#but it's not a different market if they're directly competing with each other

From an outside perspective it does just look like fast food restaurants saw that people are willing to spend 20 bucks for a meal at some local place, and came to the conclusion that they just need to barely be cheaper than that for order to continue dominating the market.

hi! i sent an anon ask to beesm'god about the adversarial feeling of advertisements, i think i sent it to her instead of you bc your anon was off? idr, i got brain problems.
anyway i dont have a very deep perspective into the ads business so yeah my envisioning of a two party tug of war was like, based on like, i guess youtube/google just obfuscating any other sides from each other bc they seem like they'd be influential enough to do that.
what are the parties that're standing off ?
so in the ads business, there are always at least three parties involved:
the advertisers, who have a message they want to get out, and money to burn on it
the publishers, who have an existing audience and want to make a buck on that audience without the audience having to pay that buck
the audience, whose attention the publisher is selling to the advertiser (pet peeve: there may be some audiences whose "personal information" gets sold but that's not google's business model; the personal information is a competitive advantage and google wants to keep that all to itself. it's just used to decide whose attention gets sold to which advertiser.)
in the modern era, there is often also a fourth party: the "network" or "exchange", which acts as a middleman and matchmaker between advertisers and publishers.
the audience usually has the least power in this chart. their only real option is to decide how they interact with the publisher: installing or uninstalling adblock,  dropping the pub entirely if they get too mad, etc.
advertisers, meanwhile, have a lot of leverage because they get to choose their battles. this leverage is proportional, not only to their absolute amount of money, but also their relative amount of money compared to other advertisers in the space. the less choice people have about whose money they take, the more influence the remaining people with money can exert. (raid shadow legends was able to earn its infamy, not b/c it was offering fat stacks for sponsored ad reads, but b/c it was selling sponsorships to publishers too small for anyone else to bother with.)
but the publisher (if they're big enough to work with advertisers directly) or the network (if there is one) also has leeway, b/c they get to choose what product (i.e. what sort of attention) they're offering to advertisers. they can compete on "I have an audience with such-and-such demographics", or “I have an audience that comes to me for such-and-such type of content”, etc.
and if a publisher is big enough, they always have the nuclear option of picking up their ball and going home... whether that means “taking their business to a different network/advertiser”, or “changing their business model to not rely on ad funding at all”. once again, if they form a big enough portion of an advertiser’s billboard space or a network’s inventory, this can force them to play ball. this type of leverage applies to a lot of things in tech; as a non-ads example, Twitter will probably never be kicked off the iOS app store for porn, because Apple knows that a Twitter exodus would actually cut into their userbase in a way that other smaller apps might not.
and yes, all of this is to some extent a matter of scale. google can tell small advertisers to accept its terms or go pound sand. but once you get into the same weight class - multinational corps vs other multinational corps - factors that are more structural than sheer “how big is your valuation” start to control.
okay. that all covered, let's come to the case of youtube specifically.
youtube's ads business originally had youtube as a network only. ads only appeared on content when the content's owner - the youtuber who posted it, or the rightsholding company whose music was used in it - has a deal with youtube saying "hey, run ads on my content and give me a cut".
this meant that, as a network, they had to find advertisers willing to run video ads on youtube videos.
now, the vast majority of the video ads market - both in terms of “amount of money they have to throw around” and “amount of attention they want to buy” - is TV commercials. and TV commercials are produced by marketing firms whose concept of how ads work is... very 20th century, let’s say. they exist in a universe where you run ads just to make people recognize the word “coca cola” in a positive way, not to actually get people to buy a coke (because how would you even link the adview to the purchase?) their doctrine is focused on “brand recognition”, and as a result, they care a lot about “brand safety” - a nebulous industry term that basically means “will the place where my ad is shown make me look bad”.
for youtube, this meant that in order to court the TV commerical market and their giant piles of cash, they had to make their network’s rules such that publishers (at this point in the story, YouTube partners) could only run ads on “brand safe” content as seen through the eyes of someone stuck in the 80s. no drugs or tobacco, no “obscenity”, nothing “adult”. this used to be the situation where you heard about demonetization: big YT partners who are suddenly getting $0 for a video because they said something that an automated process thinks TV advertisers might find problematic.
so now that’s what advertisers on YT have been taught to expect about how their ads will be run. certainly any very large company running ads there will now demand it.
but now, in the interests of chasing the impossible dream called “endless growth”, youtube has stepped into the publisher role as well. for non-Partner videos, ads are still being run, but all the money goes to YT itself.
except... they already made the rules, and the rules are that advertisers can rest easy that the inventory they’re buying is “brand safe”. they can’t put “unsafe” videos back in the main inventory without risking losing the TV commercial people as customers. at best they would have to make a separate category for advertisers who’re willing to pay lower prices per view in exchange for running on questionable content... but if that did exist, you’d see much the same situation as ads on Tumblr: low-quality, perplexing outsider art, shilling for brands nobody’s ever heard of, which might be considered a win in itself.
now, could youtube simply ban all “brand unsafe” ads from its platform entirely? yeah, they could. but that would mean banning, uh, major news organizations like NPR because they sometimes run segments about ethnic strife or drug addiction... and it seems like they’re not willing to lose that type of publisher either, if only for fear of another video site coming along and eating their lunch.
so we’re in a weird, half-way space, where “demonetized” videos are maybe deprioritized for being recommended by the “you may also like” algorithms, but in the end they’re also being hosted for free, because YT is caught in limbo between large (corporate-scale) publishers who it can’t afford to be shopping around for a replacement platform, and large (corporate-scale) advertisers who as a bloc control youtube’s purse strings.

Addendum to my previous post, because it was getting too long already and this isn't exactly on topic.
If you're under the age of like 60, and/or not familiar with contemporary film history, you might not be aware that indie films were being shown in movie theatres as recently as the early 1980s.
The Texas Chain-Saw Massacre, Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Evil Dead were all independently produced and then just picked up for distribution—there are other examples, but I have a specific area of expertise so deal with it. And outside of that, there were other independent films that were just being distributed to theatres either directly from the filmmakers or through smaller distribution houses. So how did we get from indie films decupling their budgets at drive-ins and grindhouse theatres to major studio films making a 50% profit? There are a few factors.
Theatre Chains
As eluded to, small independently-owned theatres could literally just show whatever they wanted, and around the 1960s they started doing that. Movies like Blood Feast and Two Thousand Maniacs! completely bypassed the Hays Code by distributing directly to theatres without the traditional distribution channels.
However, as more and more theatres became chains, they do what all chains do: provide an identical experience at all locations. So that meant that theatre owners were no longer choosing what movies to show, and absolutely were not getting movies from outside the major studio distribution network.
The Birth of the "Blockbuster"
There used to be way more variety in movies. As a movie studio, making a bunch of different movies was a good business plan. There were big incredibly-successful movies, but any movie that turned a profit was a profit.
But in the 80s the studios really started moving all their efforts toward trying to make the next "Blockbuster" which meant killing off any projects that may turn a modest profit in favor of funneling everything into a handful of releases.
Look at current studio films, everything is now expected to make obscene profits. A movie that brings in $250 million is considered a bomb because they spent $200 million making it, and that $50 million profit isn't going to sustain a major studio when they only make 4 movies a year.
Home Video
Yes, home video—and now streaming—was very beneficial for independent film. However, it also kinda created an entire separate distribution channel for independent film. If it's 1983 and I'm making an indie film, I can cut costs and raise potential profits substantially by making that movie for the home video market instead of hoping for release in the dwindling number of independently-owned theatres. Essentially, as the studios were working very hard to make it impossible to compete in theatres, indie films just moved somewhere else. And now that the big streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime are becoming mainstream media, we're seeing older and indie films once again being pushed off of those platforms and onto "Lesser" ones like Tubi and Pluto TV.
So in conclusion, that's why when you go to your local 20-screen multiplex they're only showing five movies on four screens each. And why people genuinely believe that the strike will take those five movies away from them. As is so often the case, when we rip off the rubber mask it's once again decades of unethical unchecked capitalism starting in the 1980s.

hot new Silmarillion red string board theory: Caranthir and Finrod were engaged in an increasingly passive-aggressive (or just aggressive-aggressive) trade war for 300-350 years
Proof:
Givens:
A. Finrod brought more jewels to Middle Earth than anyone else
B. Finrod is, I’m pretty sure, the only person ever noted in The Silmarillion to pay for something, or at least to pay well (the labor of the dwarves in the building of Nargothrond)
C. Caranthir grew notably wealthy from trade with the dwarves to the east
D. the geography, and general political alliances and divisions, of Beleriand
Point 1: Why did Finrod bring extra gems with him (Given A), which were presumably nothing but dead weight on the Ice? Sure, you can headcanon him a bit of a peacock, but he’s not an inept at the logistics of survival.
Theory 1a: Finrod brought the gems because he always MEANT to use them as payment for things (Given B). The Noldor knew there were likely people living in Beleriand; Finrod had the foresight to come ready to barter, because...
Theory 1b: Finrod had studied/had an interest in economics and trade.
 Additional support for this:
 - it's a pretty reasonable interest for a prince
 - technically this is fanon not canon, but Finrod is generally regarded as at least an eager amateur anthropologist, for his interactions with the first found Men, and the study of new peoples can easily go hand in hand with the study of their systems of trade and economics
Point 2: The geography of Beleriand (Given D) puts Nargothrond directly in the path of pretty much all trade from the Falas going inland and vice versa, excepting only if the Falathrim go due south or north-northwest to Hithlum. This would've given Finrod the opportunity to tax all shore goods going inland (fish, shells, I like to think the Falathrim are the best glassworkers because they have ALL the sand, and need good lenses for telescopes...) and all inland goods going east to the shore (wood, most ores, probably many varieties of grains best harvested on a large scale). If you accept Theories 1a and 1b, you can easily imagine that...
Theory 2: Taxing this east-west trade is exactly what Finrod did.
Additional support: Nargothrond's secrecy and undergroundness would make it difficult for them to generate many goods on their own. They’d need grains, meats, wood, ores, etc, and they’d need money to buy them.
Point 3: Meanwhile, Caranthir has the exact same enviable tax opportunities with the dwarves of the Ered Luin and all who live further west, and he definitely uses them (Given C). But couldn't they both just grow rich, and amiably build thriving trade routes back and forth across the land? you ask? NO. Because you know what's dead center between Thargelion and Nargothrond? Mother. Fucking. Doriath. (Given D).
Also several hundred years of mounting inter-family political tension and rivalry, culminating in, among other things, the Kinslaying at Alqualondë and the Abandonment on the Ice. Etc. (Given D).
But Doriath, ah, Doriath! Doriath which will let Finrod within its borders and not Caranthir nor any of his people...which we KNOW he's pissed about, because he's specifically noted for getting angry about Angrod being the first ambassador to Thingol and not anyone else. A hissy fit which drove an even sharper wedge between the descendants of Miriel and Idris, at the time.
Conclusion: Spite-fueled cross-continental trade war, competing to sell goods to everyone in Beleriand, except the Iathrim on whom Finrod has a pretty solid lock, further fueling Caranthir’s drive to outsell him with everyone else. Which is probably actually quite good for the economy overall? Except possibly for the results of attempts to cut each other out of markets? (I personally have no idea how economics nor trade works.)
I imagine in some things, they just have different luxury items to offer and they try to convince people that you want this rather than that, and in others, they're directly competing because, for instance, the area directly around Nargothrond is mostly random trees and scrub, but Finrod is at least titular overlord of most of West Beleriand; I'm sure there's good farmland in there somewhere, occupied by Sindar and/or Silvans, and later by Edain. Someone has to be doing enough large-scale farming to supply the armies, and it's going to be easier in the south. Likewise, it's easy to suppose Thargelion was the breadbasket of the eastern front.
Corrolary: Caranthir hates nobody on Arda so much as Galadriel, who personally spent all those 350 years reminding everyone in Doriath that he personally and his goods generally were terrible or at least not worth trading for.

After thinking it over for a bit, I've decided that I might as well do a proper underrated 3DS game rec list. I'm a bit of an ATLUS junkie and that's gonna be pretty disgustingly apparent in this list, but it's not my fault that they released hit after hit and all of them were duly ignored.
Due to tumblr's 10 image limit (and my struggle to keep motivated to do one thing for more than three hours) I'm definitely gonna have to break this up into parts and I'm fairly certain one of these lists is just gonna be MegaTen games lmao but I'd like to let people know about these excellent titles and see if I can't at least get people interested in them so they can get more traction.
So, without further ado:
Some 3DS Games that were criminally slept on (part 1)
Monster Hunter Stories
Tumblr media
God, where do I begin with this game. Well, the basics: It's a JRPG spinoff title of the now widely successful and popular Monster Hunter series featuring a different take on interacting with the varied and intricate monsters populating the world: Riders.
Yep, instead of hunting the beasties, you play as a young rider who's completed their intiation ritual and can now bond with 'Monsties' as they've cutely labelled the usually ferocious monsters of the wilds. The great thing is that you still fight Monsters--tons of them in fact but this isn't a paid review and in my humble opinion, the most impressive thing about this game is the visual style. The landscapes, the armour, the way they redesigned and 3DS-ified the classically hyper realistic and monstrous beasts to not only be absolutely adorable but still capable of being intimidating when the time calls for it, the stellar animation of special moves and combination attacks--it's delicious, nutritious, stupendous, I can and will consume it like it's part of my recommended caloric intake.
It's very akin to Pokemon in the way its basic gameplay premise is set up, however, instead of catching--or even indeed befriending--the Monsties in the game, you rummage through their nests and steal their eggs, later hatching them and getting yourself a brand new lightly kidnapped monster pal!
Other general things about the game:
Pros:
The armour and weapon sets for both male and female characters slap along with the general character customisation options. They're incredibly diverse (though limited in body type) and you can switch around traits and features whenever you want from your house.
The POGS--these porkers are everywhere and they serve as tiny little achievements for exploring every odd and end of the world. Also they have little outfits. They're so cute. 🥺🥺
You can actually ride the Monsties. All of em. Or, at least the ones that you have available to be your buddies. They all have exploration skills and traits that not only make exploring much more interesting but encourage you to swap out your active Monstie and play around with your options a bit.
Y'all breeding Monsties is complicated and I live for just how intense and ridiculous you can get with optimal builds for these things.
The story is really competently put together! The characters, character designs and even the internal conflict with your starting trio of characters is really compelling along with the mystery of the blight that's infecting Monsters across the world. It's not anything worth awards but it's compelling and it makes you care about the characters if that's what you're in the market for.
Amazing sound design, expansive world, everything about the presentation of this game oozes that Monster Hunter charm even if the art is cutesier than usual. You'll never get bored of its stellar visual presentation!
Available for around twenty quid on the Google Play store, so if you want, you could actually get the full game on your smartphone or tablet. Note though that it would be a battery nuker.
Cons:
If you're on a regular 3DS, frame rate drops are a given. This game kinda pushes the visual capabilities of the 3DS to its absolute limit--a lot like Okamiden did back on the DS.
One save file :( It's pretty much for the same reason as above but still.
If you're playing as the girl, you can't get male armour and vice versa. Since there's only one save file, you'll never be able to have all of the armour sets in a single playthrough and that's criminal because both of the sets for the genders are absolutely breath-taking, thank you.
I 👏can't 👏make👏my👏 own 👏Palico👏
Multi-player for this game is pretty dead seeing as it's almost five years old by now and never got much press or traction. Usually this wouldn't be an issue - this game is 99% singleplayer and you don't really need to fuss about with multi-player to have fun, but if you want to collect all the Monsties, you'll need it since the only way to get Glavenus is through pvp achievements. :/
Final thoughts: Play it if you find yourself getting tired or disappointed with 3DS Pokemon games but still want something that feels as fantastical as Pokemon. It outshines the 3DS Pokemon games at every turn and I will never be over just how thoughtfully put together and fully realised these games are. Of course, if you've ever played Monster Hunter, then you know just how intensive these games are with the lore, biology, cultures and world of their Monsters but seeing that translated into JRPG format was just very sobering and it's a game that, to this day, continues to awe me with just how much love and attention went into it.
Last note: If you're still unsure about it, there's a demo available on the e-shop of the 3DS that allows you to play through the entire initial area of the game. Your data does carry through to the full release and to give you an idea of how much I've been able to squeeze out of it - my playtime for that demo is currently sitting at 22 hours. Make sure to get a hold of that Cyan-Kut-Ku!
Tumblr media
7th Dragon III Code: VFD
Tumblr media
The title may sound intimidating but the premise is not! A mysterious disease called Dragon Sickness spread by the Dragonsbane flowers that have cropped up all around the world. You and your team are recruited by the Nodens game company after you display extraordinary prowess in their hit virtual reality game 7th Encount. As you go through the adventure, you are tasked with finding out the truth behind the Dragon Sickness and asked to stop both it and the Dragons that are destroying the world.
This game is fun. It's another turn-based JRPG however, in this game you create all of your characters yourself from the myriad of classes available to you from the jump. Different classes of course have very different specialisations - Samurai focus on high powered cutting damage with their swords, Duelists are summoners who can influence the element of the battlefield as well as summon monsters from each element, Agents can hack into your enemies and inflict a barrage of nasty ailments, just to name a few - and you are given three teams of three characters each to experiment with different team comps and find the balance that works for you. There's also a wide variety of Dragons to hunt and kill in the game, which directly affects how infected your world is with the Dragon Sickness causing Dragonsbane. Along the way you will also come into contact with many interesting characters, concepts and confrontations that will make the task of saving the world all the more imperative.
Pros
1. The character creator and differing classes give way for tons of experimenting and playing around with your own unique approach to combat and carrying out your missions. Granted, 'character creation' is generous, it's little more than palatte swaps but the classes are really where VFD shines. Eight main classes may not sound like a lot, but the expaniveness of the character skills, their synergy with their fellow classes and the uniqueness of some of the classes in and of itself allows for so much flexibility and creativity in approaches to even tougher bosses. It also encourages the switching about of your party members to really finagle with the options available to you.
2. God this game is pretty. The locations, the character art, the creature design - all of it is gorgeous and this game capitalises on every bit of the 3DS's presentation limitations as it can.
3. You can romance anything and everyone - yes, you can even be gay/lesbian/poly in this game. In fact, one of the main characters - Julietta - is gnc and he's a constant source of joy as well one of my personal favourite characters, right behind Yuma.
4. Exploration is very very forgiving as the game has healing spots and teleport nodes all over the world to allow for quick, seamless travel between quest points without feeling like anything is too much of a hassle. There are also special enemies that allow for quick grinding as well as quick farming of money. In general, the game does a really good job of making sure that the grind is never unbearable or inconsiderate of your time.
Cons:
1. This is the fourth game in a series the West has never seen any other title for, and from the looks of it, will probably never see any other titles for. Because of that, there are some elements that may seem confusing or revelations in the plot that may seem to come out of nowhere.
2. While the visuals are great, the OST of this one is pretty short making for a lot of reused soundtracks that can get really annoying if you're like me and need your audio to be interesting or consistent so it doesn't distract you too much.
3. This one isn't really a con but it is divisive: This game gets pretty difficult at times. A few of the main dragon enemies including and especially the final boss can give you a serious run for your money in the annoy-o-meter in terms of the kind of absolute JRPG fuckery they can pull out of their magic bag of bullshit movesets and while I generally enjoy that kind of thing, I know it's not for everyone. Most regular combat shouldn't be too tricky once you have a team comp that works well together but you also need to pay attention since the same team that carries you to victory one time might be worth beans against another dragon.
Final thoughts: This is... a really good game. Interesting story, really interesting characters, pretty world and a battle system that really makes you sit down and think. There's also a demo for this available in the e-shop and while your data doesn't carry over - you do receive multiple perks for carrying over your demo data including some exclusive items that, while not game breaking, do help a ton in the early stages of the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn't a final list by any stretch of the word; I only have the energy to do these two right now, but the next games up for coverage are Ever Oasis and Stella Glow! If you're interested in my full plan of games I want to cover here then my current lineup includes: Theatrhythm: Curtain Call, Project Mirai: Deluxe, Culdecept Revolt, Alliance Alive, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, Etrian Odyssey V, Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse.
Finally, if anyone has played any of the games I mention, cover or plan to cover PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME, I AM SO LONELY IN MY FORTRESS OF SAND. On a serious note, I'd love to hear what other people who've played these games think!
Thanks for reading,
-Ginger
PS: @feralpeacock Because a million years ago, on my first underrated games post, you asked that I remember you. :D

3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 for the writer asks!
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)
I don't even know if it fits anywhere in my current WIPs, but I really want to write the scene where:
-it's been established at the start the story that there's some circular stone ruins in a park on a hill overlooking the center of town. They're assumed to be historically significant but no one knows exactly in what way and they're too much bother to excavate or spend actual taxpayer money on an archaeological survey so ppl just leave them alone.
-at the two-thirds mark of the story, character A is exhausted and out of resources and on the run out in some foothills near to a foreign major city. they hide in an abandoned barn or something. they take the opportunity to open up to character B, which allows character B to trust them fully. char B says "okay, we may have a way out of here" and they grab character A and they steal a vehicle, go straight into the major city (making as much noise as possible and being chased by two different bunch of cops now) and they jump straight into a huge energised portal while at the same time char B breaks open a locket they've been carrying this whole time
-the characters are thrown into a vortex and re-emerge from the stone ruins mentioned earlier. char B is like "wow that messed up my hair more than I thought it would. cool" while char A re-adjusts their jacket and starts marching toward the conclusion of the story, completely re-energised
6. What character do you have the most fun writing?
Both player characters (Kassandra, Emily Kaldwin) and the regular characters who have to interact with them on a regular basis.
Emily is the person who spends an hour deciding what she wants at a market stall, immediately shushing any attempts to discuss it because she can't concentrate with people talking sales at her, and then buys a single sleep dart and leaves. Stripes the black market shopkeeper and Alexi are both people who have to deal with that in real time.
Kassandra is both experienced and competent, and also the person who has stubbed their toe, forgot to charge their phone and still turned up to work just on time only to find out their delivery company isn't partnered with subway anymore.
Kassandra would swear and throw her phone at a wall. Her enhanced strength would make the phone go into the wall a bit, but she'd still have to pay like everyone else for a new screen protector and phone case.
9. Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other?
I'm more of a longfic writer and plotter. I have detailed plans for several WIPs and haven't gotten around to doing the actual writing.
I'm trying to work on my shorter-stuff writing abilities. My current series Coffee and Cake is like that - the chapters are in general shorter and I'm only planning a little bit in advance of each chapter.
I kind of wish I was more spontaneous. One of the better-received chapters for my older series I Dreamed of An Eagle was written in one go directly inspired by what happened to me in AC Odyssey gameplay just the day before. I edited it once and posted it. It shows I am capable of writing action scenes, just only when I have one hand over my eyes and looking out of the corner of my eye with the other hand on the keyboard typing with one finger. (It's just like my playing PVP in Destiny 2. I do well only accidentally and unintentionally. I just don't have the spontaneous/PVP brain.)
12. Do you want your writing to be famous?
Of course! But only my longer, actually good works. Only my longer mass effect stuff and my dh novel. I want to be taken seriously, y'know.
15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?
Titles!
I'm not a naturally concise writer, so, I struggle to think of really good titles. (I should keep a list of good titles to be used, in reserve...)
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.
Quite a lot of my stories have alternate versions; but I don't keep track of them because because I have so many WIPs on the go to satisfy my craving of wanting to write whatever pops into my head, as opposed to having a schedule or plan.
One of these was a a possible sequel to DH2 set partially in Pandyssia after the events of the second game, in a port town newly constructed on the continent. There would be a lot of content based on the colonialism and religious zealotry associated with such a setting; with a High Overseer or Oracular Order Sister being the player character/protagonist. A DLC for this hypothetical game would have you play as a DH1-original Brigmore Witch who gets dumped into the story with her own set of latent abilities. I've used some of the ideas for that in my DH novel.
21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?)
Most of my stuff would work in short comics. I spent too long doing "justdishonoredthings" memes for my sideblogs that are at most 3 panels long so I struggle to do content that's longer than that, that's really punchy, fun, or relatable.
My longer episodic works like Modern!AU Alexi/Emily and my Dishonored novel would happily go in a TV series. My one-shot mass effect fic with secondary characters would probably fit well in an hour-long film.
thank you!!

While in this state, the liver generates a particular molecule called a ketone. Ketones are helpful in causing an individual lose weight, by telling your factories to burn fat ASAP. It's a trustworthy method in reducing weight. But, it carries a number of risks that, if you'll excuse the pun, outweigh the potential benefits.
Earth's Connection Keto Ingredients work somewhat differently, while utilizing the same underlying philosophy. Rather than pushing your body into the ketosis state, you can consume them directly through these capsules! This method actually works faster than a true Ketogenic Diet, nevertheless there is no waiting period in which all of the your carbs leave your body. The ketones contained within these pills do their thing right now. They signal your factories to burn fat, even if you have carbs available! You might not know this, but carbs are many of the reason it's hard to lose fat. Your factories actually prefer them over fat alternative such as fruit what to burn for energy. That means, if acquired enough of them, your fat remains untouched. You do not have to worry about this here, though, because the ketones' signal overrides your factories' default tendency.

I cant believe larries are still here? But then I read an interesting article about a Twihard convention where they pointed out that alot of it wasnt so much about the crappy literature but the chance for women and girls to bond over interests ignored by men. Not that I think larrie is some wholesome feminist paradise (not at all) but like with twilight fiction they get to bond in a space where women are directly pitted in competition with each other (see the het harries). They also get to Inner frustrations at how women are so often competing with each other by making villains of those are presented to them as the 'winners' they should either emulate or compete against - the gfs. Larrie is very unhealthy fandom imo but I think women are so desparate for that kind of bonding, feminism (esp that which doesnt try in anyway to twist itself to appeal to men, but seeks to give women spaces for themselves where they are not competing for male validation) that they seek it out in strange places and cling onto it for dear life. I'd say larrie is in a similar phase to when Kristen had been caught with that married dude. Alot left but the diehards still clung on. Louis promo of his new thisistherealmeneleanor album, plus mentions of his two walking talking son will be, oh so ironically, like Kristen going round eith an obv gf. Game over. And anon is right it ll be game over for H too. Expect lots more tracksuited figures at his concerts! 1D disrupted the normal sense of boybands (as they were in the 90s say) by heavily marketing the gfs to the fandom and larries were right to point out the obv ways this was done (even I dont agree with their motives) also sm bragging meant groupies were much more in the avg fans face. I think larrie developed into what it was as a way of counteracting all that. With larrie it really didnt matter what you looked like its power dynamics arent necessarily any healthier but they're different.

16 Marketing Experts Share the Metrics They're Emphasizing in 2018
Which marketing metrics should your business monitor for higher ROI? Top marketing experts share all in this roundup post.
We’re living in a data-driven world, and numbers are everything. Your results won’t matter if you can’t prove them.
And you won’t be able to grow your business if you aren’t consistently tracking and working on the most important indicators.
However, a common mistake online business owners and even plenty of digital marketers make is spending too much time and energy on metrics that don’t bring results.
We like to call these vanity metrics.
You might be familiar with some of them and maybe have even fallen into that trap yourself.
Things such as YouTube views, Facebook likes, and Instagram follower counts are all metrics that brands care about these days.
What’s more, they obsess over it and invest more resources and effort into growing these, while leaving the rest behind.
Unfortunately, these can boost your ego and make your competitors jealous, but they won’t help your audience more, won’t take your business to the next level, and won’t increase conversions.
What companies should really be concentrating on are metrics such as user engagement, number of comments and shares on social media, time on page, number of opt-ins, etc.
These are the KPIs that count, that bring value, growth, and exposure.
But you don’t need to take our word for it.
Because we all need to revisit our metrics periodically and align them with our new goals and strategies, as well as current trends and tools, we gathered and asked experts in the field of Digital Marketing to share their best tips.
In this roundup post, you’ll learn about the top marketing metrics experts are using and monitoring consistently that have the best ROI, and which you can use as indicators for your business in 2018.

Chief Marketing Officer, Orbit Media Studios
Click-through rate is going to be my obsession in 2018.
I'm making it my focus because it is the one metric common to all content marketing channels: search, social, and email.
It's also the one number that unites all marketers.
Without it, you'll fail at anything you do.
When it comes to click-through rates, the headline is the biggest factor.
Headlines take different forms in different places.
In search, it's the title tag.
In email, it's the subject line.
In social media, it's the post itself.
In the ongoing war for attention, we need to be more focused than ever on these aspects in any piece of content.
It's a key part of every past and future success and failure.
As a reminder of the importance of a headline, remember this: no one ever shares an article, they only share the headline.
All the advice we've read over the years is good. But in the future, we should use these tactics in combination, instead of using and relying on just one.
Add numbers.
Ask a question.
Use unexpected words.
Trigger emotion or curiosity.
Indicate a strong, specific benefit.
Also, tailor the headline for the purpose and the channel.
The title (search) doesn't have to be the same as the headline (social) or the subject line (email).
Remember that headlines that answer questions do well in search.
Headlines that trigger emotion do well in social and email.
Adapt your headlines for their placement and intended purpose!

Search visibility is our primary SEO reporting KPI moving into 2018.
Rather than focussing on the fluctuation of individually tracked keywords in a given location, the key to achieving better organic search results for our clients is in cumulatively moving the dial across a tiered and prioritized set of keywords, which we know will impact conversion.
Of course, visibility is borne of non-branded rank-tracking projects and will be shaped and defined by converting organic traffic metrics.
Our SEO tool metrics will go hand-in-hand with Google Analytics data for reporting purposes.
Competitive search visibility indexes across our tracked keyword sets in Moz, SEMRush, and Sistrix will be the dial for campaign success measurement.
We expect to see the role of voice search rise in prominence in the year ahead, resulting in a need to track some longer-tail queries and devise a course of action for optimising them.
Presently, that involves devising featured snippet strategies for our clients, based on the assumption that they'll remain the primary data source for voice assistants and mobiles to read aloud from the SERPs.
That may well change in 2018 as Google and other search engines up their game around voice search insights—perhaps we'll see a dedicated section in Search Console for them.
We'll be on hand to react and adapt to any changes in this regard.
Search visibility versus your main competitors is a vital metric to prioritize because it's really the only level playing field we have left to keep track of!
For example, should Google decide to move the goalposts at any time and say, introduce a 6th ad atop the SERPs or take over the entire first page, then there's not much that we, as SEOs can do about that!
The beauty of tracking visibility versus competitors as a reliable benchmark of success is that if that does indeed happen, then it affects the competition too and not just your site, making it a truly beneficial metric to track and measure as your website evolves within the ever-changing competitive SERP landscape.
My advice to any aspiring marketers looking to learn more about the search visibility metric is to check out what the various SEO tool providers have to say about it and consider adding it to your reporting arsenal sooner rather than later!

Content Strategist, Zaius
This year, I'm really focused on increasing referral traffic to our website.
It's a simple metric, but will help us measure a huge shift in our marketing strategy.
I have aggressive goals around guest blogging, PR, partner marketing, and influencer marketing.
All of these programs are focused on expanding awareness of the Zaius brand and reaching new and relevant audiences with our content.
All of these programs that drive referral traffic are not easy to execute.
Each takes time, effort, and a lot of writing to pull off.
But if done well, they can greatly impact the traffic reaching your site and get in front of a lot of new people who could become customers in the future.
Write up an actionable plan for everything, including a target number of guest blog posts, a target audience for influencers, and a focused strategy for partner marketing. Then, stick to it!

This year, I'm paying extra attention to metrics relating to my website's product feature description pages.
—that is, what percentage of new users viewed these pages before converting, which pages draw the most views and longest sessions, and what keywords referred search users to these pages and resulted in them converting.
As part of our recent website relaunch, we published several product feature pages that didn't exist in our earlier design.
We hypothesized that publishing these pages would be the key to attracting high-intent visits.
Tracking the impact of this strategy and optimizing its execution over the next few months is important to us.
The strategy ought to be a big success, on a theoretical level.
We just need to ensure these pages are as impressive as they can be, so they can become top-performing touchpoints in our customers' journeys.
I recommend that marketers turn their product feature description pages into valuable resources to provide readers with useful information—even if these readers never use your product.
If the information is helpful and is presented in a way that has broad appeal, it will naturally draw social shares and backlinks.
Over time, more people will discover your products thanks to this content and will eventually convert after having landed on your site.

Guillaume Decugis
Co-Founder & CEO, Scoop.it
This year, our focus is on two things. Firstly, web share of voice, which is the number of times our brand is mentioned in web content vs. our competitors' brands.
And secondly, content performance vs. competitors, which involves shares over social networks that our content generates in comparison to our competitors.
Several dynamics make us want to focus on this.
We've historically been very focused on what happened with our own website and content as this is more directly within our control.
But as we built relationships with more and more influencers, we also saw a need to measure more broadly the impact of our influencer marketing—hence the need to measure share of voice on web content.
Content marketing is maturing and is becoming more competitive; it's content shock, as Mark Schaefer would say. As more and more marketers embrace this strategy, more content competes for limited attention. We want our content to stay relevant and perform in the top tier, hence the need to create benchmarks against competitors or industry references.
We didn't have a way to really measure these metrics, but now we do. We've just launched a content intelligence platform, Hawkeye, that provides these metrics among other things.
To optimize your marketing strategies, research content before creating it.
Following your inspiration is good, but it's not enough.
To make your content stand out, research your topic, benchmark competitive content, and identify influencers.
This will help you come out with the best possible piece.
If your time researching a new piece of content is less than half the time you spend creating it, you're doing it wrong.
If influencer marketing is or will be an important part of your strategy, start building relationships as early as possible.
Learn to give before you get. Start curating and sharing the content of others without asking anything in return.
You'll learn what their content is about, which will enable you to better understand how to approach them.
You'll also get in their radar, and they'll be much more receptive when you ask them to share your content.

Digital Marketing Manager, Ning
Content monetization and community engagement are my focus in the year ahead.
Not only is content monetization one of the top trends in 2018, the internet is flooded with low-quality content.
Shifting the paradigm to the creation of deeply researched articles increases the ability to monetize your website or blog and guarantees that your content will stand out.
For sure you can create ebook and sell it on Amazon, but don't you agree that buying an ebook is not an impulse purchase?
Purchasing decisions can be difficult. High-quality content influences purchases.
With that in mind, article monetization is like shelling peas.
To effectively implement this strategy, build a community—your followers are the engine of your blog.
The more your followers like what you are writing, the higher profits will be.
So don't stay mediocre; take a helicopter view of what you have written and ask yourself sincerely, "If I stumbled upon this article, would I skip it or take every bite of it?"
Launch a paid access feature on your blog to monetize posts or articles.
NING could be a good fit for this. And don't forget to add a donate button.
If you are pursuing non-profit goals, it's a must. This button can be useful in many other cases too.
There are always grateful readers who will be happy to express their appreciation.

Conversion Optimization and Growth Manager, BigCommerce
In 2018, we see a lot of opportunity in "soft-offer" lead capture.
We frequently see prospects requesting a product demo or starting a free trial for lack of a better choice, but they aren't really ready to experiment with the product.
By prompting those users with a soft offer—such as a content download, webinar invitation, or newsletter subscription—we give ourselves a better chance to nurture the lead to a point where they are more qualified and educated to take action within the product.
As marketers, it's important that we grow trial and demo numbers, but the most significant metric is what percentage converts to paid customers.
We've seen good success with softer offers in 2017 with respect to ultimate paid conversion, so we'll continue to invest in providing prospects for these 'micro' conversion opportunities in 2018.
It’s important that marketers know how to test and track. With the volume of content we are constantly producing, we luckily have a lot of options in terms of what we promote at any given time, and to which audience.
Understanding what works—and inevitably, what doesn't—comes down to identifying which cohorts you are targeting, testing different content, and content presentation (e.g., CTA, placement on the page, messaging, thank you page execution, etc.), and then relaying those insights back into similar campaigns or initiatives.
Also, marketers shouldn't be afraid to track at a very granular level. Do the changes you're making affect bounce rate, time on page, pages/session, and so on?
Are prospects engaging with your CTAs, but not ultimately converting (and if so, could it be the form)?
How does your change affect scroll depth? For every test, you should take time to define the right KPIs so you can answer questions about their effectiveness.

How many people opt in and how many shares will be my focus in 2018.
It's not about how many come to the website and visit.
It's about how many engage and feel compelled to share.
Audience engagement tells me that the content is relevant and valuable.
It also says we have a product and solution the audience is seeking.
The focus on results and conversions are integral to this change, rather than just traffic volume.
It's critical to create the best content possible because that will garner shares and get people to sign up for your newsfeed, blog, and email information.
That means planning out all that you want to share with your audience and also getting them to tell you what they are specifically looking for, so you can craft content around those needs and interests.

Founder of Digital Olympus, Digital Olympus
I want to learn more about how users interact with content.
I want to work with Google Tag Manager triggers to see whether it's possible to improve the bounce rate by changing the site's structure, by adding interactive content and videos, and by improving navigation and design.
Nowadays, user behavior is a very influential metric that contributes to a site's Google ranking.
I believe it is crucial to make the most of what you have.
This is especially true when talking about pages that have the potential to rank well with Google but have statistics that show users don't want to stay on them for very long before proceeding to other pages.
Using Google Tag Manager more often can achieve this.
Similar tools to try include Hotjar, which allows you to see how exactly users are interacting with a website.

Editor in Chief, Shopify Plus
My priorities for 2018 are first, time on page, and second, in-PDF link clicks.
Far from a vanity metric, time on page can tell you not only how engaging your content is, but also what posts resonate the most with your audience.
Instead of waiting for SEO to kick in, time on page can quickly indicate what articles to promote and prioritize for lead generation.
By creating UTMs within gated assets—like PDFs—you get a secret window into a lead's readiness to buy and what topics to lean on, bring up in sales calls, and create additional content around.
To achieve this, I recommend that marketers create a custom Google Analytics dashboard just for time on page (and force yourself to ignore traffic).
For the in-PDF links, either use a UTM builder or—even better—link those links to your CRM (like Hubspot or Salesforce).

The factors I am going to focus on in 2018 are user experience and time spent on the site
The factors I am going to focus on in 2018 are user experience and time spent on the site because most people are struggling to gain organic traffic by ranking for different terms.
I am going to analyze these metrics by using the inbuilt features in Google Analytics and some paid Heatmap tools for A-B testing.
The most important thing after a user has landed on our website is to keep them there.
Of course, we should provide relevant information, products, or services they are interested in.
Once we have the user on our site, we have to analyze the overall user's experience to conclude why he or she has left the page or has continued browsing.
We should treat every single visit to our site(s) as a unique opportunity.
If we can attract the user's attention to visit our site, we should be prepared to keep them there by providing something exclusive.
Furthermore, give them something even better than what they searched for. That way we will get a faithful reader or a loyal client.
To implement this strategy, follow these steps.
Install a heatmap on your website. This will help you visualize the user's experience.
Keep track of your bounce rate's percentage. Combined with the heatmap, this will indicate why users stay or leave.
Analyze the collected data from your heatmap tool.
Make some minor changes to your site's structure, navigation, or design for A-B testing. Track down the result after every change you make.
Rinse and repeat.

In 2018, I would like to focus more effort on seeing what websites, blogs, and opportunities actually provide the most ROI based on the time and effort it takes to acquire such postings.
I've always been a big believer in content creation and guest blogging on other sites.
In 2018, I would like to focus more effort on seeing what websites, blogs, and opportunities actually provide the most ROI based on the time and effort it takes to acquire such postings.
Knowing which websites or blogs actually provide the most views, clicks, and engagement would be a huge benefactor, as it would allow me to know where to spend my time and effort wisely.
Contributing quality content definitely takes up a lot of time and resources, so eliminating any lower quality sites from the mix would definitely improve ROI across the board.
Today’s marketers need to focus on quality over quantity.
No matter what you are working on (content creation or SEO), always go for the higher quality method and try not to cut corners.
This will not only help in the long run, but it will also keep you on good terms with Google.

In the coming year, we're going to be emphasizing first-click attribution for ourselves and across all of our clients.
First-click attribution helps us understand how a prospect originally found out about us.
It's unlikely that a prospect converts on your site in the same session, and because most companies only measure last-click attribution, they don't have clear visibility into what channels are influencing a sale.
Most prospects don't convert the first time they've heard about your company.
Typically, they'll find out about you from a Facebook ad, a blog article, SEO, or some other channel.
Then, they'll do some research on your site to figure out what you're about and they may interact with you multiple times before ever converting.
If you measure last click attribution only, you're unlikely to see the point of origination where your prospect found out about you.
Thus, when you're making the argument to your executive team about where to focus budgets, you likely don't have the data necessary to argue that you should focus on certain channels.
First-click attribution gives you a more holistic picture of what's working in marketing.
Dig into Google Analytics’s new attribution feature to get started with first-click attribution.
You need to have your goals properly set up in Google, but if you do, check the first interaction analysis report in Google to see how first-clicks are influencing your conversions.

GAP analysis is one factor marketers and business owners should consider in the year ahead.
With the substantial amount of data available within the Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tool dashboard, one can easily evaluate the current traffic the website drives against the potential traffic the website could attract from search engines.
For SEO campaigns shifting the focus to content-driven strategy, GAP analysis is a must as it is the most effective analysis segment to ensure campaigns give the expected result.
Additionally, from GWT you can create a report that shows queries and landing page combinations that receive a high number of impressions but have a low CTR.
You can also pull in each page’s current title tag, meta description, and character counts, so you can quickly analyze which search snippets can be improved to boost your CTR.
Heat map analysis helps you spy on your visitors and make arrangements within your website or page to change your visitors into customers.
In a nutshell, you can use this for various purposes. A couple of my favorite elements are:
Improving internal links
Optimizing call to action and image placements
When heat maps are evaluated properly, this will be a pathway to increased conversions.
When it comes to GAP analysis, keyword ranking alone does not determine SEO success.
Even when a page ranks well for a website, the CTR determines the success of the efforts that helped bring the page to the top.
Users typically select a site in less than five seconds and click the first promising link they see.
Improving CTR using GAP analysis should be an ideal metric for success.
Additionally, when one spends a substantial amount of time and money in generating quality content, the GAP analysis is a must to reap the full benefits.
Heat map analysis gives us a hard reality check within our website.
Users scan the website before they make quick decisions.
If they're forced to scroll down pages full of content to find what they're looking for, they usually choose to go back to Google and look for information elsewhere.
Do not hesitate to spy on competitors to fix your GAP in content elements.
Tools like SEMRush have features like "Content GAP Analysis,” which is easy to use and collects sufficient data to optimize your content.
In heat map analysis, use short sentences. Pay attention to image placements and quick loading images.
Avoid lengthy scrolls. And remember to KISS—Keep It Short and Sweet.

Facebook remarketing is something we have been playing around with for a while now, but also something we can get much better at.
We will be tracking the many different ways to use Facebook remarketing, and also the individual post and sales pages being used.
We will be creating unique landing pages for these campaigns as well.
Remarketing is great for getting ads in front of visitors who may have left and didn't take action the first time around, but if you aren't split testing different options, who's to say visitors aren't going to just leave again anyway?
Look at as many different advertising options as you can for remarketing to your audience and getting them to come back to your site again.
Facebook Ads is a great option, but there are many other platforms and third party advertising solutions as well.

In 2018, my focus will be on revenue from Apple/iOS 11 and micro-conversions.
Intelligent Tracking Prevention is one of the major recent changes to the industry.
Due to its effects, the gathering of data regarding consumer web use is highly time sensitive.
Likewise, improvements to attribution tracking have started to confirm what we already know: a lot of things go into a purchase before it's made.
Now we can show this decision-making process easier through Google Analytics.
My advice to other marketers who find themselves in a similar situation is to tie Google Analytics to Adwords or add third party code to ensure you’ve covered your bases – and don’t forget to update your attribution in your Analytics tool beyond just last click attribution.

Conclusion
These big names in the marketing industry are constantly revisiting their goals, updating their approach, giving new tools a try, and staying up to date with the latest trends.
As a result, they are now focusing on metrics such as brand mentions instead of just likes or follows.
It’s more important to know how many people share and comment on your content and updates than to just wait for new visitors to come to your website, thinking you’re doing it right.
Engagement shows that your content and products are relevant and provide value and that this is what you need to do more of to improve or even double your results.
In 2018, make sure you track the interaction between a prospect and all your platforms and online presence.
Hearing about you somewhere else, going to your website, and clicking a link isn’t enough anymore.
The relationship is built after a few more actions.
You only have someone’s trust and attention when they sign up for your newsletter, connect with you personally, download a file to learn more about your offer, and engage with your content instead of just skimming an article or liking a video.
With the beginning of the new year, take the initiative to rethink your marketing metrics and make sure they are relevant.
It’s okay to stop tracking many things and replace these indicators with new ones.
Innovation is a constant process.
After all, we’re here to serve people online, and that includes continuously adapting to user behavior and technology trends.
