deciding to not push urself to the absolute limit by only taking the one higher level class should really be seen as what it is: a smart move. ur NOT repeating last year by choosing less work heavy classes that might not weight ur gpa, but if u get better grades in general than u did last year, wont ur gpa automatically be higher ?idk anything abt what a test optional college is bc im a freshman but like. in the end if they dont accept u its their loss and not exactly the end of the world. about community college: that’s definitely a great option! save a lot of money, get boring classes out of the way - but it’s not what i want. i don’t want to stay here for a few years after high school. (and with there being a community college ten minutes away from me, that’s what i would be doing.) i want to go somewhere different where there are new people and new places and i can reinvent myself, you know? i’ve been looking at a lot of colleges (like. a lot.) and they’re all ones that i could probably get into (like, their acceptance rates are above 50%) and i’ve kind of decided that that’s what i want to do.

the thing with taking less intense classes this year is that when i apply to colleges, it’ll be in the beginning of the school year, maybe even before any grades are out. so all colleges can see of senior year when i’m applying is my class schedule and maybe first semester grades. that’s why my class schedule matters so much. it’s not so much about the gpa boost as is it is about the appearance of challenge. but a class without an HN or AP in the title doesn’t make it easy! like, i’m taking astronomy next year and i doubt that that will be easy, but there’s no honors option, so it doesn’t look as rigorous - to my mom, anyway.

a test-optional college is a college where the sat and act are optional when applying, where for most schools they are required. also i love you but when it’s your future you’re looking at things can get really blown out of proportion.

about extracurriculars: i actually auditioned for the choir last week and i think i’ll make it in, and i just tried out for color guard today and my interview for captain is tomorrow. i’m going to do them both next year, and if i have to quit choir midway through the year because there’s a scheduling conflict, then at least i’ll have done some time of it than no time at all. i don’t want to regret not doing things that i want to do, and i knew that if i didn’t do it i would, so i did it. that makes it sound a lot simpler than it was.
