begging people (authors, publishers, etc.) to realize that there is more to classic retellings than just taking the tropes in a book and lifting up very basic character information from the original plot without also trying to expand upon the original author's intended themes/social commentary

#post: personal #this is very bitchy and i recognize that and probably makes no sense bc my brain is mush at this point #but like .... begging emma retellings to realize that there IS an element of social commentary !#begging people to realize pride and prejudice & r+j aren't JUST enemies to lovers #etc etc etc #also thinking about how some authors are like “i wrote a retelling 🤍 but i haven't read the original source”#this isn't about lies we sing etc btw i haven't read it
