absently fantasizing about someone finding some unpublished ewh manuscript for a 4th raffles series. as one does. raffles' sister writes to bunny maybe, she never knew anything ofc and they never met but she was fond of her brother and she understands. so hes compelled to write up another 8 or 9 little adventures. maybe one is the ever hinted but never fully explained school-aged sneaking out. a few more from ham common now that some time has passed and theyre not open cases to be a risk for bunny to write about. it ends with a short structurally last-word-esque epilogue about raffles showing up on bunny's doorstep in 1908 or so because of course he survived and of course he couldnt come back right away but hes here now and wont bunny run away with him one more time?
#it doesnt NEED another set ofc like the ending we have is good#idk i just keep thinking abt raffles sister tho...#they were close! did she know anything! did anyone tell her! did she get left his things!#how many times did SHE find out abt his death and/or disgrace in the newspapers or bunnys writing bc no one knew to contact her#and i think the framing of her reaching out to bunny is a nice continuation of the little pattern w him meeting teddy and gwen#but mainly i was rereading some of the pastiches yesterday#and i think what a lot of them are missing is the like. throughline of some theme in their rlationship#none of them has the pathos that ewh gives bunny and theyre just that bit flatter for it#and theyre all framed more as adventure stories than the ogs ever are after the first series#and i think to actually pull it off ud have to give it one of those framing devices#of bunny looking back at their rship w some new lens sparked by a more recent event#(1908 chosen to be not too long after bunny and teddy run into each other at the baths btw#but it doesnt rly matter when it could b earlier#any time at all is still ANOTHER instance of raffles faking his death and letting bunny grieve and coming back like its nothing)#a#crime and cricket
