Oushi is one of the best recent examples of character development done right. Cause when I first started this series I definitely didn't like him. And now, I can confidently say that I do and he's such a good character.
#anyway#I love characters who realize they're wrong and apologize to those around them#and even if they don't get what they want they accept how things are and try to find closure#cause low-key lots of 2nd leads will be like#'dammit I didn't get the girl there's no point anymore fuck this'#but instead he not only made amends with Yuki but also apologized to his friends (another thing I never see happen)#usually its all about the girl and fuck everyone else#and he's trying to maintain a good relationship with itsuomi#granted with how itsuomi is it's kinda hard to avoid him lmaoo#itsu said 'ur my friend now we're having soft tacos later!'#anyway there is definitely something to be said about whether or not we should forgive ableist behavior#cause there were moments at the beginning of the series where oushi said/did things that felt passively ableist#but not bc he's ill-intentioned but bc he has trouble expressing himself#which isn't an excuse but a flaw#and it's nice to see a character with his setup acknowledge his flaws and try to be better#but I think his character was written flawed enough but not too flawed to be deemed unforiveable#cause that is a pet peeve of mine when a piece of fiction has a 'flawed character' we're meant to forgive but they've gone toooo far#and we're meant to forgive them anyway??#but I think oushi was done perfectly and avoided that kind of trope#im excited to see where the plot takes him#a sign of affection#yubisaki to renren#ashioki oushi#nawwww

WHO ARE YOU BRINGING TO THE ISLE?
FACECLAIM: Ryan Potter NAME: Atlas Yamamoto-Sinclair AGE: 25 BIRTHDAY: 2-13-1996 OCCUPATION: Lighting engineer at Deadpan theater HOMETOWN: Newbury, England PETS: POWERS: Desire Manipulation: User can sense and manipulate the desires of themselves, people, animals and other creatures, whether by increasing, decreasing, causing or otherwise channeling desire, even manifesting the emotional energy to physical level. These desires can include love, attraction, adoration, addictions, hopes and plans for the future, or even for basic necessities.
BIOGRAPHY: Yuki Yamamoto was never a man to step out of line. He did everything his father asked of him before he was even asked. He was the second son in his family. All he wanted to do was prove to them that he was worth something. He would never be more than a shadow to his elder brother. He went to college like a good son would. While at college he fell in love with the theater and plays. During his last year Yuki was allowed to spend a semester in London. It was the first time he had experienced a new culture and it was eye opening. During his travels he decided he wasn’t going to be the proper son that he had been always forced to be just for one night. In that one night he met a beautiful woman who completely enchanted him. They spent the entire night together where they talked about everything and did well…everything. After that night Yuki went home back to Japan with the memories of the beautiful woman and amazing adventure he had. 9 months later he was coming home from his office job when he stopped dead in his tracks. There was the woman he had met in London standing in front of his house. He couldn’t remember if he had told her where he lived but he was so excited to see her that he didn’t care. It wasn’t until he was right in front of her that he realized she was holding a baby in her arms. Yuki was confused even more so when she placed the baby in his arms and told him that he was going to be an amazing father. Before she went away she warned Yuki to not spend his life doing things he hated and encouraged him to return to the place that he was the happiest.
With some careful thought Yuki decided it was the best thing for him to take his newborn son and move to London to use his degree and help run theater companies. His family didn’t care of his choice but Yuki lied and told them that the mother of his son lived there and he wanted to make their family work. So Ichiro took his son and traveled to London. It was there that he started his life over again. It was hard for the first year, trying to be a producer and raising a newborn. He found friendship and companionship in one of the actresses he met Melissa Sinclair. She was young, beautiful and best of all in love with his son. Their relationship started quickly and moved even quicker. They barely knew each other a year before they were married. Melissa adopted Atlas and he was raised as if she was his mother. Yuki and Melissa were married for 7 years before Yuki received word that his eldest brother had died in a tragic accident. His parents were old and needed taken care of but they did not want to come to England to live with Yuki and his family. Yuki and Melissa made the choice that Ichiro would go back to Japan and take care of his family. Melissa would stay with Atlas in England until he could come home. They planned to spend their summers in Japan when Atlas was out of school. When summer came around Melissa and Atlas came to the Yamamato family home. Immediately they were discarded. The family refused to let either of them see Yuki. Melissa was so confused but took Atlas to a hotel anyway just to see if she could figure out what was going on. She finally got a hold of Yuki who told her that his father had fallen ill and his mother blamed him and his leaving for everything. He apologized for what had happened but never made the choice to make it right.
Melissa took Atlas home to England when it became clear that Yuki was not going to force his family to make amends. Instead of going back to London Melissa went to her hometown of Newbury. She had never changed her last name since she wanted to be an actress and wanted her stage name and real name to be the same. Though she was glad that had decided when she adopted Atlas to add her last name to his name. As he got older Atlas was also thankful for what his mother did. Through the years Atlas never heard from his father except for the occasional birthday card and call once every few years. It felt like his father didn’t even care about him. Atlas spent most of his life trying to figure out who his father was and what attracted him to the theater so much. He would often hear his mother talk about all the adventures and plays his father had put on while they lived in London. He had only been a baby for most of them so he never could remember. It was that connection to a father he barely could remember that caused Atlas to want to do theater. Melissa being a now has been actress encouraged Atlas to explore the theater as well. Atlas knew he wasn’t meant to be on stage. No no. That would be too much for him.
Atlas always seemed to know what others wanted. He knew what they wanted for their birthday, what they wanted to eat for lunch, who they wanted to kiss behind a tree. He always seemed to know what someone desired and he never really could explain it. Most of his life he just pushed it off as if he was good at guessing. He wasn’t entirely a people person. He liked the silence and being alone since most of the time it was the only quiet his mind seemed to get. Yet whenever he was around people he somehow felt energized. It wasn’t until he was in high school that he realized something wasn’t right. His best friend was telling him how he just wanted to ask some girl out. It was of course a girl that was not going to be interested in some geek like them but Atlas just told his friend to go do it. He encouraged him to act upon what he desired to do and his friend did it. Of course the whole ordeal ended in a giant disaster and neither of them understood why he even bothered in the first place. Soon after that Atlas met a woman. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and what was funny was she talked to him like she knew him. It was then she told him all about where he came from and who she was. How Atlas was a Demi-God and he was going to have to learn to control his powers or he was going to cause more trouble them some hurt feelings. At first Atlas didn’t want to believe her but after trying it out he soon realized everything she said was true. He went home to his mother and asked if she was his real mother. Melissa confirmed what Aphrodite had said, about Atlas’s true parentage. Though she did not name the goddess she simply said his father had met a woman while traveling in London. He decided it was better for his mom…for Melissa if he didn’t tell her about the true nature of his mother.
Even though his father pretty much abandoned him and his mom it was something his mother loved. He couldn’t count how many times they’d travel out to London and see a show. He never wanted to be on stage. It wasn’t his wheelhouse like it was his mother’s. He much preferred the comfort of the backstage. While in high school he was introduced to lighting and stage work. He felt in love with the switchboard and the intricacies that went along with it. He felt like he was apart of the show but didn’t have to actually be on the stage. After he graduated school he decided to go to Uni in London. He graduated and got a job working in the West End. He loved his life and enjoyed his job. He was so happy to be able to just do the things he loved even though there was one unopened chapter of his life that he would go back to every time he went home to visit his mother. It was on a trip home that he learned one of the people he had went to high school with, someone who he had done shows with had moved to an island in the Mediterranean. It was then he realized any hope of a destined connection was over. Atlas went back to London and continued with his every day work. Until of course his mother…his birth mother showed up. She explained to him things were happening and she wanted him to be safe. So she convinced him to move to this small island near Greece. Of course his mother was devastated to be losing Atlas. They were all they really had left. It broke his heart to leave her but he promised he would visit as often as he could. He now had been living on the island for just about 2 years. When he arrived he was so glad to see that they had a theater on the island. He quickly applied to work as a crew member there specifically the Board Op. He also helped out teaching the kids at the high school how to use the light board and would help the university with their shows when he could. Atlas was enjoying his life on the island until it seemed like the Gods were going mad. It was one particular God but still. Atlas wasn’t sure if the danger was still there and if he should still stay on the island. He missed his mother so much but hoped now that the kidnappings were over she would get to visit. He wasn’t sure why but something inside of him was telling him to stay. ANYTHING ELSE:
ummmmmmm hi?
