The all might/deku to garp/koby comparison makes me annoyed not be it’s a Bad comparison but bc it’s a good comparison and only highlights how one pair of chars is like. Infinitely more interesting and dynamic than the other pair and it’s Not the one that involves a whole ass main character 😭😭😭 and on the one hand I recognize that I’m biased bc I fundamentally disagree w Horikoshi/BNHA’s worldview regarding policing and more align w Oda/One Piece’s, but I think it’s also just like. Koby and Garp r better written characters too. Which is again infuriating bc they get all of a handful of scenes over the course of nearly twelve hundred episodes meanwhile Deku is literally the mc like that’s crazy.

I have such a hyperspecific meta/gripe that I keep wanting to yap about but I must admit it’s kinda mean-spirited n would be a more effective discussion if I weren’t bitter abt certain things LOL

#it’s like. I get that some of this is personal preference #on their own garp and all might in particular have very different personalities obviously #and being like. a grey character doesn’t inherently make someone better written #but in comparing them wrt the impact they have on the story thematically #Garp is just. more interesting and dynamic I fear #idk. the marines in one piece in general r some of the most interesting characters to me #in fact the ‘good’ ones r some of the Least interesting of the bunch 😭😭😭 apologies to Koby n tash n smoker #but like Kizaru shouting at Akainu at the end of egghead still has me gagged Oda is so good at humanizing them #and garp’s incredible characterization is part of that….. esp the whole marineford vs hachinosu comparison #devastating ofc like fuck that old man but also wowwwwwwww incredible writing #n e way. largely done rambling #not even rlly coherent meta JDNFKNSKF mostly bc im so over bnha i dont feel comfy talking abt it much anymore 😭😭😭
