the thing about the batfam as a concept is that you have to understand that the creation of the batfam as a concept started entirely with prodigal and dick & tim.

the batfam as it becomes does not exist without prodigal. the expansion of the connected bat universe in the 90s does not exist without prodigal. prodigal is the cornerstone of the foundation of the direction of batcomics in the 90s. this is not to say there has never been a family aspect to batcomics, there absolutely had been in the past. but as far as modern day conceptions of it...prodigal is the absolute necessary origin. it's so important.

#like yea there were team ups. jpv was there for a bit #but that also wasn't batfam at the time #that was just...other characters interacting temporarily #and yea jpv comes back and is at least nominally batsquad #but none of that squad expansion exists without prodigal #90s bat event comics can all be traced back to prodigal #because anything before really was just the usual batman robin alfred
