Dinner with Aunt Denise & Uncle Jeff A Tale of Science Fair Photography
Ever since my parents died my aunt and uncle have done their best to fill some of the hole left in my heart. It almost feels like they adopted me in a way. They check on me. They help me clean. They helped me sort through all of my parents' belongings. And from time to time they invite me over for dinner when I'm feeling up to it.
Last week I got a new invitation. I had been feeling pretty lonely as of late so I graciously accepted. Before I left I saw my camera sitting on the table and realized I had this fancy new lens which is especially suited for taking pictures of people.
I thought to myself...
"This lens has only taken pictures of bridges at sunset."

Which is cool and everything, but I don't really want my only photos to be of bridges at sunset. I like taking pictures of other things.
I didn't have any lighting equipment handy—just a single external flash. And without a solid plan for how I was going to use it, I quickly packed said flash and headed westward. As I saw the sun lowering in the sky above the highway my big photography brain had an idea...
"I should take pictures of *people* at sunset."
I needed a reflector of some kind to bounce my flash against. I thought poster board would probably suffice so I stopped at Walmart and headed to the arts and crafts area. I found these tri-fold poster board thingies that grade school kids use to display their science fair experiments.

I got 2 for $7!
What a deal!
After I arrived I asked if my aunt & uncle minded having their photo taken. My aunt said she was fine with it but warned me that no one had ever been able to take a decent photo of her.
I'm typically not one to be braggadocious, but I replied...
"Well, that's because you've never had your photo taken by ME."
I'm not sure I should have been so cocky considering my lighting equipment is typically used to display the life cycle of earthworms, baking soda volcanos, and... potato batteries—which was the delightful and totally real project I just found on Google.

Science Fair Entry from Billy, Age 10
After a delicious feast of bratwurst, salad, and non-electrified potatoes, I convinced my aunt and uncle to sit for a sunset photoshoot. They even helped me set up my science fair project.

Science Fair Entry from Froggie, Age 42
I decided to do a quick test indoors to make sure my plan would work. Jeff volunteered for my first experiment.
Without my contraption...

With my contraption...

I think my experiment was quite promising. But would my idea hold up outside during the sunset with constantly dimming conditions?
We moved everything to the backyard. The tri-fold poster board was a bit ornery regarding its uprightness and needed to be tamed. My Uncle Jeff used a large rock, some pillows, and a step ladder to keep the makeshift reflectors in place.
I started taking test photos without the flash to figure out the background exposure.

Those pesky power lines were going to need to be zapped later in Photoshop, but I was really digging the scenery.
I dialed everything in, started taking photos, and even on the little rear camera screen I felt like they were turning out well. With the sun setting the sky looked like it was on fire. But then the batteries died in my flash and I was starting to lose that fiery sky as darkness began to creep into view.
Unfortunately, all of the potatoes were in our bellies so my aunt scrambled to find regular batteries in the house.
This photoshoot had become a complete team effort with everyone doing their part to make it a success.
Surprisingly it was my Uncle Jeff was giving me some bona fide model poses. He just naturally has some sort of... resting model face. Very masculine and authentic. And my Aunt Denise is just pure sunshine manifested as a person. So I had no problems getting nice expressions from her.
So... would you like to see the pictures?
Will I get a blue ribbon on my science fair project?
Am I building up the suspense too much?
Okay, here we go...

I suppose the only validation I really need is from the person who has never had a decent photo taken of them.
Let's see the verdict.
All of those hours and hours of photography training helped me learn the problem solving skills I needed to pull off a photoshoot with seven dollars in supplies.
Take a small light source, bounce it off something larger, and you get a big light source.
And big light sources make people look snazzy in photographs.
Easy!

Are you kidding me?
I lost to the potato kid?
What kind of rigged nonsense...

Pairing: Jiyong x Reader (y/n)
Summary: You get the opportunity to be the lead photographer for G-Dragon’s next editorial shoot. What you thought would be a typical day at your job, blossoms into something more.
A/N: this is my first fic ever. i have been cooking this one for a few weeks since the vogue photoshoot. so hopefully i did jiyong justice :')
Warnings: sorry it’s gonna be a SLOOOOWWWW BURNNNNNN. also probs horribly planned photoshoot logistics. also probs weird writing. also mostly awkward yet fluffy flirty behavior. anyways.
—
You’re not necessarily new to working with celebrities. In fact, many A-Listers seek out your work since you’ve been deemed as the best editorial photographer in Seoul, something you worked very hard towards since you decided to pursue a creative path after working a dead end desk job that made you question your own worth and sanity. You always had photography to lean back on, as a way to escape from the stressors in your life. It was your way of seeing a new perspective of the world around you, and helped you bring the visions you had in your head to life. It was scary to take the leap into this new world, as you were unsure if it was a good idea to turn your hobby into a career. But once you did, you felt free and like you were your authentic self, finally. Expressing your creativity with your camera was what brought you the most peace and joy, and you felt honored to have the career you have now, where you can capture and share your creativity with others.
You were grateful you got to work with so many talented individuals in the industry, but when your boss told you you’d be the lead photographer for G-Dragon’s (yes, THE G-Dragon) next editorial photoshoot, you felt a wave of shock and uneasiness move through your body. You hadn’t worked with him before, never even met him, so why the hell were you feeling like this all of a sudden? A part of you knows he’s just another celebrity, but then there’s the other part that also realizes HE IS the celebrity everyone aspires to be. His creativity, fashion, and music has shaped the music industry into what it is today, and it’s no doubt that his presence can be felt everywhere.
You snapped yourself out of all your thoughts, concluding that these feelings was just your imposter syndrome creeping in.
—
You had stayed up late the past few nights prepping for this shoot. Lots of mood boards filled with themes, colors, outfits, and poses that you had in mind plastered all over your desktop. You had hopped on a few calls with his team to brainstorm ideas. This was a big moment for him and his team it seemed like, since this was his first editorial appearance that coincided with his comeback after 7 years. After much back and forth, you and his team decided that the theme of the shoot would be Transformation, something you had pitched to them from a place of experience of going through your own version of it. You weren’t sure if it was the delusions in your head, but you had an inkling that G-Dragon had also gone on a similar path to you as well, so it felt fitting to have this be the theme to celebrate his appearance. Kind of like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
’Maybe that’s why I feel nervous…’ you think to yourself as you start your commute to the shoot location for the day, a random warehouse. You wanted to get there early to scope out the area, and mentally prepare for the long day ahead. It was gonna be hectic with all the outfit and set changes, so you thought it was a smart move to settle in early at the warehouse so you can clear your mind so you can confidently work your magic behind the camera.
You walk into the building with all your camera gear, thinking that you were the only person here. But as you look around, you notice a tall and slender figure from a distance, hanging out in what looks to be the dressing room. You walk towards the room, praying that it’s not some serial killer plotting to lure you in then kill you. What a tragic way to go out honestly.. I might need to stop listening to True Crime podcasts before bed. As you walk towards the room, you notice the sun peeking in from the windows above, shining down on this unfamiliar figure. It was almost like a scene in a movie, where the character walks towards the golden ticket. The warehouse was still pretty empty, so the only noise you could hear was the slight wind blowing against the window. Shaking your nerves away, you quietly enter the room and start making your way towards the mysterious person.
‘Hi! I didn’t think anyone else would be here this earl— oh shit’ you realized who was standing in front of you. ‘Oh gosh, hi.’ Ah shit, why were you blushing all of a sudden…
‘Oh hey, I didn’t think you’d be the first one here.’ He says. ‘Y/n right?’ You nod your head. Here you were, standing in front of G-Dragon himself. He was holding a cup of coffee in one hand, while also holding one of the mood boards you made in the other, studying pretty intently before you had walked in. You had thought you’d be more of a nervous wreck interacting with him, but you felt more at ease than ever. Calm even.
‘I’m excited for this shoot today, y/n. I’ve always admired your work. Even looking at these mood boards, I can tell how much thought and care you put into your photography.’ He says before taking a sip of his coffee. You smile and bow your head a bit, hoping he didn’t see how flushed your cheeks were getting.
‘That’s very kind, thank you. It’s truly an honor to get to work with you today, GD’
‘You can just call me Jiyong. No need to be proper with me,’. Jiyong. Suddenly you felt your heart rate pick up a bit, while also questioning why, out of anyone, he’d allow someone like you to call him by his first name.
You shook your thoughts away, as you remembered he was still standing in front of you. ’Jiyong, thank you. I appreciate the kind words, truly.’ Not wanting to interrupt your setup time, he lets you get to preparing for the day.
The room stays silent for a bit as you try to get all your equipment ready before everyone else arrives. Jiyong is sitting at the end of the table, still studying the mood boards you had made for today. He’d glance up at you once in awhile, observing what you were doing. Every time he did, his heart would beat a little faster. Strange feeling, huh. Before he could shake the feelings off, he notices the camera in your hand, peaking his interest even more.
‘Oh, you shoot film too?’ He walks towards you, pointing at your most prized possession in your hand — your medium format film camera you inherited from your aunt. The person and item that really fueled your passion for photography.
‘Oh yeah, I love shooting on film. I’d say I prefer it over digital’ you say shyly. You hold it up proudly to show him, ’I was thinking we could grab a couple of shots on this ancient thing. We don’t have to use these shots for the magazine obviously, but I think it would be fun to play around with it today.’
‘I hope you remember to develop them though. Because this is such a brilliant idea.’ He exclaims, as he starts ruffling with his pink hair. ‘I knew I picked the right photographer for this. I had a feeling that this was meant to be in some way.’
You froze at his statement. Meant to be? you repeated the last part over and over. You were unsure of how to even reply. Did he really mean it, or was he just being nice and charming? Or both?
‘Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to develop them. You just won’t know when,’ you jokingly say. Aish, was that the best you could do?
Fidgeting a little bit, he tries to come up with a witty response to your lighthearted joke, but his thoughts are interrupted due to the sounds of hurried footsteps and slamming doors. Shoot day has begun. Without thinking, you take a quick photo of him lost in his thoughts, “Let’s have some fun today, yea?”
—
The photoshoot was smooth-sailing, with barely any hiccups besides maybe a few makeup and wardrobe errors. Despite those minuscule moments, everyone was chirpy and impressed at how you were working. The way you commanded the space, the way Jiyong followed your lead during the shoot had everyone in awe.
‘Y/N really is amazing at their craft.. maybe a God even’ ‘I’ve never seen someone work so hard until seeing Y/N today. Phenomenal work honestly’ his team would murmur in the background.
‘Alright, that’s a wrap for today!’ you yell as you take the last shot of Jiyong, who was sitting on a swing in front of an orange background, wearing a very clean and sparkly Chanel ensemble. Only he would be able to pull this off. You walk over to him, give him a little tap on his shoulder, and show him the photos you had taken for the past few hours. When he leans in a little closer to look at the photos, you could feel heat rush to your cheeks. He’s not even touching you in any way, but the way you feel like you could melt as he smiles and shows admiration for your vision. There was something so special about this moment, and this feeling that you had around him was just …
‘These are great, y/n! But…what about the film photos? You have to get a better shot of me than that candid shot you got this morning’ his tone had a slight playfulness, but mostly seriousness. How could you forget about that candid you took this morning on your favorite camera in the world… that Jiyong was also interested in.
‘But you lost in thought is soooo on brand for you though.’ You joke as you lightly nudge his shoulder a little bit. He chuckled, getting a little shy at your comment. Is Kwon Jiyong getting shy around me? ‘How about we do some personality shots on the film camera? You’ve been in G-Dragon mode all day today. I’d like to capture some moments of you being you, Jiyong.’ You suggest breaking the tension between the both of you, although you’re starting to very much enjoy whatever was happening during this moment.
Shocked, he looks at you with such deep sincerity and smiles, ’No one’s ever suggested that before. I’m down for that.’ He stands up and gives you a quick side hug, something you both didn’t expect and leaves you both a little flustered, but there’s a part of you that wishes he would do that again. ‘Aish I’m sorry I didn’t know what came over me.’
‘Don’t be. It didn’t bother me at all.’ You reassured, as you leaned in closer to him, beaming a warm smile. ‘Let’s let everyone know that we’re gonna take some film photos, yea?’
‘How about…we let them focus on cleaning up? I’d like it to just be the both of us only, if that’s ok’
‘What about the outfits? Make up?’
‘You said you wanted to capture Jiyong, not G-Dragon. I don’t always need to be dressed up’ he exclaims, as he starts making the way to the rack of clothes, pulling out his favorite knit sweater and a pair of jeans. ‘Now this is a Jiyong outfit. Plus a beanie because it’s cold right now. This can be my outfit for this part of the shoot yea?’
It hit you in the moment that this was indeed, Kwon Jiyong. The fact that he felt so comfortable showing this side of him — this softer, more gentler side of him that he rarely gets to show in the public eye, made you feel warm and fuzzy. Your curiosity was getting the best of you, as you’re now eager to understand him more. But you were also hesitant to do so, as you also felt unsure why he felt so comfortable with you all of a sudden.
‘Y/n? Everything good?’
‘Jiyong, I have to ask.. Why do you want it to be us two only? Don’t you need your team to help you with anything too?’
‘I just… feel like I want to spend time with you away from everyone. There’s something pulling me towards you, as weird as that sounds.’ Your eyes widen before breaking out into a small smile. ‘You have a presence that I’m curious about, Y/N.’
As much as you wanted to drop everything you were doing and run away with him (or maybe you wanted to run away in general because this was a lot for you to process), you were reminded that you were still working, on set, and that if your manager found out about this interaction that he’d probably talk your ear off about unprofessional this all was. You reminded yourself of this and refocused your energy on getting back to the task at hand.
‘Okay that’s very sweet of you, but logistics wise – how should I send these photos to you? Should I deliver these to your team?’ you were trying to be as professional as possible after Jiyong basically confessed he was intrigued by you. This was your way of avoiding your emotions that could explode at any moment. This man is making my job hard today, but I’m kinda up for this challenge.
‘Well… you could share it with me when I take you out to dinner? How does that sound?’ you look at him with wide eyes. The nerve of this man honestly. There was no way you could keep this professional anymore. Not when Jiyong was smirking at you, anxiously waiting for your response to his offer.
You blink once, maybe twice, and you feel heat rush to your cheeks before responding to him. ‘Kwon Jiyong, are you asking me out on a date… while on set?’
‘Yea, there’s no problem with that. I’m G-Dragon after all’ he winks at you before taking your camera out of your hand. ’Now smile!’ He runs away with the camera, taking random pictures of himself, the set, and of you.
‘YA! That thing is expensive and PRECIOUS!!!!’ you say as you run after him.
Professionalism wasn’t really in the picture anymore, because you knew that this was the beginning of a new chapter for you both. A special chapter – one that you never really expected, one that you definitely didn’t want to get out of. You knew this chapter that you were stepping into with Jiyong, was going to be a transformative one to say the least. But hey, some of the best photos you’ve captured come from special moments like these, anyways.
—
hope y'all enjoyed!! ♡
i might write an epilogue for this... maybe

Nature can be interpreted in any way that someone sees fit. Some may view nature solely as something that serves humans while others may see it as something to destroy. While I do not personally agree with this, everything is subjective and it is up to the interpreter. I view nature with wonder and beauty. Nature forms many patterns, with different materials, colours and backgrounds. There are unlimited combinations of plants and animals that will always create a different scene. This is the beauty of nature, you can take a picture of it anywhere and it will always look different.
Paintings are a great way that humans can express themselves through art in association with nature. Cave paintings that show humans, animals and landscapes together date back thousands of years. Although this has evolved into canvases with paint using brushes, it is much of the same thing. Painting nature allows someone to connect with it and realize its beauty without even being within it. When someone paints, they can add their own spin on nature and take it somewhere nature would not typically be found. We have been capable of seeing the beauty of nature for quite some time and have found many ways to portray it.
To me, the gift of beauty is subjective just like nature's interpretation is. I see the gift of beauty as having the want or need to connect with nature and that it provides some level of happiness. When I visited Hawaii this summer, I got to experience nature like I have never seen before. I saw volcanoes that were so tall they went above the cloud level. There were so many unique species of plants that looked so different than what I'm used to seeing in Ontario. I was in awe for much of my trip, just taking in all the beautiful scenery that surrounded me. This was me experiencing the gift of beauty. My trip had a rather large mishap that took place in the middle of it, but the things I saw put that experience in the shadows. Everyone will hopefully see beauty in some form of nature, but like I said before, there are many forms.
I love to capture the beauty of nature within a picture I take on my phone. When I got to pick a new phone I made sure to get the best camera on the market so I could capture nature as authentic as possible. Photography is another way that people can artistically connect with nature. You can take a photo from any angle that you prefer to create a beautiful mirage of landscape, flora and fauna. There are so many ways someone can edit a photo as well to have fun while still keeping nature as a template. Being able to see beauty in nature can help offset the negative things in someone's life and provide a deep meaningful connection to something that most people crave.

Elevate your professional image with high-quality corporate headshots in Sydney
First impressions in the job market are more critical today than they have ever been. Whether networking at an event, sharing a profile online, or applying for a new job, your professional image is an essential factor of how you will be perceived. Among the best ways to elevate your professional profile is through Sydney corporate headshots that are of good quality. In Sydney, talented photographers specialize in capturing the essence of your professional persona, ensuring that your corporate shots resonate with your audience.
Why Corporate Headshots Matter
A corporate headshot is never just a basic picture; rather, it says so much more about your brand, credibility, and professionalism in this age that social media reigns supreme while the digital sphere has taken prominence, especially across platforms like LinkedIn. A very professional image automatically evokes that trust and talks about professionalism on its own - the key connection that can provide you with valued industry relationships.
Consider this: when potential clients or employers come across your profile, what is the first aspect they notice? Your photo. A high-quality headshot can make a huge difference in how you are perceived — it can convey confidence, approachability, and authority. Conversely, a poorly taken or outdated photo may lead to the opposite impression.
Quality Matters in Corporate Photography
Investment in good quality is always a requirement for corporate photography in Sydney. Here are some reasons why the quality matters:
1. Professionalism: A good quality headshot of your corporation shows you care about what you do and are investing in yourself. The more professional you appear, the more opportunities open up for you.
2. Authenticity: A good photo shoot will let your authenticity shine through. It will help tell your story and show your personality while remaining professional.
3. Consistency: Uniformity in your corporate imagery across different platforms — whether it's your website, social media, or business cards — enhances your brand's identity. Well-executed corporate shots in Sydney can help achieve this consistency.
Finding the Right Photographer in Sydney
Choosing the right photographer for your corporate headshots is one of the most important decisions you will make to ensure quality. Here are some tips on how to find the best corporate photography Sydney:
- Portfolio Review: Always start with a review of a photographer's portfolio. Look for examples of corporate shots Sydney that resonate with your vision. Note the lighting, posing, and backgrounds used in their previous work.
- Client Testimonials: Seek to know the opinions of previous clients about their experience. A photographer with good testimonies is probably going to offer a fun and professional shoot.
- Comfort and Rapport: The level of comfort that you feel while shooting will determine the quality of the pictures that you get in the end. Choose a photographer whom you can easily relate to. A good photographer knows how to relate with clients to capture the best images of them.
- Knowing About Your Brand: The photographer has to spend enough time to comprehend your profession and industry as well as personal branding so that this session could also be tailor-made.
Corporate Headshot Prep
You made your decision now, prepare. Here's the best prep.
- Dress Professionally: Choose attire that represents your professional identity. Clean, tailored clothing typically works best, but don't shy away from adding personal touches reflective of your style.
- Grooming: Make sure to invest time in grooming. A clean, polished appearance will enhance your confidence and the overall quality of your headshot.
- Practice Your Expression: Relax and practice your expression. A natural and genuine smile goes a long way. Consider practicing in front of a mirror before your shoot.
Invest in Your Future
In a nutshell, high-quality corporate headshots Sydney can make a big difference in your professional image. Investing in corporate photography is not just getting a photo; it's enhancing your brand and opening doors to new opportunities. After proper selection of your photographer and preparation for your session, you will be able to capture pictures that reflect the best version of you. So, what are you waiting for? Elevate your professional image today and get a step closer to making memorable impressions with our fantastic corporate shots Sydney!

For many, this loop is a bucket-list destination, providing the chance to immerse oneself in the raw beauty of Vietnam's northernmost province. Whether you’re an experienced rider or someone new to the motorbike scene, the Easy Rider Ha Giang Loop offers something for everyone.
Unlike the usual tourist destinations, Ha Giang maintains an untouched charm, largely due to its rural setting and traditional lifestyle of the local ethnic communities. Why Choose an Easy Rider Tour? Choosing to take the Ha Giang Easy Rider tour means opting for a more relaxed yet thrilling experience. This ensures that you can fully immerse yourself in the journey without worrying about navigating the rugged roads or missing out on the must-see spots along the way.
With an expert rider by your side, you’ll be able to explore areas that might otherwise be difficult to reach or unfamiliar. It also gives you the chance to interact with local people and learn more about their culture, as many guides are from the region and speak the local language.
The Best Stops Along the Ha Giang Loop During your ride on the Easy Rider Ha Giang Loop, there are several highlights that you won’t want to miss. The Dong Van Stone Plateau is one of the most famous landmarks in the region, offering a dramatic view of the surrounding landscape. Another must-visit is the Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the highest and most dangerous passes in Vietnam, offering awe-inspiring views of the valleys below.
In addition to the natural beauty, you will also pass through charming villages where you can witness traditional crafts, such as weaving and farming techniques that have been passed down through generations. The region’s distinct culture and lifestyle are an essential part of what makes this journey so memorable.
When is the Best Time to Visit Ha Giang? The best time to visit the Ha Giang Easy Rider route is during the dry season, which runs from October to April. During this period, the weather is cool and dry, making it ideal for a motorcycle adventure. The landscape is lush and green, and the roads are more manageable. Peter McKinnon did a video with a photographer named Garrett King. And he just went on a very long rant about lazy photographers who use Photoshop and "fixing it in post."

He continues... "You can't do that in film. You can't just make a bad decision and say "Oh, I'll fix it in post." (Not true. There was plenty of editing in dark rooms in the past. And now you can scan a film photo and literally manipulate it like a digital photo.) Fix it in post drives me nuts. That statement is so played out. It drives me nuts that people say that. Cuz dude, I don't work that way."
He also says that choosing film is the "hard path" and keeps talking about how lazy photographers who photoshop are.
I love film photography. I have an old Minolta that my mom gave me that I hope to restore and use someday.
But film photographers drive *me* nuts sometimes.
IT'S NOT A COMPETITION!
BOTH THINGS ARE COOL!
This idea that their way of making art is more valid or authentic than my way of making art is just a continuation of an old school mentality that really needs to die. There are still some photographers who will bully people because they use autofocus or aperture priority mode.
I actually think learning to be really good at Photoshop is much more challenging than learning to be good at photography. Sure, there are fields like photographic microscopy and product photography that require years to master, but I've been learning Photoshop for 20 years and I feel like I have barely scratched the surface of what is possible.
I have seen people with near 0 experience take an amazing picture.
I have seen people who barely know how their camera works take consistently good photos. It's the "using only power chords" version of photography.
But I have never seen someone with 0 experience photoshop something artistically impressive.
When people say "that looks Photoshopped" as if that is an insult, it really breaks my heart. Photoshop was a huge reason for my success. My ability to lay in bed and make funny things was essential to building my blog.

My post on Karl Taylor's Clinque photoshoot had so many comments saying his work "looked photoshopped" and it was a little frustrating.
Firstly because he actually sculpts with light and isn't actually very good at Photoshop. When he takes a picture, it pretty much looks like that from the start. The rest is just minor compositing work and blemish removal.
And secondly, because that kind of product photography predates Photoshop. Karl was doing this when Photoshop was just a baby.
In fact, still life photography was inspired by Dutch paintings of fruit and shit.

They were all, "I cannot stand sitting with another yappy model for days on end. I'm sick of people. I'm just going to paint *stuff* but with really amazing lighting."
But it is also frustrating because there is this mentality that digital tools are lesser. As if digital artists just press a few buttons and cheat-code their way into good images.
It's the same mentality people have about CGI. CG artists are the modern day sculpturists. They do the same thing as Michaelangelo or Rodin, just with different tools and in a different medium. Oh, but they also animate their sculptures in thousands of frames in multiple dynamic lighting environments all while maintaining photorealism.
To me, Thanos is just as artistically impressive as the statue of David or The Thinker.

Blair Bunting is a very talented photographer who mixes incredible photographic technique and lighting with his amazing photo manipulation skills.

And while these photos may not be as "authentic" as that film photographer's picture of a dude sitting on a truck...

I can assure you no laziness was involved in Blair's process.
Also, I really didn't want to bring up disability. But it is really difficult for me to do the physical process of photography. Sometimes I do not have the energy to get the perfect "in camera" exposure. Sometimes I won't even check my settings and I will snap a picture knowing that I can make it cool with editing. I just look at the histogram, make sure the data I need is there, and do the rest on my computer.
During my adventure to photograph a bridge in Alton, I was only able to take 6 photos. Usually I will take hundreds in a session. My fatigue got the better of me and I nearly had to go to the hospital after walking up a hill. (I was having a bad day. I'm better now.) I didn't get the photos I wanted to get. And on the way down that hill, as I was out of breath, I pulled out my phone and tried to snap a pic of something cool I saw in front of me. The phone had been set 2 stops underexposed from a previous shot and so the picture was pretty much all in shadow. And because I was walking super slow, I had just missed the sun over the horizon.

But it's a RAW file. And I knew I could probably do something with it. I could "fix it in post." Not because I was being lazy. Mostly because I was trying not to hyperventilate. Apparently, my body can't handle slight inclines any longer.
And this is what I came up with.

I'm not saying this is an amazing photo. And it would have been really cool if I hadn't missed the sun. But this is what my eyes saw as I came down the hill and I was able to recreate that with digital tools.
I think that is pretty cool.

What to Expect During Your Boudoir Photoshoot
If you haven't tried boudoir photography in Victoria before, you might be wondering how the process works. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect:
- Initial Consultation: The photographer gets a chance to discuss your goals, outfit choices, and desired aesthetic. This is a great time to bring up concerns or questions.
- Prep: Expert hair and makeup are often part of the experience to make sure you look and feel your absolute best. Bring some outfits that make you feel confident, like lingerie, robes, or even an oversized shirt.
- The Photoshoot: The process usually happens in a private, cozy location. Your photographer will walk you through poses and expressions that capture flattering, natural results for you.
- Image Selection: You will go through the images and choose your favorite ones after the shoot. Many photographers offer you prints, albums, or digital files so that you can enjoy the photos for a long time.
Why Boudoir Photography is a Gift to Yourself
Sexy boudoir photography is a very bold statement of self-acceptance and empowerment in a world that often pressures us to fit into unrealistic beauty standards. It's a reminder that you are beautiful just as you are.
Boudoir photography is not only for a specific age, type of body, or occasion; it's all about embracing elegance and confidence that lies within anyone. Whether a personal achievement to celebrate, the preparation for one's wedding day, or mere self-love, a boudoir shoot is a noble way to spend time honoring your self.

Capturing Memories While Travelling
Travel is such a wonderful opportunity to get the photography of the beauty, culture, and experiences that make each destination unique. Whether one is quite interested in photography or just begins this professional family photography journey, it can add much value to trips by showing off the ways of capturing travel memories. With thoughtful planning and good creativity, special moments are kept forever through the lens. This article discusses fundamental tips and techniques for travel photography made easy and more outstanding in the creation of unforgettable visual stories about your journey.

1. Pack Smart and Light
Moving with photography equipment does hurt especially as far as space and weight are concerned. Instead of piling all that stuff, just focus on the bare essentials. A mirrorless camera is a great option for travelling since it is light and won't compromise image quality. Opt for a versatile lens, such as one with a zoom facility, so that you could take wide landscape shots if you want to or get up close and personal with any subject you desire.
Carry as few luggage pieces as possible so you are agile and comfortable during travel. Never forget to carry extra batteries, memory cards, and cleaning products in your bag so that you're ready for any shooting situation.
2. Research but Stay Spontaneous
The best moments in travel are best captured when preparations are done in advance. Research the place you are going, understand the iconic locations that exist, the local events, and perhaps hidden gems one might photograph. It is always good to know when to visit landmarks or observe natural wonders at their best time to help plan your shooting schedule.
However, some of the best travel photos are unplanned. Keep your eyes open for serendipitous moments: a street performance, the sun setting over an unknown hill, or even a local market that suddenly catches your eye. The less you research and the more spontaneous you allow yourself to be, the more dynamic and authentic your travel photography will be.
3. Know Your Camera Inside Out

For full realisation of travel photography, it is basic to know the camera settings. Basic elements such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO give you more power over your shots. When you are fully in control of these, you will eventually adapt to different lighting conditions, shoot motion photos clearly, and play with the depth of field for visually perfect shots.
Take time to play around with your camera settings before embarking on your journey. You are then equipped for the sudden changes in real-time as you shoot so you will never miss that particular shot.
4. Capture the Golden Hour and Beyond
Lighting happens to be one of the most essential parts of photography. The golden hour-the soft and warm light, usually taken at just after sunrise or just before sunset-can make an ordinary scene look extraordinary. Thus, be sure to schedule your shoots during these times to capture the best of nature.
Don't limit yourself to daylight hours only, though. Nights offer the opportunity to take photos of city lights, glowing streets, or starry skies. You can discover long-exposure techniques and experiment with motion and light, providing variety and scope to your visual styles.
5. Compose with Intention
A super photograph of a great travel shot is a moment captured, and as such, a story it tells. To use the rule of thirds, place off-centre key elements that make a composition exciting. Always try framing pictures with natural or man-made frames such as arches, trees, or windows.
Lines can also be in the form of road or river, which can draw eyes into the area inside, with the use of symmetry and patterns to bring it into balance and harmony. A good zoom for depth of field when able to notice both foreground and background creates context and adds dimension to the images.
6. Engage with the Local Culture
The best thing you can do, though, to share a story behind your travel and candid family photography is to engage with locals because authentic interactions yield more personally and meaningfully shot photographs. Anything about a place comes alive through people in their daily routines-being it the owner in his shop or street performer or just a family sitting down for a meal.
Don't forget to respect people and always ask permission before taking close portraits of people. Mastering a little of the local language will already put you on a rapport level, hence helping you shoot authentic moments.
7. Create a Visual Narrative
Travelling photography is not meant to serve a theme of recording personal photographs but for telling a meaningful story about your journey. A combination of wide shots of landscape, close-ups of local details and candid photos of people and activities would make a good narration.
But it is in the details-the colours of the markets, the texture of the architecture, or the expression of people just going about their day-that one can discover the uniqueness of a place. To give viewers a fuller sense of the experiences and emotions that really defined your journey, try capturing a diversity of scenes.
8. Experiment with Angles and Perspectives

In order to be able to really make your travel photos stand out, do not even hesitate before experimenting with perspectives. To capture a completely unique angle of a street or monument, crouch low; to shoot panoramic views of the cityscape or landscape, climb high. Changing your perspective adds variety in your photos and makes them more appealing to the eye.
Do not be afraid to play with depth and scale. For example, use foreground elements to lead the eye through into the picture, or stretch the apparent size of a landscape through the placing of a very small figure in it.
9. Master Basic Editing
Modern travel or outdoor family photography work requires the need for editing. Changing settings, including exposure, contrast, and colour balance can easily throw a photo in stark relief-to speak. Adobe Lightroom, for instance, will give one using editing capabilities. Snapseed basically offers user-friendly features that help refine images while making them look very natural.
Over-edited: Avoid that. You are enhancing the beauty of the scene, not distorting it. Keep your edits subtle so that a viewer can see and experience the authenticity of the moment you have captured.
10. Protect and Backup Your Work
It can be very painful to lose some photos especially when you are travelling. Invest in a reliable portable hard drive or cloud storage service so that you regularly back up your photos and are ensured that these memories won't get lost even if your equipment gets damaged or lost.
Take it one step further with safety in mind and even protect your camera-carrying equipment with protective gear, such as a waterproof case, in unpredictable climatic conditions. All this will ensure you're secure about your equipment and allow you to focus more on the more essential things about travelling and capturing the essence of what you are doing.
Conclusion
Travel photography is really so much more than just documenting the trip; it's capturing moments, emotions, and stories that make each place special. Being prepared, open to spontaneity, and accepting the local culture will help you create some amazing pictures that will keep the magic of your trip alive in them. Whether photographing a busy street of a city, an accurate silence of sun setting down or professional family photography, every snap can narrate a different story that will make travel memories stay with you for a long time. Grab your camera and move off to your next adventure, ready to capture the world one frame at a time.
