Tangled the Series: Rapunzel and the Great Tree
I have some thoughts on Rapunzel and the Great Tree
This was an amazing episode. They kicked it up a few notches.
King Edmund seems to not have reacted well to that opal. That nurse is tending him so that tells us that the kingdom is still somewhat functional, enough to have some staff around tending the castle.
Now we have Hector and he is apparently the leader of this brotherhood. He doesn’t need seem like a good guy.
Rapunzel definitely likes being outside. Lol, Cassandra and Fidela play dirty. I still think she’s really fast for a draft horse.
The Tree is impressive.
Hector is about to show up.
Cassandra is really concerned about Rapunzel’s welfare and she does a good job of it. Plucking that telescope of the air like that is very impressive. But Rapunzel is naive to think she can’t be in danger.
And Hector rides a rhino. Impressive. How did they even domesticate it?
And how are Max and Fidela not tired after all the running around from this morning to be running so fast.
I love that Rapunzel is excited to see a rhino.
The caravan splits into two halves!? I guess that explains why its called a caravan, because now it can but really? I got the distinct impression it was dived crosswise not longwise, but whatever.
Wolf-monkeys is as good a name as any.
Now as the audience we know the relationship between Adira and Hector is complicated, but poor Cass is now stuck between someone obviously wanting to kill them all and the weirdo she doesn’t trust.
Now why didn’t Hector’s sword break against Adira’s Blackrock sword? What is his sword made of?
Nice sacrifice play there, Raps, but did the caravan survive that, it looks like it did?
Again we see massive stoneworks. I think we are seeing more past golden age stuff.
So Adira admits she is part of the brotherhood and Quirin too. Rapunzel definitely has some feeling about Varian.
I like how Eugene lets Rapunzel make the big decisions. Cass has problems with that but she is far more cautious.
Zhan Tiri is part of all this, cute.
The pride that Cassandra and Adira both are showing is going to blow up at some point.
The caravan did survive. I am very, very impressed by the Corona safety code.
Eugene and Lance are great buddies.Really they are, but Lance has some big blindspots.
Adira just lead them to a place that’s been closed off for a long time. It’s a library, but how did Gothel ever get there or did she find the healing incantation somewhere else?
Tree pollen is trippy. Really cute song. And they are about to be eaten.
Rapunzel reading incantations out loud is never, ever, a good idea.
I wanted to see the dark side of Rapunzel, but not like this.
Oh no, she’s crying. She doesn’t want to do this. She’s a healer, to destroy is not her.
Cass really carries the weigh of the whole thing on her shoulders, but she doesn’t seem strong enough. I am not sure Cass is wrong about Adira and why they are in the tree and that library.
The flashback is nice. Wheee Rapunzel and the Corona Library!!! Cass is trying to be a friend to Rapunzel and vice versa. Aww big sister vibes. Rapunzel is trying to be more queenly but there are clues that bolster Cass’ opinion.
Wonderful song. The wall is covered in Greek style art. Cass is trying so hard but things are not working for her yet. She wants to be a hero, I get that, but it is hard to have such issues.
Team Rapunzel just learned a whole lot about what is going on. But that does not put Hector in a good light. I am thinking that he also has a black rock sword.
Alright! Cassandra finally makes the play.
How do they survive such falls?
Hector, don’t be an idiot. You are so much worse then an idiot.
So everyone is making sacrifice plays.
Cassandra is impressive. She touched Rapunzel when she was the physical embodiment of destruction. Yes, it withered her hand, but it saved Rapunzel and brought her back. I am expecting that Cass still feels she didn’t do enough. If she hadn’t stopped Rapunzel, then the whole world would have died a very painful death. I think that is a big deal.
But where did the spear go? I am guessing back in the heart of the tree, but we aren’t shown that. Hector still isn’t dead.
This place just got interesting.
We now know what the stakes are. The opal can destroy the world. Can Team Rapunzel make the save?

so guess who decided to watch tangled: before ever after instead of sleeping at a decent time
RUBS HANDS.
-OKAY so its obvious that this takes place preproposal in a different universe aka that one tangled short at the wedding? NOT canon here
-groundbreaking compared to the first? Ofc not its a disney tv movie i didnt have too high expectations
-that said tho it WAS cute and i rlly did like the conflict in the stort aside from the hair stuff that i wont get into yet. it goes onto rapunzel having understandable dislike with having to live her life under overprotective rule in a castle while eugene being the opposite, relishing in what he can with his life now being cared for in expenses and being loved.
-i also found the humor well..not laugh my Ass off considering how my humor is different than tv y7 stuff but man im so glad eugene still has a jokey personality while also being genuine when he needs to be without being forced
-i DID do a wiki binge on cassandras background aka rapunzels handmaiden a bit but imo her introduction couldve been a lot clearer? like is she a handmaiden? a friend? how did she come to be? u all that in the wiki n its not as clear in the movie which is a shame >8T i still like her tho!!! c: ngl with her design i expected her to be a bitch at first but later a sidechick. im glad her and rapunzel were friendly off the bat or at least not at each others throats
-also i like eugene and cassandras little banter n teasing!! tho alas i hope during the series they learn to not get on each others backs passive aggressively when rapunzel is around
-also for a tv movie i didnt expect the camera angles to be really good >8Yc was expecting a lotta flat angles but i was pleasantly surprised :D
-that said!!! unpopular opinion as a newbie to the series: i love the art style!! i think its rlly expressive n fluid n it looks like a childbooks drawing in all the good ways possible. the use of flash isnt always a bad thing :y heck i wish Netflix's Legend Quest could take some notes on this wrt just being able to make flash/cheaper animation not look ass ugly
-i wont spoil the ending but lemme just say it ends a TAD more dismal then what u'd expect but just remember its a movie that leads to a series so ;V
-now for things i didnt like entirely: im mega gay for lady caine but uh. weak villain imo at her full appearance moments BUT i DIDNT see a certain twist coming though but i love the foreshadowing before her final entrance game through. she has potential!! im not sure if i wanna see her come back though
-her dude gang had weak designs, voice acting, and lines in general
-actually tbh moments of badassery tend to be very weak wrt dialogue execution but eh i cant expect everything to be an epic oneliner
-iiim not a fan of the king dads voice either . prob nitpicking here
ANYWAY TO WRAP IT UP UHH
fuck ngl tangled wasnt even my Most favorite disney princess movie..! but after some sneakpeaks into the series as well as a braintune from it sung by Problematic Fave apparently Varian im definitely hooked into seeing more from the series >83c i cant wait to get started!
#eh its not video games so i cant put it on my sideblog but its still a#liveblog..or just braindump of sorta anyway#tangled the series#readings from red#anyway imma watch the rest of the series later on as said#and if it lives up to my hype then ill show the movie first on a rabbit!!!

Tangled: Before Ever After Attempts to have it’s cake and eat it too
I’m sure that most people who view my blog know how much I DESPISE Rapunzel and the movie Tangled. It overshadowed our first black princess, Rapunzel isn’t that interesting of a character, and it made Disney very very lazy in terms of character design.
Despite Tangled: Before Ever After sporting some good storytelling and nice animation, it’s attempts to absolve the first movie of it’s flaws makes me cringe.
Tangled: Before Ever After is a new show that stars Rapunzel living with her parents in her castle and having her hair mysteriously grow back! Wow, that’s sooo wacky and crazy and SO marketable!
This is because the writers had no idea how to make Rapunzel interesting without her “””iconic””” hair.
Oh and you see this new girl, Cassandra?
She’s there because Tangled was rightfully criticized for demonizing and portraying who have dark hair/non-white coded features, calling to mind anti-Romani and antisemitic stereotypical villains. But having a dark haired badass girl who is totally Rapunzel’s friend is better right?!!
Wrong. She is subservient to Rapunzel, she is her Lady-in-waiting and tends to the blonde-light eyed princesses every need. This “friendship” is only exists so that Rapunzel can look good in comparison.
You can’t make the villain in the first movie a harmful stereotype and try to amend it by making a character in the series (that not everyone is going to see) subservient to the protagonist. That’s not how it works.
Cassandra doesn’t exist because they wanted a good character. She’s there to distract from the racism of the filmmaker’s decision to exclude characters who looked like her from heroic roles look better.
Apparently they are also including a black man that they cut from the first movie into the series. Wow, that’s so generous of them. It’s just like having the character in the movie, except not really. It’s shitty.
Tangled made an all-white world where everyone is sooo nice and sooo happy until someone non-white coded needs to be the villain. They had black people in the concept art. And for some reason they were the first on the chopping block when it was time to get the movie going.
Including a character you cut from your “””perfect””” all-white cast doesn’t make what your movie did ok.
It doesn’t fix a god damn thing.
Disney still makes money from Tangled. They still demonize non-white coded characters in the movie. They would still like to pretend that Tiana doesn’t exist, and push Rapunzel to the front of the Princess lineup.
They still greenlit Tangled:Before Ever After and want brownie points for it.
