I made a post about maybe shipping two actors and I received a comment from someone I don't know saying "please don't ship IRL people..."
I blocked that person and deleted that comment but I think I need to vent so let's talk about this...
Ok, first of all, I don't know you and you don't know me. You don't even follow me and this sure as hell is the first time I see your url so... what makes you think you're entitled to say what I should or shouldn't do? Wtf?
They're not gonna see this post but seriously, what's up with that?
If a mutual wanted to call me out on something that'd be ok. I'm not perfect and everyone has different opinions so sharing different perspectives and constructive criticism on whatever topic we're discussing are always welcomed on my end... But not an order and not from someone I don't know.
And second of all, do you know the difference between reality and fiction? Because I do. And for me shipping is pure fiction.
And, well, even if it wasn't (which isn't the case but let's pretend for a second), I'm in my little corner of the internet minding my business and sharing with people who might be interested. I'm not screaming at their faces or sharing fandom content with the people I ship, so I'm not hurting anyone.
Also, as I said, it's my blog, if you don't like what you see in a post like that you can either ignore it or block me, but don't tell me what to do if you don't even know me, wtf?

*sigh*
Y'know, this really doesn't/shouldn't matter, but as this particular accusation keeps getting thrown at me over and over again - oh fuck it, I'm gonna take the bait this one time and set the record straight once and for all. Honestly my "appetite" in this context is truly not anyone's business (and if you don't care to hear about it this is the one warning you'll get to click away lmao) but I've reached the point where if you really wanna attack my credibility based on who you think I enjoy fantasizing about, I'm gonna throw you a bone and tell you exactly what type that is - cuz as much as I'm sick of the ad hominem attacks the Aussie in me is even more sick of watching them miss so fucking hard. If you're gonna roast me, the least you can do is hit me where it hurts, goddamn it. Get it right or go home you uncooked noodles. Capiche?
When it comes to my taste in men, my "type" is: big, strong, hairy brutes. There, I said it. Give me lumberjacks, give me cavemen, I want my Jason Momoas, I want my Ma Dong-Seoks, I want them broad shoulders and tree-trunk calves and I wanna see those muscles bulge. If a fictional character ever gets me biting my lip at the screen, it's never gonna be a fine-featured pretty boy, it's gonna be a good thick daddy who can take my wrists, pin me against a wall and [--------------------------------‐---sustained bleep sound effect---------------------------------]

1:38-1:51 🤣
Personality wise, I'm a basic bitch who has approximately zero defenses for the "jerk with a heart of gold" stereotype. Gets me every time, without fail. The smooth-talking playboy who flirts with everyone and who could bed anyone he wanted, but who only lets you see him at his deepest, dearest, most vulnerable moments? Sorry, am I supposed to not fall for that shit or something? Well frankly I don't understand how and I'm not ashamed to admit it. If he happens to be built like a fortress on top of that? Yeah, I'm done. Have me bathed and brought to your tent, sir, please and thank you.
I admit, it's rare that a character with the physique I like also has that heartbreaker personality I'm a sucker for. Guys in fiction are usually strong and mean or they make up for their lighter frames with silver tongues and barbed promises - rarely do writers create a character who's stacked with both brains and brawn, so to speak. Makes sense though, as while irl people can max out any combination of stats that they put effort towards - in fiction a character who's too good at too many different attributes can come across unbalanced or Gary Stu-ish and will fail to resonate with audiences unless the writer really knows what they're doing.
That being said, there really isn't any character in ATLA who fits my type - either of them, actually. There are some bit characters like Chit Sang who get close in terms of physical build - but Chit Sang has very gaunt, angular facial features that I'm really not a fan of and tbh, while I get that I can't expect all my big buff boys to also be masters of wit and cunning and charm, being dumber than a box of rocks does seal it for me, sorry. In terms of personality, I guess the closest character would be Jet, and he's cool and all but yeah, the whole "would go as far as killing kids" thing makes him a bit of a hard sell for me too. (And yes, it's worth questioning the writers' choices to create him with those flaws to begin with but look, that's a discussion for another day 😂)
All this to say, if you wanna tease me about coveting fictional characters and allowing thirst to cloud my judgment - COME AT ME BOYS. But not with Zuko, for fuck's sake. The character that makes sneezy.exe blue-screen ain't him. It's actually the late great Carthaginian General Hannibal Barca, the man the myth the legend may he Rest in Peace if anyone's seriously wondering. Look, I do like the scar, and the awkwardness is endearing - he's definitely not ugly or unappealing by any means so please don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to bash him or nothin' - but if I'm being brutally honest, he's not my type! Not physically, not even emotionally. If I ship Zutara, it's because aspects of the ship appeal to me that are unrelated to my personal opinion of Zuko as an object of fantasy, which if you must know (and now you do, congratulations, you're welcome), the kind of boy I do fantasise about when I'm in the mood for that sort of thing could literally and figuratively sweep Zuko off his feet - and then sit on him. In either order.
Tumblr media
P.S. While we're on this topic, the character I personally relate to most heavily is not Katara either btw. It's Toph. If you're going to accuse me of bias, questioning my views on Toph would make the most sense for that reason. But really, it's hardly my fault that she's basically the most perfect flawless irreproachable badass in ATLA or practically all of animation as a whole. Come on now. *whistles innocently*

Not sure if this is what the other anon was referring to
Tumblr media
So this was the original tweet about microaggressions but again, no quote about what these microaggressions are besides the comment about power and pace (which... are these even microaggressions?). I am also worried people who claim microaggressions don't actually know what microaggressions actually are. Being a POC, a microaggression for me is people constantly asking where I am from, if I know anyone that looks like me or has my same last name, touches my hair (the BIGGEST no), comments on the size of my lips, or tells me "oh you aren't a [specific career]? Isn't that something your people do?" The worst is when it's related to religion lmao I'm not even religious but the amount of people how have microaggressive questions or statements with regards to my culture's religion is wild to me. Talking about power and pace is not a microaggression, I'm sorry. It's too broad of something to ever be associated with race specifically because EVERYONE uses those terms because they are sports terms. NOW, before y'all come with your pitchforks, should she diversify her praises or comments? Absolutely. If you're only using power and pace to describe Black players, that's not a very professional thing to do and in my opinion, could be discriminatory. But it is not racist, at least not in my opinion. I am a POC, but I don't speak for anyone and I definitely do not speak for the Black community, so I could be totally wrong and out of line, but I don't see it to be a problem with racism and more with KK needs a bigger vocabulary to describe player's abilities, especially if she's consistently doing that to most Black players. And if there is a problem with it that I can't see, please (calmly) explain it to me because I want to understand and learn more so I don't make the same mistake and unknowingly harm someone. Again, a sample size of two (Midge and Alana are the only ones people have made claims about) is not enough to make this assumption, at least not to me.
But ALAS, I went digging further just for all of you screamy anons to find the transcript of the AC comment, and this is what I found.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sorry, but where is the racism here? She definitely said it poorly by saying "that's dramatic" but she backpeddles and does provide a rationale. She should have apologized for saying that it was inappropriate to say "dramatic" and she shouldn't be taunting people to tweet her because that is incredibly unprofessional, BUT, it's still not racism, I'm sorry. It's inappropriate commentating, childish commentating, I'll admit, but it's not racist. Her reasoning makes sense and if she had just gone with that to start I think this would be a different situation, but she didn't. She made a silly remark which honestly is hurtful especially if KK's been covering her games for so long and AC has been doing really well in recent games. BUT, she does have a point and I do agree, AC is not a world class defender. She's fabulous, but she's not world class. She has great performances but they aren't consistent. You can't compare AC to someone like Becky or Krieger or even Ertz. She's not at that level (yet) but she has the potential, which is what KK is saying.
But yes, I get it now with the "it's not what she said it's how she said it" because you're right. How she said it is inappropriate, rude, unprofessional, and it doesn't have a place in the big leagues. But, the unfortunate truth is that's what commentators in the big leagues are like. Have you ever listened to the Boston Bruin's commentators? Marchand could literally spear a guy and they would be singing his praises. People have biases and this shit happens, and while that doesn't excuse it, it's not something that will stop all of the sudden. As the game grows, so will the commenting, for better or worse. The same thing will happen with trash talk and how journos cover sports. They literally call Sportsnet, Leafsnet for a reason. They're all biased.
So TL;DR again lol: no, it's not a microaggression (at least not to me, but if you identify as Black and disagree, then you're the better judgement than me because it personally has never bothered me as a POC but I don't speak for everyone nor do I intend to), no it's not racism (it was a matter of opinion), and yes, she did handle it poorly and she should know better and apologize for what she said, which she has not done, and did not do in the moment (instead, she backpeddled to provide her rationale, which helps, but doesn't actually take responsibility for what she said in the moment). So no, I don't defend her actions and I'm disappointed in her for how she handled this and how she said what she said without apologizing.
Does that satisfy you angry anons? See how easy this discussion could be if y'all just gave me the information you were yelling about without coming into my inbox to slander me. Next time if you're upset, tell me specifically why without being vague and give me something to work with instead of threatening me or telling me I'm a piece of shit for defending such an awful person. This is a really important conversation to have and I'm glad you brought me the thread, anon, because it helps contextualize it by using the actual live transcript. I agree, she was in the wrong, and she should apologize, and most importantly, she should do better. It's a shitty situation.
But, it's not racist. That doesn't excuse it, but don't start calling things racist or microaggressions because it fits your narrative. It's not about defending KK because she did mess up, but it's about recognizing how real racism and microaggressions impact people, and by throwing the words out there without actual weight, it can diminish the actual lived experiences of real BIPOC people.

GIRL YOU TRIED IT!!!
Selective reading isn't as cute as you think it is.
Nobody was talking about "females being freaks of nature".
If you think I meant general females when I said trans exclusionist then log off because you've been on Tumblr too long if you can read "trans exclusionist" and think "this bitch must be talking about all females".
And if you think I meant feminist when I said trans exclusionist then you're really fucking delusional!! You aren't even a feminist. You don't refer to yourself as feminist at all. Any time you talk about yourself you're speaking as a rad fem and have frequently pushed away any association of feminism/liberal feminism. You identified yourself as a rad fem since before they were called rad fem so you switching up the game and calling yourself a feminist so that you can make a point on Tumblr dot com is horse shit and you know it mama.
And this whole "don't give guns to ANYONE EVER, especially not to a group of people prone to violence" mess is corny as shit.
You're Latina.
You mentioned that your mixed (fucking gag, it's always mixed girls that LOVE telling people they're mixed. You'll never call yourself biracial but have no problem playing into Americas sexualizing glorification of biracial Latinos as "mixed" but I guess whatever makes it easier for you to exist as a white passing Latina in America lol) but as a Latino you should def know that Latinos are another group that is "clearly espoused to violence" because lord knows our track record isn't great.
Literally every group of people, whether it be race, religion, gender, orientation, ethnicity, etc have committed violent acts on others.
It's like, if some undocumented Latino goes and commits a crime does that mean Latinos shouldn't have resources to defend themselves against violent bigots? PYSCH HOE!!
And girl. You don't have to pretend to be interested in the well being of trans people. Like, you can tell me about how trans people are the most suicidal (which we all know is true) but the gag is one of the biggest factors of trans suicide is not being able to transition AND being treated poorly.
Don't worry sis, I know you and all the other rad girlies on Tumblr aren't making trans people suicidal, but don't think for a sec that you're gonna get me to believe that you care about trans people when you reblog shitty things with tr*nny slurs. You're pressed because I called you a freak but then have reblogs about tr*nnies? How goofy!!!!!
(And don't sweat it sis, when it comes to all those women of color who were murdered I'll take it up with the men AND with your kind who advocate AGAINST the defense of all trans women because on no someone's granny got hurt uwu).
Also whomst the fuck said your cunt was pink? I said you take up for pink cunt. I mean, cool that you're a first gen Latina! Join the club, we can start a coalition of mouthy Latin bitches. But your white rad feminism will need to be left at the door. This coalition needs INTERSECTIONALITY. Like, taking up for our Latin men or disabled black women or poor Jewish people. Occasionally reblogging a pic of poc lesbians is cute, and there's nothing wrong with sticking to a theme, but having most of your shit focused on speaking about women in broad terms isn't that helpful. White feminism is ALWAYS talking in general terms and maybe that works for a biracial OOPS MY BAD I mean mixed mamacita, but that shit doesn't do anything for the rest of us 💋
