Another aspect in the ‘it’s not not true’ that I think some people may have lost sight of- funding things, generally speaking, isn’t a presidential decision, it’s a congressional one. They’re the ones with the ‘power of the purse’. Biden has the power to veto those bills rather than signing them into law, but if they’ve got a big enough majority, they can overrule him.
And also? Congressional bills, especially the spending ones, often aren’t doing just one thing. A lot of the bills sending funding to Israel recently are the same bills sending funding to Ukraine. If Biden vetos and it stands, then he’s not just blocking more money that Israel will put into Palestinian genocide, he’s blocking support for Ukrainians trying to keep Russia from conquering them.
(And that’s not even getting into the fact that pulling support for a long term political ally would have ramifications that go far beyond just US/Israeli relations. Foreign policy has a lot of interconnected parts.). People want there to be a single simple solution, but it’s not that easy, no matter how much we wish there was.
this is a very good point. again the problem with painting biden as the criminal is like. it denies that the entire rest of the government is mostly working towards the same stuff. politics has a lot of moving pieces, and as much as people want the president of the united states to be a unilateral dictator, there's actually a lot of shit going on behind the scenes.
you know what actually im going back to referring to "the administration," because yeah, it's just not super helpful to frame this stuff as One Man's doing.
#politics /#again this isnt to say that i think biden's a shining beacon of humanity that can do no wrong#but like i said somtimes you gotta shake hands with the devil to make things better#i have no loyalty to him. but he is the best of the available options for now
