that you would have prefered to leave alone. The one you hadn't truthfully told even to Dae-ho or Gi-hun yet.
"So, how did you end up here?" Thanos asked. "You know, debts and all."
"Well, i wouldn't want to bother you with that. It's pretty depressing," you said after being quiet for a moment, twirling the rest of your food with your fork. You were a little nervous to open up to him about it now that you were having a nice conversation, him making you even laugh here and there. But for some reason, you had started to become more comfortable around him and able to talk more freely.
"I'd be glad to hear it, if you want to share," Thanos said, encouraging you to tell him, but only if you were comfortable with it.
"Oh, well," you sighed. "The main reason i came here was because my little brother has cancer." You took a deep breath to get the words properly out of your mouth. It was already hard to think about and even harder to talk about it without crying. You tried to say the words as fast as you could, otherwise they would be stuck in your throat. "We don't have money for his treatments, my mom doesn't earn a lot from her work, and if we don't start treating it soon, he will die."
You were looking at your lap, scared to glance back at Thanos. You were feeling your eyes becoming wet and you were afraid you'd start to cry in front of him. He was quiet for a while, speechless. He hadn't been prepared for you having such a heavy reason to be here.
"How old is your brother?" Thanos asked softly.
"He's just 11," you answered and felt tears rising up into your eyes. You hated talking about this because even a single thought of losing your brother broke you. You wiped a tear off your face as soon as it had appeared out of your eye.
"I'm sorry," you chuckled, trying to force yourself to lighten up. "I didn't mean to ruin the moment."
"No, no you didn't ruin anything, it's okay," he assured you, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. "I'm sorry i made you bring it up."
You buried your face on his shoulder.
"I just want to get back home, i don't care how much money i'll get and if it's enough to cover everything," you mumbled. "I just have to go and take care of my brother."
You stayed like that for a while, Thanos comforting you the best he could. Now, the need to protect you at any cost grew even stronger.
☆☆☆
It was time to vote, whether you'd want to stay and play the games or go home with the money earned by far.
Thanos was having mixed feelings. Personally, he would have of course continued the game and played for more money - the current amount wasn't enough to cover all his debts. One more game, that was what had been going on in Thanos' head.
One more game.
But when he turned to look at you, standing further away from him with your group, your gaze stuck on the floor, looking anxious - he felt something sting and break his heart.
Every day here was a new possibility to die. None of you knew what tomorrow's game was, it was always a total surprise until you started playing it.
What if the game tomorrow would be too hard for you and you wouldn't make it? Thanos couldn't live with himself anymore if he had decided to continue the game and survived, but you lost your life, as would your brother.
Player 230.
Thanos stood in front of the two buttons, gaze jumping between them. Before getting to know you, his choice would have been simple. But now?
"Player 230," the pink guard in front of Thanos said, he hadn't realised how long he had been standing there doing nothing. "Please make your choice."
Eventually, against all the odds, Thanos pressed the red button, giving one more point to the X team. He glanced towards Nam-gyu who looked at Thanos like he couldn't believe his eyes what he was seeing. Thanos ignored him and walked to the red side, appearing next to you.
"Told you i'll get you home, pretty flower," Thanos whispered to you.
You looked at him like you were sure you were seeing things. Being here had finally made you to hallucinate. Surely he hadn't chosen to go home only because of you, he couldn't be that attached to you already.
"But you still needed a lot more money," you pointed out, furrowing your eyebrows. You would have understood if he wanted to and chose to stay. You weren't a burden he had to bear.
"And i'll find a way to pay my debts on my own," Thanos answered.
The waiting felt like it took forever. There weren't that many players left anymore, but it felt like everything was happening twice slower than in reality.
Finally, after the last player had voted, you looked at the scores and you felt like your entire world was slowing down even more and you weren't able to get air into your lungs.
The situation was 50-51. The 'O' team won yet again. You wanted to break down and cry, right then and there. When you had seen Thanos approaching you with the red patch on his jacket, somehow you were sure that this time you were going home, as if the decision was depending purely on him.
If just two more people would have voted for X, you'd be on your way home. But no, you had to stay for another game.
"I'm sorry," Thanos said and held your hand, looking genuinely concerned. "I really am."
"It's fine," was all you said until you walked back to your bunk without sparing a single glance at anyone else.
☆☆☆
Laying on your bed on your side you weren't able to sleep. You only stared ahead of you, feeling hopeless. You wanted out of this place so badly and the voting tonight had given you way too much false hope that this could actually be over soon, just to be completely crushed.
You sat up and wiped the tears off your face, trying to calm yourself so you'd be able to sleep atleast a little bit.
You were thinking about your little brother. He deserved so much more, had his entire life ahead of him. If you were able to take his cancer to you, you would take it any day and let him live. What if he had passed away during your stay here? What if you'd go back home and meet only your mother who had been crying for days and refused to eat, sleep or do anything?
You had to bite your lip to keep the sobs inside you, afraid you'd wake up the people sleeping near you.
"Can't sleep huh?" Thanos whispered, you didn't look at him. You had seen him approaching from the corner of your eye, even though you hadn't fully turned to look at him. "Listen," he continued and took your hand in his. "I'm going to make sure you'll get out of here, okay?"
"And how are you going to do that?" you scoffed, accidentally letting out a single sob. "You don't even know the next game."
He sat down on the bed with you and took your hand in his. He didn't know how he could comfort you.
"I don't, but i'll do whatever i can to get you home," he said and tried to give you a comforting smile. "I'll protect you, no matter what, and when the votings come, i'm absolutely sure that we'll get to leave this place."
"What are you going to do? Cheat the system?"
"If i have to," he smirked. He hesitated for a second until lifted his hand to wipe the remaining tears off your cheek.
☆☆☆
It was time for the next game. You arrived into a room which had four shapes on one of the walls.
The same symbols as in playing cards.
♤♡◇♧
The game was called Dalgona. It was exactly the same game Gi-hun had talked to you about in the beginning when he had thought Dalgona must be the second game like three years ago. Only the shapes had now changed.
The reason why they had suddenly brought dalgona back to this year was unclear to you. Unclear to everybody. By now everyone had thought that only the first game was the same and they had changed the rest of them to new ones.
Players were commanded to line up in front of one of the shapes, chosen by their own will. Gi-hun immediately told you to choose the diamond, it would be the easiest one.
Thanos let you go for the diamond, but he chose the heart, even though you insisted that he'd take the diamond too.
"Come on, it's not that much harder, i'll be fine," he assured you with a smile, as if it wasn't a big deal.
If you were going to die just because you accidentally cracked a wrong piece of a cookie off, that would be super embarrassing to explain in a funeral. Although, dying here you wouldn't even get a funeral.
You sat down on the floor, legs crossed, and the time started running down, one second at a time. You took the needle in your shaky hands and carefully started carving the lines of the shape, afraid to press too hard and crack the cookie in half any minute.
One thing you were afraid as well was when someone would be shot, your hand would accidentally slip due to the loud noise and make you fail too.
Thanos took quick glances at you once in a while, to make sure you were still sitting there. His hands were sweating and his heart beating fast.
The only sounds during the game were only the gunshots and the voice announcing which players had just been eliminated. You flinched each time, even though you had tried to prepare yourself for that.
This wasn't a game where Thanos would be able to help you and he hated it. On the first game, he had protected you by running in front of you. On the second game, you had other players in your group to help you. On the third game, he had saved you by taking you to a room with him when you had been left all alone.
Now, you were all on your own, he wasn't able to say a single word for you, you all had to stay quiet and only concentrate on your own task. He didn't think you were weak, not at all, he just needed to be there as a backup plan, ready to catch and save you if something went wrong.
Thanos was afraid he'd crack the cookie any second. If he was to die now, there would be one person less to vote for X and get you back home, though he couldn't know how many people from the blue side would be killed today.
He wasn't sure when had been the moment when he had decided that protecting you had become his number one priority. It just naturally came to him.
On the distance, Thanos saw one player to use a lighter to heat up the needle and then poke the cookie. By the looks of her face, she was subtly looking around her to see if the guards were watching her. He only had the pills inside his cross and they weren't much of a help for him right now.
Thanos was glad that you had chosen the easiest shape and not spades or clubs. He did believe in you and was sure to see you alive on the other side.
His heart stopped when he cracked a small piece off from the tip of the heart when he had completed the task. It was only a very tiny piece and the cookie still looked like a complete heart, but he didn't know how detailed and harsh the system was here. Thanos saw a guard approaching him and showed the heart to him, hiding the slightly broken tip with his finger as he held it up.
Pass.
Thanos let out a breath of relief, being able to breathe again properly. He didn't know why, but that was one of the most stressful games by far.
You were still carving yours as Thanos walked outside, but you weren't far behind. Just barely 20 seconds later, you had finished your task as well.
Pass.
☆☆☆
"Señorita, excuse me," Thanos said, making you stop before you managed to go and talk to Dae-ho, who had finished the challenge before you. Thanos was standing closer than you had expected, though he had seen you first.
"Yes, señor?" you said back sarcastically.
"I have a gift for you," he smiled.
"A gift?"
"I'll give you my heart if you'll let me have yours, after this is all over," he said, genuine kindness in his eyes.
"What are you on about?" That was such a cheesy and odd line to say out of nowhere, but it did make your heart skip a beat.
"When we get home tomorrow, i'll take you out soon, after you've seen your brother."
"How are you so sure we'll get home? People might vote to stay."
"Have a little bit hope, pretty flower."
He took your hand in his, you didn't resist.
"Keep this safe for me, okay?" he said and put something in your hand, closing your fist around it. Then, he left without another word.
You opened your hand, seeing the heart he had carved out from the cookie laying on your palm.
☆☆☆
The fourth game had eliminated only 29 players in total, so there was 72 left.
Thanos tried to count the players how many of them had blue patches and red patches on their jackets, but he lost count and wasn't sure if he had counted some people twice or not at all.
Thanos went to the bathroom where he found his former group.
"Well, well, well, look who it is," Nam-gyu slowly said and crossed his arms on his chest. He had three other guys around him, one of them Min-su. "Coming back to us after betraying us like that? I think not."
He stepped closer to Thanos.
"Sorry to say, but i don't think you're welcome anymore."
"I don't give a shit about you, Nam-su," Thanos said and didn't care to hear him trying to correct Thanos for saying his name wrong again. "Tonight, you better all vote for X or tomorrow i may not be in as good mood as right now, seeing you," Thanos said loudly and then glanced at Min-su, who still had the blue patch on his jacket. Thanos walked towards him and trapped him between himself and a wall. Thanos tried to change the expression on his face to more kind and sweet. "You'll do that for me, right Min-su?"
Thanos gave him a sweet smile, but Min-su hesitated without a word, both Nam-gyu and Thanos looking at him. Min-su wasn't entirely sure which side was safer for him to choose.
"What's up with you anyway? Don't tell me that woman has gotten into your head this badly. I'm not going home yet when there's more money to be earned."
"You can earn your money elsewhere," Thanos stated, gritting his teeth.
"Seriously, dude. I get that she's hot but-"
"One more word and you'll lose a tooth," Thanos threatened, pointing at him with his finger.
To be honest, Thanos wasn't sure how he had fallen so hard for you in such a little time. He had never been so smitten about a woman before, but there was something different about you, and he needed to know you better, no matter what he had to do to achieve it.
☆☆☆
The votings came and this time, it was easier for him to press X than last time. The money he had earned by far wasn't enough for his debts, but he'd figure it out how to get the rest when you had managed to get out of here.
Both of you had now voted and were only waiting for the result. Thanos glanced at you and you looked like you were going to be sick. He took your hand in his, making you jump a little bit for the sudden touch, but you let your fingers wrap between his. He gave you a comforting squeeze.
Internally, Thanos felt terrified. What if he had only given you false promises and you'd have to stay for the fifth game again? You were so broken yesterday that he didn't think he'd be able to see the same look on your face again this fast. You would definitely lose any trust you still might have for his words, not believe anything he would say to you anymore.
You hid your eyes with your left hand, not wanting to watch how the scores were changing and how much X was losing to O.
Then, all the votes were in and for a moment Thanos' heart stopped by looking at the score.
37-35.
"Y/N," Thanos whispered, finally using your real name and not only the nickname he had chosen, and brushed your left hand as a sign to let it drop from your face. "You can look now."
When you saw the scores on the broad, your knees felt so weak that you had to cling on Thanos' jacket not to fall on the floor. He wrapped his arm around your waist, and you broke down in tears.
"Oh my god," you laughed between the tears. "Thanos. Oh my god."
You wrapped your arms around his neck, startling Thanos at first how you pressed your body against his, but he wrapped his arms around you securely. Surprisingly, a hint of red was rising on his cheeks, along with a smile.
"I can go back home," you said against his jacket.
You pulled back and without thinking, you pressed a light kiss on Thanos' cheek.
"Thank you."
"So," Thanos lingered and took your hands in his. "I'll pick you up on Saturday?"
You bit your lip. "Okay."
☆☆☆

I honestly just wanted one single plot step that I could not predict given the 10 year wait. More behind the cut, I talk about Emet too, and I'm comparing his writing favorably to Solas' writing and why it worked better for me personally, but I am just talking about the writing skill that went into the games and not the dudes themselves, I love them both dearly of course. idk this is a mess and I am not going to edit it for clarity
For me, the game was a series of me saying
"ok I knew that. cool."
"oh yeah, I knew that. I guess it's good that the larger fandom knows about that now."
"nice, but yeah I already knew that too"
"that was something we've been talking about a lot for years"
"this thing they are acting like is a huge enormous reveal that the characters could not possibly have deduced through simply thinking about it in depth over the 10 years... the fans easily figured out by thinking about it in depth 10 years ago. So you would think his girlfriend would be able to figure it out more easily than we did. Like, why couldn't the game have been like 'oh lavellan already figured that out a while ago' it would have cost them nothing"
"this is something I've been thinking about for years, and now that it's being revealed, the companions' reactions to it are very irritating and jarring and unnecessary and I really dislike the experience I'm having right now, in this, the hour of my greatest triumph"
"this thing that is happening on my screen right now is something that I wrote an essay about 2 years ago describing how it would be a letdown if it happened without the correct setup"
"this way that they're characterizing Solas makes him less likable and less interesting than I have been finding him for all these years, and I have had people tell me 'no, he's simpler than you think' for years but I guess I was wrong, he really is simpler than I thought, so that fucking sucks. I wish I could take that information out of my brain."
"this thing is a retcon of information I have been thinking about for 10 years, and so I don't know how to follow along with this new direction, and I'm not sure if I even want to because it's not particularly interesting anyway"
"aw that was sweet"
"why is it like, so very impossible to have an honest back-and-forth with my favorite character about the dilemma that was most interesting to me about the previous game"
and then, as soon as, like, the other fans had caught up to the Solas lore that was really obvious from the other games, the game was.... over without anything surprising happening, or introducing a new element or plot point or perspective, or a real true twist (or two, or three) for those of us who have thought about it too hard for too long. It was very simple and easy, much, much, much, much easier than I was imagining. It all felt sort of like that Nicholson quote:
The thing was, the whole story was so interesting to think about because in 10 years, I couldn't figure out a good solution to it!!!!! It's why I was never able to write post-game fanfic about it. So I was stoked to find out some reveal we never knew about, some new information, in maybe a SERIES of steps of new information, that made the situation more complicated but also something that could be navigated by everyone involved. I know it was asking for a lot, but they had TEN YEARS, and they seemingly had set up the things they did in DAI on purpose, so surely they had some idea of a complex and satisfying narrative that would reconcile everyone.
The reason why I was expecting this is because FFXIV did a very similar story arc, which was started AND concluded WITHIN those 10 years (so it took the FFXIV team far less time to deliver as well). And the conclusion to the story in FFXIV did what I was expecting Dragon Age to do. So I thought, "holy shit, if this is the FFXIV version of this plot, how much more complicated is DA4 going to be!?!?" The DA devs also PLAYED FFXIV so they were completely aware, several years ago, of a satisfying story ending that was pretty darn similar.
People are probably going to think "oh, well Chelsea was disappointed because she spent too much time building it up in her head" but that's exactly it - I actually speculated and thought about FFXIV's story IN DEPTH NONSTOP for a year+ before its ending came out, and the ending absolutely blew me away. FFXIV Endwalker managed to introduce information and new story elements that I was not able to figure out in the YEAR I spent speculating on the ending of FFXIV's story. It took a complicated situation and revealed several several more facets to it that I was not able to predict, but were very interesting and thematically compelling, and took us all to surprising and climactic places that we could not have predicted.
Endwalker ("end" is in the title on purpose) too, was written to be THE ULTIMATE SATISFYING ENDING for a very long-running story in the exactly way that Veilguard SHOULD HAVE for Dragon Age, so while this complexity is being explored, FFXIV also gave catharsis to many different plot threads that have been built up through the previous expansions, until finally it ends with a bang. The story is desperately good to me, I loved it, it gave me closure for Dragon Age long before Veilguard was even revealed, and going back and looking at its story has made this whole thing far less painful for me.
So, I actually did not have a picture in my mind for how things SHOULD go. I just had the thought "I hope it's complicated and there are points of view or facts that we haven't before been exposed to, and the situation is resolved respectfully for Solas, not making him look like a fucking idiot (lol, the only thing I asked for). I don't even care what happens to Solas and Lavellan, I just need the story to be complicated and interesting to think about. Please, god, don't let it be "solas is wrong and he just needs to be convinced" because that's like the simplest story you could tell with this setup"
(btw they managed to tell Emet-Selch's story without making him seem like he's being an idiot on purpose or can never get anything right, and in fact the more the story goes on, the more you think of him as smart and capable and cool, so it is possible to write.... I wasn't asking for the entire moon)
And I played it and... yeah. Most of the story beats were more simple than I wanted them to be, a lot of them didn't make sense in my heart given the writing from Inquisition. (This is another essay, but if Solas' thematic story arc was always about him needing to let go of regrets, why was his personal quest the way it was? After that quest, doesn't he end up regretting not doing more....? Why did he never really talk about regret during Inquisition? If he was so trapped by regret, why was he able to do so many actions? It doesn't mesh well to me. The whole regret thing was very quarter-baked to me, I don't even like thinking about it.) His story never seemed like one that was as simple as being about one man's regrets, but then, I guess, it was always just about one man's regrets.
Emet-Selch's personal storyline (and the way it interacts with and affects the larger story) is very similar but much more cohesive and satisfying to me. It would be difficult to explain why without the aforementioned 5-hour essay. Emet-Selch's story IS about grief and anguish on a world-shaping scale in a similar way that Solas' was apparently always about letting go of regret, but Emet's story was also very pointedly and beautifully about that one theme for the entirety of his story from every tiny detail, from beginning to end - meanwhile, it seemed to me that they tried to introduce 'regret' as the main thrust of Solas' story only in the short story with the Regret demon onward.
From Inquisition just by itself, the closest I personally could get to a story theme for Solas was his inability to trust others hurting him and the world, but his trusting others in DA4 wasn't really addressed to my satisfaction. He is never required to trust anyone before the ending, he never opens up or makes himself vulnerable at all. People find out information about him, he never really dynamically opens himself. So the personal story I thought he had was never addressed at all, while a new one about regret was introduced that never made a ton of sense to me. And I don't think this is just because of my expectations - my reaction to FFXIV proves that I am able to meet good writing where it goes in surprising directions, as long as it's interesting and thoughtful and clear.
And I think this might be part of what people felt was off about the ending - Solas is sort of uninvolved in the revelations that are about him, and doesn't do much to be part of his own ending. Part of what I loved about Solas in Inquisition is that he is not controlled by you in any way, and so he feels like his own person with a very strong sense of character.
Anyway, Emet-Selch, in a very comparable and arguably more extreme plot position, is very involved in the revelations about himself, he always feels like a very strong character who cannot be affected by the player, and the whole situation is handled with deft emotion and care and delicacy. The story is comparatively very uninterested in litigating Emet-Selch or putting him on trial - the story allows you to simply feel the way that you feel in an organic way, and Emet's story spends that energy instead actually exploring his thematic material about grief and legacy, and the larger story theme of existentialism instead, in a way that is very refreshing and interesting. I've seen a lot of western stories tie themselves in knots over "redemption" and frankly it's almost never been interesting at all. Who cares about any of that. lol
(Now, I guess this is a matter of preference, because some people really like being able to shape a character's story, but idk I rewatched the ending of FFXIV and even though there wasn't a choice with Emet, because it isn't a branching story, his story felt more satisfying to me, maybe because there isn't a patronizing choice to be made for him. He is who he is, and he fulfills a very beautiful narrative role and purpose that no other character could in the story.)
I don't know how this could have been improved to me and still allowed players to choose Solas' ending for him, but I can actually think of a few different methods, none of which involve Rook condescendingly and patronizingly lecturing Solas as if Solas had never thought about a single aspect of this horrible situation he's in before that very moment that Rook lectures him lmfao.
All this to say... idk I'm writing this and I am not going back to edit it so it's stream-of-consciousness. But yeah
I just wanted the story to be complicated on a few more levels than I could have predicted. I genuinely don't care what happened, but I thought of a few twists like the Veil coming down and yeah, I was expecting A Single Twist or reveal to happen. In a Dragon Age game.
I wanted Solas to seem cool and capable and noble and smart, and actually feel like he was as old and experienced as he is.
I wanted a clear theme I could sink my teeth into
Like notice I didn't even say anything about Solavellan. Like I never in 100 years thought they were getting a happy ending where they were both alive in bodies, and I like that we got that, but I would honestly trade it for a more complicated story. To me, if a story is sad you can always write fanfic, but if a story isn't COMPLICATED, that's a much more urgent issue.
These 3 things DA4 didn't give me in a way that satisfied me but FFXIV did. anyway idk the way my hyperfixations work, I completely switch to a new subject so talking about Dragon Age is actually hard for me right now.
#DA4 critical#Dragon Age#FF14#meandering and I don't know what I'm talking about here idk#it's hard to be more clear without getting out very specific examples and I'm not ready to do that yet - I would need to map out the plots#like there are direct 1-to-1 comparisons and for a couple of them Dragon Age is more interesting (mostly stuff in Trespasser) but#like most of them... most of them are better or more successful or more impactful in FFXIV#I think the thing that kills me most is Emet-Selch comes out of FF14 looking capable and wise and thoughtful and Solas does not and#that actually kills me inside... solas is literally a spirit of wisdom#I might need to make that video to explain#anyway FFXIV proves that I CAN be very happy and satisfied with a story even after waiting more than a year and hard speculating about it#so the problem is not my raised expectations - the problem is the lack of complexity

"Didn't want you to?" Remus snorted, "well, sucks to be him, huh? It's a good thing you didn't, I bet he would've hurt you if you did... And yeah, probably. Really? You don't mind your body?" Remus nodded, "I thought you would've, if I'm being honest. You pass so well that I thought you would've hated your body. I don't mind it either, whatever you're happy with then I'm happy with. I just...wanted you to know that you don't have to keep this body if you don't want to. I'm happy with anything." He smiled to him, then he worked his way back up to start washing the blood off of his neck. "I really have made quite a number of bruises on your neck... We better talk to Patton before he freaks out about this."
"Hm, I doubt that would work... I mean, he won't believe you if you call him. Even if you get Roman to call him and tell him directly that he's safe and happy, I doubt he would believe it. I mean, you can try... But that's just my opinion." The man shrugged, "Yeah? Alright, I'll send him a few dogs with a note. Mhm... Well, he clearly likes dogs, judging by Janus, so I think dogs may be the best bet. I'll get on that right away." The man grabbed a pencil and started writing that down on his notes.
"Oh, also, I have something else to report, talking about Remus... So, one of the boys mentioned that they've been keeping tabs on their ex. This ex lives close to Remus, and he used to be Remus therapist. He also is friends with Roman. But neither of them has spoken to this ex for some time. However, as of recently, after you finally got Roman, he's been spending an awfully long time with Remus all of a sudden. He's got some cameras set up inside of his ex house, and this is what he's caught." The man pulled out his phone, and he hit a few buttons. Finally, he presented the phone to Virgil, it was a live feed of Remus and Emile in the shower, and how they were giggling and moaning. "There's feed of them having sex too. Remus cares so much about his brother that he's having sex with someone he hasn't talked to in years instead of searching for his missing brother. That's horrible, don't you think?"
"Oh? He actually wore that and didn't complain? Huh, I thought he would've complained. I bet he looked quite adorable in it! Did you take any pictures of him? I would love to see it! Oh, I'm sure you made that clear amongst the boys, I heard them chatting about how they would love a piece of roman but they cant. Wow! And he let you do that?" The man chuckled, "I bet that was incredibly hot. Have you had sex with him yet? Do you think he's going to get pregnant anytime soon?"
"Hm... Well, that's another matter I wanted to talk to you about. I feel that the mutt is a liability. He may be working on getting out, or be Romans voice of reason. And we can't have that. I do understand that it makes Roman happy, so I agree that he should stay. However..." The man smirked as he opened his file and slid it over to Virgil. "I have an idea... I've been really interested in doing this experiment, but the opportunity hasn't presented itself yet. This is the perfect opportunity." He grinned, "Why don't we turn Janus into a stuffed animal? He won't be able to talk, he won't be able to get into Romans head, and he won't be able to help Roman escape. Hell just be a little plush toy that Roman can hold and feel comforted by. Now... Obviously, Roman would feel distressed to find his friend has turned into a plushie. But, I can manipulate Romans memories to make him think that his plushie has always been that, a plushie." He sipped.
Patton knocked desperately at the strangers door, praying someone, anyone was home. His heart beat as fast and loud as the rain thundering against the sidewalk. He was sure he was being followed, they were going to catch him. They were going to drag him back. He wasn't sure if whoever lived here might be worse, but he was willing to risk it at this point. Anything to escape.
{@moralpuppylover2}
Janus didn't know who would be at the door. It was late, but his master won't surely be home at this time. He normally doesn't get home until the sun starts to come up.
So, as the dog hybrid walked up to the door and opened it, he wondered who it could be. And if he should open it at all... Who knows, he may get in trouble with his master for opening the door. But, his curiosity was getting the better of him-
He stopped when he saw the soaking wet cat standing at the doorway. He could tell that this cat needed help almost immediately. Well, if his poor state of clothes were anything to go by. His eyes flickered up and down the sidewalk before he grabbed pattons arm and pulled him inside.
"are you alright?" Janus nervously asked as he grabbed a towel from the mud room. "Well, that's a stupid question, of course you're not alright! Are you...running away from your owners?" As Janus walked, the collar around his neck would jingle loudly. And even though it was cold outside and even in the house, he only had a pair of boxers on. Because of that, Patton would be able to see the numerous large scars that covered his body...and the countless amounts of fresh bruises.

I think part of what frustrates me about age gap discourse with respect to BTVS specifically is that framing Buffy's relationship with Angel as 'grown man preys on teenage girl' requires that you ignore everything about the context of the show, the context that their relationship occurs within, and also what it means for both of them as characters and for the show as a whole.
It's also just like, really boring?
Like before you get to any of the story reasons why that's just a stupidly reductive analytical framework, you have to start with this: in a story aimed at teenagers, the fantasy is of being special and desired by a sexy immortal, and because the story is aimed at teenagers, the main characters are (or start as) teenagers, since the coming of age narrative that underpins everything else doesn't work without it. Hard to tackle that transition from adolescence to adulthood with a main character who begins the series as an adult!
(And it's not as if coming of age stories for adults don't exist. Phoebe Halliwell is a very good example--unlike her older sisters, she starts off unemployed and kind of adrift and desperate to find a purpose, which she ultimately does as a witch and a Charmed One, and all of this is done while she, as the youngest, is in her early twenties at the series start, because the show is primarily aimed at adults.)
And the thing is, Angel isn't just some adult man preying on a highschooler for kicks because he can't find women his own age. As Angelus, he spent well over a century enamored with Darla and committing wanton slaughter and destruction by her side. As Angel, with the exception of Buffy, all of his love interests are adults, and his love for Buffy is not tied to her youth, innocence, or naivete, considering that it links and binds them so completely that they keep crossing in and out of each other's lives through the end of Buffy's show, with the door explicitly open for a future relationship once Buffy's finished baking.
What draws Angel to Buffy--and what makes their relationship so dangerously compelling and also ultimately spells its downfall as, within the text of the show, it is explicitly a tragedy--is the fact that she's the Slayer.
That's the key point--her status as the Chosen One! He is drawn to her (as all vampires are, to a greater or lesser extent, but it's no accident that her only other truly earth shattering romantic relationship in the series is with another vampire) because she's the Slayer, and because of the soul he was cursed to bear and the guilt he feels for the evil he committed as a vampire, he wants to protect and save her as part of his atonement. He falls in love with her because she brings light back into the darkness he has been cast into since being forced to bear a soul even as a monster. And he would be 241 years old whether he was turned as a teenager and could pass as one of her peers or turned at 26 (the show is inconsistent on the age at which he was turned and it really doesn't matter, since the buffyverse never tries to pretend vampires are 'frozen' at the age they're turned anyway), and yes, part of what is darkly compelling about their relationship is that the age difference is obvious (Sarah Michelle Gellar was 20 and David Boreanaz was 28 during season 1), but the reason Angel being an 'older man' is never considered super relevant (aside from a few lampshades) is because... it really isn't.
The important thing, the critical thing, the thing that matters in the context of their relationship is that Angel is a vampire. That's why when Angel pulls out his 'I'm 241, you're 16' spiel it rings so hollow--because that doesn't really matter to either of them and he knows it. He's trying to push her away because it's the only way he can really protect her, and even then it doesn't work, and they all suffer for it horribly, Buffy most of all. (And even then she can't stop loving him, nor he her, and that makes it all the more tragic when he realizes the only thing he can do for her is leave.)
Also, it really throws into sharp relief the fact that people care so much about Buffy being a teenage girl when it comes to her romantic relationships but not at all when it comes to her being fated to die. Something the show itself is also quite critical of, because that's part of the point--being the Slayer is an awful burden that none of them have ever had a choice but to bear, and Buffy was supposed to die at sixteen years old. The only reason she survives is because she broke the rules by trying to have a normal life in addition to being the Slayer, which is the only reason she has friends to help her and save her, and I'm supposed to look at all of that and care that her broody vampire bf was a 'grown man' when he was turned? Really?
I don't think so. You can't just be willing to take what the show says for itself at face value when it comes to all the fighting and killing and dying but then balk when it comes to sex. That just doesn't work for me. (I mean, you can, and a lot of people do, but it's frustrating, hence this post.)

Claimed by Shadows
Azriel Shadowsinger x reader
summary: Azriel finds out that you are going to be helping your friend Kaelen with a task and he gets a bit...jealous.
warnings: none
"Azriel, wake up!" You shook your boyfriend’s shoulder, trying to rouse him from sleep. You had been at it for the past ten minutes, standing beside his bed, fully dressed and ready for the day, while Azriel hadn't even grazed the hem of consciousness.
Growing impatient, you gave his shoulder a more violent shake, but the stubborn male simply groaned, rolling away from you as if the world beyond his dreams didn’t exist.
You knew he was doing this on purpose. The exaggerated snoring, the way his lips twitched with suppressed amusement—it was all a game to him. Teasing you seemed to be his favorite pastime.
Crossing your arms, you huffed, "Azriel, if you don't wake up, I'm leaving, and you won’t see me the entire weekend!"
That got him moving.
In a blink, Azriel sat up and yanked you down onto the bed, pulling a surprised shriek from your lips. Before you could even register what had happened, you found yourself pinned beneath him, his powerful frame hovering over yours.
"Az!" you gasped, glaring up at him.
He smirked, his golden-brown eyes filled with heat and amusement. His tousled black hair fell over his forehead, his bare chest warm against yours. His lips—plump and pink—parted slightly as he took you in.
"You know," he murmured, voice still husky from sleep, "you look so hot when you're threatening me."
Butterflies erupted in your stomach at his words, and you internally cursed yourself for how easily he affected you.
Rolling your eyes, you retorted, "How would you know? Your eyes were closed."
Azriel grinned. "Touché." Then, before you could say another word, he leaned down and caught your lips in a soft, lingering kiss.
His thumb stroked your jaw as his hand came up to cup your face, and when you tangled your fingers in his soft hair, pulling him closer, a low groan escaped his throat—sending a thrill straight through you.
When you finally broke apart, breathless and smiling, Azriel pressed one last kiss to your forehead before collapsing onto his back and pulling you to his chest.
You lay there, fingers tracing lazy patterns over his stomach.
"You wanna go to the café later today?" he asked casually, brushing his fingers through your hair.
You lifted your head, meeting his gaze through your lashes. "You know, your efforts in asking me on a date have dropped significantly since we started dating."
Azriel playfully swatted at your shoulder. "Do you, though?"
You sighed. "I can’t. I promised Kaelen I’d help him go through some old potion books to find a cure for the plague in the Autumn Court."
Azriel’s brows immediately furrowed. "When? You didn’t tell me about this before."
"I just did," you replied with a teasing smile, reaching out to stroke his cheek.
Azriel sat up suddenly, facing you, his expression unreadable. His lips parted like he wanted to say something, then closed again.
"Are you okay?" you teased. "Shall I fetch a fishbowl for you, Mr. Shadowsinger?"
Azriel ignored your quip, his jaw tightening. "Why you?"
"Because he asked for my help," you shrugged. "It’s not a big deal, Azzie."
Azriel’s expression darkened. "He obviously has a crush on you, Y/N!"
You blinked, then laughed outright. "That’s ridiculous!"
Azriel did not look amused.
"Y/N, I’ve seen the way he looks at you," he insisted. "During training, after training, every time you’re in the same room—"
"He’s my friend," you interrupted, shaking your head. "And even if he did have a crush on me, I’m not interested, so you have no reason to be jealous."
Azriel exhaled sharply, but his grip around your waist tightened possessively.
"I’m not jealous," he sputtered, though the glint in his eyes said otherwise. "I just don’t want another male eyeing what mine"
You grinned. "Okay, that was kind of cute."
Azriel smirked, but you could still feel the tension in his body.
"Now," you continued, pressing a kiss to his cheek before slipping out of bed, "I’m heading down to breakfast. See you there in a few?"
"Yeah," Azriel muttered, watching you go, still brooding.
Breakfast had come and gone, and Azriel never showed up.
You now sat in the Townhouse with Mor, half-listening to her chatter while your eyes constantly wandered to the door, waiting for your missing Shadowsinger.
Finally, Cassian walked in.
"Hey, Y/N," he greeted.
"Hey," you replied, still watching the door.
Cassian raised a brow. "Looking for someone?"
"Yeah," you sighed. "Did you see Azriel?"
Cassian shook his head, offering an apologetic shrug.
Before you could dwell on it, Kaelen appeared in front of you.
"Hey!" he greeted with a smile. "Still good for the library at one?"
"Yep!" you confirmed.
And then—as if summoned by pure spite—the doors finally opened, and in walked the Shadowsinger.
Your stupidly handsome boyfriend zeroed in on you instantly… and then his gaze darkened when he spotted Kaelen.
Striding over, Azriel dropped into the seat beside you and wrapped an arm around your shoulders, kissing your forehead.
"Hey, princess," he murmured. Then, to Kaelen—dryly—"Hey."
Kaelen nodded stiffly, then quickly took his leave.
You turned to Azriel, crossing your arms. "I waited for you for over an hour! Where were you?"
Azriel smirked and pulled a small bag from behind him. "I went to get you this."
You frowned as he held up a blue hoodie with “AZRIEL’S GIRL” embroidered in gold across the front.
"What is that?" you asked incredulously.
"Your outfit," he declared, "for when you’re with Kaelen. So he knows you’re mine."
You groaned. "Azriel, the whole damn Court already knows we’re together!"
"I’d just like to make it extra clear so he can focus his efforts on someone else," he said smugly.
"You’re impossible," you muttered, but a small laugh escaped you.
Azriel leaned in and whispered, "Besides… you look crazy sexy in blue."
Your cheeks flamed, and you shoved him away.
After much persuasion (and lowkey begging from Azriel), you begrudgingly wore the hoodie over your outfit before meeting Kaelen.
"Cool hoodie," he remarked, smirking.
You mumbled a quiet, "Thanks," before diving into your research.
An hour later, as you were packing up, a male dressed in an orange tunic approached Kaelen.
"Hey, babe," the male said, kissing Kaelen’s lips.
Azriel, standing beside you, visibly paled.
Kaelen was—as you had told him—not even remotely interested in you.
Turning to Azriel with a smug grin, you said, "See, Azzie?"
Azriel cleared his throat. "You didn’t say he was gay."
You smirked. "Regardless… you should listen to your girlfriend."
Azriel just groaned.

part two of Max with kitty ears - maxiel, 980 words
Daniel stirs awake with Max still soundly asleep on top of him. He carefully fishes his phone out of his shorts and checks the time – they've been asleep for no more than a couple of hours.
Slowly he extracts his other hand out of Max’s shorts, hoping it won't wake him. Max stirs and tightens his arms around Daniel's torso but doesn't wake up.
Daniel waits a few seconds then unlocks the camera app and takes about a dozen of pictures and videos of them together: of Max, cuddled to his chest, of Daniel's hand in his hair, petting the ears.
He saves all of them to his blackmail folder, along with pictures of Max making breakfast in their kitchen, wearing only Daniel's bright pink socks; Max, wine drunk, passed out in their bed, hugging one of his trophies; a selfie of them, Daniel smiling at the camera, covered in lipstick kisses, Max, hiding his blush being his hands in the background; a few nudes from their message thread.
Then he cards his hand through Max’s hair, scratching behind one of the ears – it seems to finally wake him up. Max grumbles and cuddles to Daniel harder, squeezing his ribs.
“Morning, sunshine,” Daniel murmurs, smiling gently.
Max yawns and his ears flatten back to his head. “It's 4 p.m.,” he groggily points out and lifts himself from Daniel's chest.
“It's morning somewhere,” Daniel shrugs and sits up too, rubbing his neck, it doesn't always agree with Daniel's love for napping on the couch.
“I'm hungry,” Max says, standing up from the couch and stretching, arms behind his head.
Ooh big stretch, Daniel thinks, but doesn't say, because he, not for the first time, gets distracted by Max’s stomach peeking from under his t-shirt.
Daniel follows him to the kitchen. “Alright, what do you want? Milk? Fish?” he pauses, “A mouse?”
Max looks at him, ears flat, annoyed expression on his face like Daniel is one of those journalists with stupid questions.
“Stop being silly or I will ask Jimmy and Sassy to pee in all of your shoes,” he threatens.
“You can speak cat?” Daniel gasps.
He always wanted to know what the two demons think when they sit and stare at a random corner. Or maybe they can finally ask the cats if they do actually feel sad when the bedroom door is closed, as Max always claims.
“No, but they will understand me anyway,” Max replies and hoists himself on the kitchen counter.
“Fair,” Daniel concedes and opens the fridge. Max’s ear flicks at the sound.
“How does it feel, by the way?” Daniel asks, taking out a can of Redbull and handing it to Max. “Having the ears?”
Max cracks open the can and takes a sip. Daniel decides to make sandwiches.
“Weird,” Max says, playing with the tab. “I know they are of course because of the curse, but sometimes I forget. It’s like I always had them,” he muses, rubbing one of the ears.
Daniel hums, moving around Max to take out the ingredients, a cutting board and a knife.
“Sounds are louder, that's the only difference I think,” Max says, stealing a piece of ham from the cutting board.
“You never told how they cursed you,” Daniel prompts, slicing the cheese. He cuts an extra slice for Max to steal again.
Max plops the cheese into his mouth, chews. “Because it's not very interesting. This girl sprinkled a powder on my head,” he explains before taking a sip of his Redbull.
Daniel doesn't know a lot about curses, but that sounds about right. Probably the reason it won't work for long. They are lucky that it was a fangirl essentially pulling a prank on Max, and not someone who actually wanted to harm him.
“Why cat ears anyway?” Daniel asks once the sandwiches are finished, and both of them are sitting at the dining table.
“The doctor said it's probably random,” Max shrugs and takes a bite. He chews a little and hums, pleased.
Daniel feels pride blooming in his chest. He's not the best at cooking, but the meals he does know how to make are good, or better than good, according to Max.
“What animal would I be?” Daniel asks after taking a bite too. “If I got cursed?”
“Hm,” Max hums, squinting at Daniel. He turns his head a little while thinking. Cute.
“I think a poodle, maybe?” he suggests with a smirk.
Daniel lets out an undignified sound. “A poodle?!” he splutters. “They don't even have ears!”
Max looks like he's about to explode. “Daniel, what? All dogs have ears,” he giggles.
All dogs have ears, but poodles have the most ugly ones, Daniel thinks – or imagines. He doesn’t remember the last time he saw one, or if he ever saw one. Regardless, that’s not the point.
“That's very insensitive, you know,” he huffs while Max laughs. “I thought you would say a honey badger. That's literally my brand,” he grumbles, defensive.
“Do honey badgers even have ears?” Max asks, cackling.
“Do they- Of course they have ears, Max!” Daniel says, exasperated. “Small cute ones, on their head,” Daniel explains, lifting his hands to his hair.
“Awww,” Max coos, the bastard. This is Daniel's brand they're talking about. If Max asked what ears he would get, Daniel would've said lion’s, a hundred percent. It's not like the answer would be wrong – a lion is just a big cat.
“Eat your sandwich,” he huffs, nodding at Max's plate. Daniel needs to come up with a revenge for this. Maybe it's time to use the blackmail folder.
“I love you anyway, Daniel,” Max smiles, settling. “No matter what ears you have.”
Daniel rolls his eyes. Fine, revenge can wait.
“I love you too,” he says begrudgingly. “Even after your cat ears are gone,” he smirks.
Max kicks him under the table and takes a bite of his sandwich.

You know maybe this is like a cultural thing but I don't have a man to look after, right, and I'm fulfilled running my household, personally. I find it fulfilling same as anybody else, because yeah, it is inherently fulfilling. It's inherently fulfilling to have a place of my own, over which I have executive authority. In principle I enjoy keeping it tidy, maintaining it, looking after it, and one day I want to bring children into it.
It's my responsibility, which is why in theory I should have the opportunity to go to work to make money in order to take care of it. To have that opportunity, it needs to exist under the law, and I need to be able to theoretically acquire employable skills and then get employed, whether I like working and want to do it or not (I don't, if I could be a lady of leisure I would be, but even ladies of leisure have incomes — just passive ones grown from inherited money).
If you want to do fulfilling things, you need to get money from somewhere to afford to do them, and generally speaking you need the freedom to go and get money in order to consolidate your buns and get up to go get money. Unless another class of people exists that can do it for you, but is it fair to put that on men? They crack under the pressure, you know?
They usually make more than women for the same work, but in this economy it's generally exhausting to try to support a family by yourself regardless of your gender, it's just mildly more so for most women unless they have men that know how to help keep house. I'm a lesbian personally, so my wife and I don't have gendered expectations between us that our egos ride on, but men and women both equally want to be good spouses, and some elements of the traditional expectations around that are confining for everyone.
The reason people object to these influencers isn't because after millions of years of female animals maintaining dens, it's suddenly against women's best interests to live in and run houses. We're going to be doing that until the sun dies.
It's just, in what conditions? If you have a person that loves you and brings you money, freeing you not to work so that you can focus on taking care of the house you love, that's an undisputed good, but health isn't eternal and a lot of people don't.
A lot of people these days choose bad men and then end up trapped with them because they looked for husbands all their teen years instead of studying to do well paying work that could support them and some hypothetical children, in case it went wrong. The danger isn't the advertisement of domestic labour as fulfilling, which at some point you have to grow up and learn to romanticise because you'll be doing it until you die, it's the dishonesty about the economics of householding towards economically illiterate people. In the working class, unless you want to end up in the precariat, even most homemaking women have to work.
That's why intelligent women in very patriarchal or poor or unstable countries are so often doctors, lawyers and engineers. It doesn't pay as much as it pays men, and maybe they don't all even like the job, but it pays enough. They study hard to make sure that in case they chose wrong and made children with someone who abuses children, they can leave under their own power and still provide the children with a good life. They want to make sure that if something happens to the man they love (many people do have happy marriages to men they love, and I hope yours is a beautiful one), they can catch him when he falls and he doesn't have to become a dark statistic.
The advice I give people also from cultures that do this (I grew up orthodox jewish) is don't even think of having your marriage arranged unless you can afford to feed and house yourself, a man and two kids, because you never know, you know? You could need to divorce him, or he could be the most perfectly loving partner in the world and get hit by a car and paralyzed from the waist down. There are ways to lose a man's income that can't be avoided by not being a feminist, and then — poverty, a spiral of mutual resentment, both of you screaming at each other in front of the children.
Is that really aspirational? That's what cute cottagecore TikToks don't show you.
It's much easier to be able to be there for your kids and keep your house if there are two people working, but the world doesn't owe anyone that - anything could happen.
And then suddenly it matters if you don't have the freedom to get an education, or freedom from having to stay with a man that hits you because you couldn't afford to feed yourself and your babies on the salary of someone who didn't go to school. Nothing about law school or lawyering is fulfilling for anyone, but men and women both do it to afford to give their kids a better future than they had.
Responsibility is fulfilling, but it always entails other, less fulfilling responsibility, you know? And a mother will do anything for her children, but I think before they even exist it's her responsibility to make sure she can feed them. It makes for happier families when a household forms from two separate people who each have their own income, and if anything happens to your husband, he should be able to rely on you. The best thing you can do for your family is to be able to look them in the eyes and promise them it will be okay, and you don't have to use the freedom that you have to do that but it's good to have, isn't it? To know it's possible?
influencers actively trying to convince young women to aspire to unemployment and servitude is literally so sinister

I'm having a bit of a downtime. I feel so conscious about my appearance. May I have Quinn reassuring me that I look good?
My love, I'm sure you're absolutely stunning. Chin up, buttercup! 🩷
Quinn hadn't participated in practice today. While he caught up on some rest, you had decided to go into the city for a little retail therapy of your own. Only it hadn't quite gone the way you had hoped. Everywhere you looked, there was a girl you felt was prettier than you, looking at something you had been interested in for yourself. It was easy to look at her, then at yourself, and convince yourself that you couldn't wear it near as good as she could. Self-sabotage and insecurity were bullying you into a early shopping trip.
It didn't matter what you did, they were all beautiful while you felt like trash. What did Quinn see in you, you wondered on the drive back to his apartment. He could have his pick of any Instagram model he wanted, so why had he chosen you? You would beat yourself up the entire time, resigning to tears after parking his car.
You had returned empty-handed.
"What are you doing back so early?" Quinn asked, seeing you walk through the door unexpectedly. He had been in the kitchen making himself some lunch, and had he known you were headed back, would have made you something as well.
"I wasn't feeling it." Your eyes were still red as you caught sight of your reflection in the mirror by the door. Quinn was bound to notice soon enough. "I think I've got a migraine starting."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, babe. Do you have anything you can take?"
"Yeah."
He was genuinely being helpful, but you had blown him off and shuffled past the kitchen towards the bedroom. As he watched you go, your eyes down to avoid making eye contact, he knew there was more to it than the headache excuse. He'd let you go for now, not wanting to push you too much that you just shut down completely.
In the bedroom, you had gotten under the covers, hugging Quinn's pillow like you did when he was away on the road. You didn't want to cry anymore, but you had hurt your feelings so badly that there were no good thoughts left to give you even a drop of confidence in anything.
"Sweetheart?" Quinn asked, darkening the doorway some time later. You had almost drifted off to a nap when he called out to you, and could have faked being asleep, but you weren't trying to be mean to him.
"Yeah?" You mumbled into the pillow.
"Are you alright?"
"Sure."
You could hear him sigh from across the room and soon the feeling of him climbing in to bed with you would finally make you give him your full attention. He had laid his head against the pillow of his you were clutching. His pretty eyes waiting to catch sight of yours desperately.
"What's wrong?" Quinn asked softly, his hand getting lost amongst your hair.
"Bad day."
"You seemed happy when you left." His brows pulled in slightly, trying to guess what had triggered the bad mood. "Did something happen while you were out?"
You bit your lip, pulling your eyes from his face. Why did he have to be so good at figuring out what was bothering you. "Just..."
Patiently, Quinn looked at you, his fingers giving you the gentlest scalp massage while he kept his hand buried deep in your hair.
"I just didn't feel like being shopping, that's all."
"Y|N, why don't you want to tell me?"
"Because it's a stupid reason," you choked out, eyes flicking back to Quinn's in haste.
His gaze softened, "Nothing is a stupid reason if it makes you feel like this, but I won't make you tell me. I just want to know you're alright."
"Why are you attracted to me?"
Quinn's expression twisted slightly. That was about the last question he would have dreamed you'd ask him. "What do you mean? In what way?"
"Why me over some model or something?"
He'd raise his head, propping himself up with his right arm. "I wasn't attracted to you because of your looks, sweetheart. That's just an added bonus. Do I come off that petty?"
"No, you don't. I just-- it's hard to not judge myself against all the other girls that could have my spot. I told you it was a stupid reason."
There was deep concern in Quinn's expression. There were few things he hated more than when you got down on yourself.
"As cliche as it might sound, looks eventually fade and no longer matter. What makes you, you, is your personality, baby. It's what shines through any amount of makeup or outfit. You can't fake a personality, not a real one. You know, as good as I do, that there are plenty of girls faking all of that just to get with any of us. They can't keep up the charade, and away they go, and another takes their place. Do you know how refreshing it was to meet you? How you genuinely smiled? That little snort you let out when you laughed at yourself for being nervous asking for that autograph? Do you remember how bad I blushed? I could hardly sign that jersey. I thought I was going to have to replace it because my signature looked like a fake."
You laughed softly remembering that day. He had been a little bit of a bumbling mess but it was so cute.
"You kept popping up in my head the whole rest of the day. Your eyes, your smile, hell, even that perfume you had been wearing. Drove me crazy all day. I see beautiful women everyday, but not a one of them are waiting for me back home like you are. I don't picture any of them waiting for me, wearing one of my t-shirts like you do. Each time I hear your voice when I'm away, I melt, because I get to hear it every--single--day."
You had been chewing on your bottom lip to keep the tears at bay and Quinn had noticed. The hand that had been lost in your hair moved to hold your face, and his thumb would coax your lip from between your teeth.
"You're the only person I have eyes for -- the others are just people. You're my baby, and I love you. They don't mean anything to me. You have my heart."
"Quinny~" you whispered, knowing everything he said was his raw, unfiltered truths.
"I mean it, all of it. You might think the other girls are prettier than you, but I don't. Not for a second. You're the only one I want."
You didn't know what to say. His ability to melt away any bad mood you were dealing with, soothe any hurt feeling you had, and reassure you through it all had been a natural talent. It was times like these that you didn't feel like you deserved him, but you'd never tell him that. You knew already that he hated when you put yourself down and when you thought you should have less. Instead, you'd try to be thankful for him taking the time to explain his reasonings to you.
"I'll reassure you more, if you want me to. I just need to know. I'll do whatever I can to make you feel better, just to keep stuff like this from happening. I just don't want you to shut me out, okay?"
You'd give him a nod. "I'm sorry to be this way."
Quinn smiled, "It's alright. Do you think I don't wonder why you put up with me half the time?"
"But I love you!"
"Exactly! Because I know you love me -- that you truly love me for me and not the other stuff-- I don't have to worry about anything else; I don't let the other stuff rule me. Does that makes sense?"
"Mhm," you nodded.
"And before you say it, you don't need to be sorry. Things happen, and sometimes we just need a little more to see what we've been overlooking."
The air went out of you like a balloon. Quinn's ways with words left you speechless more times than you thought he realised.
"If it would make you feel better, I'll take you out sometime next week and let you know how beautiful I think you'd look in anything you try on. Anything you like, it's yours. No limit."
"Quinn~"
"I mean it. If it makes you smile, I want you to have it."
"You make me smile."
He laughed softly, "You have me already, silly."
You'd roll over on your back as he climbed on top of you, lips hovering just above each other's. "Unless you're wanting something more. Then I can give you that, too."

proposing some kind of alternate 2/2, where the thieves decided to check on joker just to make sure he's not tempted by maruki's deal, barged in to the cafe, and found out that akechi's life on limbo. more in cut
so if you ask me, i actually enjoyed their rivalry relationship a lot! but i also think it's placed in an awkward situation: the thieves don't hate him, especially because he wasn't fully at fault, but also i'm sure some of them will hold grudge or mixed feelings about him (and i think this bleeds into the writers too*). or in case of royal trio (which interactions i also enjoyed, but have a catch:), it's kinda funny how sumire doesn't actually know what happened to akechi in depth.
it makes sense for their relationship to be more "secluded/secretive" from the team, but also this is why i find it to be rocky if their relationship continue further, be it platonic or romantic, whatever you prefer. i can't imagine how will futaba feel if she found out, for example – given how much she seems to not care much about akechi**. and the game (understandably, for pacing reasons) keeps on avoiding to explore the nuance of akechi-joker's relationship effects deeper in the game.
the concept is not only for joker to be even more torn seeing his friends arguing & akechi's fate, but also to see the polarization among the thieves, akechi being conflicted between disgusted and teammate care (boiler room but worse?), and maruki regretting seeing that he's not making things any better or easier for everyone, especially joker (hoo may be interesting to see how the thieves feel about maruki too after this).
well, i still wish for a P5RST game that reunites them all, one of them because i want this to be explored..... oh well. i know his arc has a closure already, but... yeah. i'm honestly more of a platonic akeshuake guy because of this (i've also always been a platonic guy in general, though), but i also don't like the crowd who thinks the PT hates him and thinks they only see them as a killer. and i think resolving the awkward situation between the PT and akechi could make more players open up about the dynamics between them that can be explored, instead of being stuck thinking the extremes.
* a prominent example of this was ryuji. ryuji brought up akechi a lot as one of the reasons upon confronting shido (he even banged the boiler room door), but then said "uh it was for joker" when akechi thanked them for taking shido down in 3rd semester mementos. while i think this is possibly because ryuji has a bigger affinity for joker because well, he's the team leader, close friend, and akechi is still at wrong, i thought it was a bit... backlashy tone wise? i was under the assumption that he did it both for akechi and especially joker, but the mementos dialog made it sound like he only did it for joker. just felt kinda rough in showing the nuance on how he feels.
** like the talk when they all found out the effects of maruki's reality wearing off. when the topic was about realizing akechi "dies" once again, she ignored it and brought up about her mother instead. though, i think this is still more of the consistent examples in writing how each thieves feel about akechi. she has always been bringing up about her mother more often in shido arc, while still can understand where akechi came from.

That makes sense, that philosophy of "it gets worse before it gets better" does make for a more gripping and interesting storyline ^^
Yeah me too! I was thinking about those videos too
Thanks and I can't help but wonder the same thing...
Me too AAAAAAAAHHH
I'm too far in, I have to see what happens next! Also Wreck-Gar, I need to make it through for him
And like I said on Discord I'm thinking maybe just declaring that everyone who dies is brought back to life in an off screen contrived deus ex machina, and then decides to retire from the conflict and do something else and that's why they don't show up again.
That or the version that died was an imposter and the real one wanted to fake their own death for whatever reason I think would fit them the best. To keep up the ruse that they were dead, they'd have to avoid the bots they were around before so that's why we don't see them again
I just had a huge realisation yesterday and I wanted to share this after going through some pretty horrible stuff over the weekend: Something I've always asked myself ever since getting into G1 Transformers was "why do you like Starscream so much even though he's a narcissistic bully? Why are you, someone who is a victim of narcissistic abuse, taking comfort in a narcissistic character?" Well, I think I finally figured it out. Because Starscream is also a victim of that very same abuse. I mean, he's beaten, called names, bullied, unappreciated, abused, and put through the wringer…and he internalised all that abuse because he knew no other way. He had no one to turn to, and the few bots who did support him, he treated like dirt. Once he had that freedom and power, he abused it and became the very thing that abused him. I have no doubt he was always self-centred, selfish, had a huge ego, etc. before all that but honestly? I think Megatron's abuse caused him to turn out the way he did. I could have turned out that way and it's a little scary, some of the parallels I'm drawing with him.
@ichbinmeltdown wrote a great analysis on Starscream that I want to share here:
"Megatron was abusive as hell to Starscream. He treated him horribly, and I legitimately almost cried a few times watching it. There's an episode called Starscream's Brigade that introduces the Combaticons, and I think that perfectly demonstrates the cycle of abuse. The entire world is against Starscream at pretty much every turn throughout the series, but none more so than Megatron. Every word out of his speech synthesizer to Starscream is to berate him, and he's constantly throwing him around, beating him, even ripping out his speech synthesizer in a scene from a previous episode (Hoist Goes Hollywood, IIRC). His own teammates don't like him, and even his brothers- Skywarp and Thundercracker, going off of the idea they're brothers- just... allow Megatron to abuse him. (Not to get into headcanons here, but I personally believe that Megatron's abuse fractured the Elite Trine's family dynamic. They are still brothers and love each other, but they're all too afraid of Megatron to really... stand up for each other as they did in the past.) And Starscream seemed to just snap in this episode. He treated the Combaticons poorly, and even when teaming up with Shockwave, he subjected him to a lot of the same ridicule and torment that Megatron put him through. He failed to realize Shockwave was the one of the only bots who would give him a chance- and unfortunately lashed out at him, which ruined his chances of Shockwave ever being a true friend and ally to him. Once Starscream had finally gotten a taste of power and not being under another bot's boot, he too became the very thing that he lived in fear of. And that really is how the cycle goes- when you're finally free from abuse, it can be tempting to overcompensate and take back all the power you were robbed of, at any cost whatsoever. Starscream, like D16 in Transformers One, snapped up this opportunity."
And the sad thing is, I've seen this in real life and I've internalised some of the abuse I've dealt with too. I'm not proud of it. Like the Seeker Trine, my own family dynamic has been fractured by similar abuse. I know there's traces of narcissism in my behaviour too, and I'm NOT proud of it. Maybe this is why I can forgive Starscream for being a narc, because I can see a little bit of my own personality/attitude/behaviour in him. Maybe it's because I know where it came from, I get why he acts that way and it's not just random and out of the blue. Maybe it's because--and I know this is a bold statement--I don't think he would do some of the stuff my own family did to me (blah blah blah he's a fictional character).
I didn't mean for this to turn into a long rant, so
TLDR: I finally figured out that part of the reason I love and relate to Starscream so much despite him internalising some of the abuse I went through, is because he was the victim of that same abuse.
#y'all cannot stop me from doing mental gymnastics to avoid facing the fact that the writers killed my faves off#transformers

wrt keeping degloved Jim alive, in pre-release content Anya questions keeping Curly in that state & Swansea gloats so they're aware it's a form of passive torture and the game contrasts Swan/Jim's response to their friend's suffering which makes the answer more complicated imo. Not saying you're wrong or should change your AU, just throwing out an explanation for the other perspective. I'm aware taking a life is beyond most people but keeping him alive seems the more vengeful choice if anything.
Yea, sure I can see keeping him alive might be a vengeful choice, but I'd say it depends on how you see it and how the characters would see it, same as it is in canon. If we ask why the crew would keep Jimmy alive, then we have to think about why they kept Curly alive in the game too. And with Curly's opinion added instead of Jimmy's, I don't see him as someone who would entertain the idea of a 'mercy kill' to his close friend (if he would even consider it as mercy). The crew was convinced Curly crashed the ship (however in jimblasted they got the culprit right) and he was kept alive as much as those around him resented him for allegedly "trying to take them all down with him". The crew may have different reasons to kill them or keep them alive but it's about which decision is final and I don't think it would differ here.
And yeah, Anya not being a 'spiteful' or vengeful person doesn't mean she'll make right choices, she doesn't do so in the story and that's what makes this game brilliant. There is so much impacting everyone's decisions all the time, I think Anya's line "Are we doing the right thing?" is the exact nuance that is so interesting and I think it's twice as interesting to think if it was Jimmy, of all people. Something about how they would treat the worst of people at their most vulnerable state, and including the fact that a couple of those caring for them were deeply hurt by the person in question.
Btw this is something I already have comics planned to explore more, especially with Anya interacting with Jimmy post crash. Actually one of my greatest motivators to start this au was exploration of Anya's character specifically, her scenes with Jimmy are one of the first I ever wrote for jimblasted, but that won't come out until way later when the plot moves. And others in the crew will get their character a spotlight on their thoughts on Jimmy and what to do with him eventually too :)
#jimblasted au#asks#mouthwashing#anya mouthwashing#linkch yaps#jimmy mouthwashing#by 'having it planned' I mean I have many dialogues and scenarios in my notes app pretty much written out like all my scripts for jimblast.

hyunjin x reader
genre: fluff, angst
content warnings: work exhaustion
word count: 1.2k
summary: you let yourself belittle your own problems because surely they couldn't be as bad as your idol boyfriend's own ones?

1K FOLLOWERS PLAYLIST 💚🖤 MAIN MASTERLIST
You always found it interesting how you were held up by a strong armour of bones; how you'd practically be jelly without them, but when your boyfriend was Hwang Hyunjin, all of those existential thoughts trickled away. Sure, those things were true, they were facts, yet he was the one to hold you up when you couldn't do it on your own anymore and you'd be lying if you said that sinking into his arms after a hard day of work didn't also turn you into jelly. To tell a long story short, you lived and breathed Hyunjin and him, you.
Almost instinctively, he could tell something was wrong the minute, no, the second you hobbled in through the freshly painted, front door of your new home. The two of you had only recently moved in, so with the combination of unpacking your joint array of various possessions and also going to work everyday, you were exhausted. Hyunjin had insistently reasoned with you that you didn't have to wake up early in the tiresome mornings to work. He could cover it. That didn't sit right to you. It didn't feel fair. You wanted to start this new chapter of your lives as equals, wanting to contribute and provide too.
"Baby, you're back!" Hyunjin's soft voice cooed as he immediately encased you with his long limbs. Just like that, you were putty in his hands. He brought such comfort to you, such a warmth that he could melt the ice caps.
"Hyune," you simply said his name whilst burying your face into his neck. The small exhale of air as you sagged against him told him everything he needed to know in confirming if he was right or not. Something had to be wrong.
"What's wrong, darling?"
"Nothing's wrong."
Liar, he thought. Before he could press you further, however, you were reluctantly leaving his arms to crouch down and unbuckle the boots you had worn that day, a wince forming on your face as you did.
"You sure? Why you scrunching up your nose like that, baby?" Hyunjin's tone remained delicate with you but you didn't mind it. It didn't feel demeaning, it was comforting considering the people you had been around today. He rubbed careful circles into your shoulders, keeping contact with you as you stood back up and looked at the floor unsurely.
"I'm fine," you sighed, huffing as you pushed some hair out of your face.
"I already know that you've had a hard day," Hyunjin let out a sigh of his own, bringing up a hand to caress your cheek. It grabbed your attention and your eyes to met his.
"Did my manager call or something? Why would they tell you? I'm honestly doing perfectly well," you groaned, the frown on your face disappearing as quickly as it came with Hyunjin smoothing out the furrow of your brows.
"Not because of your manager, but because I know you," he led you into the kitchen, making you sit down whilst he filled up a glass with some water.
"Thanks, Jinnie," you mumbled before taking a few sips. The rush of ice cold water through your body should have alerted you to letting your walls back up like you usually did, but your boyfriend had always told you to be honest with him and that you could be, so there was no stopping you now.
"I've been really tired recently and going into work should feel good for me with having the routine but I think I'm finding it... tricky?"
As you spoke your thoughts and feelings, Hyunjin listened intently from next to you, a hand resting on your arm as to not overwhelm you too much. His fingers caressed the skin that he could reach beyond your sleeve.
"You always say 'tricky', baby, but how do you really find it?" Hyunjin spoke up after a moment.
"Umm, well, I do find it tricky... Like, it's difficult. It's quite possibly wearing me down a bit," you admitted, rubbing your forehead with your thumb and index finger, trying to soothe the impending headache you've been getting every evening this week so far.
"Oh, baby... you'll be okay," Hyunjin pressed against you, hands cupping your cheeks and wiping away some stray tears you didn't even notice had made their appearance, "Let's go cuddle, yeah? That always seems to help."
He had lit a candle in the bedroom, the orange glow setting a calming hue across the bedroom walls. You had never been happier than the decision you had made in unpacking the bedroom as a priority, being able to snuggle beneath the shining, silky sheets. Face to face with you, your boyfriend stroked your hair with one hand, the other resting on your lower back.
"Talk to me, baby," Hyunjin began.
"I already have," you groaned, shutting your eyes.
"There's something else, I can tell," Hyunjin murmured.
"Isn't."
"There is."
"Ughhhhhh."
"Flopping about like a fish won't get you out of this, baby" Hyunjin giggled, arms wrapping around you tighter to cease your random movements.
"Fine. It's just, I can't just stop going to work, Jinnie," you chewed your lip as you paused, "I don't even do as much as you do as an idol and I end up tired and complaining. It's not fair to you."
"Is this why you hold back so much with these things? Because you keep making comparisons?" Hyunjin frowned, "Baby, I'm not going to make it a competition and tell you that I'm more tired or tell you that you don't work hard. I can tell that you do, I see that every day."
"You don't see me at work though-"
"That's not my point," Hyunjin whined, smacking you on the arm playfully.
"Oh."
"Yeah, 'oh'," he giggled at your blank face.
"I just want you to rest and relax. We'll take a nap, have a nice dinner and then enjoy the weekend, how's that sound?" Hyunjin kissed you on the forehead for a couple of seconds, relishing the feeling of holding you so dearly.
"It's the weekend?" your eyes widened ever so slightly despite the sleepy haze that had taken over.
"You're so silly," Hyunjin giggled lightly, shuffling closer to you and lifting you so that you could rest your head on his chest. Once again, that light, airiness returned to you as well you could think about was him. Not about work or any other worries that entered your mind. They had floated away just as easily as you did into a peaceful sleep, not needing that strong armour to hold you up in this moment. You were safe, loved and cared for whenever you were around Hyunjin and that's all you needed.

Ahhhhh your theory about how Vein died is sooooooooooo fucking real. Like I've seen people talk about how Lu Guang might have a secret power? But I feel like that's not the case cuz then we might have seen it play out in S1 and S2. Lg would surely would have used it in the fight with Qian Jin.
for context, anon is talking about this post where I theorize how vein "died." I go into it in more detail there, but the tl;dr version of it is: no lu guang did not kill him vein directly. he just delayed vein from entering the clinic early, thus creating a butterfly effect (hence his whole speech about it) that led to wang qing being awake when vein tries to leave with the notebook, thus creating an opportunity for her to "kill" vein which she wouldn't have had originally. but liu xiao interrupted this chain of events and that's why vein is alive using the faking death ability.
I am linking the reblog version here because other people have added their own thoughts since the creation of the post. I'm not sure if anon has seen it or just the original post, because in my original post I posit that liu xiao has the faking death ability. but after seeing other people's thoughts, I am now more leaning to the idea that wang qing has the faking death ability or perhaps, that a combination of wang qing and liu xiao is what made the "heart attack but fake death" happen. perhaps (unintentionally) they created a power combo-ing effect similar to how lu guang and cheng xiaoshi can create a mind link across time when combining their powers, or how li tianchen can possess people across space by proxy of li tianxi.
a power combo that works across "death" would be interesting, though this is merely speculative at this point. it would certainly provide another perspective to why they're paired up in the ed.
to now address anon: yeah, exactly. even if the addition of non-photo based powers is a recent change in writing direction (that they may not have had foresight on during the writing of previous seasons), it still would be too much of a drastic change for lu guang to be hiding another ability.
as I said in the post, it is unfortunate that we have to rely on information outside of the show to make sense of it, but yingdu really does make more sense when you've seen the recent interview with director li. in particular, it is heavily implied that liu xiao has more than one ability, and the process of gaining an ability (aside from inheritance from parents) is through death or stealing it from others.
while I am a believer in the idea that lu guang is willing to do morally questionable things for cheng xiaoshi, I don't think he would've had an opportunity to just get a new ability so soon after he just got the diving ability from cheng xiaoshi. on the flip side, if he always had multiple abilities since he was a kid, it would be bad writing lmao because then why has he never used it until now? especially when he's been timelooping for who knows how long to avoid a death node. I know link click is possibly retconning some details (2018 is now 2019, they changed the plans for red eyes, etc etc) but I don't think this would be a retcon they'd do because it would change too much of lu guang's character.
I am going to use this ask as a jumping off point to talk about yingdu's storytelling style, and how we should take this into account when analyzing this season. putting this under the cut now since this gets long and is kinda just a tangent now to the ask itself, though it does circle back to lu guang's role in vein's "death" in the end.
part of the reason vein's death is confusing is definitely because of the animation of lu guang puppeteering wang qing. I can totally see how people would come to the conclusion that lu guang was controlling her somehow. but we have to remember that yingdu is not like S1 and S2, for multiple reasons. one, it's a shorter season meant to introduce plot hooks, not plot; it's a setup for S3. two, it's a change in perspective from cheng xiaoshi's more grounded reality to lu guang who has been timelooping for forever. three, it was animated by a different studio than studio lan. fourth, it aims to provide a different story, and the storytelling style reflects that.
whereas S1 and S2 has a storytelling style that focused more on plot details and building up tension; yingdu focused more on relationships and emotions. it heavily uses visual metaphors in its storytelling compared to previous seasons.
in a way, although I have qualms about yingdu's writing, I do think visual metaphors is a valid solution to the problem of, "we only have six episodes to establish new plots and characters and motivations. how do we convey information efficiently in that amount of time without compromising artistry?"
I will mention one metaphor in detail that will be relevant for the lu guang discussion later. one example is glasses as a perception metaphor. this meta was written in YE5, and YE6 continues the metaphor as well because we see lu guang wear clear glasses for the first time, symbolizing that he is no longer stuck in his rose-tinted glasses era of looking into the past, and has decided to look into the future, solidified by his decision to remove vein from the situation and also because he reveals later that this is the last time he can loop.
there are, of course, more examples. idk if I have links for existing meta on this, but we have hands as a metaphor for relationships (hand holding, handshakes, fist bumps, etc) and the power balance of each relationship (with regards to secrets, deals, etc). we have various color theories floating around. we have theater/cinema and chess as metaphors for everyone's narrative roles. lu guang's imaginary clock as a metaphor for how he thinks the timeline should go, and how it's prevented from running by red strings forming the word BRIDON. we even see the clock fall apart in one of the later episodes (I forget which one atm). hell I could write a whole meta on liu xiao's tetris game as a metaphor for how he sees the "game" he's playing and the role xia fei plays into all of it.
side note: I think it's incredibly valid for people to feel that yingdu did not have enough space to properly establish characters, and I feel the same way too. but at the same time, I think a lot of characterization also gets missed in yingdu because it's a season that loves its metaphors and encodes character motivations through it instead of just showing it to us. I have conflicting feelings about this, but ultimately, they only had 6 episodes to tell a story, and I think that's something we should always keep in mind when managing expectations.
circling back to vein's "death" and lu guang's role in it... visual metaphors are gonna be confusing if people don't know this is what yingdu's storyelling heavily uses. I don't think we should be reading yingdu the same way we did S1/S2.
someone could watch lu guang puppetering wang qing and think, "oh he's using her to kill vein directly" but if we stick to yingdu's storytelling style, it is more likely a metaphor for him learning to manipulate the butterfly effect for his purposes (again also symbolized by the glasses metaphor, since he wears clear glasses in the same episode)
scenes should also not be taken out of context. there is a reason he made a whole speech about the butterfly effect first. a small change (delaying vein) results in a big change (killing vein). if lu guang was controlling wang qing or whatever, that is not a small change. that is not a butterfly effect. we literally had a butterfly land on lu guang's shoulder after he made this speech to vein. the point was to create a butterfly effect that would lead to a situation where vein dies.
and for my final tangent: this sets us up perfectly for S3 because I believe lu guang and liu xiao are supposed to be narrative foils.
they both have expressed wanting control over the timelines. liu xiao wants "to make uncertainties into certainties" (whatever this means) and lu guang wants "to make certainties (cheng xiaoshi's death node) uncertain." but as of S1 and S2, lu guang was not yet in a position to properly rival liu xiao over this theming, because we know he's been timelooping and failing over and over to save cheng xiaoshi, while liu xiao has been successfully manipulating people into doing things for him (getting li tianchen to retrieve liu min's phone for him; baiting cheng xiaoshi to go to bridon so he can use him to bait wang qing to revealing where she hid the location of cheng weimin's notebook so vein can steal it).
now, lu guang has shown some semblance of control. and we have seen the effects of it. cheng xiaoshi is still alive and well in a post-S2 post-yingdu timeline.
I mentioned this way back in YE2, but there's also a distinct change in the way we're moving from "closed loops" to "butterfly effects" as a theme in yingdu. yingdu has many objectives it wanted to do as a season, but the main one was lu guang learning to manipulate the timelines through creating a butterfly effect. in keeping with this theme and objective, it just does not make sense for him to kill vein by somehow directly controlling wang qing.
#ask me stuff#anon#link click#link click meta#link click spoilers#liveblogging link click#this had so many grammatical errors in the initial posting lmao sorry to everyone who read the initial version#no edits though other than that#lx notes#<- this post is about lg but there's mentions of lx as his foil here

Well it's that time again for another JJK rant.
So by this point I would assume that most of you know my eternal hatred towards the enemies to lovers trope when it comes to Gojo x reader stories right.
Well we are back at it again cause I am hoping people know that this type of relationship isn't one that Gojo would ever go for. Like it's one of those things that the fandom latched on to like My Hero Academia Hawks being a flirty playboy. It's not something that fits the character but it something that so many people latched on to that they now believe that it's a thing.
Like Gojo knows his worth and value. He literally dislikes those that he views as stuck up or just down right unlikeable. Aka every reader in the enemies to lovers trope. Like you are telling me you hate this guy for no reason but it's okay because your only saving grace is that he finds you attractive.
Seriously.
That is the how 95% of them go. Also to even it out they would make Gojo do some out of pocket stuff to justify the reader treating him like dirt while also always making him the bad guy even if he did nothing wrong.
I am so sick of this copy and paste trope. Now I know i don't have to read it which I don't. If I see it I keep scrolling. Although there are gems I sadly just skip past them because I'm used to the bad and boring ones. (Lowkey reminds me of the dumbest Gojo x reader story on wattpad called Debt. Freaking dumbest reader/mc I have ever read couldn't even get past the first few chapters. The first and only time this has happened)
Another thing is bad reverse harem stories. Like I don't care the reader is 18! Why are men close to their 30s trying to have a relationship with them? Why is said 18 year old trying to have a romantic relationship with freshly turned 15 year old? Look 18 maybe considered an adult but it's still gross and it would have been better if the reader was 20 and up. Also if you want your reader to have love interests that are 15 then they should at least be under 18.
I am sick of gross age gaps, don't care if you are 20 years old dating a 30, 40, or whatever just make it legal! 18 isn't a cheat code!
Also harems suck since they either end up with no one, end up with someone not in the harem, or worst not even completed. Yet, the biggest crime is as I said it before the gross 18 year old cheat code.
Finally the last of my random rant which has to deal with genders and sexyal orientation. Stop writing about boy x boy if you are only going to stereotype them. Yes gay mean may like to be more of the feminine side but NOT all of them. Not all males who prefer to be a bottom want to wear feminine clothes and act like a femboy.
Not all trans people want to be just a title! Don't include them if you are not even going to try! Same with the non binary or gender neutrals. Don't include them but give traits that have a gender that goes against their stances. It's wrong.
Also I lied this is my final rant. Stop saying it's a reader story if you are not going to be neutral. For example giving a reader appearances that instantly alienate a reader. Sure I understand fem reader or male reader tags but to then give them hairstyles, skin tones that alienate others, or ect. I'm a POC (Person of color) and it sucks when you are reading something and instantly shown you are not included. Luckily the anime community is slowly but surely getting more inclusive. No I'm talking about those that want to read reader stories from fandoms like The Boys (Scarlett Witch took over i swear) or (Squid Games I know it's in Korea but dang why can't I be american?).
Anyway that's all. I would love to read and possibly reply to comments. Some may agree others not so much which is far I am criticizing something so it's 100 okay to throw it back!

Reasons why Blumbridge slaps -
Blumbridge refers to the ship Regulus Black/Dolores Umbridge.
There's an idea floating around that Dolores Umbridge would have attended Hogwarts the same time as Regulus Black, and I've seen a couple of posts on it, many by @plecotusauritus and today as I was soaking some sunshine, I thought to myself: why not, actually. And here you go, a mini essay on why Umbridge and Black were secretly lovers, or could-have-beens, or perhaps Umbridge is actually harboring an assumed-dead Black scion during OoTP.
All in good fun :-) Feel free to add your own reasons!
A. They're passionate about their interests and hobbies. Pair this up with good decor taste, and you've got Regulus’s room with clippings of Voldemort, his path to a better Wizarding World, and a beautifully painted Black Family crest, and green interiors. Why won't you pair that up with Dolores' setup of her offices - both at Hogwarts and at the Ministry - where she has the prominent theme of pink, and florals and of course, her special interest: cats and teapots?
Which brings me to my next point:
B. They have clear ideas of what they want to look like. I'm talking the colour schemes they've figured out for themselves.
Pink for Dolores, and not just any pink, it's the in-your-face pink, to portray the image of a saccharine, feminine witch, a purposefully deceptive image once you hear her vocalise her decidedly unsweet agenda.
Now, Regulus has a lot less screen time so we cannot be clearly sure if his passion for green and silver runs as strong so as to appear prominently in his daily attire, but from the glimpse of his room, and the fact that he's, well, a Slytherin, you bet he flashed his House colours as much as he could. Perhaps to rub it in the face that he was a true Black, honoring their traditions and respecting his forefathers.... unlike a certain brother of his.
C. Vocal about their agenda. Remus cannot get a job because of her draft of the Werewolf Legislation. Her reign at Hogwarts seeks to let people know that following Umbridge's rules are the only way to live. Regulus definitely lets his superiority over muggleborns in school known, and considering what Kreacher says of him in Deathly Hallows, his becoming a Death Eater is to seek out glory and power over those inferior.
D. Okay, the most interesting part, CANON will support me on this ship. Hear me out. Umbridge wears the Slytherin locket Regulus died for! It's practically fate the way it wound into HER hands, all the way from Grimmauld Place. The tragedy??? Plus in a world where Regulus didn't die and the locket wasn't a horcrux, you bet that he would give it as a courting gift.
E. Of course Umbridge denies that Voldemort is back!! (In An AU where Regulus is alive) She doesn't want her boy to be in trouble!!!!
F. Dolores' bloodthirsty approach (literally) and abuse of her authority contrasts against Regulus’s search for autonomy after Voldemort violates the rules of magic by creating a horcrux, and his failure to find authority over Muggles. So, Dolores being successful in pushing out the Muggleborn Registration act makes her all the more attractive to Regulus.
And, in a world where Voldemort didn't exist, if Regulus took a career in the Ministry, a workplace romance with an ambitious and cunning woman sounds like an easy setup for a good story.
There can also be a parallel drawn between the two on how they are less attractive than other characters, Umbridge described as a "toad" and Regulus as "rather less handsome than Sirius"...
In conclusion, to me, it seems like the strong dominance of Umbridge's character will balance the quiet resilience of Black's. And that maybe, amongst the felines covering Umbridge's decorative plates, one of them is the feline Animagus form of Regulus Black.
