157. Ever dyed your hair? yeah ive dyed it reddish, darker brown, fire ombre (look it up it was awesome), blonde, ash blonde, blonde with purple tips and then now i just dyed it back to brown which is its natural colour. i like it blonde but im starting to like it back at its natural state.

i really want to got to the wow summit but idk what to write for my application ive tried for a lot of things but i havent got into any so far:((

Hi there,

We’re so happy to hear that people are interested in the WOW Summit, and the reason we are running applications is because we can only offer 16-20 spots on the day and 50 people signed up for the expression of interest. It’s a really short application, so my advice would be to brainstorm a list (dot points) of what you think you could gain from the event of why you want to go, and then write up your application from that. Below is some advice/tips about writing applications and applying for position in general.

Taking that leap of faith and actually applying for positions is hard so great work on taking that first step. Don’t get too disheartened if you don’t get selected because there are many more out there and I’m sure you’ll get something in the future. Don’t stop trying :)

Writing applications can be very tough and although we can’t provide any specific help here are some tips on writing applications:

BE YOURSELF - I know you’ve probably heard this over and over again BUT I’ve personally read many applications and it is so obvious when people are being fake

Tailor your application to the position/opportunity you’re applying for. You can do this by making a list of all the relevant experience and skills you have then link it to WHY this makes you the ideal candidate

Strike a balance between formality and informality. No-one wants to read a super formal application because that gets boring really quickly but making it too informal can sound like you don’t care

The application is your opportunity to shine. To show them how amazing you truly are so don’t be afraid to talk about yourself! You might feel conceited doing this (I know I do) but don’t worry that’s what the application is for :)

Be concise - don’t ramble on because although sometimes it seems like more is better, trust me, it’s not. It’s important to include all RELEVANT information but being able to do so clearly and concisely makes a great application.

Finally, edit edit edit!! Spelling mistakes, typos are formatting errors the worst and luckily, they’re also easy to fix. Installing an app like Grammarly (yes, those YouTube ads are actually good sometimes) helps a lot.

EXTRA TIP (FORMATTING): Don’t go crazy with fonts or make it too small - people have to be able to read it. Don’t try altering the margins either because this is really obvious and looks terrible. Most importantly, save your document as a pdf because formatting can change from computer to computer. This ensures that your application still looks good and is easy to ready even after you’ve emailed it.

Even if you don’t get this opportunity don’t worry love! There’s a lot more you can do and with every application you do you’ll keep getting better. You’d laugh if you learnt how many applications I’ve done in the past (and haven’t gotten). In fact, in year 9 I could barely get through an interview without stumbling and completely blanking out. It gets better and take every application, interview etc. as a learning step regardless of whether you get the position or not. Also, if you don’t get the position you still still get involved with the activities that a portfolio runs. I know from experience that the SRC and other committees are always trying to find ways the engage with more students and hear their ideas.
