i dont want to sound gatekeepy but big blogs with massive followings, who are run by people that don’t know anything about a subject, should not be treated as experts bc they looked something up on wikipedia to make a post.

#popularity does not make someone less likely to make mistakes or lose nuance when learning about something for the first time #there are plenty of experts in tumblr who actually know what they’re talking about #either because it’s their profession or they’ve engaged with it as a hobby for long periods of time #this is specifically about a very large blog making a post about wildlife genetics and taxonomy that’s pissing me off #but it’s a reblog chain of like ten massive reblogs and im too lazy to correct every detail #basically just. if something has a ton of reblogs with no fact checking from someone who learned abt this concept half an hour ago from #wikipedia with no further investigation or verification #don’t assume any of that information is inherently correct #sterling speaks
