omega/omega suzufield...

after i wrote what i call neck verse for sidgeno (which basically means an omegaverse world where bare necks are considered extremely personal since that's where mating marks go and there's a league wide mandate for all players to wear scruff guards mated or not!)

and thought hm what if suzufield where nick and cole are both omegas but very different in their lifestyles/beliefs/view of themselves as omegas. like obsessed with the idea of "we should be best friends but we're not" + one sided enemies where it's all in one guy's mind (nick's)

but nick is super conservative and wears a guard 24/7, and basically grew up within the traditional hockey culture where omegas are allowed but only unseen (basically act like a beta, don't remind anyone you are not). and holds deeply instilled a/o normative views which guides everything he does! like he believes he can't ever have an alpha or mate with an alpha while he's playing hockey because it basically would make nobody take him seriously?

getting the captaincy makes him think it all paid off, right? like he did everything the right way. but he has unshakable unhappiness and loneliness (that he doesn't know is loneliness)

meanwhile, cole was ecstatic to join the habs because of nick, being a fellow omega and so talented, and got to meet him at the draft! and thinking "omg we're going to be best friends" and wouldn't it be cool to have another omgea have your back?

but then he makes the team and it's not like that at all.... like actually nick seems to hate him? [cole only wears a guard where it's strictly mandated, during games. and openly sleeps around even with alphas, maybe even alphas on the team. and nick is very much glaring at him, glaring at that bare neck....] so imagine his disappointment when nick, who he thought was very cool and very hot, practically bites his head off when they're together off the ice.

so they go through the few seasons they spent together and cole learns more about nick and his whole ~mentality and maybe nick goes on a rant and cole is just appalled esp when he pieces together that nick's a virgin. basically wants to shake nick and get him to stop being so sad and repressed because you don't only have to sleep with alphas or mate them, jesus nick it's 2023. and maybe he should learn that with him you know??? cole like [kim k meme] "im about to start dropping hints that i'm not just into knots!"

but i def think it would be fun for a major conflict coming from nick potentially abusing suppressants because i dont see how uptight nick with all that baggage and all these rules he's set up for himself and holds himself to would change without an external force

the long journey from disliking someone based on putting your own ~shit on them, not realizing nick's actually kind of jealous of cole in a way that gets wrapped up in all this resentment, then realizing okay we can actually be allies and even though i thought he didn't understand me he does, to then developing feelings for him which nick didn't expect at all!!!, and maybe he can have it all...
