GONE
RAFE CAMERON X READER
synopsis: rafe promised to take care of you.
a/n: sofia and rafe aren’t together.
warnings: angst, heavy themes, heavy alcohol consumption, drunk driving
word count: 550
“come on, y/n just let it out.” Sofia’s words echoed in your head. you hadn’t drank this much in years. you swore on your life you would never even get close to alcohol again, yet here you were, getting comforted by Sofia on your own bed. a sob left your lips as you put your head in your hands. “i can’t.”
you felt her wrap a comforting arm around your shoulders. you glanced up at her face. pity. a new feeling you couldn’t put words too had begun to take over the last few months. all because of Rafe, your husband. he had promised to take care of you.
the picture of you and him smiling brightly at the camera rested on the bed, along with some other photographs. you let your hand grace one. your favorite. It was a picture of you on your very first date, at the beach. the sun shone bright behind you as his gaze held nothing but love. everything had changed now though.
“why, Sofia why” you cried out. your makeup long forgotten. your chest ached. nothing could fill the void anymore. why had he left you? you tightly clutched your shirt in your fist. his shirt. a vague scent of him making its way up your nose. she pulled you into her arms and held you tightly. “i don’t know” she whispered softly, “i don’t know y/n.” you sobbed, your heart hammered in your chest. rapid breaths could be heard in the otherwise quiet bedroom. you looked like shit, you had for the last few weeks. your bedroom didn’t look any better. your shared bedroom. the thought only made you sob more. bottles and tissues were scattered all over the room.
“i’m gonna go see him” you hiccuped, Sofia didn’t get a word in before you rushed out to your car. her cries of protest not quite reaching your ears. you could barely see the road, vision blurry from your tears, let alone the alcohol rushing in your veins worsening your vision. you paid no mind to the honking cars. swerving left and right. your mind was focused on Rafe. you let out small sniffs as you turned into the yard. throwing the door open your hands rubbed at your eyes, heavy breathes and fast pacing steps. you didn’t know where to look. everything was spinning, what would you say?
“Rafe” you whispered. finally you had found him. with your left hand in your pocket, clutching the photo of the two of you at the beach, you stepped towards him. “hey” you laughed lightly. that was your favorite thing about him. his laugh. it always seemed to make your day better. only this time he didn’t laugh back. only stared back at you with a smile. you leaned forward and put your forehead against the cold headstone. clutching the edge of it you put the photo down. sitting down on your knees you let your tears fall freely. there was nothing you could do. if only you had the chance to express your love for him one last time. only now had he become a memory. a beautiful white and cursive writing stared back at you.
In loving memory Rafe Cameron. Gone but never forgotten, our memories of you will be forever cherished. A loving son, brother and husband.
