I finished watching a 31h walkthrough of Skyward Sword back in November/December last year, and my first thought was: "This man needs Bon Jovi specifically 'It's My Life' and a leather jacket"
(Then I went and wrote a messy essay about why Sky seems like a deity by the end of the game, and if someone enables me, I'll absolutely edit and post it over on my main, because I have Thoughts On This Man's Journey —)
EDIT: I've been enabled!
Anyways, I wanted to capture some of that "will probably father the royal line of Hyrule" vibe, so I went and read a bit about different kings, and fell down a rabbit hole of Arthurian myths. Then I had a look at Arthur Pendragon in BBC's Merlin (2008–2012), and I think I'm satisfied with the result — it's at least helped me clarify to myself how I want to portray Sky in the Links Winter AU!
(Non-essay thoughts below)
this man can't sow or embroider to save his life;
he's somewhat stocky when compared to the rest;
he’s the best duelist;
keeps a bundle of woodcarving tools in his belt (the leather roll next to the pouch in the illustration);
has a fragment of a timestone set in a ring, and wears it on his left thumb — it's activated by being tapped against the blade of the Master Sword, and reverses time in a sphere of about five meters around him — if he uses his divine magic (more about that further down) he can focus the time reversal at a single object, but it takes a lot out of him and knocks him out for several hours;
adores birds;
plays the harp wonderfully — can't sing (at all);
was deified through his journey (meaning he has deity-like qualities that could equate to those of a demigod) — his eyes have greyed because of this, and now look more silvery than blue;
he has some innate divine magic, but it's only noticeable when his emotions run high (his eyes start glowing, and watching him and Sun have a serious argument is terrifying, because it happens to both of them — the air crackles with divine magic, and even their loftwings evacuate);
still gets visions/dreams, but they're often of things that won't come to pass in his lifetime;
sometimes, when he wakes up from these dreams/visions, he questions whether it was worth it all (he asks it more frequently after meeting the other Heroes);
Demise's Curse;
engaged to Sun (his Zelda);
fiercely loyal to Hylia, and believes that the end justifies the means (otherwise he'd have to reevaluate his entire view of Hylia based on his journey, and he's not ready to do that);
always prioritises others before himself;
kind and relaxed, and has a wonderful laughter that's full of life and joy;
has skipped dad vibes and gone straight to grandpa vibes (he's the one the parents of the group — Warriors and Legend — go to when they need advice or comfort);
this man is an Old Soul;
and he's not afraid of admitting when he doesn't know something
I love all the Links, but if I had to choose a single one as a favourite, I think Sky would be a contender for the spot — not because I write much about him or draw him a lot, but because he seems like a very grounded and calm character, and I'd like to try to emulate that some day
Bonus doodle of Sky's timestone ring (the timestone is the one in the centre, the other two are decorative white stones):
