fun fact: enjoying WandaVision and calling out its inherent racism are not mutually exclusive.
#wandavision#not to send hate on the people who worked on the show#because that doesn’t add anything besides unnecessary hate#but we do need to acknowledge the racism and erasure of Wanda being Jewish and Romani#and you can do that while still enjoying the show#and no#watching this show doesn’t make you racist and bad because that’s a stupid argument#yes media does influence our ideas and biases and shit#which is a talking point I love discussing#but in wandavision’s case it’s more an issue of erasure and lack of representation#and in the trivializing and appropriation of Roma culture like with the scarlet witch headdress and the discriptors used#but I do have to say that problems like whitewashed casting and erasure of her character’s heritage and rep stems from the broader mcu#like it started in age of ultron when Lizzie Olson got cast#and it isn’t her fault for taking on the role#especially back in 2012/2013 when that movie happened#and it’s more on Kevin Feige#Joss Whedon#and the casting directors#and honestly speaking though the best thing to hope for at this point is for them to retcon the shit out of everything#like acknowledge Wanda the character as being Roma and Jewish#by having her celebrate Hanukkah and maybe give Sokovia a Jewish/Romani subset#because at this point she’s an established character with an established actress as that character#and we can’t recast
