Well. I took a 5-minute captioning job, spent almost two hours on it, then rejected it because I wouldn't have been able to finish it before time ran out and really had no idea what I was doing
That was maybe not the best move. I probably should have still tried to finish it or actually finished it, depending on what happened when time ran out -- whether submitting it late was an option or if it would have been automatically passed to someone else
Anyway it is very clear that I would need access to more training materials to actually do the job. I have no idea what they want me to do re: syncing the captions to the audio. All I have at the moment is the style guide, which doesn't go into that at all
So, not sure what's going to happen there. Maybe rejecting the job will get someone's attention and they'll actually fucking talk to me/get me access to the other training materials?
Edit: Emailed support AGAIN but not getting my hopes up
Also maybe it doesn't matter because I kind of need the work regardless, but I'm not sure if I like it. I would rather just transcribe, not deal with syncing. And while I'm sure I would get faster over time, given how long it took to work on just 5 minutes of audio...the hourly rate is maybe not as good as I assumed. Probably a good bit less than I'm used to making, actually
I don't know. At this point, I guess I'm hoping my old/current job picks up to the point that it is actually lucrative again because that is what I like and what I'm familiar with. But if they actually send me the information I need to do this new job, I'll give it another shot
